An indispensable assistant in the fight against old stains on clothes, or what does the pre-wash program mean?

Equipped with many useful functions, the automatic washing machine simplifies and speeds up the difficult process of washing dirty laundry.
But among all the variety of work programs, few people pay attention to the “Pre-wash” option.

What does pre-wash mean, what is its purpose and how to use this program correctly we will tell you in more detail.

Where to put what in the washing machine?

But many people don’t know where to put the stain remover. The product is poured into the same container as the washing powder. The stain remover comes off easily when washing. Using a stain remover is an opportunity to remove stains from any item.

Washing before washing

Pre-washing is often compared to soaking. However, this is not a completely fair comparison. This mode replaces manual washing of clothes. It is used if things are very dirty or have stubborn stains. For example, when you need to wash work clothes, a tablecloth accidentally spilled with drinks, or children's pants in which the child fell into a puddle.

How does the function work?

The “Pre-wash” program is compatible with almost all modes: “Hand wash”, “Cotton”, “Synthetics”, “Delicates”, “Intensive”, “Wool”, “Jeans” and others. This is usually an additional option that can be turned on or off. And only in some modes is it combined with the main program, for example, “Cotton” at 90 degrees.

How does pre-wash work?

  1. The washing machine takes in water and heats it to 30 degrees. At this temperature, stains from fruit, coffee, and blood are easily removed.
  2. Then the powder is taken from the compartment, which is intended for the preliminary cycle. The detergent remains intact in the main tray.
  3. The drum rotates slowly to clean the laundry.
  4. The duration of the mode ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the model of the washing machine.
  5. Then the water is drained and the main wash begins.

While the program is running, a powder tray is used, indicated by a unit (Roman or Arabic) or the English letter A.

Correct use of detergents when machine washing

What you need to know

When purchasing and installing a washing machine in your home, you should immediately stock up on suitable, proper detergents. Their modern assortment on store shelves in household chemicals departments pleases the eye with a variety of colors and operating instructions. But it also blows your mind with the need to choose the one that suits your particular case.

IMPORTANT:

Remember the main rule: never use products intended for hand washing for machine washing. They create too much foam, which can lead to clogged hoses and leaks! For the washing machine, we take only packaging marked AUTOMATIC.

Main types of laundry detergents

Let's figure it out. First, let's define the main types of laundry detergents:

  • powders (intended for main wash);
  • liquid formulations (washing gel, rinse aid, stain remover and fabric softener);
  • tablets and capsules (contain a concentrate of dry or gel-like substance for washing in compressed form).

IMPORTANT:

Any type of detergent you choose must be used strictly according to the instructions. This largely concerns the volume of the composition used. Exceeding the dose affects the increase in foam formed. And, as mentioned above, this leads to damage to household appliances.

In what cases should it not be used?

The Pre-Wash function is not recommended for:

  • especially delicate, thin fabrics,
  • hand knitted products,
  • cashmere,
  • wool - all those things on the labels of which there is a warning about the prohibition of active twisting and drying.

It is also not recommended to use the additional soaking option for heavily shedding items (such items must be washed very quickly, by hand).

What is it and what is it for?

Modern washing machines are equipped with a wide variety of functions. With each new model they are added and improved. The panel displays a bar icon with a bracket at the bottom. Some manufacturers designate the mode with a simple inscription.

Pre-washing in a washing machine – what is it and what is it for? It is used to wash clothes more thoroughly. Usually the mode is turned on along with the main one, so the procedure is of different quality, although it takes longer than usual.

What is the difference between pre-wash and main wash? If things are not very dirty, many people wash the items quickly. This type of washing will not help with stubborn stains. The function is primarily used before the following programs:

  • delicate and handmade;
  • cotton;
  • synthetics;
  • baby clothes;
  • intense;
  • jeans.

Useful: how to wash a faded item at home?

Pre-soaking in a washing machine is not compatible with the fast or express mode. We figured out what pre-washing is in a washing machine. But how does it work? Essentially, the laundry is soaked for a certain amount of time. As you know, quality is affected by several factors: mechanical stress, the chosen product and hot water. The preliminary regime doubles the impact of these factors. And the result cannot be compared with hand washing or only basic washing, this is especially noticeable with heavy soiling.

Soaking in the washing machine takes longer than just the main wash. At the same time, the consumption of water and powder increases. How long does the process take? In general, it can be from 15 minutes to two hours. As a result, in combination with other programs, the entire procedure can take up to 4 hours.

Does she always help?

If things are covered with stains that are difficult to remove, then even “soaking” in SMA will not help remove them. Often the users themselves are to blame for this. How to avoid problems:

  • Do not stack laundry with different levels of soiling together. Dirtier products will stain the “neighbors.” Colored laundry may fade due to close contact and high humidity.
  • Do your laundry weekly—don't hoard dirty laundry.
  • Treat items with stains. Remove dirt. If this is not done, then the stains after contact with heated water will become even stronger in the fabric fibers.

Additional programs

These programs are used less frequently and are intended for certain types of fabrics and items.

Antibacterial

Divided into two types:

  • Washing heavily soiled items at 90°C. Duration – 165 minutes.
  • Washing colored fabrics at 60°C. Running time: 79 minutes.

In both cases, things will be pressed at maximum speed.

Night

Designed for people whose electricity and water consumption is cheaper at night than during the day. The machine washes synthetic and cotton fabrics silently at 40°C. The equipment drains the water and spins the laundry only 8 hours after the completion of the main process or at the user’s command (you need to press the “Start” button). Execution continues for 288 minutes.

Kids' things

This washing program is used if you need to wash colored and delicate items. The water heats up to just 40°C, and the technique uses increased amounts of water and several extra rinses to completely remove any detergent residue from the laundry. Running time: 116 minutes.

White things

In this mode, the device washes only light-colored fabrics at a temperature of 60°C and a spin speed of 1000 rpm.

Dark things

Used for washing dark items. The maximum permissible water temperature is 30°, laundry is spun at 800 rpm.

Silk

The most delicate mode used to wash viscose, lace fabrics, and thin curtains. No spin is used, the water is heated to only 30°C, the cycle duration is 55 minutes.

Wool

In this mode, the device washes cashmere and wool items. The water temperature reaches 40°C, the drum rotates in slow motion to prevent damage to the laundry. The number of revolutions during spinning is only 600. The cycle runs for 55 minutes.

Full cycle

A complete washing cycle consists of washing, rinsing and spinning. The capabilities of the device allow you to configure each of them based on individual requirements.

Wash

The choice of the appropriate mode is determined by several parameters:

  • fabric type;
  • decorative decorations on clothes;
  • degree of pollution.

The correct choice of mode affects not only the quality of washing, but also helps protect the laundry from too high a temperature and intense spinning.

Rinsing

Rinsing removes any remaining detergent from the fabric. The Extra Rinse function allows you to rinse off detergents more thoroughly.

Spin

The correct choice of speed is a guarantee of comfortable and easy ironing. Experts recommend using maximum speed only for spinning cotton products. Delicate fabrics, such as silk or linen, should not be wrung out. Otherwise, the textiles may be damaged.

Optimal modes to save resources

These programs are designed to reduce costs - electricity, water, time of the owner and are characterized by a reduced process of washing the product. Different manufacturers of automatic washing machines may have all sorts of names:

  1. Eco . When this program is turned on, the product is washed in cool water. This mode allows you to save electricity.
  2. Time saving (quick wash) . The process time is reduced by an average of 50%.
  3. Express . The fastest wash mode - the entire cycle can take less than 30 minutes. Excellent for saving energy and water, but not suitable for heavily soiled products.

Control panel icons

To find out what a particular icon on the control panel means, you can look at the instructions. Manufacturers often write the name of the mode - then no questions arise.

Most models have the same icon indicating pre-washing - W-shaped. This is the icon used in models from Samsung, LG, and Bosch.

What icons indicate

The designation of modes has not undergone a standardization procedure, so they may differ slightly from different manufacturers of washing machines and will be a picture that will depict a program that is intuitive for the user.

The most commonly used icons are:

  • Wash . For many brands, this mode is depicted as a pelvis. At the same time, by adding certain elements - for example, a hand, the designation of the features of the process is achieved - in this case, hand washing.
  • Rinse . It is depicted by different manufacturers as a bowl with drops or a watering can. By adding certain icons - for example, a clock during a quick rinse - the nuances of the process are depicted.
  • Spin . The most common sign is in the form of a twisted spiral. In some programs it may appear crossed out. This means that the selected mode does not involve spinning.

Adviсe

To fully appreciate all the benefits of pre-washing, it’s a good idea to use a few tips.

First of all, it’s worth remembering: for the clothing pre-treatment option I use only dry powder .

This is due to the fact that liquid detergent or gel poured into the main wash compartment will simply flow into the drum before the start of the working cycle.

Second point: the “Pre-wash” option is incompatible with the express mode. This is due to the fact that express treatment is applicable to things that are not very dirty, for which pre-soaking is simply not necessary.
