Choosing frost-resistant linoleum for a summer residence: commercial or household options

Flooring manufacturers produce many types of linoleum for consumers. If the buyer needs coating in unusual living conditions, for example: summer cottages, then a material specifically designed for such conditions is suitable - frost-resistant linoleum. The new linoleum is designed for outdoor use and has an original surface pattern that can compete with tiles or ceramics.

Floor with an original pattern in the living room

In a room with low temperatures, it is better to lay frost-resistant linoleum on the floor. When choosing, pay attention to which areas require installation of the coating.

The best brands

The most popular are two manufacturers of linoleum that can be laid in the cold: Tarkett and Sinteros. They differ from competitors by excellent combinations of price and quality.

Tarkett

A transcontinental company that produces a large range of floor coverings. You can find products from this company in any corner of the world. Tarkett products have the following positive aspects:

  • wide selection of all types of linoleum;
  • high durability even for budget linoleum models;
  • (partially) environmentally friendly components are used;
  • large selection of colors and collections (more than 50 items);
  • average service life – 15-25 years;
  • safe for humans and can be used in children's and medical institutions;
  • adequate cost.

The disadvantages include a slight chemical smell from freshly laid linoleum, which quickly disappears. Another disadvantage is the need to fix some models of this flooring using specialized glue. Despite the minor disadvantages, Tarkett is the undisputed leader in the flooring materials market.

Sinteros

A Russian brand (a subsidiary of Tarkett), which produces linoleum using modern German equipment, which guarantees high quality and safety that meet strict European standards. It is the presence of these components that makes Sinteros truly popular. The advantages include:

  • low cost;
  • a wide range of;
  • the ability to choose the right model for any interior.

The disadvantages include installation features - this brand does not forgive unevenness and debris, so the surface on which linoleum is laid must be perfectly smooth and carefully prepared. You can use special substrates.

How to prepare the floor, how to store linoleum rolls, what tools are needed, all this, and other rules. The knowledge of how to lay linoleum, and in what conditions to work, was clearly transferred from an experienced builder, we sincerely hope that you use it in your personal experience.

When laying linoleum, you must adhere to the basic rules in work, and also take into account all the characteristics of this material, and only then the floor covering will become ideal.

Why do you need a special coating?

Due to the fact that elastic linoleum is capable of changing sizes under the influence of strong temperature changes, after several frosty winters even the highest quality option will become unusable. It cracks and deforms even on a perfectly flat base.

But modern technologies have made it possible to develop such PVC linoleum for the street that will easily survive 10-15 years. It is also used on balconies, cottages that are not heated, for verandas and rooms in which there is sub-zero temperature. For installation, special frost-resistant glue is used.

Characteristics

Frost-resistant linoleum - mainly for street or commercial use. Different brands share common advantages:

The double base is created on the basis of foamed PVC with an additional polyester layer. This gives elasticity and improves thermal insulation qualities. To increase mechanical strength, a special cellular fiberglass is used. Plasticizers retain the properties of linoleum outdoors during frosts. Such coatings are moisture resistant. This means the risk of freezing is reduced. The average thickness of the canvas is up to 4 mm. Frost-resistant and moisture-resistant linoleum - most often insulated and anti-slip. Some brands are used in outdoor floor heating systems

But pay attention to the compatibility of your specific model. Yutex, Komitex, Ideal and IVC also offer their options. An additional and thickened protective layer increases mechanical strength and wear resistance.

Scope of application

For personal plots, frost-resistant linoleum is one of the cheapest and most practical coatings. It competes with expensive and difficult to install paving slabs.

For balconies, resistance to moisture, ultraviolet radiation and good insulating qualities are important. Linoleum prevents the development of fungus and mold even on an unglazed balcony where clothes are dried.

At the dacha, such linoleum prevents the accumulation of condensation on the base

This is important in rooms that are heated when needed rather than regularly. Walking on this floor is comfortable and cozy

And the variety of design solutions allows us not to forget about the beauty of the interior.

Features of laying felt linoleum

Pile coverings require special attention. It is worth noting that selecting linoleum is not an easy task, because it will be used for a long time. Linoleum has a structure consisting of two cavities: they will determine the properties of linoleum and its performance characteristics.

About felt linoleum

Felt linoleum will be appreciated by people who prefer convenience, coziness and warmth. It has elasticity, softness, and is easy to lay.

However, only a dry room is suitable for using such material, otherwise moisture will destroy the coating from the inside and make it unfit for use. But if the floor covering is subject to heavy loads, most likely, a covering with a fleecy surface will not be able to withstand it. Thus, before purchasing linoleum, you need to take into account all the features of the room in which you plan to install it.

It is better not to use felt linoleum in high-traffic areas

Laying linoleum will not be a problem if you approach this task responsibly and take into account the recommendations of specialists.

Difficulties of care

Improving the production of linoleum has made it possible to launch the production of models that not only repeat the decorative pattern (texture) of the natural material, but also almost perfectly imitate its texture - recreating relief fibers and other three-dimensional components. Initially, from an aesthetic and tactile-visual point of view, this seems quite justified. However, not all housewives begin to adhere to this opinion over time. After all, they have to remove dust and dirt that has clogged up in the miniature grooves. This drawback is especially noticeable on dark linoleum.

It is impossible not to mention another problem that owners of linoleum face - stripes and marks left by shoes with black soles. Often such marks are quite difficult to remove. Also, we should not forget that PVC floor coverings are not resistant to solvents, aggressive alkaline substances and fats.

User comments:

“It’s not very convenient to wash a floor with embossed linoleum, especially if the pattern is directed across the movement of the rag or brush.”

“My linoleum is so textured that a rag clings to it, and after washing, lint remains.”

Range

Rubber linoleum with colored chips for gyms and playgrounds
Modern rubber linoleum Relin, the price of which is slightly higher than that of ordinary commercial linoleum, is offered by both European and domestic manufacturers. Slovakia trend, Tarkett, Boguma s.ro and some other companies offer customers S8 rubber linoleum with a width of 1230 mm and a thickness of 4 mm, wound in rolls 10 m long.

Prices range from 1000 to 2500 rubles. per m2, at the ruble exchange rate of 1$ = 64 rubles. The main influence on the cost is the brand, design and thickness of the linoleum covering.

Having spent quite a significant amount of money on the purchase of rubber linoleum, the consumer receives a safe-to-use material from a combination of natural and synthetic rubber with high strength, wear resistance and hygiene, not subject to rotting and rapid aging.

Semi-commercial options

Relin is resistant to low temperatures. Made from rubber material. Thanks to this, it is elastic when frozen, so it will not crack.

Fiberglass is the main component of household linoleum with a homogeneous structure. The peculiarity of this type of flooring is its multi-layer nature, while the structure of semi-commercial types is single-layer. Manufacturers offer two types of single-layer structure: homogeneous and heterogeneous.

This type of coating is not as widely represented on the market as consumers would like. One of the most common is Tarkett Idyll frost-resistant linoleum. Such coatings have a noble color, like that of tree species. This emphasizes the interior of the room and decorates it.

Frost-resistant linoleum for the dacha

In order not to make a mistake when choosing a cover for your dacha, you need to determine what qualities it should have. The product should not be afraid of moisture, withstand freezing and thawing, so as not to lose its properties and appearance. It must be combined with anti-icing systems. Natural linoleum is suitable for summer cottages.

For covering the floor in a country house, a frost-resistant one would be a suitable option. Because it will withstand sub-zero temperatures, condensation and mechanical impact - impacts from shoes. Another important quality of linoleum frost-resistant coatings is the ability to be laid on any rough base. It looks no different from normal, but is warm to the touch.

Laying linoleum on the floor

Studying reviews

Frost-resistant linoleum can be laid on any type of base.
It just so happened that during the construction of the dacha, the work was delayed, as they say, until white flies and the floor covering had to be laid after the first frost. To speed up the work, we decided to buy linoleum, but upon learning that we would be laying it right now, the seller strongly recommended buying frost-resistant one. When the linoleum was brought to the builders, the master refused to lay it for a long time, arguing that it would only ruin the material. They gave the go-ahead at your own risk. The builders slowly unrolled the roll and left it to rest. Surprisingly, the linoleum did not crack and took the correct shape, maintaining the necessary elasticity. In general, the installation was completed successfully, the floors were smooth and beautiful. Two years have passed, the house is heated only periodically, and the linoleum has retained its attractiveness.

When we decided to make a glazed balcony, the question of floor covering naturally arose. We were advised to use frost-resistant linoleum. And you can walk in winter, and it’s not afraid of moisture. They laid it on a concrete screed without glue and pressed it with baseboards. It withstood the winter excellently, but apparently the baseboards were installed too tightly and in the summer the linoleum began to ripple. When the baseboard was unscrewed, everything fell into place. I liked the fact that sometimes I jump out onto the balcony to smoke in my socks, the floors don’t seem cold. Overall we are pleased with the coverage.

When choosing a floor for an apartment on the first floor, it took a long time to come to a consensus. Wooden parquet is very expensive, laminate is cold. The master recommended linoleum, but only frost-resistant. At first we were surprised why there was frost-resistant linoleum in the apartment, and the price was slightly higher than usual. We agreed that the master would give a guarantee and, if anything happened, would redo it at his own expense. When we arrived to take over the work, at first it seemed that the builders had laid laminate flooring. The appearance is absolutely no different, only the floors are warm to the touch. The only thing is that after the room stood closed for almost a month, there was a slight chemical smell.

Where can I make a bed?

Before deciding which frost-resistant linoleum to choose for a particular room, you should decide which type of flooring is needed. The existing classification of finishing materials for floors suggests several options:

  • Household
    is the most common and inexpensive type of linoleum. It has relatively low characteristics in terms of resistance to natural wear and physical impacts. It is used in residential buildings to cover terraces, balconies, loggias without heating. This is a good outdoor option for a summer residence.
  • Commercial
    type flooring can last up to 25 years. Excellent resistance to physical impact and abrasion resistance.

Industrial linoleum is used in enterprises and is characterized by increased strength and resistance to chemicals and other aggressive compounds.

In the cold, this material does not “tan” and does not become brittle. This allows it to be used even in open spaces, such as unglazed loggias and open terraces.

How to choose the right floor?

Buying frost-resistant linoleum is a responsible undertaking.

To avoid disappointment in your purchase, you must follow these tips:

  • Decide on the dimensions ; you should not take linoleum that is too small or large, as this will greatly complicate installation.
  • Decide on the type and type of linoleum . Here you should compare your financial capabilities, as well as the characteristics that the floor covering should have. For example, if you need a reliable coating that will last for decades, is resistant to fading and aggressive environmental influences, then it is better to purchase a commercial option.
  • Give preference to trusted manufacturers who provide a mandatory guarantee for their materials.

It should also be taken into account that certain types of linoleum are supposed to be laid for indoor cold rooms, and others for outdoors.

For open spaces where ice may form, it is better to purchase floor coverings that have an anti-slip function.

Advantages and disadvantages

Frost-resistant linoleum is rightfully considered the best coating for temperatures below zero degrees. In addition, it has advantages over other floor coverings, including:

  • Ease of installation
    . In order to lay linoleum you do not need special skills or sophisticated equipment.
  • Moisture resistance
    . The material does not allow water to pass through and can easily withstand high indoor humidity without losing its properties.
  • Easy to care for
    . Unlike parquet and laminate, it does not require the use of special care products. It is enough to wash the coating as needed with warm soapy water (with the addition of any universal product).

  • Resistance to aggressive substances.
    Acids are not capable of damaging the coating, so linoleum is often used in production and in rooms that undergo frequent disinfection.
  • High heat and sound insulation.
    This is achieved thanks to the multilayer structure of the coating.
  • A large assortment
    and variety of colors makes it easy to choose the necessary flooring for any interior.

The disadvantages of linoleum include the fact that if furniture or large household appliances are moved carelessly, very noticeable scratches or dents may remain on the coating. However, if you are careful when rearranging , these negative consequences can be easily avoided

.

Modern brands of linoleum do not emit harmful impurities that can affect human health and well-being, so they can even be used in children's rooms. Thanks to its moisture resistance, the material can withstand daily wet cleaning, which means that with this flooring it is easy to maintain hygienic cleanliness in your home.

Which to choose?

Many buildings located on land plots are used only during the winter season of the year.

A frost-resistant coating for a summer house or gazebo can be an excellent competitor to popular ceramic tiles. Such a product is not afraid of water and can withstand many cycles of freezing and thawing without compromising the quality of its properties or losing its aesthetic appearance.

Frost-resistant coating is also good for an open balcony. In this space, there are fewer requirements for exposure to low temperatures, but there are often stagnant areas and the possibility of fungal growth. There are often temperature fluctuations on the balcony, and there is a problem with excess moisture. Therefore, the use of such a coating ensures good water resistance of the floor.

Such linoleum is perfect for a glazed loggia without heating, where the impact of frost is much less, but the requirements for the tightness of the space increase. The coating will not allow moisture to pass through to the concrete base, thereby preventing the development of fungus - after all, on loggias and balconies, housewives most often dry washed clothes and the appearance of puddles of water on the floor simply cannot be avoided.

If you want to choose a frost-resistant material for your dacha, then you should know that this is a coating that is perfect for rooms where heating is used only from time to time. This product is not afraid of frost, condensation that constantly appears during frequent heating, or the mechanical impact of high-heeled shoes.

If you need to finish the vestibule of a cottage, terrace or veranda at the dacha, or porch, then it is better to choose a single-layer material or its rubber version. The homogeneous product is perfect for enclosed spaces, and relin can be used outdoors. Do not forget that for a material that has one layer, a flat floor is required. If there are uneven places on the floor, they must be removed. Rubber products do not have these restrictions; any floor will do.

Relin is used much more often in public places and in industrial buildings. They are usually used to cover floors in warehouses and similar spaces where temperature fluctuations are common. Using this product you can insulate the floor in the garage or in the open area in front of the house. It is also used to create high-quality coverage for various kinds of sports facilities.

If you believe the reviews, then such linoleum can be easily laid in cold rooms during the cold season without fear of damage.

Even in the coldest conditions, such linoleum does not crack and takes the correct shape, maintaining the necessary elasticity. If necessary, the material is combined with an anti-icing system.

The Tarkett company produces one of the most popular types of frost-resistant linoleum under the Idilia Nowa brand. This product is resistant to moisture and ultraviolet radiation and has anti-slip elements.

You can learn about the features of Tarkett Idilia Nowa linoleum from the video.

Linoleum is one of the most common and inexpensive floor coverings. It is used not only in apartments, but also in public places, offices and production. Frost-resistant linoleum is used for finishing rooms with low temperatures. It is characterized by increased strength and also does not “harden”, while ordinary linoleum can crack and break even at -10 degrees.

Ideal storage conditions for linoleum

The room must be dry, and heating devices should not be closer than one meter to the rolls.

As already mentioned, rolls should be stored in an upright position. It is allowed to store horizontally for no more than ten days. Also, rolls should not be bent. There should be no sources of heat, moisture, steam or gases near the linoleum. As well as a variety of reducing agents and solvents.

Storage in the open sun leads to severe fading of linoleum. Storing it in a damp room will eventually lead to deterioration of the floor covering and the formation of mold on it.

If you follow all the rules, you can be sure that your linoleum will be stored for a very long time.

The issue of proper storage of linoleum has always bothered its owners. Often the quality of the entire complex of repair work performed depended on this. And if you don’t make glaring mistakes, then there shouldn’t be any problems here, and the source material will serve as an excellent coating for the floor surface.

Laying linoleum flooring in a country house

Before installing linoleum coverings, it is necessary that the floor has a smooth and clean surface. This is important to observe, because unaesthetic bumps are formed. In addition, over time, cracks and worn areas will form.

To lay linoleum in summer cottages, you need a plinth of a suitable color. Plastic products harmonize well. Utilities are hidden in the floor plinth - cable for TV or Internet connection.

You can lay the linoleum chosen for your dacha yourself. If the old one is in good condition, then it is cleaned of dirt and dust and a new one is installed on top. Due to this, the floor will become warmer. As an alternative, linoleum is laid on the floor with an insulated wooden base.

The best household linoleums

When discussing which linoleum is best for an apartment, property owners in 95% of cases choose inexpensive collections. This is the main advantage of the flooring, which belongs to class 21-23. The manufacturer saves on the thickness of the base and protective layers. With intensive use this is critical, but in living rooms it does not matter much. Household linoleum occupies a major place in manufacturers' catalogs. We reviewed 12 popular collections and recommend 3 series, which are characterized by increased service life and good technical characteristics.

Polystyl Lux Walton 5

Class 22 coating can be used in any room of the house. The universal design also contributes to this: bleached oak creates an atmosphere of comfort, visually expands the space, and gives the interior an aristocratic feel. The foam base is highly moisture resistant, which allows you to lay the material on the balcony or in the kitchen.

The total thickness is 3.4 mm, which has a positive effect on the sound insulation characteristics of the material. Impact noise is reduced by 18 dB, which is significantly higher than that of competitors in its class. The manufacturer allows the use of linoleum for heated floors if the temperature of the heating elements does not exceed 27 degrees. The thickness of the working layer is 0.2 mm, while the coating does not have an additional varnish layer, which is typical for household linoleum. Despite this, the collection has low abrasion rates and minimal water absorption.

Advantages:

  • Good chemical resistance;
  • Environmentally friendly material;
  • Antistatic;
  • Light roll weight;
  • Low price.

Flaws:

Characteristic smell in the first days after installation.

Ideal Ultra Lear 7383

The Belgian company Ideal produces household reinforced linoleum, which has increased wear resistance. The collection can be used in the hallway, kitchen or children's room. The print is a wide board of an aristocratic gray shade. This is a universal solution, which is chosen for Scandinavian or classic style interiors. It has a high class of 23, which will allow it to serve in domestic conditions for at least 15 years.

For the collection, the manufacturer chose a duplicate base made of PVC and polyester. The total thickness of 4.8 mm has a positive effect on reducing impact noise and improving the thermal performance of the floor. The decorative film is protected from scratches and abrasive wear by a layer based on acrylic copolymers, 0.4 mm thick.

Advantages:

  • Embossed surface;
  • Easy installation with glue;
  • Low base requirements;
  • The width of the rolls is from 2.5 to 4 meters.

Flaws:

Heavy weight.

Praktika Otto-2

The collection is designed for living rooms. The classic design of parquet blocks laid in staggered patterns was chosen for the covering. The decorative film imitates the texture of oak, and the structured surface enhances the resemblance to natural material. The foam base has good moisture resistance, and the total thickness of 2.5 mm provides good sound insulation characteristics.

The working layer has a small thickness, but has good resistance to chemicals. The coating does not require complex care; wet cleaning is sufficient. The absence of an additional layer of varnish requires careful handling: it is not recommended to use office chairs, the rollers of which can leave scratches. The manufacturer recommends laying in one direction and using PVC glue for fixation.

Advantages:

  • Low price;
  • Light weight;
  • Roll width from 1.5 to 4 meters;
  • Balanced technical characteristics.

Flaws:

Service life is 7 years.

Choosing linoleum for a summer house: what to look for?

Linoleum for a dacha is suitable for both the street and the floor. This coating is glued to the base using adhesive that is resistant to negative temperatures.

Frost-resistant linoleum Features of frost-resistant linoleum, its properties, application, installation

Linoleum for the street Choosing linoleum for the street, coating characteristics, scope and structure

Finishing the floor with linoleum is known as a simple way to cover the floor in a country house. There is a classification of linoleum materials, which distributes it according to types of residential premises according to European standards. In the flooring market, the following figures are understood:

  • 2 – for residential premises;
  • 3 – for offices;
  • 4 – production finishing options.

Linoleum for a dacha requires frost-resistant, made from jute fabric at the base, impregnated with wood flour, resin, flax oil and natural pigment substances. To increase the frost resistance of linoleum, plasticizers are added. Products made from such material will last a long time, but this depends on the load on them.

Laying on the floor

When laying a frost-resistant coating on the floor, it is usually rolled out or immediately glued to the base with a special glue with frost-resistant properties, and this is often done with your own hands, without the help of specialists.

To lay linoleum with high quality, first prepare the base for this material. It is best to cover a concrete base with a layer of special plywood that has moisture-resistant properties. It will play the role of an insulating base for linoleum. If a heated floor is installed, then a special screed with electrical elements is applied to the base.

For high-quality thermal insulation of floors on which you want to lay linoleum, you can use penoplex - an excellent new generation material with high heat-saving characteristics. This environmentally friendly material is not subject to rotting, it is convenient to work with it in all kinds of climatic conditions without protection from various precipitation.

Many people are wondering, is it possible to lay linoleum on a wooden surface? This is especially worrying for owners of wooden dachas, which are rarely heated. In fact, there is no fundamental difference what the surface on which you want to put frost-resistant material will be made of. The main requirement that must be strictly observed is a flat floor surface.

The material is rolled out on the floor, left in the room or on the balcony in such an unfolded form that it “acclimatizes” for about a day. During this time, the product gains temperature. The installation of the product is completed with the installation of soft skirting boards.

Sealing problem

The simplicity of laying linoleum sometimes plays a cruel joke on amateur repairmen. The motley pattern of the coating perfectly hides the shortcomings made during installation of the material, namely poor-quality joining of sheets and the presence of seams. Unfortunately, over time, dust gets into the joints, the coating begins to delaminate from the seams, shoes and furniture legs get caught in these places, and air, moisture and dirt can penetrate there. Unfortunately, even professional laying of linoleum on a prepared surface using high-quality and expensive glue does not completely eliminate the threat of peeling at the seams. You can, of course, use special protective (joining) strips, but in this case the visual integrity of the floor will suffer.

User comments:

“In the middle of a large room, two sheets of linoleum have separated, and now there is a gap of approximately 5-7 cm between them. It is impossible to cover it with a carpet. You can’t leave it like this – the screed has already started to crumble a little.”

“...I think that thresholds and protective strips on linoleum look ugly...”

Structure of frost-resistant linoleum

If you buy standard household linoleum for the street, then regardless of the strength of the material, after 2-3 even not the most severe winters, cracks will appear in the canvas. Even proper installation and a level base will not help at subzero temperatures.

Manufacturing of coating

Therefore, manufacturers decided to meet consumers halfway and expand the scope of their product. The special technology for manufacturing PVC coatings allows them to be used successfully at sub-zero temperatures for about 10-15 years. One of the most famous manufacturers, Tarkett, offers products with this structure.

  • The base consists of two parts. The first part is foamed polyvinyl chloride, and the second is polyester. This combination gives the material elasticity and increased thermal insulation qualities.
  • Cellular fiberglass increases the strength of the coating.
  • The plasticizer acts as an additive that adds elasticity at low temperatures.
  • Protective layer.
  • Additional layer of protection based on aluminum oxide crystals. This high-strength additive increases wear resistance up to 7 times.

This structure gives the special flooring the following advantages:

  • water resistance;
  • immunity to sunlight;
  • high technical characteristics with small thickness;
  • the ability to combine with heating and defrosting systems;
  • non-slip surface even during glaciations.

Therefore, if you need to lay linoleum covering on a veranda or gazebo, then it is definitely recommended to look for the word “frost-resistant” in the product labeling, otherwise the flooring will quickly fail.

The best semi-commercial linoleum

For office, service and public premises with average intensity of use, semi-commercial linoleum of 31, 32, 33 or 34 classes is suitable. It has an increased thickness of the protective layer, better withstands the pressure of heavy furniture and retains its original appearance longer.

Selection of linoleum for summer cottages

Ordinary household linoleum is suitable for country houses. The traffic in such houses is low, so the materials for covering are selected inexpensively.

Linoleum comes in the following types:

  • domestic;
  • commercial;
  • semi-commercial.

For country premises, it is advisable to install commercial linoleum, since it is resistant to abrasion and is additionally protected from mechanical stress.

You should pay attention to the linoleum coating itself: whether it has a varnish surface or not. To make it easier to care for this product, it is better to choose a varnished smooth surface. An antibacterial additional layer is required.

Linoleum with varnish surface

Before purchasing linoleum, first measure the room where you plan to install the covering.

The standard width of rolled materials can be: 2, 5, 3.5 and 4 m. You should choose a coating without internal seams. In this case, it is easier to install a linoleum surface.

Color matters. Considering the interior of the house, shades in natural tones will be suitable.

Kinds

There are several types of frost-resistant linoleum on sale. It happens:

  • homogeneous;
  • heterogeneous;
  • rubber (relin).

Homogeneous

A single-layer material that has a homogeneous structure, which greatly facilitates its installation. Also, thanks to this property, this type of flooring has a long service life, since a worn surface will not look untidy. It withstands loads perfectly and does not deform even when exposed to significant weight.

This linoleum is not afraid of not only low temperatures, but also high temperatures, and also behaves well under temperature changes and is fire resistant. Thus, it is an ideal material for difficult weather conditions.

Homogeneous linoleum is made from polyvinyl chloride with the addition of chalk, dolomite, quartz sand and special plasticizers. The color of the material is given by dyes that are applied over its entire thickness.

Heterogeneous

This type is a product consisting of several layers, the bottom of which is made of foamed PVC. It gives the material increased elasticity. Next is fiberglass, which protects the polyvinyl chloride layer from damage. A decorative composition is applied to it; the appearance and pattern of linoleum depends on it. At the end, the material is covered with protection (sometimes polyurethane is used).

Relin

It also consists of several layers, the bottom of which is made from recycled rubber. This base is resistant to the external environment and aggressive chemicals. Next, a decorative layer is applied, depending on the model and purpose of the floor covering.

Modern frost-resistant types of linoleum are distinguished by a variety of models and color palettes, so choosing an option that suits the interior will not be difficult.

Types of insulation

In addition to the top layer, linoleum also differs in the type of insulation used in the manufacture of this floor covering. Various materials can be used for thermal insulation.

Insulated types of linoleum are produced with different parameters. The dimensions in this case are not only set by the wishes of the manufacturer, but also depend on the type of substrate. Each manufacturer produces any type of linoleum with a minimum width of 1.5 meters. Next, the width continues to increase by 50 cm.

The width of the foam-based material is 5 meters. Such parameters are in great demand, as they are convenient for installation in apartments with a standard layout. In this case, there is usually no need to resort to joining or gluing the canvases.

Felt material is manufactured with a maximum width of 3 meters.

Insulated linoleum can be felt, foam-based, jute

The natural covering with a jute backing is quite brittle, so it will have a width of no more than 2.5 meters.

The maximum roll length can be 60 meters, but usually their length does not exceed 15-45 meters. Due to its fragility, natural canvas cannot be longer than 6 meters.

To select the parameters of insulated linoleum for your home, you need to measure the perimeter of the room. Due to the fact that when building a house and renovating, the parameters of a regular rectangle are very often violated, it is necessary to take careful measurements of all four sides.

You need to add another 5 cm to the resulting length and width. This way you can get a canvas size that is suitable for the floor in a given room.

Since the width of the linoleum is predetermined and there is no point in cutting it, you need to choose the optimal size. For example, if a room of 3 * 3.9 m requires a canvas with parameters of 3.05 * 3.95 m, this canvas will have to be cut to a minimum. This way some of the money will be saved.
