Slime is a children's educational toy. The consistency is similar to plasticine, but does not stick to your hands. This toy has one unpleasant feature. If the toy remains on the hygroscopic surface, it will be difficult to remove the slime from clothes. The mass quickly and strongly eats into the fibers of the fabric. But don’t rush to throw away your favorite item; there are several ways to remove contamination.
- 1 Clean the slime from clothes, blankets 1.1 Using improvised means
- 1.2 Household chemicals
Clean slime from clothes and blankets
Regular machine washing will remove traces of slime. Any method must be selected depending on the type of fabric.
Important! Before cleaning, scrape off any remaining substance. You can use a mild knife, a plastic card, even a ruler. Only after this do you begin to remove the ingrained slime into the fibers of the fabric.
Basic methods for removing slime stains at home:
type of fabric | aggressive agents, acetone, gasoline | stain removers, alcohol, peroxide, ammonia |
linen, cotton | possible, given that the fabric does not fade | Can |
fur | acetone | forbidden |
wool, knitwear, viscose | not acceptable | allowed |
chiffon, silk, satin | forbidden | stain removers, mixture with salt, ammonia, peroxide |
Freezing is suitable for all types of fabrics. Exposure to hot temperatures is only possible if the fabric does not fade or dye.
Using improvised means
You can wash slime from clothes using high temperature. The water must be heated to a temperature of 60 degrees or higher. Immerse clothes in it for a quarter of an hour. Rub the stained area. If the slime is not all gone, then repeat the procedure. Only after the residues of the substance have completely disappeared can it be machine washed.
Freezing is suitable for removing slime that has already dried out; the stain is difficult to remove. It is recommended to put the item in the freezer for 2-3 hours, then remove the frozen substance using a sharp object.
If the product is large, then they resort to a local method - placing ice cubes over the contaminated area. At low temperatures, the slime crumbles, so it can be easily removed.
Use acetone to remove slime from fur clothing. To do this, moisten a napkin in acetone and thoroughly soak the stained area on the clothing. You can use nail polish remover without acetone, although it will take longer to remove the stain.
For linen and cotton items, alcohol or vodka is suitable. It is used in the same way as acetone. The use of gasoline is allowed, but provided that the fabric is resistant to such an aggressive agent, for example, jeans.
Delicate fabrics are cleaned with a mixture of:
- 1 glass of water;
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and the same amount of ammonia;
- salt tablespoon;
The mixture is applied to the site of contamination. The method is suitable for woolen products, silk, microfiber and viscose, but only in light colors.
Hydrogen peroxide is suitable for light-colored clothing. It is applied for 5-20 minutes, depending on the age of the stain; the older it is, the longer it lasts. Hydrogen peroxide is suitable for all types of fabrics except silk.
You can wash slime from clothes using vinegar, the main thing is that it is transparent. It is applied for 20 minutes, after which the area of contamination is cleaned. If it doesn’t work the first time, then repeat the procedure. The technique is suitable for things made of polyester and cotton.
