Types of patches
Today there are many options for patches. Before you start repairing clothes, you need to decide which one will be used.
Depending on their properties, patches are divided into several groups:
Set-in patch
- Set-in items are decorative items that can be of any shape. They are sewn onto the front part and help combat damage to fabrics, and are also used as decorative elements. With these patches you can restore the area between your legs.
- Double-sided - these patches are represented by two parts identical in shape, which only differ in size. In order for the patches to serve a decorative function, they are sewn on by hand with blind stitches. Used to restore items with worn knees and elbows.
- Invoices are the simplest type of patches. However, they are not reliable. Used to repair damage to any item of clothing.
- Internal - sewn along the contour of the material from the inside. Used in cases where the fabric begins to tear from the inside.
- Functional - used to strengthen parts of clothing in such a way that it looks aesthetically pleasing. These patches can even be used to highlight new clothing. These types are used on elbows and knees to strengthen the material.
- Decorative - such patches are made from bright fabrics and are found on any item of clothing to attract attention.
- Artistic - represent logos, flowers or animals that play not only a functional, but also a decorative role. Sewn onto various areas of clothing.
Decorative patches on the dress
In addition, before sewing a patch by hand, you need to decide on the material used.
Note! Any patch should be several centimeters larger than the hole
Native fabric
The simplest method is patches made of fabric that matches the texture and color. To avoid purchasing fabric, you can use a fragment. It can be cut from places that are hidden, such as under pockets. And in place of the cut out fragment, other fabrics are sewn.
Patch made from native fabric
Adhesive fabric
When working with abrasions, this is the fabric that is mainly used. Before sewing on a patch of adhesive fabric, steam the damaged area and then use an iron to glue the web. Once all the steps are completed, it is recommended to machine stitch it with a zigzag seam. The threads should be matched to the tone of the product.
Adhesive patch
Lace
An original method for eliminating holes in a product and decorating it. Such patches look especially impressive on denim. They are sewn on just like everyone else. To create them, you can use guipure of any color, but the most impressive thing, for example, is white lace on black jeans, and, conversely, it is best to sew black lace on light jeans.
Thermal patches
This method is considered the most elementary. Thermal patches are textile pictures on an adhesive basis. They can be made in the form of flowers, logos or mice, as well as other animals. Gluing them is very easy, especially on trousers or trousers. To do this, you need to apply a patch on the outside to hide the torn area and go over it with a hot iron.

How to install a patch
There are two ways to mend jeans between your legs using a machine.
Classic version
It is easy to close a hole or abrasion by making a regular fabric patch over the damage. The square patch is quick and easy to sew on, which is why it is the most popular.
To make a square patch, you need to cut out a square from the fabric that will cover the hole, leaving 0.5-1 cm for the hem. Then the part should be ironed, bending the edges and secured to the jeans. Experienced craftswomen can use pins for this.
For those who are not confident in using a sewing machine, it is better to baste the patch by hand. Next, the square must be sewn to the jeans, placing the seams around the perimeter of the workpiece.
This method can be difficult if the hole is in a hard-to-reach place. In this case, you can simplify the work if you slightly open the nearest factory seam. After the hole is sewn up, all that remains is to carefully stitch the seam, choosing threads of the desired color.
Recovery
It is possible to mend jeans between the legs using a machine even when the damage is large and the patch option is no longer suitable. To do this, you should use the restoration method, which consists of completely replacing the damaged part of the product. In this case, the replacement should be made symmetrically.
To work you will need:
- pieces of denim of a suitable color,
- threads of 2 colors: to match the jeans and matching the threads used to make the seams on the jeans by the manufacturer.
Stages of work:
- It is necessary to rip out part of the back seam running in the center, as well as the side seams.
- Cut out the frayed section of the pants.
- Next, on the other side of the back seam, cut a piece of fabric identical in shape.
- The cut piece of jeans should be attached to the prepared flaps and symmetrical parts should be cut out.
- Then all the details need to be basted and carefully sewn into the jeans.
To prevent the jeans at the crotch from fraying longer, it is recommended to cut the insert parts so that the guide threads run diagonally. This will allow the fabric to stretch better.
You can also strengthen your jeans if you use thick corduroy or leather rather than denim. To make the insert look natural, you can sew patches from the same fabric in other places on the jeans.
How to repair ripped jeans by hand
There are several ways to repair torn tissue. In case of minor damage, the places where the tears are made are reinforced with pads; if the holes are significant, a denim patch is applied.
Patch
To install the patch, use cotton fabric with an adhesive layer (dublerin) or any dense material. If the areas of wear are not completely cut out, denim is not used for lining, as excess thickness is formed and the seams are too thick. Jeans will wear out even faster, and your thighs may chafe.
If there is a large area of holes, you will have to cut out the completely worn material. In this case, an insert patch is made from denim of suitable quality and thickness (old jeans will do).
What you will need
Before repairing, prepare a set of materials and tools based on the chosen method of repairing jeans.
Threads to match the color of jeans
The threads are chosen to match the color of the jeans; colors that match the tone of the seams are also allowed. Thread thickness – 30-60, for thick fabric – 30.
Sewing machine
Although small tears can be sewn by hand, a sewing machine is preferable. The seams are smoother, better quality, and last longer
It is important to correctly set the fabric thickness and stitch size (no more than 2.5 millimeters)
Chalk
To make markings on jeans and cut the workpiece, use a tailor's chalk with a narrow edge.

Algorithm of actions
Let's look at the sequence of work:
- Jeans and patch fabric are washed and ironed (except for adhesive materials).
- Turn the product inside out and determine the size of the required patch. The size of the prepared piece should be larger than the total area with holes of 0.5-0.7 centimeters around the entire perimeter.
- Sew the cut piece from the inside out with a basting stitch, make sure there are no folds, bubbles, and all holes are carefully covered with a patch.
- Depending on the type of patch material, iron it with an iron (adhesive) or make multiple seams using the plastering method.
Price issue
Installing a patch or reinforcing fabric will not cost much. The cost consists of the price of dublerin (100-200 rubles per meter), the purchase of threads and needles of the required size, if they are not at home.
The cost of repairs in the studio depends on the class of the establishment and the complexity of the damage. Usually it is possible to meet the amount of 500-1000 rubles.
Round adhesive patches
Adhesive fabric patches are the easiest way to repair holes. For jeans, choose dense fabric such as calico, dublerin, which most closely matches the density of denim. You can purchase a ready-made round patch or cut it out of adhesive material.
To glue the fabric, use the iron in the “Wool” mode. Iron one place at a time 5-6 times until the tissues are tightly connected. After several washes, the glue peels off and crumbles; experienced housewives prefer to play it safe by immediately sewing the patch on with thread.
Plastering
Plastering is a way to mend holes by placing a layer of reinforcing fabric under the holes
For this type of repair, it is important to choose threads that are absolutely no different in color from denim.
Operating rules:
- place a piece of fabric on the wrong side and sew it without folds with contrasting threads;
- on the front side, make the maximum number of machine stitches, placing them parallel to the threads of the denim; it is convenient to use machines with reverse motion;
- the other part of the lines is made at an angle of 90 °.
The bottom fabric is attached to the base with a thick mesh of stitches
It is important to carefully secure all threads with knots
How to sew up a hopelessly damaged product with your own hands
There is no use in mending large holes in jeans. In this case, the item can be repaired by sewing new fabric in place of the damaged one.
Sequencing:
- select pieces of denim that are suitable in size, color, structure;
- rip the jeans apart at the seams - the center seam on the back and the crotch on the inner thigh;
- cut out damaged areas (symmetrically on both legs);
- prepare patches in accordance with the cut pieces (taking into account seam allowance);
- zigzag all the cuts on the jeans and patches;
- sew patches;
- restore all seams on the product.

Please note that the work is complex and requires skills. You can’t sew denim on any sewing machine; you need to adjust it to thick fabric, select the stitch length, and restore decorative double seams. If you have no experience, it is better to entrust the work to a professional, so as not to completely ruin your favorite jeans.
Darning work
Ideal for repairing large damage, which mainly occurs between the legs when walking. You can also repair abrasions of any size with torn edges. Repair involves correcting frayed areas of the fabric.
The scheme of work is as follows:
- A patch made from dublerin. Glue the hole itself from the inside of the product. Iron from the front side;
- Instead of dublerin, we use a scrap in the color scheme of the main product. Close the hole with a basting stitch. In this case, you can use one trick. It is difficult to find fabric to match the jeans being repaired anywhere. Therefore, we take such fabric from the back pocket area. Carefully make a fake out of an ordinary pocket. Cut out the inner part adjacent to the body;
- For high-quality repairs, we carefully select threads that have the same color scheme as the product itself. We use only threads special for darning, or floss in extreme cases;
- If you take threads of a different color, come up with several types of creative darning for repairs in visible areas, in the form of an element of interesting decor for jeans;
- The most serious stage is the stitching itself. We use a hand-stitched stitch. This seam resembles a machine one. Carefully sew small stitches, close to each other;
Plain weave. Using a hoop, stretch the area of damage. We carefully trim the torn edges of the hole and carefully process them with a special overlock stitch.
Using a cross stitch, we stretch vertical or horizontal rows. Make a couple more stitches to close the hole. This type is acceptable for small holes.
Darning on a sewing machine
It is usually easier to mend jeans between the legs using a machine than by hand.
Such repairs will also be more durable:
To repair jeans, you need to properly prepare the area for the patch. It is necessary to cut off all protruding threads. You also need to trim the edges of the hole so that the outline is clearly visible. This will ensure that important areas are not missed when performing the patch.
How to mend jeans between legs using a sewing machine
- Then you need to cut out a piece of denim that matches the color and preferably the thickness. The part should be 1 cm wider than the hole.
- The patch should be secured on the wrong side with pins and sewn on with a few stitches on a machine. It is not recommended to baste the patch by hand, as it will be extremely difficult to remove the basting threads after darning.
- You should darn from the front side, placing the seams as close to each other as possible. Ideal if you can repeat the direction of the denim threads.
- Next, you need to fill the surface with stitches running in a perpendicular direction.
How to sew on a knee
If a section of tissue on the knee is damaged, there are two repair options:
- Classic darning of jeans. For this you need special threads, scissors, a thick needle, and a thimble if possible. The cut or tear is sewn up with tight and small stitches, first in a horizontal and then in a vertical position;
- Decorating a cut or hole. For this you need appliqués, threads, a needle, a thimble, an iron, scissors, and thermal tape. The process is as follows: an applique is applied to the hole and ironed well. If the design does not have its own adhesive base, then you need to “plant” it on special glue or thermal tape. To prevent the applique from falling off during wearing or washing, you can sew it on with threads.

It is very easy to sew up tears between the legs of your favorite pants using a special machine darning.
You will need:
- sewing machine;
- threads matching the color;
- scissors;
- non-woven fabric or a suitable piece of fabric.
You need to turn the pants inside out, put on a piece of non-woven fabric (fabric) that fits the size, and iron the top. Then sew up the worn area with even parallel seams using a reverse stitch. The sutures must be placed as close as possible to the damaged area. A correctly applied patch remains invisible.
A hole between your legs in jeans is not a death sentence. If it’s a shame to throw something away, you can revive it and mend it. In some cases, this is painstaking and time-consuming work. But by following the recommendations listed, you can get rid of the hole so that no one will guess about its presence in the past.

How to sew a hole in jeans between the legs
Mending jeans between the legs using a machine may seem like a boring solution to the problem for some. Especially when modern fashion welcomes street style.
To take advantage of the opportunity and add a “zest” to your favorite pants, you can choose a deliberately bright thread for darning or, using traditional darning, perform sashiko stitches or any other embroidery.
How to fix a hole in your knee
You can decorate a torn knee using the Japanese technique of sashiko. Sashiko embroidery consists of simple forward stitches made with contrasting thread that can be worked in any direction.
Stages of work:
- You need to cut a rectangular piece from the desired fabric. This part should be 3 cm larger than the hole.
- Having placed the patch on the inside, you need to baste it. Since the hole is on the knee, the fabric of the patch should not be stretched, otherwise the knee will be difficult to bend.
- To ensure that the rows of sashiko stitches run smoothly, it is recommended to draw the lines with chalk, a piece of soap or a special washable felt-tip pen.
- Stitches should be short on the front and long on the back. In this case, a number of stitches must be made with a needle at once, collecting the fabric into an accordion.
- How many rows to make depends on the imagination of the craftswoman. The main thing is that there are enough of them to secure the patch on the knee.
How to remove a hole in your butt
Holes do not always need to be darned or sewn up using classical methods.
Damage to pants on the butt, hidden behind bright appliqués or embroidery, often looks more interesting and natural.
How to remove a hole in a pocket
Jeans pockets often get worn out. Rear due to friction against outer clothing or chairs. Holes may appear on the front ones when there is a habit of keeping your hands in your pockets or carrying small things in them.
Jeans will look fashionable if you don’t hide the hole, but rather emphasize it. The only thing to keep it from spreading is to secure the edges.
The hole can be given any shape, for example, made in the shape of a heart. Small wear on the pocket can be hidden behind embroidery done with simple stitches. Embroidery and appliqués allow your imagination to unfold as much as possible.
There are many ways to sew jeans between your legs. For some it is easier to do this on a machine, for others it is better to sew by hand. If you have no sewing skills at all, you can glue an applique.

How to decorate a hole in jeans beautifully
In any place other than the area between the legs, you can use ready-made decorative patches. They are available in specialized sewing supply stores. There are various options:
- stars,
- hearts,
- flowers.
Such applications can become a real decoration for your favorite item. The main thing is to remember: when using machine sewing, so that the patch does not come off, you need to tie the threads with an ordinary knot when finishing the work.
Removing a hole in jeans is not at all difficult
Having familiarized yourself with the proposed methods, you can get to work. Repaired jeans take on new life and always look like they were made again.
"Boro"
It begins in the Middle Ages from Japan. Many parallel stitches of the same length. This technique is similar to darning with thick threads.
- A piece of thin tissue will serve as a patch to cover the damage. We take into account seam allowances, approximately four centimeters;
- Be sure to sew the edges of the hole with a stitch “forward with a needle” so that the abrasion does not extend further;
- From the inside, using a basting stitch, sew on the prepared patch;
- We draw lines with a water marker;
- According to the drawing, we sew stitches that have different lengths. Longer on the front side than on the back side;
- We turn the stitch over from the wrong side, continuing work in the other direction;
- We sew five to six rows on all sides of the patch with a seam of varying lengths;
For creativity, we fray the cuts on the patch a little if the patch is sewn from the face. We use different lengths of stitches, you can also use threads of different colors.
Jeans repair. How to restore a hem
And finally, the most common problem for men's jeans is the frayed edge of the bottom of the jeans. Most often this occurs due to the fact that the jeans are slightly longer than required.
But since men rarely pay attention to such “little things,” sooner or later frayed areas appear along the edges of the back halves of the jeans. Despite the “hopeless” appearance of such jeans, it is quite simple to repair them, and at the same time shorten the jeans properly
First, simply take apart and iron the bottom hem. Using chalk or soap, draw a line along the frayed area and use scissors to cut off the bottom section of the denim hem. But it will turn out that there will be nothing to do with the hem. Are the edges of the jeans really going to be fringed like those shorts in the top photo? It's okay, draw another line, just half a centimeter above the formed edge and sew a regular trouser tape, preferably the same color as the jeans.
Place the tape end-to-end on the front side, aligning the edge with the marked line. Sew the tape on a sewing machine, retreating from the edge of the tape 0.1-0.2 cm, no more. You can pull the tape slightly, but not too much, then the appearance of the hem of the jeans will be more beautiful and the hem of the jeans will not turn outward. There is no need to join the ribbon into a circle, just stitch it on top of each other and cut off the extra piece with scissors. You can melt the edge with a lighter.
That's it, now you can wrap the stitched tape inside the jeans so that the trouser tape barely peeks out (0.1-0.2). You can even baste and be sure to fix it with a hot iron before giving the finishing stitch. The finishing stitch should be done not on the front side, but on the back side of the jeans. This way you will immediately “kill three birds with one stone”. First, repair the holes in your jeans. Secondly, shorten the jeans properly, and thirdly, securely reinforce the hem of the bottom of the jeans, because it is not so easy to rub through the trouser tape. Be sure to make sure that after shortening the legs, the length of the legs will not affect the appearance of the jeans and they will not become too short before using this tip! I hope now you know what you can do when your jeans are torn and my tips will help you sew up holes in your jeans.

Patches for jeans in constantly rubbing areas
And finally, the most difficult case, namely, when you have to restore scuffs on jeans in places that constantly rub. It is really difficult to restore the worn spots on the back halves of jeans, at the joints of the legs. First, you will need a sewing machine that can sew rough intersections of denim seams. Secondly, this “knot” of jeans will have to be disassembled and not darned, as shown in the photo, but patches applied. Of course, you can cover up these areas, just like holes in knees or pockets, but this is not always possible or effective. Often there is simply nothing to darn, because instead of fabric there are continuous holes, which can only be restored by replacing these sections. This is when the leftovers from shortening your jeans would come in handy. And it’s okay that they have traces of “cooking” and finishing seams. They won’t be particularly visible on this section of the jeans, but the patches will be the same tone and fabric quality as the jeans themselves. Here's how to use up those leftover jeans. First, take apart the connecting seams of the jeans in this area and the remaining jeans scraps. Iron all the parts, unroll the seams, remove any remaining threads. Mark with chalk a straight line of areas that need to be cut off and replaced with new ones. Before cutting, make sure you have enough fabric for patches. The patches on both jeans legs should be symmetrical. Make a paper pattern of the area to be replaced, just remember to leave seam allowances. In a mirror image, cut out two identical parts. Sew the patches on the jeans using a regular connecting stitch, and finish it with an overlock or zigzag stitch. For strength, you can make a finishing stitch using the same threads as the finishing stitch on jeans. That's all. Now assemble the jeans, do all the finishing stitches and you can wear these jeans for several more years.
Method without a machine
If a hole has formed along the seam or the seam itself has burst, then it is worth meticulously assessing the condition of the fabric. Thin textiles are easier to throw away and forget. But the material is still quite dense, use a popular life hack with a hidden seam:
- Place parallel stitches across the hole, from bottom to top (or vice versa). It will look like sleepers or bridges across the gap.
- Stitch into the seam and tighten.
To make sure everything works perfectly, follow these tips:
- do not cling to the very edge, step back 2-3 mm;
- To prevent the edge from fraying (important for stretch and cheap jeans), duplicate it with a “spider web” - it is inexpensive and is sold in any sewing store.
The advantage of this method is that it is fast, easy, and you don’t even need to match the threads. But the disadvantage is the reduction in size. The unraveling seam will be sewn up without damage. But a hole in a solid piece of fabric will tighten it a little. You can’t sew up rectangular and round holes like that. But if the tear is like a gap, then a hidden seam is the best way to quietly and manually patch the hole.
Blind seam
Restoring abrasions at the bottom edge of jeans or processing the bottom of a trouser leg when changing the length, there is a need to use this type of seam. If a seam comes apart or a pocket comes off, a blind stitch is used to repair such damage.
To do this you need:
- Iron the allowances well from the inside out;
- We make a choice of threads to match the jeans;
- Pull the needle from the face at the edge of the part to be sewn under the seam allowance;
- Repeat, making up to five stitches;
- Carefully pull out the thread, tightening the edges of the hole;
- We continue work until the end of the damage;
- We firmly fasten the working thread with a knot, cutting the thread.
Tools for work
Their choice depends on whether the product will have to be darned manually or by machine. If you have to sew it up by hand, you need to take a household needle of a suitable size. The packaging with needles indicates their thickness and what material they are intended for. For denim, 11 or 14 works well. In order for the thread to insert well, its size must match the needle. The threads must be strong so that the mended hole does not come apart again after a short time. The size of cotton thread is suitable for sewing 50-80, synthetic - 50-60. It is better to use polyester threads. They stretch well and can withstand heavy loads.
Also useful for work:
- scissors;
- pins;
- unnecessary jeans or a scrap of fabric of the same color.
Repair errors
When working with denim, mistakes often occur that you don't have to make.
We will try to apply all our knowledge and experience to avoid mistakes, we will prepare:
- The color scheme of threads for repair must fully match the product. Otherwise, the work will look cheap and not very neat;
- The patches are applied carefully, straightening out any wrinkles that may form. Even the use of appliqué will not hide the puffy areas.
What to do if your jeans are torn on your butt
Any clothing gets old and worn out over time, jeans are no exception. They appear to have holes in various places, but there are all sorts of life hacks on how to sew jeans up on your butt without being noticed, so that you can wear them for several more years.
You can restore them by making an original designer item: apply a patch in the form of an applique, artistically sew it up, or darn it discreetly. Denim fabric is highly repairable, which cannot be said about many other materials.
To sew up torn jeans on the butt, you need to prepare some tools: threads, needles, scissors, the appropriate material chosen to match the color of the fabric, if you decide to make appliqués.
Main repair options:
- Application. A ready-made factory applique, or one independently cut from a material of any texture, is sewn onto the worn part.
- Patch. This is the application of a piece of material that best suits the structure and color.
- Decoration. This method is perfect for restoring children's clothing, but this option is also used for adults. The hole can be filled with embroidery threads, matching them by color. For kids, you can create cartoon characters or sew lace.
- Stuffing. Darning is done on a sewing machine. You can sew up your pants with strings, placing them closely together, thereby filling the hole with threads.
Attention! If the tear in the jeans on the butt is insignificant, it is sewn up by connecting the edges to each other and cutting off the protruding threads.
Small holes can be sealed with non-woven fabric. To do this, you need to cut out a piece of adhesive fabric of the required size and place it on the wrong side, connecting the edges to each other. Afterwards, simply iron the workpiece.
For any defect, you can select a specific repair option, taking into account the availability of materials and the nature of the hole
Plastering
The most used method for repair is to restore denim fabric with dense stitches. It is used when an inconspicuous connection is required, resulting in holes in the most visible places, such as: in the back of the pants. You can close a hole made with a sharp nail or a hole through it, of any shape.
Turn it inside out. Using adhesive cloth, align the edges of the hole and glue with a hot iron. Starting from the center. We do this work from the face along the lobar thread, using a “needle forward” stitch. In this case, the stitch length is up to one and a half millimeters.
- Vertical stitching. We form stitches of medium length from top to bottom;
- Laying stitches horizontally. We sew up the damage with a seam from left to right;
- A continuous seam over the edge over the fabrics being sewn;
- Sewing denim from front to back. In this case, the needle does not pass through the fabric.
How to prevent jeans from fraying: 7 valuable rules
To avoid this problem, you should follow a few simple rules:
Rule 1
If the problem with holes between your legs is a constant, then when going to the store for a new pair of pants, always choose the right size. In the inner thigh area, the trouser legs should not be too tight. The best option is to buy a larger size.
Rule 2
If you are overweight, try to lose it. This will not only save you from the problem of constantly fraying the crotch of your pants, but will also have a positive effect on your health. If you are overweight, no pants, even the most expensive and high-quality ones, will last you long.
Rule 3
High-waist or regular-waist jeans are less likely to fray. If they are normally pulled up and firmly fixed, then the fabric in the area between the legs will not have folds, that is, stripes and holes will not appear. Try not to buy low-waisted models.
Rule 4
If you spend most of your time sitting, try to constantly control your movements. If you want your pants to last as long as possible, try to rise slightly when changing positions while sitting on a chair. This will significantly reduce the wear rate of the item.
Rule 5
Try to properly care for your jeans. Don't throw them in the wash too often. And during the cleaning process, wash either by hand or set the machine to the most gentle mode. Before washing, fasten all buttons, zippers, and turn the item inside out.
Rule 6
If the problem with holes in the crotch area is constant, then try to keep an eye on this area on your pants all the time. As soon as you notice that the first signs of “rubbing” have appeared, do not wait - take the jeans to the sewing workshop. Or seal the fabric yourself.
Rule 7
If you wear jeans exclusively, buy several pairs at once and try to alternate them. You can buy 3-4 pairs for “every day” wear, and 2 “for going out”. This will significantly extend the service life of all products.
Application of thermal decal
Choosing an applique for your jeans is easy. There is a variety of these products in stores. The size of the application must be larger than the size of the damage. We trim the torn edges carefully, trying to make the hole smoother.
We apply the selected sticker to the face and secure it with sewing pins. Apply a damp cloth on top and carefully try to glue the patch through the cloth with a hot iron. The product is cooling down. You can wear your favorite jeans again.
Why do jeans tear between my legs?
According to statistics, every third person who prefers to wear jeans faces the problem of the fabric rubbing and holes forming between the legs. In some cases, this happens several months after purchasing a new item, in others, after a long period of regular wear. If a problem is discovered, you will need the ability to properly sew up or disguise the damage. However, first you need to find out the reasons for the occurrence of holes in jeans, which are as follows:
- Rapid wear of the material in the delicate area most often occurs in those with full, voluminous hips. The larger the girth, the more the fabric between the legs is stretched, which subsequently leads to its rupture and the formation of holes of different sizes. It is among amateur athletes, who are characterized by developed thigh muscles, that jeans quickly become unusable, which forces them to turn to craftsmen in order to properly sew up the product.
- Waddle gait is also one of the main reasons for the appearance of holes in pants in the delicate area due to the high load on the crotch seams.
- For restless people who cannot sit still in one place, the fabric on their trousers between their legs wears out faster.
Important! Poor quality items, for example, thin denim, wear out faster than items made from strong, dense fabric. Therefore, owners of such jeans are often faced with the question of how to properly sew up holes and hide abrasions.
Application of lace patches
This type of repair is only suitable for women's jeans. Such patches will not only cover all damage, but will also become an original decoration and give your jeans a new, creative look.

How to repair jeans torn at the knee: master class
August 15, 2022 This method can eliminate rips and through holes, plus strengthen worn out thin places.
Everyone probably has favorite jeans that you don’t want to part with, even if they have burst, frayed or torn, for example, at the knee. This repair method is not camouflage, that is, the result will not be invisible. It is more like the Japanese way of repairing denim, when the result looks like the original decor.
So, we have jeans that are worn out and, as a result, torn at the knee. Plus, they initially had holes made in them, which were boring, and I also wanted to sew them up.
How to make patches on jeans
You will need:
- jeans in need of repair;
- scraps of denim (matching the color of the trousers or contrasting ones - optional);
— “cobweb” (you can do without it);
— a needle for hand sewing and thread for basting;
- thin threads in denim color or contrasting, if desired;
- thicker threads for the side seams (to match the color of the threads used to sew your jeans);
How to easily repair a torn belt loop on jeans
Jeans must be washed before work.
If, as in my case, you have a piece of other jeans to repair, you need to rip out the seams, wash the scraps and iron them.
Step 2
Turn your jeans inside out. Expand the section of the side seam opposite the repair site plus 10-15 centimeters up and down. Unplug so that it is convenient to work with the repair area.
Step 3
Iron the area where repairs will be made.
Straighten the pant leg and find a place for the scrap so that it covers the hole and some space nearby. In our case, the trouser leg was well worn out in the knee area, so I decided not to limit myself to repairing the hole, but to strengthen the entire area nearby.
The flap can be glued to the “web” or basted.
Step 4
Thread thin threads into the machine in the same color as the denim (or contrasting ones, if desired). Sew simple stitches back and forth. You can use reverse stitching or rotate the work each time. It is better to stitch the area directly around the hole more often. I reinforced the thinning fabric nearby with sparser stitches. The ends of the threads can be brought inside out and tied into knots, or tacked and cut close to the seam.
Wide through holes can be repaired in the same way.
Step 5
When the repair of the holes is completed, you will need to re-do the ripped side seam. Fold the pant leg inside out, align the edges and press.
Pin the pant legs and stitch the ripped area. Use a thread similar in color and thickness to the one used to sew the seam. The seams on these jeans do not require processing, but if your model requires it, process the hem.
These jeans have pressed side seam allowances. If yours is the same, iron out the seam allowances. If the edges of the legs are finished together and pressed, press them as they were originally. Ready.

Save your jeans scraps when you shorten them.
Putting patches on jeans in worn places or holes is not the best or most original solution. But, nevertheless, this method of repairing jeans can be used, especially for children's jeans. The patch can be made in the shape of a cat's head, zigzag the edges of the patch and sew on long whiskers. And instead of eyes, I sewed on a couple of buttons. This or that decision depends on your imagination and the area where the jeans will be repaired. Patches can be placed on both men's and women's jeans in the form of a decorative pocket or symmetrical stripes on both legs. But where can I get pieces of denim of exactly the same color and quality? Unfortunately, solving this problem can be quite difficult. It will be much easier to solve this if you shorten the jeans in a studio or save the scraps, even small ones, with your own hands. They are the ones who can help you out when you need jeans repaired. But if there are no scraps, but there are holes, then you can and should use another method.
