Today, in the era of electronic payments, fewer and fewer people prefer to use cash. Well, it’s quite logical, because plastic is much more convenient in all respects. But if you have cash at your disposal that you need to deposit into your account using a bank teller or self-service terminal, then it is important to take into account that the device will only accept bills with a preserved serial number and corners.
Exchange for a new banknote at the bank
I can say with complete confidence: damaged money can be handed over to any bank and you can receive absolutely intact bills instead.
However, there are several conditions :
- you must provide all “original” parts of the bill
- Serial numbers and banknote denominations must be readable
If these conditions are met, go to the bank: they are required to accept money that is torn in several places, punctured, dirty, frayed or frayed at the edges.
How to restore the cover
Book covers often get wrinkled at the corners. A good way to restore them is to soak them in superglue. The corners will become rigid and will not wrinkle. This method is also suitable for children's books made of thick cardboard.
If the cover has become unusable or has lost some part, use your imagination. Make a blank from thick cardboard. Wrap the workpiece with paper that matches the color, so that one side of the cardboard is completely covered, and on the other side of the workpiece the edges of the sheet are folded 3-4 centimeters. Decorate to your liking.
You can print an exact copy of the previous cover on a color printer or take elements of the old one and make a custom collage.
What difficulties may arise at the bank?
If the cashier is not sure of the authenticity of the bill, it is sent for examination. Then you will have to fill out an application and leave the money in the bank for some time.
What may be the reasons for conducting an examination:
1. A bank employee may doubt that the two parts of a banknote torn in half were previously one piece of paper.
2. The bill was torn and about a third was lost.
3. Worn or lost banknote serial numbers.
If any of the above happens, the money will be sent for additional verification.
How can you glue a banknote?
I wonder if it is possible to glue a bill with tape or another method? In some cases, gluing paper money is acceptable. The first thing you should try is ordinary stationery tape, but only in case of a small defect in the banknote. Otherwise, such restoration of integrity will look quite noticeable. If you need to learn how to glue a banknote with stationery tape, then follow the following procedure:
- Carefully place the bill on a flat surface.
- Measure how long the gap is.
- Cut a strip of tape the same length as the tear.
- Cover the damaged part of the banknote with tape, but so that no creases form.
Interestingly, modern stationery stores offer to buy tape to restore damaged money.
Before gluing a torn banknote, it is worth considering another method, perhaps it will suit you better. All you need here is a glue stick:
- take a glue stick and carefully run it along the ends of the tear;
- leave the bill for 2 minutes to dry and repeat the manipulation again;
- place both parts of the banknote on paper and connect them. At the same time, you need to carefully look so that the top edge coincides with the bottom, and the image is on the front side;
- Using a stationery brush, apply a small amount of dust (talc or starch) to the joint. This is necessary so that the glued money does not stick to the rest;
- It is necessary to leave the glued banknote for 30 minutes for the glue to dry completely.
As a result, the junction will be almost invisible, which will allow you to immediately go and pay with the money glued together. Now, you know how to glue a banknote that is torn, but even when glued in the most careful way, ATMs do not always accept them. What to do in such a situation?
In what cases does the bank have the right not to change money?
Yes, banknotes may not be accepted. There are few reasons for this, but they exist.
Firstly , the bank will not exchange money that has already gone out of circulation, for example, a 1995 banknote.
Secondly , you will be refused to exchange banknotes with the typographic inscription “sample”. These are quite rare, but they do exist.
Thirdly , they definitely won’t change it if you present half or less of a bill.
You can’t just take and bring first one half of the 5000th, get a new full one instead, and then do the same with the second. It's a pity though.
It’s better not to plan any fraud: you will still be discovered, you will be left without money, and you will also be brought to criminal liability. Why do you need this?
The world is going crazy with PayPass, Bitcoin and other newfangled things. But what happens if we suddenly find ourselves without the Internet? Know that torn paper money can be repaired!
