How to clean Timberlands at home: how to care for and how to restore Timberlands

Comfort, warmth, beautiful appearance - these are the parameters that you want to get from winter shoes. Timberland boots embody all of the above criteria. Proper cleaning will preserve their external parameters for more than one season. How should you remove dirt so as not to spoil your branded product?

Characteristics of "Timberland"

Timbs are boots that the manufacturer makes from nubuck, oil nubuck, and genuine leather. Yellow boots have a special feature - a round toe. The founder of the company is Nathan Schwartz, a native of Ukraine. The company appeared in the twentieth century. The brand has gained popularity around the world. The company produces shoes for all social groups of the population.

The classic version of Timberlands are yellow shoes with a brownish tint. The sole is thick, but bends a little when walking. Timberland boots come with laces. The advantages of boots are:

  • modern stylish design;
  • Comfortable for constant wearing. Practicality is achieved due to the seamless sole that the company was able to develop;
  • light weight, which does not make walking difficult;
  • preservation of warmth due to specially designed insoles and internal natural fur;
  • water-repellent effect of the outer surface of the shoe. Even in rainy weather your feet will remain dry;
  • comfortable round toe.

Daily care

You need to constantly care for nubuck shoes, and in this they are not much different from other leather products. Any housewife knows that the better you take care of your leather, the longer it will last.

To maintain the quality of nubuck shoes at a high level, in addition to impregnation you will need:

  • shampoo for removing dirt at home;
  • special eraser (or stationery eraser);
  • care brush;
  • shoe deodorant;
  • paint to restore the color of nubuck.

It is especially important to care for nubuck shoes in winter and autumn, when they are exposed to moisture, dirt, and various chemicals that are sprinkled on the roads. Treatment should begin after complete drying.

It is better to dry boots or shoes made from natural materials naturally to avoid drying out. If your shoes are very wet, you can stuff them tightly with old newspapers.

The dirty sole is wiped with a damp cloth, and the surface of the shoe is cleaned with a special brush, shaking off dirt particles. If the dirt turns out to be persistent, you need to rub it with a special nubuck eraser (you can try using a stationery eraser). When the boots are cleaned, they should be treated with impregnation and dried.

A can of special paint can help refresh the color or disguise particularly stubborn stains. It can only be applied to dry, clean shoes. After drying, the fibers of the material need to be combed with a brush. There are also products that combine coloring and protective components. Both the impregnation agent and the paint should be applied several hours before the shoes are worn, for example in the evening.

Shoe shampoo will help remove traces of salt and other chemicals used on roads. If the boots are very dirty with mud, it is also better to use shampoo. Special deodorants help cope with unpleasant odors from shoes and provide disinfection.

The video below will clearly demonstrate how to properly care for nubuck shoes.

Precautionary measures

To properly care for nubuck shoes, you need:

  1. Do not wash with water.
  2. Do not dry near heat sources.
  3. Clean and treat only dry shoes.
  4. Do not wear shoes during rain and wet snow, avoid puddles.

Preparing to Clean Timberlands

Before cleaning the timbs, they must be prepared in order to obtain a high-quality result. First, you need to dry the shoes. The next thing to do is put spacers inside to prevent them from becoming deformed. If the shoes become deformed, it will be impossible to restore their original appearance. Complete the preparatory stage by cleaning off any stuck-on particles of dirt, pet lint, or a regular shoe brush. Clean the soles with an old toothbrush. If there are pebbles stuck in it, remove them carefully so as not to damage the product.

Do not confuse the sequence of preparation stages. If you start cleaning wet shoes from dirt, you will only rub the dirt in, making them even more dirty.

Cleaning and caring for nubuck and tan timberlands

The company produces a large number of Timberland models. Their cleaning directly depends on the material from which they are made. Boots can be made of nubuck, oil nubuck, leather. Cleaning Timberlands at home is not difficult if you know how to clean them properly.

Nubuck is a material that is very similar in appearance to suede, but it is very durable and covered with a lot of fibers. The main advantage of nubuck is its water-repellent effect. The basic rules for caring and cleaning nubuck and tan timberlands include:

  1. Before going out, treat with moisture repellents. Spraying with moisture-protective substances will keep your shoes in their original condition longer.
  2. Use only special cleaning foams and stain removal sprays. Nubuck is a rather delicate material, so it is not recommended to use conventional cleaning methods.
  3. To remove dirt and stains, use a rubberized brush. Swipe over contaminated areas without pressing, so as not to erase the fluffy protective layer.
  4. If small stains appear on your shoes, use a special eraser to clean them. Where there are stains, run the eraser over them until the dirt is completely removed.
  5. Timberlands should not be washed under running water, much less soaked in soap solutions. If you wash them completely, you can immediately say goodbye to branded shoes.

There's no need to rush

If you just bought your dream boots and paid a decent amount for them, then you have a great desire to immediately treat them with everything you have at home, soak them in all the oils and cover them with all the waxes and sprays. So this is not worth doing. New boots should conform to the shape of your foot, and for this to happen, the leather should not be too soft and should not have any extra layer of wax on the surface. Full break-in can take from 50 to 100 hours depending on the type and thickness of the leather. If you start impregnating shoes immediately after purchase, there is a risk that in the end the shoes will expand too much and will be too big for you. This is due to the fact that all oils and conditioners (especially mink oil) make the skin softer and more pliable. After the boots “sit on your feet,” you can begin comprehensive care.

Timberland restoration

Despite carefully wearing branded shoes, unpredictable situations occur, after which it is absolutely necessary to clean your Timberlands. Products are restored in the following cases: long-term wear without timely care, staining with oily substances, food products, machine oil, blood.

  1. If timely care is not observed, it is recommended to restore the shoes using a hard bristle brush, an eraser for nubuck shoes and steam. Recovery process: pour water into a pan, boil it, take the prepared shoe, place it over the boiling water at a distance of thirty centimeters. Steam your shoes for a few minutes. Go over the outer surface with an eraser or brush. Under the influence of steam, the nubuck fibers should soften and return to their previous form.
  2. If oily stains have been placed on your shoes, it is recommended to use an effective, inexpensive Minutka stain remover. Apply the gel-like substance to the contaminated areas and leave until completely dry. Then, use a shoe brush to carefully remove any remaining thickened cream.
  3. The probability of getting a stain from wine, juice, or blood on shoes is the same as on clothes. Regular soapy water (laundry soap base) will help deal with stains. Dissolve a small amount of soap and apply the mixture onto the stains with a soft brush or sponge using massaging movements. Rub the solution until the stains completely disappear, then dampen a soft cloth in clean water, remove any remaining soap and dirt.

Old stains on shoes

Old stains on shoes are a huge problem that is not easy to deal with.

It is possible to get rid of old contaminants only with the help of a solvent.

Important! The method is radical, and the result is unpredictable. Therefore, the most logical thing to do is simply paint over the defect using a special spray.

How to clean Timberlands at home

Most fans of this brand of shoes do not know how to clean Timberlands at home. Dirty snow, water, dust turn luxurious, comfortable boots into indecent "chuni". This happens when the owner does not read the shoe care instructions, wears them carelessly, does not know or is lazy to care for them.

The choice of winter and autumn shoes for most Russians is a matter of paramount importance. Our climatic conditions dictate a number of necessary conditions that such seasonal shoes should have.

Timberlands are boots that meet all the necessary requirements and at the same time are an example of style and elegance. The boots are universal: comfortable last, light weight, thick waterproof sole, nice colors. They are suitable for women, men, teenagers, and can be used for everyday wear, an evening walk, or a picnic.

The classic version is sand-colored boots with laces, a round toe and a thick sole. Every year they are included in the top five best shoes in the world for the fall and winter seasons.

A distinctive feature is the unique technology of connecting the upper and sole without the use of thread seams.

Timberlands, due to their popularity, attract manufacturers who are trying to make analogues of worse quality. Not everyone will be able to distinguish a good fake from a brand, so you need to know the distinctive features of real Timberlands.

Is it possible to restore nubuck?

There is no clear answer to the question. It all depends on the degree of contamination. If the areas are quite small and barely noticeable, then a rubber brush or eraser will come to the rescue. Just rub the areas well and the nubuck will “fluff” again.

, you can resort to the second method. You will need a stiff brush, an eraser and steam. Heat a pan of water and hold the shoe at a distance of thirty centimeters for several minutes. After this, go over it thoroughly first with an eraser, and then with a stiff brush. Under the influence of high temperatures and humidity, the villi will fluff up.

Don't overdo it or use excessive force. Otherwise, you will not restore the timberland coating, but will render the shoes unusable.

Timberlands are stylish, versatile and at the same time “picky” shoes.

It requires systematic, comprehensive care in order to maintain its original appearance and characteristics. But, knowing a few tricks, everyone can cope with this!

Timberlands are practical unisex shoes made from high-quality materials that have not lost their relevance among young people for many years now. Both women and men wear boots, combining them with a wide variety of clothes. But the main trump card of this shoe is that it is made from natural high-quality material - nubuck and oil-nubuck, which means it does not allow your feet to freeze even in the coldest weather. Classic Timberlands are made in light brown, so any owner sooner or later faces the question of how to clean these shoes at home.

What material are Timberlands made of?

Shoes are made from nubuck, oil-nubuck, they are practically no different from each other. Nubuck is made from young calf leather, which is treated in a special way to obtain a soft, fleecy surface. Oil nubuck is additionally impregnated with fatty water-repellent compounds, which is why it appears wet to the touch. Nubuck and oil nubuck should not be confused with suede.

The heel of the boot is made of genuine, soft leather, it tightly holds the ankle.

The laces are made of taslan fibers (innovative nylon fibers with high strength), unlike fakes that use rag lacings. Eyelets (metal holes for laces) are made of brass, which does not rust. They must be hexagonal in shape.

The seams are stitched in 4 rows. All details of the boot are cut out using patterns by hand. The fur for the edge is natural. The technology of gluing the upper to the sole makes the shoes waterproof.

Timberland shoes have a number of distinctive features:

  • Green or beige shoe box.
  • Each shoe is packed in paper.
  • The label on the box is pasted on the corner; orange is used for men's boots, and green is used for women's boots. The text is printed clearly, indicating all the necessary characteristics down to the batch number and product code.
  • The logo tag hangs on the right shoe.
  • The sole is a single material, without layers.
  • The presence of glue on the product is unacceptable.
  • The insoles are removable, orthopedic, and do not allow cold and water to pass through.
  • The logo is burned in with the company's mark, rather than applied as a design.

Cleaning suede

Shoes made of suede, nubuck and reverse leather cannot be cleaned with conventional cleaning products. Special brushes have been developed for mechanical cleaning of suede. One side has copper bristles and synthetic bristles and the other has a crepe finish. First, the side with the metal bristles needs to remove the top layer of dirt, then walk the suede with force with the side with the rubber surface and then lift the pile again with the other side, if necessary. If this doesn't help, there are a couple more alternatives:

▪ A set for dry cleaning of nubuck and suede, which consists of an eraser to remove dirt and a brush to lift the lint. b) Nubuck suede restoration foam cleanser, such as Timberland Renewbuck, which works on the same principle as saddle soap.

Kinds

There are three types: natural, artificial and nubuck-oil (aka oiled). Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages and is used for specific needs of the furniture and footwear industry.

Natural

Cattle leather is tanned with salts mixed with chromium. Then its front side is treated with fine abrasive materials - sand or sandpaper of a minimum fraction. The resulting material has a delicate surface with fine pile. It allows air to pass through perfectly. Its velvety texture has earned it popularity among Italian furniture makers, who use it to upholster their sofas, armchairs and beds.

The pleasant touch sensations and beautiful appearance of nubuck need to be protected and cherished. Natural nubuck is not a wear-resistant upholstery material; it must be periodically treated with antiseptics and special solutions. It is more decorative than practical.

Artificial

This upholstery material represents a completely different direction. It is obtained by alternately spraying polymers on top of each other. The appearance and ease of use of this material depend on the diameter and length of the sprayed fibers.

Since it does not absorb water, it can be used for kitchen chairs, corners and sofas. The living room and dining room, the furniture in which is upholstered with an artificial analogue, is practical and durable. There will be much fewer problems with it than if it is covered with fabric or upholstered with genuine leather.

Oiled

The process of obtaining raw materials from animal skin takes a long time and includes several stages. If during tanning and after it the material is impregnated with a special oil composition, it will acquire moisture-repellent properties. This type of skin looks a little damp and not as velvety as usual. Thanks to treatment with oils and special fats, nubuck oil resists moisture better and is more durable.

Prevention

To maintain the attractive appearance of the product, I regularly clean and treat it with a protective agent. Using nubuck cleaning wipes on an ongoing basis will eliminate the need for degreasers.

Products must be treated with a protective agent at least once every six months. The spray is sprayed over the surface and left until completely dry. The protective composition should be applied only after cleaning the nubuck product. For a better effect, the pile of the material must be lifted with a brush.

Professional products

  • Avoid water when cleaning . It contributes to the fact that the pile is quickly erased, the water-repellent impregnation layer is broken, and stains form on the surface;
  • Use foam . This applies not to mud stains, but to those caused by fallen food or spilled drinks. In such cases, nubuck foam can provide invaluable assistance, but only if it is of high quality. Otherwise, stains will remain on the shoes;
  • Don't neglect impregnation . Even in dry weather, it will not be superfluous to treat your shoes with moisture-proofing agents, because they retain the attractive appearance of the material;
  • Use an eraser . Manufacturers sell a special eraser for nubuck, but if you haven’t purchased one, you can use a regular one;
  • Wash your soles . If you want it to be shiny, then wipe it with soapy water;
  • Watch your shoes . Clean it regularly to remove stains, dust and other contaminants. Always have a brush on hand so that if necessary, you can clean your shoes outside the home, as old stains are more difficult to clean.

Mix everything thoroughly until a thick foam forms, then apply it to the contaminated areas. After the foam has been absorbed (wait 15 minutes), remove traces of dirt with a soft brush.
