How to store underwear: 7 great and easy-to-implement ideas

Sooner or later, any passionate collector is faced with the question: where to store what he has already bought and where to put new purchases.

The issue of organizing the storage of underwear arose for me around the 15th set of my boudoir collection.

Even if you have a huge amount of space allocated for underwear, sooner or later it will run out and the question will arise of how to optimize the collection.

In this article I share my personal experience and how you can make storing and using laundry convenient and enjoyable.

Drawers in the closet

I have one large drawer in my closet dedicated to underwear. Sets, swimsuits, and some boudoir items are stored here.

Bras with thick cups cannot be wrinkled. And others are not worth it either. The most convenient way to store sconces is by nesting one inside the other, as in the photo below. Thus, a large number of bras fold up like a construction set, taking up little space and without deforming.

I carefully fold my panties separately in the same drawer.

I put velvet underwear and swimsuits, or very delicate things, like underwear with a devore effect or with rhinestones, in separate bags so that they do not have friction with other sets of underwear and nothing falls off.

Inside the box, I use small paper bags and fabric bags to organize the space.

Underpants

Briefs are usually folded as follows: the right and left sides are folded in this way so that they overlap, and then the bottom side is folded to form a rectangle or square. Then all the panties are placed on top of each other. If they are stored in containers, then they need to be additionally rolled up.

Panties for everyday wear are placed closer so that they can be quickly taken out. It is better to put sets for special occasions away, because you have to use them less often. Women's panties can be sorted by color, model, season and purpose.

Boxes for underwear orders

Since I have a large collection and little space in the closet, I store the second part in thick underwear boxes.

When I receive a beautiful, thick box with a magnetic flap and a satin “tongue,” my soul sings.

I distributed the boxes according to their intended purpose. I have a separate box for sword belts. This is convenient because you know exactly where the thing you need is.

Another box contains boudoir accessories: single holders for stockings and socks, the often used “basic” garter belt, lace cuffs and so on.

Another box went under stockings, from which I did not keep the original packaging. The rest lie one to one in a paper bag.

But I still don’t have enough boxes or thick boxes. Therefore, part of the boudoir collection is in branded boxes made of thin cardboard.

Sometimes funny stories happen to me with laundry boxes. One of them, a cute box of three Oysho panties, serves as a mini jewelry organizer for me. Small badges, a choker, and earrings now live there.

It’s inconvenient to use one for panties (it’s too small and the panties will have to be folded for a long time so that they take up the original space), but for small jewelry it’s just right.

Proper filling of space

A chest of drawers or 3-4 drawers in a wardrobe are enough for one person to distribute laundry. More space will have to be allocated for several family members. Women also need high sections of the closet where nightgowns and negligees will hang.

If the closet consists only of open shelves, you can put the laundry on them, having previously packed it or placed it in boxes. It is important that the capacity of the space chosen for storage matches the number of wardrobe items. Putting things directly on shelves without using boxes is also possible. But this option is convenient if there is not much laundry. It is enough to provide one shelf for panties, T-shirts and bras, and a second for socks, stockings and tights.

If there are a lot of things, it is advisable to sort each type of linen by color, material, seasonality, or by all criteria at once.

There are two ways to store bras in your closet: on a shelf or on a hanger. The second method is more convenient; it allows you to immediately see the item you need and take it without touching the bras hanging nearby. In the first storage method, bras are placed so that the cup of one product is adjacent to the cup of another, or so that the underwires are aligned. This placement saves free space.

There are 3 life hacks on how to store panties economically. They are folded using a certain technique:

• 
  Collapse. The panties are folded so that the gusset meets the top edge. Fold the laundry along a horizontal axis into a “snail”.

• Rectangular shape. The left and right parts of the panties are folded towards the center. You will get an elongated rectangle. Fold it in half.
• Japanese method "Roll". Place the panties so that the front side faces up. The elastic band is twisted 2 times in the opposite direction. Turn the laundry over, folding the sides towards the central part. The bottom edge is folded towards the top. You will get a “roll”, turn it inside out 3 times.

Socks for storage are connected in pairs. The most convenient way is to twist them into a “snail”. It is advisable to separate light socks made from knitwear and winter socks made from knitting threads.

Hangers

A long dress made of wet silk, a lace robe, a bad jacket - these things are hanging on my hangers.

Important: you should hang on hangers only those things that do not become deformed from such storage.

If you decide to hang your laundry on a hanger, then the best option for this is hangers upholstered in fabric or smooth metal. Or like mine, with velvet application.

These will definitely not damage delicate fabric and will not tighten, unlike wooden or cheap plastic ones.

Some of my underwear, by the way, came with plastic hangers. I don't throw them away, but I don't use them either.

In case of capricious delicate material, I advise you to add a cover to the hanger.

If there is very little space in the closet, a special accessory that hooks hangers one after another will help.

Why is this necessary?

Many citizens who have a large number of items in their wardrobe do not always understand why they need to bother putting things away in neat, sorted piles. Because of this, small wardrobe items fall off haphazardly, which is not good.

For many, it will be a revelation, but neatly folded underwear has the following advantages over panties scattered in a chaotic manner throughout the drawer:

1. The material from which the panties are made does not wrinkle, which increases safety and further shelf life. This is especially true for expensive items that are made from delicate, capricious fabric.
2. You don't have to turn the entire drawer upside down to find those very panties that you really want to wear today.
3. You'll be surprised at how much free space you'll have in your closet once your clothes are nicely folded and sorted into their proper places.

Note! Neatly folded underwear has a positive effect on human health. You won’t have to be nervous and angry looking for clothes that have gone missing somewhere if they are in their place. The nervous system will thank you very much.

Ideas for improvement

In an ideal world, it would be advisable to allocate a chest of drawers or at least 4 drawers in the closet for underwear, accessories, corsets, swimsuits, stockings/tights. Plus extra closet space to hang silk slip dresses and such.

It is convenient if the drawer has dividers or organizers that divide the drawers into small sections. In each section you can put different types of underwear: in one - bodysuits, in another - briefs, in the third, for example, high-waisted panties. Sections will help separate stockings with silicone from those under the belt. Set aside a place for accessories so you can always find them. And so on.

By the way, I don’t understand organizers for storing underwear, where separate cells are made for bras with partitions between each bra.

These things take up more space than if you just stack the bras one to one (like in my photo above). On the other hand, taking bras out of such organizers is a little easier.

In sets and separately there are also organizers with small square cells in which it is convenient to store panties rolled up. Regular, without a lid, for chests of drawers and cabinets, with a lid - for open sections for storing clothes.

If I get my hands on exactly this option, I’ll try to put it in cells and stockings. If the size is suitable, I will order a second organizer specifically for stockings and socks.

Now I’m closer to the option from Ikea with 6 boxes of different sizes for 399 rubles. Enter SKUBB and see all the options.

The largest boxes are for sconces. The rest can be used for panties, garter belts, and accessories.

Here you can no longer fold the panties so neatly, but the separation between sections will still contribute to organization and order and the briefs will never end up in the thong section and vice versa.

The main thing is to check the sizes of your drawers so that the organizers fit them.

How to neatly fold women's panties

There are 6 main ways to fold women's panties. You will need manual dexterity and a flat surface.

How to roll panties into a tube

This is the easiest folding method. The downside of this method is that they get very wrinkled.

Instructions:

1. Level the product on a horizontal, flat plane with the front side facing you.
2. Fold the gusset in half so that the center of the crotch aligns with the edge.
3. Roll women's panties into a tight tube horizontally.

How to fold your panties into a square

To quickly fold panties on a closet shelf or in a special box, use the square folding method. The process of how to fold into a square:

1. Place face up on a flat surface. Flatten. Unfold the elastic band away from you.
2. Fold in half, with the gusset facing the elastic. Smooth out again.
3. Fold the side parts inward. First the left edge, then the right. The bottom edges will meet in the center.
4. Turn over.

How to compactly roll up panties

The roll folding method is suitable for travelers who want to save space in their luggage with compactly folded items.

The bottom line is this:

1. Flatten the item. Place face up.
2. Take the rubber band with your fingers and make a few turns.
3. Turn the back side towards you.
4. Fold the left edge into the center, then the right. One side overlaps the other
5. Fold so that the gusset is even with the elastic.
   Attention! If the landing is high, the last step will need to be performed twice
6. A pocket has formed inside the roll. It is clearly distinguishable. Next, insert your thumbs into the pocket on the sides, turn it inside out, tucking the fabric inside with your middle fingers. Straighten the outer edges and repeat 2 more times.

The result is that the underwear is folded compactly and will not unfold.

Roll folding is a complex process, but its compactness is no different from simpler ones.

How to fold panties with an inner pocket correctly

It's difficult to fold this way. It will take a lot of testing to get it right.

Sequence of actions:

1. Place the product face up.
2. Fold the side zones into the center, one on top of the other.
3. Fold the gusset to the middle.
4. Place your thumbs on the sides inside the elastic band. Turn inside out.

You will get neatly folded panties in the shape of a square with an inner pocket. Folding this way is convenient if the laundry is stored in an upright position.

Attention! Women's panties folded in this way become very wrinkled.

You can use the inner pocket to fold boxers or shorts.

Thongs are also convenient to put in a pocket. Place face down, folding in half. Fold the side part twice. Fold to the gusset, which is hidden in the resulting pocket.

How to beautifully fold your panties like an egg

The result loosely resembles the shape of an egg, but looks denser than a regular roll. The method is used to fold slips and shorts. It is folded according to the principle of a roll, but at the beginning the process is slightly different.

Step by step guide:

1. Smooth out, placing right side up.
2. Take the elastic band and twist it 3 times (roll it, don’t fold it neatly). Leave a small gusset area.
3. Turn women's panties with the back side, crotch towards you.
4. Fold the side parts into the center.
5. Cover with gusset.
6. A pocket has formed, turn it inside out 3 times.

Egg fold option for compact storage

How to file panties

This method is ideal for compact storage of thongs. Place face up, gusset facing you. Divide into 3 parts. Visual fold lines are formed where the fabric folds.

First fold the left edge of the product, then the right. Overlap. Place the gusset on the sides and tuck it into the resulting pocket. Turn the laundry over and place it in the closet.

How to fold your panties into a flower

This is a great idea for a bouquet. An original gift for a woman for any occasion. It is better to use lace underwear of the same tone or different shades.

Advice! The more models, the larger the bouquet.

Life hack - how to fold panties in the shape of a flower:

1. Place on a flat surface.
2. Fold only the side parts in half, leaving the edge of the gusset free.
3. Then fold the protruding corner formed when folding in half towards the middle.
4. Start rolling the elastic into a tube.
5. Attach the finished bud to a stick and assemble a bouquet.

Flowers can be decorated with homemade green paper stems, artificial buds added and secured with decorative paper or ribbon

1. Enough space in a chest of drawers or closet + division into sections, large or small.
2. We place frequently used items closer to the front of the drawer. Those that are rare are further along.
3. We pack velvet items and those that can easily be damaged by friction in individual packages.
4. We do not leave underwear in the light.
5. Throw away items that have lost their appearance and functionality to make room for new ones.
6. If you have a lot of space, you can leave the kits in individual packages. This will make them easier to find.

Where to store laundry

Ready-made closet organizers

If possible, buy special organizers for laundry. They are designed to store panties, socks, tights and bras. Some of them are fastened on all sides, thereby preventing dust from entering. Such organizers can be ordered inexpensively on Chinese websites like AliExpress, or bought more expensively in home improvement stores.

Before buying laundry containers, decide where it is most convenient to place them in the closet. The best place would be drawers. If they are missing, you can use one of the shelves. Make sure the container is sized for your intended storage location.

Internal pocket

This method is more complicated. To understand how to fold panties, you will have to practice a little. This method is great for folding boxers or briefs. The sequence of actions is as follows:

▪ First lay out the product. 2. Fold the sides of the panties towards the center.

▪ Fold the bottom side (crotch) to the middle. 4. Place two thumbs inside the elastic band and with a simple movement turn the underwear inside out.

As a result, you will receive a neatly folded square with an inner pocket.

Roll

Washed items folded this way will stay fresh longer until you unwrap them. How to fold panties this way: 1. Place the product on a flat surface with the right side up.

▪ Twist the elastic three times inward, away from you, making thin layers. 3. Turn the panties over so that the back side is on top.

▪ Fold both sides towards the center so that the halves intersect. 5. Fold the crotch section upward so that it forms a straight line with the upper element.

▪ Turn the resulting roll inside out three times - you're done.
