Ideal jeans hide flaws, emphasizing the advantages of the figure. It happens that a person searched for a long time for a suitable pair for him, found it, and it fit him like a glove. Naturally, he will acquire this thing. Fitting takes 5–10 minutes. When a customer wears it throughout the day, they may end up with an unpleasant surprise - blue legs or stained underwear. The reason is that the jeans are dyed, what to do in such a situation? The problem is not new and there are a number of actions that will help avoid such embarrassment in the future.
Why is this happening?
When you put on brand new jeans for the first time and walk in them for several hours, you feel like a beauty. But what a disappointment it is when, after taking off your street clothes, it turns out that your legs have turned blue or black (depending on the color of the jeans themselves). And my favorite light T-shirt also got dirty in the places where it came into contact with the new thing. There is nothing to feel except disappointment at such moments. The question arises: why did this happen?
Cotton jeans are usually dyed with natural dye. Fabric fibers do not always completely absorb all the pigment, which is why such confusion arises. But don’t worry – the problem can be solved! At the same time, jeans will not lose their attractiveness, because with the help of such a “specific” procedure only excess dye will be washed off.
Main reasons
Many people mistakenly believe that shedding of denim items indicates their low quality. In fact, it's the other way around. High-quality jeans from renowned manufacturers consist largely of cotton and are dyed with natural dyes. The pigments of these paints are not completely absorbed by the fibers. Excess comes out during the first wash and wear. This explains why light and pale blue jeans do not leave marks on the body or clothing. They just don't have enough pigment.
It may seem strange why cheap products are not susceptible to this? The reason is that when painting them, synthetic paints are used, which are more durable.
Preparatory procedures
Before you start washing, you need to perform a few simple maneuvers:
- turn the pants inside out, fasten the fly and all the buttons;
- In a bowl of warm water, dilute table salt in the proportion of 1 tbsp. l. for 1 liter of water;
- soak the jeans in this basin and keep them there for 30 minutes;
- After the time has passed, take the item out and squeeze it well.
Important!
You should not keep your jeans in salt water for more than half an hour. Prolonged exposure risks tissue damage.

Let's start washing!
Pour clean, slightly warm water into a basin and add powder. It is necessary to use a powder that does not contain bleach. Such data can be checked on the packaging. An alternative to powder is the most common laundry soap. It can be finely grated and diluted in water.
Advice
Many people like to wash things in hot water. But if your jeans are fading, then you don’t need to do this. For items that shed, you should use warm water.
Add salt to the soapy water (a few tablespoons will be enough). We immerse the jeans and wash them by hand. If you wish, you can use a brush, but you should only take one with soft bristles. A brush that is too hard can damage the fabric.

Where to begin
When your body is painted with new jeans, don’t be too upset: the main thing you should do is be proud: after all, this means that you are the owner of the “original”. However, jokes aside, but, as they say, it’s good, but not very good: not everyone will like to take off their trousers and see blue marks on themselves and rush to the shower. What to do to prevent jeans from staining?
It’s quite simple to check whether you should expect such a surprise from your new item: you need to take a piece of clean white “hebeshka”, moisten it with water and lightly rub your pant leg. If at the same time the fabric is dyed and a colored spot appears on the white flap, be prepared for the fact that the skin after new pants may acquire the corresponding “war paint”.
Gradually, as you wear and wash, the color transition effect will disappear. However, you can try to avoid unwanted consequences. To do this, you need to wash your jeans properly before wearing them for the first time.
You should start with:
- soak them in warm soapy water. We emphasize that it is soapy: washing powders or any other detergents will not work;
- While the soaking process is in progress, pour a full bath of hot water so that the product can be completely immersed, and add soap shavings to it (grate laundry soap) and 2 table. spoons of table salt;
- remove the product from the basin;
- Having stirred the soap-salt solution well in the bathroom and waited until it cools slightly, lower your pants into it;
- Use a soft brush to walk along the entire length, from top to bottom, repeating the manipulation several times. Do not press too hard to avoid damaging the fabric. Excess paint will go into the solution;
- After draining the blue water, rinse the product in the shower, first from the front and then from the back, making the pressure as powerful as possible. It is necessary to wait until the colored streams stop flowing and become clean;
- Pour water into the bowl again (cold this time), adding 3 tablespoons. spoons of 9 percent vinegar. Dip your trousers into it and gently squeeze out;
- let dry without twisting.
Trousers washed this way will fix their coloring and will not leave it on your skin.
Rinse Features
You will need to rinse the item in several approaches. The first stage is rinsing in the shower. To do this, the jeans are placed at the bottom of the bath and washed well. The pressure should be increased and cool water should be turned on. In this case, the pants need to be tugged and wrinkled in order to quickly wash off the excess dye from them. After rinsing on one side, turn the jeans over to the other side and repeat the procedure.
We proceed to the second stage of rinsing. This procedure will answer another, no less important, question - how to fix the paint on jeans? It is during the second rinsing stage that the paint will set. To do this, take the same basin and fill it with cool water. Regular table vinegar is added to the water. It will be enough to take half a glass. The jeans are placed in a basin and kept in it for 5 minutes, after which they are gently wrung out.
Advice
Vinegar water can be used for more than just fixing dye to jeans. The dye is fixed in this way on any fabric.
Will there be a specific smell left?
Many people are confused by the strong smell of vinegar. Therefore, they do not dare try the method - they are afraid that it will “saturate” the denim fabric so that they will then be embarrassed to appear in public. However, experts, as well as people who have used the old advice, note that the specific smell quickly dissipates. Especially if you dry your jeans in the wind (near an open window, on the balcony or on the street).
It is also important to add: you should not treat jeans with a vinegar solution in an enamel bath, so that marks and stains do not remain on the snow-white surface, which will be difficult to clean later.
How to dry jeans?
The main rule for drying jeans is to hang them by the waistband. When jeans are dyed and the above procedure has been carried out on them, you cannot hang them on the dryer, folded in half. It is necessary that the water drains from them evenly, but when folded, this effect cannot be achieved. Plus, the break will be difficult to smooth out.
Machine washable
Sometimes there is too much excess dye in denim, and hand washing alone, even such a “multi-stage” one, is not enough to remove it. When, after manual processing, the desired effect could not be achieved, and new jeans are dyed, what should you do?
There is a solution: you can try to deal with them using a washing machine. However, automatic washing sometimes leads to discoloration of the fabric.
To avoid this, you must adhere to certain rules:
- Before loading the trousers into the drum, you need to turn them inside out, freeing the pockets from various small items and handkerchiefs, which can also fade and leave stains on the denim.
- The process program must be selected correctly: “delicate” or “hand wash”. Some models also have a special mode “for denim”. The temperature of the water should be between 30 and 40 degrees, the speed should not exceed 800. You cannot spin the product, but if it is impossible to completely turn off the spin, set the regulator to minimum.
- Do not soak pants before machine processing.
- The detergent should not contain bleaches or alkalis. It is better if it is not powdered, but liquid, or in capsules. To protect against discoloration, it is recommended to use a color stabilizer.
- Women's denim trousers often have various decorations on them, so it is better to put them in a special bag to preserve the decor.
Dry the washed item at natural temperatures, avoiding sunlight. Thus, by studying the recommendations given, you can get detailed answers to the question of what to do if your jeans stain when worn.
How to check the result?
To check the result you will need a small piece of white cloth. We wet a small area on the jeans using three previously prepared rags. If there are no marks left on it, then the problem is solved, you can put on jeans with confidence, without fear of turning into a “blue man”. But in the case where traces remain on the fabric, the procedure for fixing the paint must be repeated.
Fading jeans are a common problem that affects even the most expensive models. Therefore, manufacturers always recommend washing the product after purchase. To prevent jeans from staining again, you just need to put in a little effort - and you can enjoy your purchase.

Is it possible to return jeans back to the store if they are dyed?
By law, any item can be returned within 14 days. Very often there is a note on the labels of jeans that indicates that the jeans can be dyed. There is also a warning that such clothing should not be worn in the rain. Therefore, if there is such a mark, then it is unlikely that your product will be accepted back. If there is no mark, and the clothing certificate contains a note about dye fastness, then you can return the product. Just hurry, you only have 14 days from the date of purchase.
Even some well-known manufacturers make a note that jeans can stain and fade in the first few washes. This is due to the naturalness of the dye.

Rinse
You will have to rinse in several stages. The most convenient way to do this is by laying the jeans at the bottom of the bathtub and running them from the shower with strong water pressure. While rinsing, lightly squeeze and rub the pants with your hands to speed up the process of getting rid of the stained water. After one side of the product is processed, turn it the other side up and repeat the procedure.
For the first rinse, you can turn on the water at room temperature, and then gradually lower it to cold.
After you have rinsed the product in the shower, pour a little regular vinegar into a basin and add cool water. The vinegar solution helps to fix the coloring pigments, and you can do the last rinsing step in it not only for denim, but also for any other materials that are prone to shedding. Dip your jeans in water with vinegar, hold them in it for a few minutes, and then gently wring them out without twisting them.

Drying
Jeans should be dried in the same position in which you washed them, that is, inside out. To dry, hang them upright with clothespins at the waist. You should not bend the trousers and throw them over the rope - in this case, noticeable grooves will remain on the trouser legs after drying, and you will have to make some efforts to smooth out these marks.
After washing, do not twist or wring out jeans too much. Otherwise, after bending the fabric, the material will take longer to dry, the paint will dry unevenly, and smudges will remain on the material. To dry, turn the items inside out and fasten them to a rope on your belt.
Do not throw the material over the rope, otherwise it will leave streaks and marks. In addition, after drying, such a thing is difficult to straighten and smooth. During the drying period, shake the item periodically so that the fabric dries evenly. Wear or store jeans only after they are completely dry.
If you wash and dry correctly, you won't have to iron your denim. If you need to iron the fabric, do it from the wrong side with an iron with minimal heat. If your jeans are heavily faded, faded or faded, you can restore the original color by dyeing.
