A friend showed me a simple trick on how to remove candle wax from a jar and turn it into a glass plant pot.

If you like to light candles, thus creating a romantic or magical atmosphere in your home, you cannot avoid the problem of paraffin residue on the walls and bottom of the candlestick. How to remove wax from glass so that you can use the glass candle cup again? How to remove wax from a glass table? In this article, we'll take a closer look at four ways to easily remove candle wax from glass.

You can dissolve wax in hot water

The easiest and fastest way to clean a glass cup from wax or paraffin residue is to dissolve it with hot water and rinse off the residue.

Do not pour hot wax into the sink under any circumstances, you risk clogging the plumbing, the wax will harden and block the water drain!

The melting point for wax is 64 degrees, for paraffin - 50 degrees. When heated together with water, paraffin and wax float to the surface.

Before cleaning the candlestick from wax, put a saucepan with a small amount of water on the fire. We lower the glass candlestick to the bottom so that water does not flow inside. Heat the water until it becomes hot tea. Wait for the wax to melt so you can easily remove it with a paper towel. Throw the remaining wax into the trash bin along with the napkin. Wash the cup with hot water and regular dish soap.

You can just use very hot tap water. Place the jar in the sink, blocking the drain. Now pour hot water directly into the jar. The remaining wax should melt and float to the surface. The water should cool down within fifteen minutes. You can easily remove wax floating on the surface.

Use a knife to remove any residue. The wax should be soft and pliable. If you want to get the effect of pure transparent glass, then moisten a dish sponge in hot water, and lightly wring it out, apply it to the walls of the candlestick. A damp paper towel will also work for this purpose.

How to remove wax from dishes using traditional methods

You can clean wax from utensils using improvised means. The choice of method will depend only on the amount of work and the condition of the utensils. Most often, the process requires physical intervention and the use of force, but not all dishes can withstand such impact.

The question of how to clean paraffin from dishes can be easily resolved. Paraffin is similar in its properties to wax, so the listed methods can be applied to both materials:

  1. The first method is not particularly inventive. It will require a plastic spatula and a hair dryer. First you need to pick the wax off the edge of the container and try to remove most of the dirt. Carefully scrape off large pieces. Heat the remaining traces with a hairdryer and remove them in a melted state with a napkin.
  2. Baking soda will also help remove wax stains. First, remove the bulk of the substance with a plastic spatula, and then go over the remaining traces with a sponge and soda. After this, wash the dishes in cold water using detergent.
  3. This method is considered gentle because it is suitable for fragile glass and porcelain utensils. First of all, boil the kettle. Then place the affected area of the dish under a stream of hot steam. After some time, the melted wax will easily come off, and the stain can be easily wiped off with paper napkins or a soft absorbent cloth.
  4. The method is suitable for metal utensils and a thick layer of wax or paraffin. Place the soiled product on the fire and heat until the substance on the walls begins to melt. Then pour vegetable oil into the bowl and mix thoroughly with the melted mass. Remove the resulting mixture with a paper towel and wash the dishes as usual.
  5. The following method can be dangerous, so you need to act with extreme caution. If there are no necessary amenities nearby, any fire source will do: a fire, a burner or a stove. As carefully as possible, lower the product into the fire and melt the wax. Remove with a napkin or soft cloth. Use heat-resistant tongs or gloves, and cookware that is not afraid of fire.
  6. You can get rid of too much paraffin on the walls of dishes by freezing. Place the product in the freezer for 30 minutes. Then we pry the hardened paraffin mass with the tip of a knife or an object with a flat tip. The main thing is to do everything extremely carefully so as not to damage the coating of the dishes. The crust will come off easily from metal or glass products.

Non-metallic utensils can be saved in the same way. Remaining paraffin is removed by heating the container in a microwave oven. After this, the rescued product must be thoroughly wiped with a dry linen cloth.

You can clean dishes from wax and paraffin in various ways, but it is worth remembering that the materials of the products differ from each other. For example, mechanical stress can leave scratches or other unpleasant marks on the surface of metal utensils.

In order to remove wax from dishes, you can resort to proven folk methods for solving this problem. Everything you need can always be found in any home, and removing paraffin from dishes only requires some physical effort. At the same time, there is no fundamental difference in what kind of product the household utensils were damaged: wax, paraffin or stearin. The methods for getting rid of contaminants of this nature are identical.

There are several basic ways to remove stains from dishes using heat. All of them are very popular and effective, and all that remains is to choose the one that is most convenient for you to use.

Use the freezer compartment of your refrigerator

  1. Before placing the candlestick in the freezer, let it cool. This is done because due to a sudden change in temperature, hot glass can easily crack. Take the candlestick in your hand, if you are not hot, you can safely act.
  2. Leave the glass in the freezer for about an hour. When cold, the consistency of the wax becomes denser, its volume decreases in size, and you can easily remove it from the edges and bottom of the candlestick - just shake the glass cup.
  3. Use a kitchen knife to remove any small residue. The glass will become shiny and transparent if you treat its surface with a cotton pad generously moistened with vinegar.

How to remove wax from dishes using household chemicals

Using a variety of household chemicals will also help remove wax from dishes. The most popular options in this case are:

  1. Washing powder. In order to get rid of stains in this way, it is necessary to expose wax stains to heat by placing the soiled item under running hot water (temperature at least 50 ° C) after the substance becomes soft. Next, use a sponge and regular washing powder to remove any remaining substance from the surface of the product.
  2. Liquid for removing dirt from the internal surfaces of ovens and microwave ovens. These products are distinguished by a high alkali content in their composition, so they cope with the task quite easily and quickly. To get the result, you need to apply this product directly to the wax impression and leave everything like that for about 10 minutes. After waiting time, you need to wipe the household item and wash it in the usual way.
  3. "White Spirit". It will help to cope with old and heavy paraffin stains. Apply this product to a clean rag and wipe the stains with it. The procedure should be continued until the contamination is completely removed. After this, the product should be washed thoroughly using your usual detergent.

Use the blade to clean the table

  • A sharp blade or scraper is perfect for these purposes. They can easily remove wax from a flat surface, such as a glass table. If you are afraid that the blade will leave marks on the surface, try using a small plastic knife or a special scraper for working with ceramics. Work carefully to avoid damaging the fragile glass surface.
  • Continue using a dry fleece cloth to remove any wax flakes. Continue working with the knife, removing wax in short strokes, until the entire table is clean. Use glass cleaning spray and paper towels to finish the job.

What you need to remember

  1. Heat treatment will help remove wax. Do not use a hot iron on colored wax or delicate fabrics.
  2. Freezing will help remove the wax. It is better to freeze wool, fur and artificial fabrics. Traces of paraffin are easily removed by pre-freezing.
  3. Hot water will help remove wax. Hot water will clean glass, dishes and metal candlesticks. It is enough to place interior items in hot water. Then treat with alcohol and rub with a soft cloth.

  2. Place the candlesticks at a sufficient distance from one another, upside down. The wax will melt and flow out, and thus you will flood the entire oven with it.
  3. After fifteen minutes the wax will melt. Do not leave the wax inside the oven for too long. It can easily ignite.
  4. Don't forget to open the window while working.
  5. Remove the pan from the oven and place it on a heatproof surface.
  6. Use heat-resistant gloves or an oven mitt to avoid getting burned.
  7. Remove any remaining wax from the sides of the candle holder using paper towels.
  8. If you cannot completely clean the jar of wax, use sunflower oil or soap and water.

Filling with soil

Prepare the soil for planting. Place soil in a large bowl. Using a spoon, spread the soil into clean jars.

Warning

  1. Do not pour the contents of the candle holder into the sink, as this may clog the pipes.
  2. Buy higher quality candles, because cheap candles contain petroleum in addition to wax. Because of this, its removal becomes more labor-intensive.
  3. Glass may crack if exposed to very high or very low temperatures.
  4. Never use a microwave oven to remove wax from glass. Wax fumes will damage the heating element.
  5. Do not wash candle holders with wax residue in the dishwasher. This may damage it as the wax will clog the filter.
  6. Pour two tablespoons of water into the bottom of the jar if you are using long-lasting candles. This will prevent too much wax from sticking to the bottom.

To decide how and with what to wash wax from glass, you need to understand the origin of the wax material. After all, as a rule, several compounds are called “wax”:

  1. Beeswax. This material is of natural origin. Most often used in cosmetology and medicine.
  2. Paraffin. The substance is the result of industrial oil refining. It is used for the production of candles, lubricants for equipment and industrial needs.
  3. Stearin. The material is obtained artificially and is used in various industries, in the production of rubber, soap and decorative candles.

Therefore, before you start removing wax from surfaces, you need to figure out what kind of product you have to deal with. Each type has its own melting point. This means that they need to be removed at different temperature conditions.

It is also worth paying attention to the material of the surface where the wax stain is left. In the case of fragile glass, it is necessary to select gentle products suitable specifically for this surface.

It is very important to start cleaning the wax as soon as possible after it hits the glass. If the stain has already hardened and dried, it will be more difficult to remove.
