The washing machine has finished the wash cycle, you came to take out the laundry as usual, but the door was locked. What to do? After all, leaving damp laundry to “sour” in the drum is not the best idea at all.
Sometimes users try to open the door as soon as the wash is finished. Especially if at that moment they were nearby and saw that the timer showed “zero minutes.” You shouldn’t do this: any SMA “thinks” for another 2-3 minutes and only after that unlocks the door. So if this is your case, just wait a little. If after a while nothing happens, you will have to open the hatch forcibly. We tell you how you can do this.
Why won't the washing machine open?
There are a number of reasons why the device's hatch may become blocked. In such situations, home appliance service technicians strongly advise against trying to open the lid by force. This will not help solve the problem, and the handle may break.
First of all, if the door of the washing machine does not open, you should try several actions that do not require the presence of specialists.
Water in tank
The main task of the lock is to protect the machine from possible leakage. The block is removed only when the sensor gives a signal to drain the liquid. When a breakdown occurs in the drainage system, all the liquid remains inside the tank. In this case, the reasons may be the following:
- pump failure;
- blockage;
- breakdown of the pressure switch (water level sensor) - a faulty pressure switch cannot recognize the presence of liquid in the drum, and therefore does not start draining.
When the device does not automatically remove water, this mode can be activated manually. Most machines have a “Drain” function. After the liquid is removed, the unlocking will occur and the door can be opened.
Timed out
Completing the wash is the main requirement for the door to open. In some devices, unlocking occurs immediately after the sound signal for the end of the program; in other devices, a delayed action is provided. In this case, the hatch opens after 2-3 minutes. During this period of time, the use of force will be useless. The correct solution is to wait a few minutes.
Lack of electricity
If the power supply is cut off during washing, the set program is lost and the panel on the appliance goes out. In this case, you can act in 2 ways:
- Waiting position. When power outages are short-term, there is no need to do anything. As soon as the supply resumes, the wash can be continued.
- Active position. If the power is turned off for a long time, it is not recommended to leave the laundry in the water, but you will not be able to open the washing machine hatch. The sensor detects the presence of water.
You cannot use a cable in these cases. When the lid is opened, all the water will flow onto the floor. There is only one way out of the situation - manual draining through the filter. You need to remove the front lower panel of the device and drain the water into a basin. You should be prepared in advance that there will be a lot of water (up to 15 liters).
When the tank is empty, the lock will be removed. If after this the door still does not open, further troubleshooting is needed.
Stopping the program
Among the most common malfunctions, technicians mention stopping the program. In this case, all stages of washing have already been completed, but the timer indicates that there is still time left. The reasons for this may be different:
- There is still water inside the device (it does not drain);
- lack of fluid (water intake does not occur);
- failure of the heating element;
- pressing buttons on the panel after the program had started, resulting in the hatch being locked.
The cause can be identified by exclusion. However, if it was not possible to open the locked door from the washing machine, the fault lies in the electronics. Self-repair of this system is not recommended, because... this requires specialized tools and experience.
Lock latch malfunction
Another reason for the hatch blocking is the breakdown of the latch itself. It often jams when a foreign object gets into the lock. For example, clothes can get caught on it. You need to unlock the door in several steps:
- De-energize the device (pull out the cord from the outlet).
- Remove the top panel of the washer.
- Find the lock lock and check it. If there is tissue blocking the shutter, remove it using a screwdriver.
- Return the top panel to its place, connect the equipment to the network and continue washing.
Experts advise not to tilt the machine while checking the blocker. When moisture gets into it, the electrical module shorts out.
Handle damaged
The lock can also become blocked in cases where the hatch handle is broken. This happens due to normal wear and tear or when pressed hard. You can replace a broken handle with a new one without involving specialists, because... the door has a simple structure.
The work must be done in the following sequence:
- The lid is removed from its hinges. This will make it easier to access parts and speed up work.
- Unscrew the bolts that connect the 2 plastic rims.
- Separate the rims and then work only with the one to which the handle is attached.
- The structure is carefully dismantled. It is important to remember the sequence here, because... The lock will need to be assembled correctly.
- The broken part is replaced with a new one and the door is assembled.
Failure in work
The door in the machine may be blocked due to a glitch in the program, but this does not happen often. Several factors contribute to this:
- natural wear and tear of the hardware (occurs in devices with a service life of more than 10-15 years);
- power outage during washing;
- moisture getting on the electrical board.
If a blockage occurs due to interruption of the wash as a result of being disconnected from the network, it is enough to reconnect the device to the outlet and restart the program. When the device is restarted, the block is removed. In other cases, the device owner will not be able to solve the problem on his own - the help of a specialist is required.

Technical Troubleshooting Guide
If the lock or water level sensor fails, this will be indicated by an error code on the device screen. If you are confident in your abilities, you can carry out repairs yourself, otherwise call a specialist.
Instruction #1 - drain the water from the tank
Many cars are programmed so that if there is liquid in the tank, the hatch will remain locked. Then you should drain it yourself.
The drain hose must be disconnected from the sewer and its free end lowered into any container that must be placed below the level of the tank in advance.
If you see that there is water left in the drum after washing, then immediately turn off the power to the machine. Use a forced drain hose
If the first method does not work, then you should inspect the filter, which is located on the bottom of the front panel.
It’s extremely simple: remove the decorative panel, unscrew the filter, tilt the washer and place a basin, then get rid of the water, clean the filter and screw the part into place. Activate the “Rinse” or “Spin” program.
If after these steps the water is still inside the drum, then the drain pump pipe is clogged. To get to it, you need to place the washing machine with its back wall on the floor.
First place some soft rag or towel on the floor under the device so as not to damage the equipment. Once access to the bottom of the device is gained, finding the pipe is not difficult. Unscrew the fastener, disconnect the hose and remove the water.
Instruction #2 - changing the hatch locking mechanism
If the problem is in the locking device, then this will require a complete replacement of the unusable part with a new spare part.
The hatch locking device is one of the key parts of the washing machine. It is better to entrust its repair or complete replacement to a specialist
Just follow the recommendations if you are confident in your abilities and decide to do it on your own:
When the door locks and opens after finishing the wash, then everything is done without errors.
Instruction #3 - replacing a broken door handle
First, turn on the emergency opening mode, if your car has one. Most manufacturers mount it at the bottom of the device near the drain filter.
Visually, it is a cable or lever of orange or red color, by pulling which you can open the door. In addition, you can open the lock manually by disconnecting the top cover of the machine, or use a cable.
To replace the washer hatch door handle, carefully use a screwdriver to unscrew the bolts holding the entire door, remove it and disassemble it
You can replace a broken handle with a new one yourself. When choosing a new part, pay attention to the model and brand of the washing machine.
The replacement itself will not take much time:
It also happens that debris has accumulated in the drain hose, pump filter, or the pump has broken down. It is for this reason that some of the water is retained inside, and the liquid level sensor does not work.
You will be informed about this situation by a flashing error on the display. First, you should inspect and, if necessary, clean the outlet hose (it is located at the bottom of the machine). After this, you need to drain the water, and then the hatch will open.
To remove water trapped in the drum, carefully disconnect the drain hose from the sewer and drain the excess liquid.
The situations described above are relevant if you have a machine with a horizontal loading method.
Instruction #4 - unlock the vertical washing machine
If the user has a top-loading washing machine and at one point its door becomes blocked, then you can try to solve this problem on your own. To do this, a number of manipulations have to be done.
Owners of top-loading washing machines should carefully close the drum. If you do not do this, the car will be blocked.
In order for such a unit to work again, it is necessary:
To open a locked hatch, do not use additional tools, as they may damage the equipment.
When you complete the replacement, you should start the wash again.
What is the door lock function for?
Developers and manufacturers of washing machines took care of user safety by equipping their products with a number of useful functions. One of them is blocking the door lock. It is triggered when the machine starts operating and turns off when all the operations specified in the program are completed.
Without a lock, you could forgetfully open the hatch at full speed with a high probability of getting burned by hot water and flooding the floor of your apartment. The blocker consists of a mechanical and electrical part. Like any other technical device, it can break down over time.
Advice! Don't panic if the door doesn't open immediately after stopping the machine. You may need to wait a couple more minutes for the control unit to give the command to open the lock.
Examination
At home, you can only fully check the thermal UBL. To do this, you will need a multimeter, a screwdriver (slotted or Torx) and an electrical extension cord.
First, pull the device out of the case. To do this, remove the collar from the cuff and pull back the edge next to the lock. Then unscrew the two screws that secure the lock to the body and pull it out. We pull off the chip. UBL is ready for diagnostics.

Ask a Question
Don't forget to turn off the power to the washing machine before doing this work!
Standard marking of thermal lock: N,L,C. A resistor passes through N and L. There is a certain resistance at these contacts. The remaining couples are broken up. If the contacts are numbered differently, you can tell by the resistance.
Another option is to connect the light bulb alternately to the terminal contacts, turn on the CMA and run the program. On the contacts that go to the resistor, the light will light up brightly.
How to open the door when loading horizontally
If the door of a horizontal-loading machine is locked as a result of a breakdown, and manipulating the power outage and the spin button did not help, then you should force the door open.
Operating principle:
- Unplug the unit cord from the outlet.
- Open the drain filter panel and check for the presence of the orange emergency release cable. Pull to activate the mechanism.
- If it is missing, remove the top panel, tilt the machine forward and stick your hand to the locking latch to move it to the side.
Any careless movement during operation will lead to damage to the device, which will require its replacement. Therefore, if in doubt, it is better to wait for the master.
UBL with temperature sensor
When electricity is supplied, the UBL locks the hatch in the closed position. It closes the contacts of the switching device and signals that the wash can be started. A special lever mechanically secures the lock. This lasts the entire wash cycle.
And at the moment when electricity stops supplying to the locking device, you need to wait about 2-3 minutes. The latch then retracts and allows the door to be opened.
How does the locking device work?
A resistor is involved in the operation of the UBL. Its resistance increases as its heating increases. This effect causes the two plates that are located in the lock to change their shape. This produces a displacement of the lever. The lever closes the contacts of the switching device.
At the same time, the latch connected to the contact plate moves, creating a fixation of the hatch door. The entire process occurs within a few seconds after the electricity is applied. When the power supply is interrupted, the temperature sensor cools down. Cooling takes 1 to 3 minutes. After which the plates take their normal shape. The contact is no longer closed and latching is terminated.
Method - turn off the power to the machine
Unplug the washing machine from the socket and leave for 10-30 minutes. Afterwards, gently press the door in the lock area and try to open the hatch again.
Note! This method will help if the reason lies in the breakdown of the UBL. It contains a thermal plate, which is deformed under stress, and thus the lock is locked. After disconnecting from the mains, power will not be supplied to the plate, and when it cools down, it will return to its original position. The lock will open.
Replacing UBL
If the lock is faulty, it all comes down to replacement. Restoring functionality does not make sense, because all damage occurs due to overheating.
You can carry out repairs yourself without involving a technician from a service center. To do this you will need: a slotted and Phillips screwdriver, as well as a little skill.
Let's take a closer look at all the actions:
- We remove the clamp. As a rule, it is a circle made of wire and a steel spring. We find it with our hands and pry it off with a slotted screwdriver. We tighten the clamp.
- We pull off part of the cuff in the area where the lock is attached.
- Unscrew the two screws that secure the lock.
- We remove the UBL by hand into the space between the cuff and the body.
- We pull the chip.
- We install a new lock.
- We put it inside the car and fasten the screws.
- We put the cuff back on, carefully working with our fingers.
- Reinstall the clamp. Here you will need the help of another person, or a second screwdriver.
Be sure to check that the hatch is closed. It should click into place.
Cuff with ul
Replacement can only be done if the door opens. Because the mounting screws are covered by the hatch. And if it is closed, then the replacement will not be possible. We will consider what to do if the hatch is blocked in another material.
Emergency opening
Different models have the lever in different places.
Most modern washing machines have a special cable for emergency opening of the hatch (yes, the creators have provided for this possibility). As a rule, it is located somewhere in the area of the bottom panel and is painted in a bright color. All you need to do is get to the cable and pull it.
Important : if there is water left in the drum, you should place some container under the hatch in advance!

Breaking
One of the most common reasons for a washing machine door to be blocked is damage to one of the mechanisms. Most often, the hatch opening/closing handle breaks. This does not always occur as a result of excessive physical force applied when opening the door. The reason for this may be simple wear and tear of the equipment. In this case, you just need to remove the door from its hinges and try to disassemble it.
The hatch door consists of two rims, which are fastened together with screws. These screws must be unscrewed and the structure must be disassembled carefully so as not to lose important parts. A locking mechanism is built into one of the rims. Its structure is not at all complicated, so anyone can understand it. You need to make sure that the latch is in good condition and, if necessary, replace it with a new one. Then assemble the door and install it in place.
How to prevent the problem
Most often, the door of the washing machine does not open due to breakdowns. It will not be possible to completely protect yourself from such cases, because... main components are subject to natural wear and tear. Failure of one part will block the hatch.
However, you can reduce the risk of breakdown as much as possible. To do this, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s basic recommendations, incl. regarding loading laundry and choosing detergents. It is equally important to regularly wash the internal parts of the device, check the filter and contact customer service for preventative maintenance.

Causes of malfunction
There are two types of reasons for door lock failure: mechanical and electrical/electronic.
Mechanical failure
A mechanical fault manifests itself as follows: when closing the door of the washing machine, a characteristic click is not heard. A mechanical problem prevents the hook from clicking into place and we do not hear a click. If the mechanism is working properly, when the hatch door slams, a click is always heard. Possible reasons:
- displaced hook of the hatch opening mechanism . The hook has deviated from its usual position and does not fit into the groove of the locking lock.
- shifted hatch . There is significant play in the hatch; the hatch hook does not fit into the locking lock.
- mechanical failure of the opening mechanism . All opening mechanisms are made of plastic; over time, the plastic breaks due to mechanical stress and then opening or closing the hatch becomes impossible.
- mechanical failure of the hatch lock . The hatch blocking body consists entirely of plastic, which can break due to external mechanical or thermal influence; any defect will directly affect the performance of the blocking for the worse.
Electrical/electronic faults
The electric current does not reach the UBL and it does not work. Possible reasons:
- The hatch lock has failed . Failure of the internal electrical component of the lock: wires, contacts and other elements.
- There is no voltage supplied to the hatch lock . A break in the wires that supply voltage to the interlock, a malfunction of the electronics that controls the supply of electricity to the interlock.

Unlocking secrets for different car brands
To successfully correct problems, you must carefully read the instructions for the washing machine, since equipment from different manufacturers differs in design.
Samsung . If such a situation occurred with a model of this brand, and draining and rebooting for 30 minutes did not bring the desired result, then there is a problem with water removal.
You will need to forcefully drain the water using the emergency hose, it is located next to the filter. In addition, especially for such situations, some models provide cables for forced opening of the door.
Additional information on troubleshooting problems with Samsung washing machines is provided in this article.
LG . You can simply unlock a car of this brand by removing the “Child Lock”. To reset, as well as to install, you must simultaneously activate two modes: “Super Rinse” and “Pre-Wash”. The cycle can then be continued by selecting the Start/Pause button.
Washing machines from LG are easy to unlock; to do this, you need to remove the “Child Lock” mode or hold down the “Start” button for a couple of seconds.
Bosch . To unlock a washing machine of this brand, press the “minus” button. This method will work if your model has plus and minus buttons on the panel.
If the key is lit on the monitor and there is no way to change the mode, you must hold the “Start” button for 5-10 seconds. After this, the hatch will open. Deciphering error codes and tips for repairing Bosch equipment are given here.
Electrolux . All machines from this manufacturer are equipped with a “Pause” function, using which you can complete the wash ahead of schedule. If the water level in the drum reaches a certain point and the temperature drops below +50 °C, the lock will automatically open.
Atlant . Washing machines of this brand are equipped with an emergency hatch opening system. For this purpose, a special cable is installed to open the door next to the drainage filter.
To unlock the Atalnt machine, you need to find an emergency release device for the hatch locking device. It is installed next to the water filter at the bottom of the device
Indesit . Owners of a washing machine of this brand should first check the presence of water in the drum. If it is missing, then you should restart the machine.
When you don’t have time and you need to quickly open the door, just carefully pull the emergency rope, which is located at the bottom of the unit.
If there is water left inside the washer, then activate the “Drain” mode. If this does not help, then you need to manually remove the water from the machine using the drain hose. After this, the machine will unlock automatically. If this does not happen, then use one of the methods described above to force the hatch to open.
Ariston . In units from this manufacturer, the door is blocked due to power surges or as a consequence after a power outage.
To deal with such a breakdown yourself, you have to remove the water. Here, either an emergency release cable or manual drainage of water will help you. Both parts are located in the lower right corner of the machine near the filter
The instructions contain Ariston error codes, probable causes of failure and possible solutions to the problem.
Selecting the “Baby”, “Silk” or “Easy Ironing” programs may cause the drum to slow down or the water may not drain completely. To correct the situation, activate the “START/PAUSE” button or duplicate “Easy ironing”.
Adviсe
- If the door of the washing machine is blocked as a result of a power outage and water remains inside, then before you forcefully open the hatch, this water must be drained so that it does not get into the inside of the machine. A special drain filter is provided for this.
- If the washing machine is new, that is, the warranty period has not yet expired, it is better not to try to disassemble the unit yourself, but to contact the company’s service center directly (the fact is that most companies do not accept goods after repair for warranty service).

How to open a locked door after an emergency stop of the machine
The design of washing machines varies, so the question of how to open a washing machine if it is locked should be linked to the type of equipment. In each specific case, you will have to take into account the brand of the automatic machine.
Opening a top-loading washing machine
In general, the sequence of actions will be as follows:
- Remove the plug from the socket.
- If there is water in the tank, place the pan and loosen the drain plug. Sometimes some of the liquid can be drained through the pumping hose, lowering it as low as possible.
- Find the end of the emergency opening cable for the loading hatch next to the drain filter. It is usually colored yellow or orange. Pulling it will release the latch mechanism.
- If an emergency rope is not provided, you will have to open the lock manually. To do this, you need to remove the top cover of the automatic machine and tilt the body back. In this case, the tank will move slightly away from the hatch. You can stick your hand into the gap to open the latch from the inside.
Opening a top loading washing machine
A jammed top door means that a poorly closed drum has turned and caused a malfunction of the entire mechanism. Most often, the open drum rests on the heating element. The standard way to solve the problem is as follows:
- Turn off power.
- Move the car away from the wall.
- Remove the back cover.
- Remove the belt drive and disconnect the wires that interfere with access to the heating element.
- Remove the heating device and try to close the drum doors through its mounting hole.
- Moving it to a vertical position unlocks the loading hatch.
- Don't forget to reinstall the heating element, wires, belt and back cover.
Helpful information! For some models, the top hatch is unlocked even when the power is turned off. In this case, access to the drum will appear from above. Then you will not need to carry out the dismantling work described in this section.
Solving the problem depending on the brand
Washing machines from different manufacturers have their own specific features related to blocking the loading hatch.
The LG automatic washing machine often does not allow the door to open due to the presence of residual water in the tank. Typical causes of this problem are a clogged filter or a failed pump. Sometimes the signal for blocking is the activation of the child lock function. Please refer to the instruction manual to disable it correctly.
The Samsung washing machine is sensitive to power surges during washing. You can try to fix the problem by restarting the program. Mechanical failure of the lock is also not uncommon for this brand.
The Ariston washing machine sometimes locks the door due to an unfinished program. Some types of treatment do not require pumping out water. Its presence in the drum will not allow opening the hatch. Try setting a different job or follow the manufacturer's recommendations in the instructions.
Hatch locking device
When starting to check, it is important to understand what type of lock is installed in your model of automatic washing machine (WMA). In older SM releases, manufacturers installed blockers with an electromagnet
However, they were ineffective without electricity. If the electricity was turned off during washing, the hatch automatically unlocked.
Another thing is the hatch door lock based on bimetallic plates. They are used everywhere due to their efficient operation.
The structure consists of three main elements:
- thermoelement;
- bimetallic plate;
- fixing device.
How does UBL work? Everything is tied to electronics. The electronic board supplies current to the thermocouple, which heats up quickly. This, in turn, is applied to the plate, which, increasing in size, pushes out the latch. Typically, when you start a cycle, you will hear a click, which means the door is locked and ready to draw water.
The principle of operation of the lock has been disassembled. Now let's talk about its problems: for what reasons does a breakdown occur?
Reasons for the malfunction of the lock in the washing machine
There are two main causes of breakdowns: physical wear and tear and electronic problems.
- Constant deformation of the plates when heated leads to damage and destruction of the element. In such cases, fixation does not work at all.
- Power surges in the network can lead to breakdown of the thermoelement. Then it does not heat up, therefore, the plate remains in place. The short circuit of the control triac results in the door not opening. Current is continuously supplied to the parts, so the latch does not turn off.
What should I do if there is a problem? Check the lock of the washing machine and replace it if it is faulty.
How to check the UBL of a washing machine with a tester?
The first thing that catches your eye when a breakdown occurs is the abnormal operation of the equipment. Here are the signs that indicate problems with UBL:
- The hatch does not open even several hours after the wash is finished.
- A code was displayed on the display of the washing machine, which indicates a problem with the blocker.
- The door will not unlock even after disconnecting the appliance from the power supply.
- During startup, the lock does not work and the hatch does not close.
Most often, either the element itself or its wiring and control module fail. A multimeter will help you accurately determine the cause of the breakdown.
To perform diagnostics, you will need the electrical diagram of the device. It may be different for each model, because manufacturers arrange the contacts differently.
What you need to find out:
- Where is the “neutral” contact located?
- Where is "general" located?
- Where is the “phase” located?
Prepare a multimeter and adjust it to measure resistance. You can get to the lock the same way in all front models:
- Open the door.
- Unscrew the two mounting bolts.
- Bend down the sealing collar.
- Place your hand behind your body.
- Get the UBL.
- Disconnect the wiring.
Now place one tester probe on the neutral contact and the other on the phase contact. Three-digit values are considered normal.
Next, place one probe against the neutral contact, and the other against the common one. The device is considered broken if the values are 1 or 0.
The tester did not find a fault, but the lock does not work? Inspect the lock itself; perhaps the reason is the wear of the bimetallic element. The lock cannot be repaired; it must be replaced immediately. Buy an identical part from the store, connect the wires and install it in its original place. Watch the video for details:
How to perform diagnostics if the sunroof is blocked? There is an easy way to open it:
- Take a thin ribbon.
- Pass it between the door and the SMA body.
- Pull firmly on both ends.
- The latch should give way.
Lastly, the control board is inspected. Its triacs often suffer from oxidation and burns. The reason for this is unstable voltage in the network and high humidity in the room. It is better to entrust module repair to a specialist.
To maintain the functionality of the washing machine electronics, connect the equipment through a voltage stabilizer. Before starting repairs, unplug the plug from the outlet.

A plastic card will help
The alternative method using a plastic card is equivalent to thread. We push it through the side and press on the hook.
But it may not always work; it will be difficult to get into the pipe if there is a bulge in the lock body.
The map will run into it, you need skill.
If the lock is broken
If the methods described above do not help, disassemble the machine by removing the top cover.
The lock itself is directly visible, you can reach it with your hand.
We reach it and pull the metal bolt to the side.
The door opened.
In what cases is it necessary to call a specialist?
Knowing how to open a stopped automatic machine if it is locked, you will be able to remove loaded items from it, but you will not always be able to restore its functionality. In case of any problems with the control unit or in cases of breakdown of critical parts, you should contact a repair shop. To do this, you had to take the simplest preventive measures as little as possible:
- open and close the hatch carefully, without unnecessary effort;
- do not exceed the drum loading rate;
- When the first signs of a malfunction appear, take action to prevent serious damage from occurring.
Watch a video about what to do if the washing machine door is locked.
Limitations for self-repair
Compliance with basic safety rules will save you and your equipment from unforeseen emergency situations.
What should you absolutely not do?
It is prohibited to carry out any work on the washing machine if it is energized. Otherwise, you may get an electric shock. In addition, the rotating drum can cause injury to your hands when the hatch is open.
Do not try to forcefully open the door, especially if there is water left in the tank. Possible electric shock and irreversible damage to equipment.
It is not recommended to “decipher” the error code without additional study of the instructions, even if you are well versed in electronics, as you can completely ruin it. Be sure to read the instructions.
If an error code or the word “door” flashes on the machine’s display, then you should immediately refer to the instructions to decipher it
It is forbidden to break any wires if you are not sure of their purpose, and to correct module failures on your own (especially soldering anything, without experience with such equipment).
Method - emergency cable for opening the hatch
Many modern SMAs are equipped with an emergency door opening cable. Its end is located in the hatch next to the drain filter. As a rule, it has a bright color - red, orange, light green, yellow. To force the door to unlock, you must pull the cable.
How to force unlock?
If you still have the manual for using the washing machine, then you are in luck - usually the manufacturer indicates the sequence of actions for forcibly unlocking the door. If the instructions have long been lost or no information on this issue was found in it, you will have to cope on your own.
- The first thing to do is disconnect the unit from the electrical network. If there is water left inside the drum, then stock up on a basin and rags so that the bathroom floor does not flood with water.
- Then open the hatch behind which the drain filter is located. Near it there should be a cable for emergency unlocking - we have already written in more detail about this above. If the cable cannot be found, proceed to the next step.
- Carefully remove the top panel of the washing machine, being careful not to damage the fasteners. Next, it is better to act with an assistant. Have one of you tilt the washing machine backwards so that the drum leans toward the back panel. Another person should approach the car door from the inside, find the latch and move it to the side.
Emergency door opening
It happens that you urgently need to open the door of a running machine, but there is no time to wait for the end of the entire washing cycle. This can happen if the housewife suddenly remembers that, for example, there is a mobile phone in the pocket of a dirty jacket. Sometimes it happens that the cycle has started, and suddenly an item is discovered that they forgot to put in the drum. There are also very emergency cases when a pet gets into the drum along with dirty laundry.
In such situations, the main thing is not to panic, but to act quickly. First you need to turn off the power to the washing machine. To do this, simply pull the cord out of the outlet. After a few minutes, the emergency drain pump should work and release water from the machine. Once the tank is empty of water, the door opening mechanism will operate.
If this does not happen, open the emergency drain door and drain the water manually. Next to the short drain hose there is usually an emergency cable for opening the machine hatch.
If there is a lot of water in the tank and automatic draining does not work after turning off the power, you can turn the machine back on and set the “Drain without spin” program. Usually after the end of this cycle the door opens.
Before calling the experts, you can try to solve the problem yourself. The main thing is to correctly assess your strengths and capabilities.
A little about security
The operating principle of the UBL washing machine is based on user safety. Without locking the door, no program starts, water does not pour, and the drum does not rotate.

Ask a Question
Theoretically, it is possible to bypass the blockage, at least the thermal one. But this is absolutely forbidden. If some “handyman” does this, he will endanger everyone who uses the machine!
Important points:
- The SMA must be grounded.
- The panel must have an RCD. It will allow you to detect possible current leaks.
- Do not lift the machine to a height, especially on a shelf. Over time, the shock absorbers wear out, and when spinning, the washer may move or even bounce.
- If you have small children, then purchase an SMA with a child lock feature and activate it.
- If water appears, call a professional.
- If the inlet hose is not equipped with the Aquastop system, then after the end of the washing cycle, turn off the water supply valve.
These simple tips will save your nerves and keep you and your loved ones safe.
