Some housewives wash polyester jackets in the washing machine in the same way as shirts or socks. They simply load the clothes into the drum, set the usual mode and press the button. And then they wonder: how can this be? A warm winter jacket has turned into a cold windbreaker. Probably defective...
To prevent this from happening, you need to wash polyester jackets correctly.
What is polyester, what properties does the fabric made from this material have?
This material means a synthetic fabric, the production of which uses a melt of polyethylene terephthalate and its derivatives.
To improve the aesthetic qualities of the finished fabric, polyester fiber is combined with other types of raw materials: nylon, elastane, cotton, viscose.
Wardrobe items made 100 percent of polyester, as well as mixed materials containing polyester, have the following properties:
- Long service life. Durable material is resistant to strong mechanical stress. It does not wear out and does not lose its original qualities even after numerous washes.
- Color fastness. The material is able to maintain color brightness throughout the entire period of operation. It does not fade when in contact with water and does not fade in the sun.
- Resistance to deformation. Polyester items, especially those containing nylon or elastane fiber, retain their original shape after repeated washing and strong stretching.
- Resistance to the negative effects of aggressive substances, as well as the development of pathogens.
- Low pillability (pellets do not appear on the product).
- Dust and dirt resistance. The fabric retains any type of contaminant on the surface, preventing it from penetrating into the fibers.
- Ease.
- No tendency to absorb unpleasant odors.
- Ability to dry quickly.
- Low creasing. Most wardrobe items do not require ironing.
- Availability. When producing polyester products, manufacturers focus on the average consumer.
- Moisture resistance.
- Easy to care for. If you follow the recommendations for washing items made from this fabric, they will not shrink or fade.
In addition to the positive aspects, clothes made from this fabric also have disadvantages:
- low air circulation in the fibers - due to difficult air exchange in polyester products, it is uncomfortable in hot weather;
- electrification - this fabric has a tendency to accumulate static electricity;
- there is a high risk of skin irritation;
- difficulty of staining;
- fear of high temperatures - when washed in hot water, polyester products shrink.
What laundry detergents can be used?
An important point that should be taken into account even before cleaning the fabric. Many housewives use ordinary washing powder, as well as standard, “habitual” machine washing modes. And they are categorically wrong.
An ordinary substance used for washing will simply ruin the item - the membrane will become clogged with powder granules, stop “breathing”, and lose its positive properties.
Therefore, you need to use specialized substances and wash these clothes on the most “gentle” settings. What substances are most popular:
- DOMAL Sport Fein Fashion. Balm for cleaning sports items, including membrane-based ones. Preserves all the qualities of the material and cleans it as much as possible;
- Nikwax Tech Wash. Impregnates the pores of the material, removing all dirt, and maintains its ability to be waterproof and “breathable”.
- Denkmit Fresh Sensation. The cheapest and quite effective gel. It washes perfectly, but does not have special substances for impregnating the membrane that prolong its “life”;
- Perwoll. A very popular substance. It looks like shampoo, but it has a completely different principle of action.
Important ! You should absolutely not use substances that contain chlorine or any of its derivatives - they are too aggressive for this fabric and will definitely ruin it.
How to machine wash
To properly wash polyester in a machine, you should follow some rules:
- Before putting into the drum, remove all items from your pockets, fasten buttons and zippers.
- For items made of polyethylene, a hand or delicate wash mode is suitable. Some machines have a “sport” program, which is ideal for processing polyester tracksuits. For minor stains, when things just need to be refreshed, use the quick wash mode.
- The spin speed should not exceed 800 rpm, and for items made of thin fabric - no more than 600.
After washing, items should be hung out in the fresh air to dry. Polyester rarely wrinkles, but if you still need to iron it, you should select the “silk” setting on the iron. Clothes should be ironed from the inside out through moistened gauze.
At what temperature should you iron?
Tips for choosing the temperature setting for ironing various fabrics
Drying
After the jacket is glassed and the excess liquid is gone, the item needs to be straightened out, hung on hangers, and left over the bathtub for about another hour. During this time, the remaining water will drain, but the jacket will still be a little damp.
If there is no time to wait, wrap the synthetic product in a large towel and gently wring out the item without twisting it.
You cannot dry the jacket completely, otherwise it will be difficult to iron it later.
The item should be slightly damp before ironing. A polyester down jacket is periodically shaken during the drying process to prevent the filler from rolling up.
Preferred means
It is preferable to use liquid detergents, since demi-season or winter polyester jackets often consist of two or three layers, as well as internal filler.
Based on this, we can say that such a thing will not be easy to rinse, which means that the washing powder should be put aside.
The best option would be to use gels for these purposes, of which there are a great variety in household chemical stores.
When choosing from a huge variety of manufacturers of gley detergents, you need to take the following criteria as a basis:
- the product must be easily and efficiently rinsed;
- do not contain bleach or aggressive components;
- the gel must be intended for washing items made of polyester and the product label must state this;
- it should be easily soluble in water at any temperature, and also contain a conditioner to eliminate electrification.
General recommendations
Before washing polyester, it is important to examine the tag on the item.
Usually the temperature in the automatic machine is set at 40 degrees. However, it happens that the dress is made from polyester with the addition of cotton. In this case, the washing machine will need a higher temperature - 60 degrees. It is also necessary to strictly observe all precautions indicated on the label. Down jackets, jackets and dresses are washed slightly differently, but the basic recommendations are the same. By default, the washing machine has the following modes:
- Delicate wash.
- Spin – maximum 600 rpm.
- Rinse mode with the addition of fabric softener.
Article on the topic: Is it possible to wash a bath mat in a washing machine?
You can wash it without conditioner, but things made of 100% polyester are highly electrified, which creates discomfort when worn. Therefore, after washing it is better to rinse clothes with a special product.
If there is a stain on a polyester dress, it must first be removed using a stain remover or regular salt. If all else fails, try treating the tissue with a 10% borax solution and then lemon juice.
Preparing for washing
First, carefully study the label:
- Is there a picture of an automatic machine? Feel free to use it. The jacket is machine washable.
- Is there a basin and a palm on the label? No machines, wash by hand. We don’t twist it, we don’t rub it, we don’t squeeze it.
- The numbers on these pictograms will tell you at what temperature to process.
- Square - can be pressed in a centrifuge. A crossed out square means automatic spinning is prohibited.
- A square with an inscribed circle can be wrung out and dried in a machine.
- Circle - the manufacturer recommends chemical cleaning.
Did you find out that the jacket is washable? Great.
- Unfasten everything that can be detached: the lining, the hood, the fur trim. It is better to wash small parts by hand or not wash them at all.
- Fasten all zippers, fasteners and buttons.
- Turn the jacket inside out.
This way you will protect the product from possible damage: the buttons will not come off, and the shiny rivets will not be scratched. In addition, some cleaning products sometimes leave light streaks and stains on the fabric. If this happens to your jacket, let the stains remain on the back of the item.
How to remove stains from polyester outerwear
100% polyester fibers do not absorb pollutants. If you spill juice or coffee on your jacket, wipe the stained area with a damp cloth and the fabric will clean.
The only exception is grease stains. You can't do without a stain remover here. But polyester does not tolerate bleaching, so read the label on the bottle carefully. It should indicate for which fabrics the product can be used.
- Is there no such information? Refuse to purchase.
- There is a list of fabrics, but polyester is not mentioned there? Look for a different stain remover.
If you haven’t bought a suitable product, try regular laundry soap:
- Wet the stained area.
- Rub it with laundry soap.
- Leave for 20-30 minutes.
- Wash the soapy fabric with warm water.
Do not rub polyester with a brush under any circumstances - this will leave light spots and “shaggy” appearance on the material.
What to do if you are not sure about the safety of the stain remover
There are situations when a stain needs to be washed off “right now,” but there is only one bottle of stain remover at home, and the label has long since come off.
This simple test will tell you if the cleaner can be used on polyester.
- Moisten a cotton swab with stain remover and wipe the product in an inconspicuous place: on the inside seam, on the hem of the sleeve, on the wrong side of the zipper.
- Wait the time indicated in the instructions, rinse the jacket and dry it.
- Evaluate the result.
We recommend: Is it true that you need to wash your bra every day?
If there is a light stain on the fabric and the dye has transferred to the tampon, the bleach is too aggressive. It cannot be used to clean a jacket.
Choosing a detergent
Washing powder for a jacket or coat is not suitable. It is very difficult to rinse out solid fractions from dense polyester; moreover, they will settle in the insulation and on the lining. You don't want to wear clothes soaked in chemicals, do you?
To wash a polyester jacket, use liquid detergents and gels
Pay attention to the following points:
- The detergent must not contain chlorine or other bleach.
- The gel should dissolve in cool water. Many manufacturers recommend washing polyester jackets at a temperature of 30-40 o, keep this in mind.
And don't forget about the antistatic conditioner! Polyester outerwear is easily electrified. A good air conditioner will solve this problem.
How to wash membrane polyester
Be especially careful when washing membrane polyester!
The powder clogs the “pores”, and outerwear loses its unique properties. Therefore, use only special products designed for membrane materials.
Such things are dried exclusively in a horizontal position. Place membrane products away from direct sunlight and heating devices.
After washing, be sure to treat the jacket with a special impregnation - it is sold in sporting goods stores. This is the only way to preserve all the beneficial properties of the fabric.
What not to do when working with artificial materials
Before you start washing clothes made from this artificial material, it is recommended to find out what you should absolutely not do. If you do not take these recommendations into account, your jacket or down jacket will be hopelessly damaged and will have to be thrown away.
To ensure that your jacket pleases you with its appearance for a long time, follow these tips:
- 1 It is strictly forbidden to boil polyester products.
- 2 When washing, do not set the temperature above 40 °C - this may cause the fabric to unravel at the seams.
- 3 Polyester does not tolerate chemical compounds that are part of bleaches. Therefore, their use is strictly prohibited.
- 4 Do not dry jackets in the open sun. Such clothes should be dried in a place where there is shade and access to fresh air.
You must remember that after finishing washing, it is strictly forbidden to leave things in the drum of the washing machine to dry. To dry a jacket or down jacket, you need to lightly wring it out by hand and then hang it on a hanger in the bathroom. This is necessary so that things dry naturally.
After this, polyester clothes will not have to be ironed.
Following the above recommendations, you can wash any product made of artificial material without damaging the fabric itself.
Why are balls needed and what can replace them?
A good addition to all of the above are balls for washing down jackets. These are sold in hardware stores, usually in quantities of 4 pieces. They are used to ensure that the fluff does not get confused or roll off. Before washing, two balls are placed in the pockets of the down jacket, and two more are simply placed in the drum of the washing machine. Also among the offers you can find magnetic or tourmaline balls. However, these are extremely difficult to find, and their price is higher.
What can you replace the balls with if you can’t find them in stores?
- Tennis balls. Just before washing, check to see if their coating is fading. The dye is not always permanent.
- Massage balls will also be a good replacement for special balls. The main thing is to use rubber, not plastic. The latter can ruin the thing.
- Oddly enough, washed potatoes will do the job. True, there is a risk of leaving stains on dark fabric, so it is best to use young tubers.
Steam mode
If you use a steam generator or an iron that has this mode, then ironing polyester can be even easier. The process itself is very simple and does not require any serious preparation.
Before carrying out such cleaning, the product is hung in a vertical position on hangers, and the device is set to the mode for steaming delicate fabrics.
The process should start from the back, from top to bottom. But the collar is steamed last. Then the shoulders, sleeves, and then the front side of the jacket are processed.
Important ! During steaming, the iron and steam generator should be kept at a distance of 4-5 centimeters from the fabric.
How do you like the article?
What mode should I use to wash in an automatic washing machine?
Most polyester jackets are machine washable. The material does not tolerate high temperatures, so in machine wash mode you should not set it to more than 40 degrees. When fibers are exposed to high temperatures, they become deformed and wrinkles form on the fabric. Unsightly creases after washing cannot be removed either by ironing or steaming.
When adding powder or other cleaning products, it is strictly prohibited to use bleaches. For polyester, bleach is aggressive, so after washing the product will become stained with chemicals and the item will be damaged.
When setting the mode, you need to choose a delicate wash, without a drying mode. Since polyester dries quickly, the spin speed is not set to more than 600 rpm, otherwise the fabric will be deformed. Before loading, the polyester jacket is placed in a washing bag.
Among laundry detergents, preference is given to liquid forms or self-dissolving capsules without the bleaching effect. You can add conditioner - it will help maintain the volume of the product. The color of the product is also taken into account - either a product for black linen or a product for colored linen is selected.
Having set the necessary parameters, the washing process begins. Usually the delicate mode does not last long, especially since the drying mode is canceled in advance.
Winter jacket with insulation
Polyester jackets are combined with various insulation materials.
Most are made from the same polyester, so on some products you can see the mark - 100% polyester.
Different types of insulation made from this material have their own characteristics.
In order not to spoil the product, you should also approach the insulation carefully and look for its name on the tag.
It could be:
- Thinsulate;
- holofiber;
- padding polyester;
- isosoft.
Since Thinsulate is one of the most finicky, you can follow the rules for washing this insulation. The jacket is washed at low speeds without spinning at temperatures up to forty degrees.
When washing, add detergents:
- "Weasel";
- "Villus."
They will help to carefully clean your jacket of dirt. If the information about the insulation is hopelessly lost - the label is cut off, and the tag does not contain the name of the insulation, it is better to use dry cleaning services.
Is it possible and how to wash a down jacket with a membrane?
Membrane impregnation is often used together with polyester; it becomes the basis for it. A product with a membrane can only be washed at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
Otherwise, the top layer will melt, the jacket will be damaged and cannot be restored.
Another limitation when washing jackets with a membrane is the choice of detergent. Manufacturers do not recommend using powder or other cleaning products in crystal form.
If dissolved incompletely, the crystals clog the micropores of the fabric, thereby damaging its structure. It is best to use liquid powders and gels for such washing.
Membrane outerwear is prohibited from ironing. After washing, it is recommended to treat the surface of the jacket with water-repellent impregnation.
Subtleties of washing with a membrane
First, it’s worth understanding how the membrane base of the jacket works. After all, like other types of materials from which modern clothes are made, this one also has its own characteristics.
The membrane is a special mesh that has microscopic pores and holes that prevent water from penetrating under clothing.
If you wash such a product incorrectly, you can simply deprive the clothing of its unique properties. And she has a lot of them:
- The membrane perfectly repels water, therefore it does not get wet at all, and even in the rain the product remains completely dry;
- At the same time, the fabric allows air to pass through - “breathes”, and all internal fumes come out. It is impossible to sweat in these clothes;
- The fabric is not blown away even by the strongest wind;
- It is very fabric and does not use down or any other lining.
Now we know all the basic properties of membrane fabric, and we can touch on the issue of washing it.
What products can be used to wash a down jacket?
The usual detergents used for laundry are not suitable for washing down jackets. They can negatively affect the natural filler, destroying its organic shell. In addition, ordinary powders and gels do not dissolve in water well enough, are difficult to rinse out of bulky clothes and leave marks.
Detergent for washing down products “Profkhim”
This product is produced by ZAO Ecos-1, is inexpensive, and can be found in stores. This is an affordable product that washes outer fabric well and does not spoil the filling of clothes at all. The disadvantages include the small size of the bottle, only 0.2 liters, and a strong chemical smell (it goes away with additional rinsing).
Features of the material
Nowadays, polyester, as a universal material, is used to make both wardrobe items, including outerwear, and, for example, umbrellas. In some cases, it can only be the basis of the fabric with the addition of natural and synthetic fibers.
Many people are interested in whether it is possible to wash such clothes at all or whether only cleaning is allowed. It is worth noting that this material can be washed not only by hand.
It is important to select all parameters correctly. First of all, remember that synthetics cannot be processed at high temperatures.
Also, exposure to aggressive cleaning and bleaching substances is contraindicated for such fabrics. The optimal and safe option would be to choose soft washing powders and gels, as well as a water temperature of no more than 400C.
Separately, it is worth considering wardrobe items made of polyester with a membrane. The whole peculiarity of these products is the presence of a special water-repellent coating, which is more than relevant during snow and rain. We are talking about coats and down jackets with insulation. Such jackets must be washed at a temperature of no more than 300. There is no need to iron them after washing, since the items are impregnated with a special solution for membrane materials.
When considering the current restrictions regarding the processing of polyester clothing, it should be noted that you cannot:
- Boil items and wash them in hot water. Otherwise, the fabric shrinks and also loses its attractive appearance due to damage to the fibers. White items may generally turn noticeably yellow.
- Use bleaches that can destroy polyester fibers. There are ways to get rid of stains without using aggressive components.
- Dry products using heating devices and in direct sunlight.
General washing tips
If the jacket is worn constantly, then it needs to be washed once every month and a half, this is explained by the fact that the easy electrolyzability of the fabric leads to intense attraction of dust particles, and the ability of synthetic fibers to absorb fatty secretions from the skin leads to rapid contamination of the inner surface of the clothing.
Light-colored polyester can be washed with special capsules, dark-colored ones can be washed with detergent for black fabrics, and colored polyester can be washed with “Color” detergent. 100% polyester cannot be washed in hot water or boiled.

How to care for clothes with polyester filling?
Whatever the insulation, it requires special care. How the insulated product is washed, dried and ironed directly determines its thermal insulation properties. If you properly care for warm clothing, strictly following all the manufacturer’s recommendations, you can not only preserve its original qualities, but also extend its service life. Caring for a product with polyester insulation involves following the following recommendations:
- Wash by hand or in a washing machine. If a product is allowed to be washed, this does not mean that it can be done every day. This should only be done when it becomes dirty. No matter how high-quality and wear-resistant the insulation is, frequent washing will sooner or later lead not to loss, but to a significant reduction in its thermal insulation qualities.
- When washing in the washing machine, place several tennis balls in the drum. This measure will prevent possible dumping of the filler.
- Before washing, treat heavily soiled items with stain remover and soak for 25-30 minutes. It is not recommended to use chemical bleaches to remove stains.
- When washing automatically, select the delicate cycle.
Wash in water whose temperature does not exceed 40°C, using mild detergents. It is better to use gels. The powder may not be rinsed out, which will lead to the formation of white streaks on the surface of the product.
It doesn’t matter what brand the detergent is, the main thing is that it does not contain aggressive components. When spinning in a washing machine, set a mode in which the number of revolutions does not exceed 800.
- Dry flat in a well-ventilated area away from heating devices. You also need to ensure that the product is not exposed to direct sunlight.
- Iron only if necessary with a not too hot iron. It is recommended to use an ironing iron. You can steam clothes made of polyester only if the manufacturer allows it.
Such products should not be boiled or exposed to high temperatures. Otherwise, this will lead to disruption of the structure of the polyester fiber and deformation of the product.
How to dry a jacket after washing
In most cases, manufacturers recommend drying your jacket naturally:
- Hang the product on a rope or hanger. Try to smooth the jacket so that there are no wrinkles in the fabric.
- Place it over the bathtub or place a basin: water will drain from the jacket.
- Leave the product until completely dry.
If you want to speed up the process, lightly press the bottom of the jacket with your hands from time to time to remove excess moisture.
Never hang your jacket on heating devices or on a radiator. Polyester will “lead” in the hot air and the fabric will become deformed. Some housewives try to cheat: they dry the jacket with hot air from a hairdryer or heater, or turn on electric fireplaces. Such methods are also dangerous. You will not be able to control the heating of the air, which means you risk ruining an expensive item.
Advice. If you need to speed up the drying process, use regular terry towels. Blot the product with them and hold so that the fabric absorbs the water.
If you wash winter clothes in the summer, take them out to the balcony to dry. Just make sure that direct sunlight does not hit the fabric.
Remove stains: 8 ways
Although polyester is quite resistant to stains, stubborn stains appear on it too. To get rid of them, it is better to use mild means.
Before using any method, be sure to test it on an inconspicuous area. Soak a cotton swab in the product and press it onto the fabric for a couple of minutes. If the cotton wool is not stained and the polyester does not lighten, then the stain remover has passed the test.

Salt
- Sprinkle the stain with a thick layer of salt;
- after 30 minutes, use a brush to remove any residue that has absorbed dirt;
- wash the item
10% borax solution
- treat the stains thoroughly with borax;
- then dilute 1 tsp. citric acid in 200 ml of warm water;
- Apply this solution to the stains;
- after a few minutes, rinse the item under running water;
- then wash
Hair fixation spray
How to wash a jacket on padding polyester: in the washing machine and by hand, drying rules
- spray varnish onto the stain;
- wait 3–5 minutes;
- Use a napkin to remove dirt from the polyester (the lipstick should come off like a film).
Lemon juice and salt paste
- apply it to the stain;
- place the item in the sun for 10-15 minutes;
- wash the item
Hydrogen peroxide
Dried blood can be removed with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Before use, be sure to check in an inconspicuous area how the fabric behaves!
Cold water
Fresh blood can be easily washed off with cold water. Sometimes it is enough to rub the area with an ice cube, vinegar and cold water.
- Dissolve a few tablespoons of 9% vinegar in a bowl of cold water;
- soak polyester clothes for half an hour;
- wash as usual
Soak
If there are strong stubborn stains on the jacket, pre-soak it. It is not recommended to do this with down jackets and jackets with natural filling: it clumps and clumps in water.
Soaking for 10–15 minutes to remove stubborn stains will be sufficient.
Stains, cuffs and collar are washed with laundry soap.
The greasy areas are soaked and covered with powder that removes heavy dirt. For these purposes, use liquid dishwashing detergent or stain removing gel.
If after soaking some stains still appear, they are washed off with detergent and a sponge.
Removing oil and grease stains from jackets
If the stain was noticed too late, and it has already penetrated deeply into the fabric structure, you need to resort to “more stringent measures”:
We use gasoline. Only cleaned. You need to blot it with toilet paper, place it under the stain, and carefully wipe off the stains on top with cotton wool, which also needs to be pre-moistened with gasoline. After 60-90 minutes, the jacket should be rinsed with clean water;
Salt. The soiled jacket is poured with hot water (not boiling water!), to which we first added 150 g of salt. The item is left for half an hour, then washed and dried; Glycerol
It is necessary to carefully apply a couple of drops of the substance to the stain, leave for half an hour, then wipe with a cotton pad.
In addition to these methods, you can resort to various mixtures. Their ingredients can be found in almost any home.
Ironing
Synthetic outerwear often does not need ironing if it has been dried correctly.
If after washing you are not satisfied with the appearance of the item, iron the jacket. This can be done using a vertical steamer: hang the item on hangers and smooth it out.
The jacket is ironed through a thin fabric; the temperature regime is selected for synthetic fabrics.
After ironing, the item is hung again on hangers and allowed to hang.
How to easily remove stains from polyester
Today, clothing manufacturers are trying to make the cleaning process easier. In order for the buyer to know exactly how to wash, each polyester coat is equipped with a special sewn-in label (look in the left seam), which indicates the optimal mode: manual, in a washing machine, or dry cleaning only. There you can also see the rules for drying and ironing the product.
But if you decide not to send the item to the dry cleaner, but to wash it yourself, then you need to follow very simple rules. Before washing, for example, a polyester jacket in a machine, you need to follow a few simple steps. First of all, the product must be carefully examined, because very often there may be stains on it or simply dirty, shiny areas that should be cleaned before washing.
Undoubtedly, the chemical industry is constantly improving the compositions and properties of detergents. But if you treat stains before washing, then it can be done in a more gentle mode, using a less aggressive substance. As a result, your favorite clothes will last longer and will not have to be washed again.
First, decide whether the item needs a full wash or you can limit yourself to removing stains and doing some more washing. To do this, carefully examine the jacket with a critical eye and think about whether it is suitable for a walk around the city, where you can meet acquaintances or meet new people.
The first thing you should try when you find a stain is to wipe it with a damp sanitary napkin. Fresh stains often respond to this treatment. If it doesn't work out, you'll have to pay a little more attention to them.
The second task will be to determine what substance formed the stain. Contamination on products can be removed with a special stain remover, which is sold in stores for each type of stain and their groups. There are also universal means. If you decide to use a ready-made solution, carefully read the instructions for use first.
If you don’t have a stain remover, you can try to clean the item using improvised means. Let's look at some of them.
Liquid detergents
First, you should try to remove stains using dishwashing detergent. Lightly moisten the cloth at the stained area. Take a cotton swab or cloth, apply detergent to it and lightly rub into the stain, being careful not to go too far beyond the edges. Leave for 20-30 minutes, then blot first with a cloth, then rinse with water.
If there are small stains on your jacket, you can try to remove them by using a cotton swab, dipping it into the gel and wiping the stain. Leave for 20-30 minutes, then blot, rinse and dry.
Soap
There is another simple and proven way to clean clothes from stains - using laundry soap. The technique for removing stains is almost the same as with dishwashing detergent; you just have to prepare the cleaning solution yourself.
Salt
To remove greasy stains, sometimes you can get by with simple dry cleaning using finely ground table salt.
It is important to remember that the product and salt must be as dry as possible, this will avoid streaks.
So, take a jacket, straighten the contaminated area on a horizontal surface, sprinkle it with salt and begin to rub lightly, gradually increasing the intensity. If necessary, the operation must be repeated.
Starch
Cleaning with starch gives a positive result, but this only applies to grease stains and applies to jackets where you can get bilateral (front and back) access to the dirty area.
Under the stain from the wrong side you need to put a clean napkin, folded several times, but so that the stain fits completely on it. From the front side, spread the starch over the stain in an even thin layer. Cover the top with a napkin folded in half or four. Iron and repeat if necessary.
This method is the most difficult, since it is not always possible to distribute the starch well in the seam area. And using an iron requires skill so as not to scorch or melt the fabric.
Preparatory stage
The effectiveness of washing depends on many factors, and first of all, on the correct preparation of the jacket. Before you put an item in a washing machine or basin, you need to study the icons on the product label. The tag contains all the important information: names of the material and filler, type and mode of cleaning, drying features, recommended water temperature.
If washing is allowed, it is necessary to prepare the product for the upcoming operation:
- remove contents from pockets;
- disconnect the hood (if it is fastened), fur trim, removable elements;
- fasten the buttons, close the zippers;
- sew up seams, holes, sew on buttons;
- if the jacket has massive metal fittings that cannot be detached, cover it with scraps of white fabric.
