Modern washing machines remove dirt from different types of fabrics without damaging their structure or causing color fading.
This is possible thanks to the numerous washing modes that washing machines are equipped with, one of which is “Cotton”.
Read the article about what it is, what things it is suitable for, what are the features of its use and more.
What is this program?
The “Cotton” mode is one of the most popular in all washing machines. This is primarily due to its versatility. The user can change the standard settings, water temperature and spin speed, which leads to time adjustments.
Throughout the wash, the drum rotates at different intensities:
- slowly,
- fast,
- smoothly,
- to the sides.
This promotes high-quality removal of contaminants and prevents laundry from bunching up.
in the Cotton mode :
- cotton and mixed;
- calico;
- linen;
- poplin;
- satin;
- ranfors and others.
Before loading products into the machine, you need to study the information on the label. This will allow you to make precise adjustments and avoid damaging the fabric.
As a rule, adjustment of the “Cotton” program is not required when washing:
- kitchen towels,
- bed linen,
- children's things.
High water temperatures are great for bleaching fabrics, but you need to be careful when caring for dyed items.
How long does it take to wash?
Washing time in the "Cotton" mode depends on the settings selected by the user. If you activate the program with the default settings, it will take about 2 hours 40 minutes . The exact time depends on the washing machine model.
Reducing the water temperature to 40 degrees will reduce the time things stay in the drum to 1 hour 30 minutes. If the heating is 60 degrees, then the wash will last 1 hour 50 minutes. Minor changes over time occur as the spin speed decreases. The lower it is, the faster the program will complete.
Additional functions of the washing machine
The functionality of modern washing machines is truly amazing. Our mothers and grandmothers could only dream of such technical capabilities. Now almost every housewife can easily use them and turn laundry into a simple and pleasant event.
Automatic water level control
Smart washing equipment independently determines the volume of water required to wash the loaded items. This maximizes the time it takes to heat it up and reduces energy consumption.
On delay
If you want the wash to be done at a time convenient for you, use the delay start function. The washing machine will begin the selected wash cycle with the set delay (1 to 24 hours).
No ironing
When this function is activated, the automatic machine blocks the complete drainage of water. Thus, clean things do not have such a wrinkled appearance.
More water
This function is activated to more thoroughly remove powder residues from fabrics. It is also convenient when washing bulky items such as double bed linen, bedspreads, curtains.
Turning off the spin
Used when washing items made from delicate fabrics. Thus, they protect clothes from possible damage. Removing residual water from fabrics is done manually.
Rinse delay
After the last rinse cycle, the water does not drain and the clean laundry remains soaked. This function is activated in cases where it is not possible to remove the laundry immediately after washing. This way, your clothes don't dry out in the drum and don't have any major wrinkles or creases.
Important! Before you remove laundry from the machine, you should turn on the spin or drain.
Half load
If there are only a few dirty clothes, then it is very convenient to use the half-load function. At the same time, the washing time is reduced and the consumption of water and electrical energy is reduced.
Extra rinse
A particularly useful function for washing children's clothes. It helps to more effectively get rid of detergent residues in fabrics.
Water temperature
Washing on the “Cotton” program involves processing laundry at high temperatures. Its maximum value is 90 degrees. However, such heating is only permissible for caring for white, durable fabrics made from natural cotton. Other materials may be damaged during prolonged heating. The main danger is deformation of products and their shedding.
Manufacturers of all washing machines provide users with the ability to change the heating temperature. It can be reduced to 60, 40 or 30 degrees . This is especially true if the fabric contains other fibers in addition to cotton, or the items are not too dirty.
Design and characteristics of Samsung Eco bubble
The equipment is made in calm white or silver (gray) tones without bright accents. The washing machine has a massive hatch in a glossy gray color. On the left is a compact compartment for detergents, and on the right is a convenient control panel with an electronic display. You can select the Eco Bubble function on the panel.
In the middle there is a washing program switch, while some functions are highlighted with a red indicator. In general, the design differs from standard units in Japanese minimalism and functionality. Is this really so, we will consider below.
Main characteristics:
- Eco Bubble washing machines from Samsung have standard dimensions for all models (600 mm x 800 mm x 450 mm);
- modes are switched using a rotary wheel;
- Front loading of laundry, maximum weight – up to 8 kilograms;
- the weight of the equipment is 63 kg;
- electronic control and digital graphic display;
- contains about 17 different washing modes, 5 levels of temperature selection;
- the ability to make 1200 revolutions per minute;
- has low power consumption (class A++).
What is Eco Cotton?
Cotton Eco mode is an additional setting for the basic mode.
Its activation allows you to save water and electricity by reducing the water temperature and the number of revolutions that the machine performs during spinning.
It is recommended to use this mode when things are not very dirty. If you just need to refresh them, there is no need to keep the machine running for 2 hours or more.
Advantages of the “Cotton Eco” mode:
- Possibility of washing things of different colors. Low water temperature does not lead to pigment washing out.
- Save time. Washing takes no more than an hour.
- High quality washing. The program allows you to get rid of foreign odors, remove simple stains, and restore freshness to things.
- Reduced water and electricity costs. The savings are about 40% when compared with the standard mode.
Depending on the SMA model, the default settings may vary, but the average indicators are as follows:
- washing time – 50 minutes;
- water temperature – 40 degrees;
- speed of revolutions – 800 per minute.
Video review of the Cotton Eco mode:
Atlant
The technologically advanced series of Atlant washing machines - Smart Action is equipped with an eco-wash function. It is intended for lightly and moderately soiled items. Its activation leads to a decrease in the intensity of the process, reduces the duration of the wash and reduces electricity consumption. With this mode it is convenient to refresh your clothes every day after work.
04/10/2018 The special ECO 20°C mode in Korting washing machines makes it possible to wash items from different types of fabrics at a water temperature of only 20 degrees. At the same time, compared to a standard program for washing cotton clothes, about 40% of energy is saved, since the washing machine does not waste resources on heating water. In this mode, you can wash clothes of different colors at the same time without fear of the fabric fading. Even when using cold water, excellent results are achieved.

Fast processing function
The quick wash mode for cotton reduces the time by almost 2 times. This program will be the optimal solution in the following cases:
- Items have minor dirt and stains that do not require pre-soaking.
- Things give off an unpleasant odor, such as tobacco. A quick wash will get rid of it.
- Things need to be refreshed after wearing them once.
Features of the mode:
- water temperature 30-40 degrees, heating can be turned off if necessary;
- cycle duration from 30 minutes to 1 hour;
- spin speed 800-1000 rpm.
You can activate the quick wash mode only if the drum is not fully loaded. Ideally, it should be no more than half full.
It is important to understand that pre-washing or soaking is not provided in this mode. Read more here.
Intensive
The main feature of intensive washing is that it consists of several stages that successively replace each other. This allows you to effectively remove even complex stains from fabric.
Default settings:
- Water temperature 60 or 90 degrees (depending on the model of the washing machine).
- Spin – 1000 rpm or more (it can be turned off if necessary).
- The cycle duration can be up to 3 hours.
Washing in an intensive mode involves using more detergents. At the same time, water and electricity costs are increasing.
In addition, the fabrics are subjected to more aggressive processing, so you should resort to it only if necessary, namely:
- persistent dirt and complex stains have formed on things;
- fabrics need antimicrobial treatment;
- things are durable and need bleaching.
It is recommended to load the drum in this mode no more than 2/3 full. Failure to follow this recommendation will result in a deterioration in wash quality by approximately 25%.
Washing takes place in several stages, including:
- Soak or pre-wash, which takes about 20 minutes.
- The main wash is carried out, during which the drum rotates smoothly. It lasts about half an hour.
- Intensive washing is activated, which lasts for 30 minutes.
- The final stage is rinsing and spinning.
Since intensive washing of cotton involves pre-treatment of items, it is necessary to pour detergent not only into the first, but also into the second compartment of the powder receptacle.

Vestel and Whirlpool
In Vestel models, the economical washing function is called “Eco time saving mode”. The washing process in eco mode is as similar as possible to soaking, since it lasts a long time, and the water practically does not heat up.
In Whirlpool washing units this program is called “Bio - enzyme phase”. Its launch makes it possible to effectively remove organic contaminants and optimally use the potential capabilities of washing powders with bioadditives. In addition, there is a significant saving in time for dissolving and foaming washing powder or gel.
Another product of modern nanotechnology in Whirpool technical products is the “Eco-ball” system. What it is? This is a function whose peculiarity is that during washing the powder does not enter the drain and rinse system, and therefore is used more rationally.

Preliminary
The cotton pre-wash mode involves processing items before the main wash. It should be activated in the following cases:
- things are very dirty;
- there are stubborn stains on the products;
- Clothes emit persistent unpleasant odors.
Prewash is compatible with the Cotton programme. Features of the mode:
The water temperature at the pre-wash stage is 30 degrees. If higher heating has been set, the heating element is activated at the main stage.- The maximum time is 2 hours, but most often this stage lasts about 50 minutes.
- Washing powder should be poured into section number 1.
- Liquid detergents are not used for pre-washing, as they will simply flow into the drum in the first minutes of starting the program.
Activating the prewash always increases the operating time of the machine. That is, about an hour will be spent on the initial processing of things, after which the main program will start working. This results in greater consumption of detergents, water and electricity.
Pre-washing is not recommended for cleaning items that are subject to heavy shedding.

Features of washing cotton fabrics
When washing cotton items, consider the following points:
- White durable items can be washed at temperatures of 60 degrees and above.
- He recommends processing colored cotton fabrics at lower temperatures - no higher than 50 degrees.
- Thin cotton items should be washed in cold water. If they have stubborn stains, it is better to use the pre-soaking option.
- Washing in hot water can cause the fabric to shrink, so check the product label before starting.
- To avoid deformation of things, it is better to leave the spin speed within 1000 rpm.
Cotton washing time
Cotton items take the longest to wash in the washing machine. Washing will take up to 3 hours at 60 degrees, and washing at 90 degrees will take more than 3 hours. Cotton is also well saturated with dirt, which is why the water in the machine remains cloudy for a long time, which forces the pollution sensor to resume the program again and again. But despite the duration of the regime, things are washed quite well and do not require restarting the program.
On which SMA is it installed?
The “Cotton” mode is included in the list of main programs, so it is provided on all modern SMA models:
- ;
- Samsung;
- Indesit;
- Bosch;
- Candy and more.
First steps, getting to know the ECO MODE system
We're talking about fuel saving mode, called ECO mode for short. Know that the Eco Mode on the Renault Duster is turned on and off with one button - it is located on the bottom panel on the right.
Controls and all indicators
There is another important switch installed on the same panel. It controls the operation of the transmission: select the LOCK, 2WD or AUTO option.
So, we have learned how to turn on and off the economy mode. Now let's try to understand what it is.
Lean mixture
Everyone knows that reducing fuel concentration leads to one result - increased efficiency and reduced power.
Leaning the mixture – increasing efficiency
The engine controls the degree of leanness of the mixture itself: the period during which the injector remains open is regulated. The longer this period, the richer the mixture will be. In the IVF mode, just the opposite is used - the period is forcibly shortened.
After reading everything that is said here, the reader will decide: the ECO mode must be turned off before the hill in order to increase traction and not switch to a lower gear. But everything will be easier. Automation quickly recognizes when the load on the engine increases, and the mixture does not become lean if it is not necessary. Renault guarantees the reliability of recognition.
Elastic gas pedal
Nothing improves your gas mileage like suddenly opening the throttle. Let's add to this that all modern cars use an “electronic” gas pedal. By comparing these two facts, we will understand how the IVF mode is implemented on Renault Duster.
We save fuel ourselves or turn on ECO mode
The controller ignores sharp presses on the gas. More precisely, he considers them “smooth pressing.” For the driver, everything looks like this: the response to pressing is instantaneous, but the pedal is elastic.
By the way, an experienced driver drives the car himself, just as the ECO system does for him. Pressing the gas should be smooth, and then fuel is saved.
