Even the most experienced housewife can encounter unpleasant shiny streaks on clothes. They are called "lass" and most often appear on trousers. There are usually two reasons for the problem: from the iron as a result of improper ironing or due to prolonged use of the item. If incorrect temperature conditions lead to damage in random areas, then wear gives shine in certain places: knees, step cut, hips and buttocks. Despite the fact that an item sometimes seems hopelessly damaged, do not rush to throw it away. There are a few tips to remove shine from pants.
Method 1 – tea
This is the easiest way to remove shiny marks from trousers after ironing. However, it can only be used on dark fabrics. It should be used like this:
- First you need to brew natural black tea.
- Use fresh tea leaves to wipe the areas where shiny spots appear.
- After this, you should carefully dry the fabric and iron it through gauze.
Advice:
If you are afraid that stains will remain on your item after such treatment, be sure to test this product on inconspicuous areas of your trousers. If after drying the tea you do not notice any stains on them, you can safely use this recipe to combat shiny marks.
Method 2 – potatoes
This method is also more suitable for dark fabrics. You need to use it like this:
- To begin, you should take large potatoes, wash them, peel them and cut them in half.
- Next, you will need to rub the potato cut into the places where shine has appeared from wear. Please note: this should only be done with a fresh, juicy cut. If you have already mashed it a little, or the potatoes have dried out, cut off a slice again.
- After this, you will need to let the pants dry on their own. There is no need to rub them with a cloth or dry them with a hairdryer - this will only ruin the fabric.
After this procedure, you will only need to go through the problem areas with a clothes brush again and iron the pants through the gauze. Now they are completely ready to wear.
Method 3 - gasoline
You can also remove stains from black trousers using ordinary purified gasoline. In this case, you need to work like this:
- First you need to take a small clean rag and put some product on it. Use this cloth to gently wipe the shiny areas.
- Then you need to dilute ammonia with water in a combination of 1:5, put the resulting solution on another cloth and also go over the problem areas.
- Next, you should wash the trousers well and iron them.
Important:
It must be remembered that this method is not suitable for all fabrics. Before using it, make sure that it will not harm your item. Apply a small amount of gasoline to a piece of cloth in an inconspicuous place. If it does not change color and structure, you can safely use this technique to remove lasers.
Getting rid of scorch marks
The effect of removing iron marks largely depends on how quickly measures are taken. The sooner you start eliminating them, the higher the chance of saving your clothes.
To prevent the burned fibers from setting, the affected area should be immediately run under a tap with cold water. Then dilute the washing powder into a paste, apply to the stain, and rub gently. Rinse in cold water.
Note! Do not use hot water to avoid setting the stain.
Mechanical methods
If shine appears on thick fabric, washing is prohibited, or you don’t have the necessary products at hand, another way to remove shine (or burn marks) from clothes will come in handy. It can be erased with an eraser, pumice stone, fine sandpaper or a nail file. Be careful not to damage the fibers. The effect will be enhanced if you first apply lemon juice to the stain and let it dry.
How to remove tan marks depending on the color and type of fabric
When choosing a shine remover, you need to focus on the properties of the material from which the clothes are made, so as not to completely ruin them. Before removing shine from fabric, you need to check the type of material and color fastness.
Removing shine from dark items
Mustard powder diluted with water to a paste will help with greasy conditions. Apply the composition to the area with shine and leave until dry. Clean off the resulting crust and wash the product.
Natural fabrics
There are several ways to save things. Before work, it is recommended to check from the inside out whether the material sheds and how it reacts to the chosen product.
Rescue methods:
Linen, silk. Dilute sour milk (yogurt, kefir) in water, soak the product in it for 8-10 hours. Rinse, then wash in the desired mode.
Silk. Apply a paste of baking soda and water onto the stain and leave for 2-3 hours. Shake off the dried mixture and remove the remaining residue with a brush. Repeat the operation until the gloss disappears.
Wool (white). Wipe the shine with a solution of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, and wash the item. Composition of the liquid: for half a glass of water – 3-5 drops. alcohol, 1 tsp. peroxide.
Chiffon. Mix equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide (1%). Moisten the lasses and leave for a while. Rinse the product and then wash it.
Yellowish iron marks on white shirts can be removed with boric acid diluted with water (1:1). Wipe the stain with a moistened cotton wool, wait 10-15 minutes, then wash the clothes.
Removing shine from delicate fabrics
Capricious materials should not be exposed to high temperatures and aggressive agents. You need to remove the shine gently:
- Tea. Wipe the shiny area with strong tea leaves.
- Soda. If the stain is small, you need to moisten it with water, sprinkle generously with soda, wait a couple of minutes and gently rub the affected area. The final stage is washing the entire product. If the method does not work, repeat the manipulations.
- If rubbing the item is not an option, then you will need a paste of baking soda and water. Apply it to the stain and leave for 2-3 hours. Shake off the dried soda, and remove the remaining residue with a brush. Repeat the operation until the gloss disappears.
Method 4 – soap
Ordinary laundry soap can also remove stains from a student’s trousers or your favorite suit pants. You can clean your clothes with it like this:
- First, you should prepare a weak soap solution. To do this, you need to use only ordinary laundry soap without impurities or dyes (such products usually work worse).
- Next, you should take a small brush (if you don’t have one, you can use a fresh kitchen sponge), put a small amount of soap solution on it and wipe the shiny areas with it.
- After this, all that remains is to let the trousers dry and iron them through gauze.
If you don't want to bother with a sponge, you can use a mild soap solution in another way. All you need to do is moisten the gauze through which you will iron your trousers in the future in this solution. In order to achieve the best effect from such cleaning, use a weak solution of vinegar: you will need to wipe the pants with it before ironing.
Method 5 – vinegar solution
Shiny shine from trousers can be easily removed with a weak solution of vinegar. It is very simple to use: you just need to soak your trousers in this solution for a while, and then dry them and iron them through gauze. This technique will remove light shine the first time.
You can also do this differently with your trousers: take a small woolen rag, put vinegar on it and wipe the problem areas with this rag. This option is suitable for cases where shine has formed only in small areas.
Household chemicals
The remedies are used immediately or when home remedies do not help. Options for removing shine:
- Soak the disc in Vanish, apply lass, after 10 minutes. wash off the stain remover. Wash the product with Domal Sport Fein Fashion, Laska, Profkhim.
- Apply K2r spray and leave until dry. Clean with a brush and wash the product.
- In some cases, bleach helps. Use only on non-fading fabrics.
Method 6 – steaming
This method will help remove marks on the butt and knees that have only recently formed. It is used like this:
- To begin with, wash the trousers as usual.
- After this, the product is hung over a basin of hot water and left there for several hours. During this time, the steam will enter the pores of the fabric and smooth it out.
- After this, the product should be removed and a good walk with a clothes brush over the most problematic areas.
Next, all you have to do is iron your pants correctly. If you manage to do this, shiny marks will no longer appear on them.
Synthetic fabric
Removing an unsightly stain from synthetics is quite simple:
- Soak a piece of gauze in a solution of water with the addition of acetic acid, and then squeeze it well. This is necessary in order to remove any remaining moisture.
- Turn on the iron and set the panel to steam mode.
- Place gauze folded in several layers on the item and gently iron the desired area. The steam neutralizes the shine on the fabric due to the acidic environment of the solution.
Important: for 100 ml of water you need to add 100 ml of 9% acetic acid. Do not forget that for safety reasons it is better to protect your face with a mask and your hands with rubber gloves. Animals and small children should be temporarily restricted from entering the room where you are going to perform the procedure.
Method 7 - ammonia
A weak ammonia solution also removes shine from wear very well. To prepare it, add only two tablespoons of ammonia to a glass of water. The resulting mixture is collected on a cloth and the problem areas are wiped with such a cloth. After this, the fabric is ironed through gauze.

Important:
If this method does not give you the desired effect the first time, you need to take the solution and add another teaspoon of salt to it. If you do everything correctly, you can deal with the problem easily and quickly.
How to clean a white shirt
You can remove a shiny mark from a light cotton shirt using water, ammonia and peroxide:
- Stir 1 teaspoon of peroxide and 5 drops of ammonia in half a glass of water at room temperature.
- Soak a piece of gauze in the liquid, place it on the stain and wait 10-15 minutes.
- At the end of the procedure, wash the item and iron it again.
Important: this method is suitable for removing marks from white things. For bright fabrics (pink, blue, yellow) the composition is not used, as the color may fade or even lose its saturation.
Method 8 – pumice
This option on how to clean a thing is only suitable for products made of very dense materials. Using it is extremely simple: you will need to take a pumice stone (if you don’t have it, you can use sandpaper) and gently rub the lass with this product. This must be done very carefully, otherwise you risk damaging the fabric.
Important:
Before treating pants in visible areas in this way, be sure to test this method on an inconspicuous area. This way you can determine whether this method is worth using or not.
How to prevent pants from becoming shiny after ironing
So, you know how to quickly remove shine from pants. Now it’s worth figuring out how to make sure that it doesn’t appear on your things after ironing. To do this, you need to follow these simple recommendations when working with such a thing:
- It is best to iron trousers inside out. This will significantly reduce the risk of shiny stains forming on the fabric.
- Gauze or thin light cotton should be placed on top of the fabric. It is especially important to do this if you are working with an item made of natural material, for example, wool.
- If you know that your iron tends to leave marks on fabric, you will need to fill it with water and a little vinegar. This will not spoil the fabric, but will prevent the appearance of a greasy sheen on clothes.
It is also necessary to always adhere to the temperature conditions for processing the item recommended by the manufacturer. After all, it is precisely because of its violation that in 80% of cases iron lashes appear.

Why does shine appear?
The main reasons for the appearance of gloss on trousers are named: iron and constant use. If shiny spots appear in a chaotic manner, then you should think about whether this item of clothing is being ironed correctly.

In most cases, the fight against shiny areas comes down to using available ingredients that can be found in almost every home. At the same time, it is also recommended to familiarize yourself with methods for preventing the appearance of these stains and begin proper care for this type of product.
