What sizes can different types of ironing boards have?

Types and sizes

We have two types of boards in our catalog:

  • Tabletop - small-sized products that are suitable for students, as well as people with a low budget. The height is 6 cm, the length is 86 cm, and the height is 30 cm. They require installation on any flat surface. They are considered the most durable type of ironing board.
  • Floor-standing – dimensions may vary depending on the size: mini and standard. In the “mini” category, boards with a length of 105-112 cm and a width of 29-34.5 cm are presented. The standard contains models with a length of 107-123.5 cm and a width of 29-46 cm.

The length of ironing boards is selected depending on the conditions of use: for small apartments and small dressing rooms, models from the “mini” category would be an ideal option. For large families, where a wide variety of things are ironed - from bed linen to pants, it is better to choose the “standard” type.

The remaining parameters are selected based on user preferences. A small width is enough to iron clothes, while for curtains and bed linen it is better to choose options from 40 cm to speed up and simplify the ironing process. The height of the board is selected based on the user’s height. Each model has height adjustment - stepwise and smooth. The stepped one has a maximum of 3 set levels, while the smooth one allows you to better adjust the board to the user.

Leg type

The legs of the ironing board, depending on the shape, ensure the stability of the product, as well as its compactness when folded:

  • A-shaped - straight legs diverging towards the bottom. A common option found in many models. The stability indicator is lower than that of other options, but boards of this type are compact when folded.
  • U-shaped - straight legs with a wide setting. Better adjustable and quite stable.
  • T-shaped - legs crossed among themselves and diverging at the very bottom. They are considered one of the most stable if the lower part is equal to the width of the board.
  • L-shaped - not the most common type. Saves space when folded, but some users complain of low stability if

Stability is also affected by the quality of fasteners, as well as special pads on the legs. Rubberized tips allow the product to stand still even on the most slippery floors.

Folding mechanism

The way you unfold and fold also has implications for storage. To ensure that the boards in the apartment do not interfere and are easily removed, we recommend focusing on the method of folding them. These mechanisms are also used to adjust the height.

Currently, there are models on the market that can be folded and unfolded using three main mechanisms:

  • Small
  • Machine
  • Automatic with limitation

Board surface

One of the most important parameters is the material from which the surface of the board is made. They differ not only in weight, but also in secondary properties:

  • Plastic is the lightest, most durable material that does not deform when exposed to high temperatures. It does not absorb moisture and does not produce foreign odors.
  • Metal is a solid surface, very durable, not subject to deformation, but at the same time heavy. This board will last a very long time.
  • Metal mesh is a lightweight analogue of the previous option with a flat surface, convenient for ironing. But if you regularly and for a long time are exposed to high temperatures, there is a risk of places with obvious signs of deformation appearing, therefore it is not recommended to leave the iron on such a product.
  • Plywood is a fairly cheap model that is lightweight. Not the most convenient material, as it can become deformed under the influence of steam and moisture.
  • Chipboard is a lightweight and inexpensive option with high strength. The only negative is that it can “crumble” over time, but with high-quality source material this problem does not arise for a long period of time.

From the above list, metal models are considered the most expensive, but budget ones, affordable for everyone, are made of plywood and chipboard.

Design

The most important element of such furniture is the ironing surface. The dimensions of the system and the type of coating material have a serious impact on the duration of operation, as well as ease of use.

The most common, cheap option is considered to be a slab made from chipboard. Sometimes manufacturers replace chipboard with plywood. Unfortunately, this material begins to delaminate over time. An irritating squeak appears during ironing. There is only one way to get rid of it - purchase a new ironing system.

The steel plate increases the weight of the entire structure. If you use an iron with a steam function, the cover will quickly deteriorate. The metal mesh allows steam to pass through perfectly and does not affect the weight of the product. To prevent the mesh from being printed, housewives use a felt backing.

An excellent base for installing a steam iron is a plastic sheet. The wooden model has no disadvantages. Especially when the wood is pre-coated with a special antifungal compound.

The ironing surface is covered with a cover made of high-quality cotton fabric. Almost every model uses this material. In addition, as an addition, modern products are covered with a cover made from non-stick fabric. The advantages of such cases include:

  • heat resistance;
  • waterproof.

One disadvantage is the minimal friction of the coating. Therefore, things begin to slide a lot during ironing. To prevent this from happening, the removable cover must be supplemented with felt. This is especially true for an ironing surface made of steel mesh.

Reference! A stove with a removable cover, which is secured with cords, is considered ideal.

The most important characteristic of such furniture is stability. This is achieved by protruding the legs beyond the perimeter of the structure. Of course, this will affect the dimensions of the ironing table, but it will gain maximum stability. To avoid scratching the parquet, rubber caps are placed on the tips.

Ironing becomes more convenient if the stove is equipped with a special iron stand. It is usually made of St3 metal rod. Thanks to this addition, there is no need to constantly turn the iron over, giving it a vertical position.

To achieve perfect ironing, you can use a sleeve stand. It is not included in the product package and must be purchased separately. This will help iron the sleeves without pressed folds and give each sleeve a perfect look.

Manufacturers are constantly modernizing their products. The result of this work was a shelf installed under the stove. It is designed for storing ironed items and cooling them.

Good to know! You can’t immediately hang up hot, ironed laundry. It can become a source of unpleasant odor.

An excellent addition is a special mesh that, when ironing, will help get rid of pressed-in stains left by the iron.

Materials for the case

Covers for ironing boards are now made removable, although in some models they may also be fixed to the base. The San09 assortment includes the following options:

  • Cotton is a natural and easy-to-care fabric. Features bright colors.
  • Thermo-fabric is an analogue of cotton with non-stick properties and the ability to reflect heat, which makes the ironing process easier. It is superior to cotton in durability.

Their cotton covers are the most common and are made of high-quality material. The only drawback is that under regular exposure to high temperatures, bright designs can fade.

It is worth noting that not everyone likes bright and variegated colors, since during the ironing process they can be visible through the fabric of the item, thereby making unironed areas invisible.

Additional components

If we talk about additional components, these are mainly:

  • Armband. You can buy it separately for the board if it is not provided by a specific model. The removable option is considered quite convenient, since it can simply be put aside when not needed.
  • Iron stand. It can be all-metal or made in the form of a mesh or a contour made of metal wire. A good option if you need to iron frequently and for a long time. This extra space allows you to install a hot iron without the risk of ruining the board cover or item.
  • Electrical socket, electrical extension cord, cable holder for iron. These elements improve the functionality of the ironing board, but make the design somewhat heavier and also increase the cost of the product.

Purchasing an ironing board with certain components (for example, an ironing board with an armrest) is everyone’s choice. And if the armband and the iron stand are necessary elements that simplify and speed up the ironing process, then the remaining parts are not always used.

At the San09 store we offer high-quality ironing boards made of various materials with different dimensions to suit your needs. Each product is provided with a guarantee in accordance with the Law of the Russian Federation “On the Protection of Consumer Rights”, according to which the client has the right to return the product within 2 weeks from the date of purchase, provided that the ironing board is properly stored, installed and assembled.

Criterias of choice

Other important characteristics besides size when purchasing should be taken into account:

  • Weight - an ironing board, the dimensions of which are standard or close to them, weighs about 5-10 kg. Desktop boards weigh less (about 3 kg).
  • Mobility means ease of moving the board, folding and unfolding it, and adjusting it in height.
  • Convenience - the width should be large enough to comfortably iron things of any size, and the presence of a stand for the iron and fastening for an outlet or cord will also be a positive thing. Nowadays, rubberized stands are often found, as well as sockets with an extension cord on the bottom side for easy connection to the iron.
  • Quality of materials and durability - you need to carefully study what the ironing board is made of. The most short-lived material is chipboard, but its opposite and most reliable is thermoplastic. But the latter is very expensive, and only innovatively equipped companies produce thermoplastic ironing boards.
