Instructions for dry and wet cleaning
First, about the features of leatherette. The main ones are presented in the table below:
Characteristics of eco-leather | Description |
Compound | Cotton and artificial material made from cellulose raw materials. |
Properties | “Breathes”, hypoallergenic, odorless, comfortable to wear in hot or cold weather. |
Cleaning Features | The material is strong, but some care will be required. |
If there are minor stains on eco-leather, you can remove them yourself. The main thing is to follow some simple rules:
- Before cleaning, read the instructions from the clothing manufacturer. The label usually indicates the temperature setting (usually up to 30°C) and hand washing is recommended. Although there are options for products that can be washed in a machine.
- It is better not to wash eco-leather trousers, but to clean them. And, if you wash it, then wash it rarely and separately from other clothes. In this case, the material should not be rubbed or pulled, otherwise it will burst.
- Use protective equipment to care for leatherette.
- If there is no label, eco-leather should be tested by wetting the edge. If after 30 minutes the leatherette does not shrink or wrinkle, then you can begin the washing procedure. Before using detergent, do the same steps.
- To prevent streaks from remaining on leggings, rinse them inside out.
Important! To maintain its shape, dry the jacket on hangers, and dry leatherette pants in an upright position away from heat sources.
What advantages does it have?
In addition to attractive aesthetics, eco-leather has a lot of unconditional advantages, among which the following are worth noting:
- is able to “breathe”, while not allowing moisture to pass through,
- high strength index,
- ability to withstand very low ambient temperatures due to low thermal conductivity,
- high degree of wear resistance. If you properly care for eco-leather in clothing, it can last for many years without losing its structural and aesthetic qualities,
- hypoallergenic – this is an ideal option, especially for allergy sufferers,
- not “afraid” of stretching, tearing and scratches,
- has no foreign odors,
- eco-leather is soft and elastic to the touch,
- presentable appearance, which is almost impossible to distinguish from genuine leather
- complete absence of harmful components and substances that can harm human health,
- insignificant weight category of the finished product, which cannot be said about genuine leather,
- large assortment of shades,
- quite affordable and optimal cost,
- Caring for eco-leather shoes is simple and easy.
Is it possible to wash eco-leather and how should it be done?
If the label indicates that eco-leather items can be washed, then it is better to refuse the automatic option. Try to do everything manually.
Hands
The soaking step is excluded. They start by hanging eco-leather trousers over the bathtub. They are treated with a sponge or soft natural cloth soaked in a soap solution. It is prepared from warm water and a small amount of detergent. There are many options:
- for furniture;
- for cleaning carpets;
- regular powder or liquid.
Advice! Clean only with foam. Allow the foam to work for 15 minutes on the area of contamination. If the stains are already old or ingrained, increase the time to half an hour.
Treat problem areas with a soft bristle brush. Then blot with a towel. Turn inside out and then let dry. Rinse the product with clean water. Do this several times to completely remove the detergent.
In the typewriter
If you wash a dress made of eco-leather, do so only after you have carefully studied the manufacturer’s recommendations. In 95% of cases, automatic washing is contraindicated for such products. You can take your pants or skirt to the dry cleaner or wash it by hand. How to do it? See above.
If you are ready to take a desperate step, that is, wash eco-leather, then you should perform a number of actions:
- Anything that has sharp edges, such as appliqué, should be sewn up or cut off. Otherwise, the item may be irretrievably damaged.
- Place leatherette pants in warm water and let them get wet (we are not talking about soaking).
- Load into drum.
- Set the mode to “delicate”, “manual”, “gentle” washing.
- Turn on the machine.
Disable the spin function.
How to distinguish leather from eco-leather
The difference between leather and eco-leather can only be understood by touch. Eco-leather is quite breathable and pleasant, unlike real leather. When buying things, it is difficult to understand how natural fabric will differ from artificial fabric, but knowing some of the nuances, it is quite possible.
Note! The difference between eco-leather and artificial leather can be understood by its appearance. The inside of the product has a fabric base, and the cuts will be ribbed. Shoes made from real leather have a strong smell, while shoes made from artificial leather have almost no smell.
Furniture or car covers. If you put your palm on the product, it will start to heat up and sweat, this only happens from natural material. For covers, quilted eco-leather is usually purchased. It can be distinguished by the use of linings.

When purchasing bags, you need to carefully inspect the seams and zippers. For natural fabrics, the edges will be clearly visible. When buying clothes, you need to look at the label. Products made from natural fabric will have a leather pattern sewn on. Natural material is more durable than artificial material. Types of eco-leather can be perforated or self-adhesive. The composition may contain polyurethane or polymer. In production it can be pressed or made with foam rubber. There are certain types based on the type of thread used.
Tips for washing different leatherette products
If you need to clean an eco-leather skirt, you can use automatic washing, but only at temperatures up to 30°C in delicate or manual mode using liquid soap or baby shampoo. Dry by hanging on hangers. To avoid smudges, cover the item with a clean cloth.
We do the same with dirty trousers:
- Mix alcohol with water (1:1).
- Apply the composition using a soft rag.
- Wipe the trousers (without pressing).
- At the end of processing, wipe with a dry cloth.
- We hang the pants and dry them in a vertical position in a warm room.
If eco-leather pants can be machine washed, remember that:
