Making slimes from soda: the best recipes without tetraborate

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a product that is sure to be found in any kitchen, and today we will try to make slime from it.

It sounds incredible, but this white powder can thicken slime just as well as tetraborate. In order not to be unfounded, we have prepared a selection of recipes, the key ingredient of which is bicarbonate.

There is a joke about how a box of baking soda can sit in the kitchen for years without running out. After our experiments, you will definitely have to run out for a new one. Let's get started!

How to make slime from PVA glue and soda

Making slime from glue and baking soda doesn't require much skill. But we decided to give free rein to our imagination by preparing several colored slimes, from which, if desired, you can mix a large rainbow slime.

There are several female stereotypes towards men. Do you agree with any?

What kind of holiday do you prefer?

An additional component in this recipe is lens fluid, which helps complete the slime formation process. In addition, dyes of different colors will be useful (you can take simple gouache or food pigments).

I recommend using Elmers brand glue for it. For a large tube (150 ml) you will need one tablespoon of baking soda and two tablespoons of contact lens rinsing liquid. It must contain boric acid.

How to cook:

A tube of glue needs to be poured into several containers (their number depends on the number of prepared dyes).

Each portion of glue is tinted in its own color. You can add glitter along with the pigment to all containers or only to some of them.

After this, you need to distribute the powder over all parts of the slime, thoroughly mixing each portion.

Lens solution is added last. You need to pour it in little by little and immediately knead the mass.

The contents of the bowl will be very sticky at first. An additional portion of the solution will help bring it to the desired consistency.

Once the slime becomes thick enough to knead with your hands, you can remove it from the container and continue kneading. The finished toy should be homogeneous, viscous, without lumps.

The procedure is repeated for each part of the slime.

Slime made from PVA glue and soda has special properties. For example, it reacts violently to an acidic environment. Try placing a piece of such a toy in vinegar. The flow of foam will be similar to a volcanic eruption. For this reason, soda handgam is called “lava slime.”

What can replace this thickener?

Baking soda is not the only thickening agent that can be used when making homemade slime. Can be used:

  1. Gelatin - only works in certain recipes and requires advance notice.
  2. Starch is great for making edible smiley faces.
  3. Sugar is even better than powdered sugar.

Can be used as a thickener - sodium tetraborate. It is sold in pharmacies and is a derivative of boric acid salts.

How to make slime from toothpaste and soda

Baking soda and toothpaste can make a wonderful slime if you do everything strictly according to the recipe.

How to make slime: 29 recipes

To create it, let's take:

  • a teaspoon of bicarbonate;
  • approximately 50 ml of toothpaste;
  • a little salt;
  • a teaspoon of sugar.

We will mix the anti-stress in several steps:

  1. First, let's prepare the activator. Dissolve two pinches of salt and sugar in half a glass of water.
  2. Mix toothpaste with baking soda and place in the refrigerator for a quarter of an hour.
  3. When the paste has cooled, fill it with the cooled activator and wait another 15 minutes.
  4. After this, you can try to knead the mixture with your hands. If it does not thicken, you need to add another portion of the solution and wait again.

Slime with baking soda without a thickener may turn out viscous. To remove stickiness, add a spoonful of flour to the toy.

How to make sparkling slime

Children love everything shiny, bright and iridescent. You can easily make your handgam sparkling.

For a brilliant version of the mixture you need the following components:

  • PVA glue,
  • borax,
  • glitter,
  • water.

Mix 100 ml of glue with glitter, and twice as much water with borax. Measure the bulk ingredients – one small spoon. Then slowly, carefully, but thoroughly combine both compositions and give the mass homogeneity.

Theoretically, you can add glitter to any of the recipes described; do not be afraid to experiment with this component, as well as with dyes.

This slime can be made at home with children.

How to make transparent slime

This is one of the difficult recipes, but if you like transparent toys, then don’t hesitate - try to act in a proven way. But first, stock up on the following:

  • plastic bowl,
  • wooden stick,
  • sodium tetrabonate,
  • polyvinyl alcohol.

Pour 100 ml of alcohol into a container, add 25 g of sodium tetrabonate. Mix the ingredients immediately. The duration of stirring the mixture is 10 minutes, so alternate hands so as not to get tired. The result will be a transparent, beautiful handgam. True, for children, due to its composition, such a toy is not the safest option, but adults can indulge in it. Or make sure that your child’s hands do not get into his mouth during or after playing with the slime.

Slime with a secret – magnetic

The most unusual type of slime is magnetic, but making it is not so easy. However, the pleasure is worth it to tinker a little, especially since the process is also fascinating.

What to cook first?

  • water,
  • borax (found at the pharmacy),
  • PVA glue,
  • iron oxide (buy at a chemical store),
  • dye.

Dissolve a spoonful of borax in water. Make sure that the solution does not contain lumps. In another bowl, combine a cup of water with a few spoons of PVA and dye. Then carefully pour the borax aqueous solution into the adhesive mass, remembering to stir the mass all the time. At the end, add a pinch of iron oxide in the center of the mixture so that the layer covers the contents, like powdering a bun. Stir again and you're done. Take a magnet and attract the slime to you: now you know such life hacks that children will believe in magic!

If the slime with glue does not work out, you may need to try glue from another manufacturer.

How to make an edible toy

And finally - the most delicious slime recipe. You can play and have some food - and sometimes that’s all a child needs to be happy, isn’t it?!

Buy treats such as:

  • chewing candies with a flavor that your children love (for example, Frutella),
  • finely ground powdered sugar.

Next, prepare a water bath - a container of boiling water with another container placed on top. Keep the heat on until the candy melts in the top bowl/pan. Naturally, chewing raw materials must be freed from wrapping and cellophane. Transfer the still warm mass of melted candy to powdered sugar and roll it like a dumpling in flour until the mixture begins to stick to your hands. That's it - the edible toy is ready. By the way, even the smallest kids can play with this slime - this is the safest option.

Another way to keep kids entertained is to make a volcano out of baking soda and vinegar. Read more about this!

How to make slime from baking soda and shampoo

When creating chewing gum for your hands, you can easily do without glue. Let's try to make a slime from soda and shampoo.

In addition to the two main ingredients, we will need naphthyzine and a little dye.

  1. Mix 3 tablespoons of thick shampoo with a teaspoon of powder. Stir vigorously until all the crystals dissolve. The mass then foams and becomes white.
  2. Color the mixture.
  3. Add naphthyzin (a couple of teaspoons is enough), stir the mixture, then put it in the freezer for 20 minutes.

After freezing, you can take the slime with your hands and knead it.

Soap and baking soda recipe

To make the following slime using baking soda and liquid soap, you will need a third ingredient - salt. The toy will be very simple in composition and safe for the skin. As with the previous recipe, you will need to cool the slime to complete the process.

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of thick soap with dry ingredients. Add salt until the entire mass reaches the desired thickness. After this, we send the container with the future anti-stress to the refrigerator. You will have to wait about an hour and a half. That's it, the slime can be pulled out, it's ready to play.

Ingredients for making slime

To make slime, use regular baking soda (sodium carbonate). It is sold in grocery stores and used in cooking, cosmetology, medicine, and everyday life.

The shelf life of the product is several years. Therefore, you can take the powder from an already opened pack, which is in the kitchen of every home.

Use baking soda carefully during the creative process. To measure, take a clean, dry spoon, making sure that no liquid gets on the paper packet.

To make a soda solution, use warm water. In cold conditions, the powder will take a long time to dissolve, but in hot conditions, it will be impossible to knead the slime with your fingers. Also, find a comfortable deep bowl and a wooden stick.

After making the slime, carefully close the package and place it in its usual place. Clean up after yourself on the table, wash dishes and hands.

Store the slime in a plastic container with a tightly closed lid. This way you can slow down the hardening of the toy under the influence of air and sunlight. Place it in the refrigerator or other cool, dark place overnight.

How to make slime from Fairy and soda

Slime from “Fairy” and soda, made with the addition of lens solution, turns out to be quite original, it looks like jelly.

To mix it we take:

  • 2 tablespoons of Fairy or other dishwashing liquid;
  • 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate;
  • 1 spoon of lens rinsing solution.

The mixing process is simple: dishwashing liquid needs to be mixed with baking soda. When the powder dissolves, the solution is poured in and the mass is again vigorously mixed.

If the slime made from soda and detergent turns out to be too liquid, you can add a little starch to it.

What to do if the toy didn’t work out

Consistency is important.
Slime may not work out for various reasons. For example, the proportions were not met or some of the components turned out to be expired. Sometimes it cannot be saved, for example if the wrong substance has been added (perfume or something like that). An expired expiration date will also not please you.

If the slime is too sticky, cold may help. It is enough to put the product in the refrigerator for several hours.

Slime made from flour and soda

This flour and baking soda slime does not require a thickener. The hand cream will bind the two dry ingredients together.

Anti-stress is very simple:

  1. Take an equal amount of dry ingredients and mix them in a deep bowl.
  2. Add the cream and start stirring. The amount of cream may be different: you will need more thick cream, less liquid cream. The main thing is that the mass is homogeneous and dense.
  3. After this, you need to knead the toy with your hands until its surface becomes smooth.

Slime, made from baking soda and flour without glue, resembles dough and does not form a film when stretched. But it is very pleasant to the touch and softens the skin of the hands well.

Who is Lizun

Lizun's first name is Slime. And he was born back in 1976. Until the 90s. Slime led a quiet and modest life until the cartoon masterpiece Ghostbusters appeared.

Of course, you all remember the funny ghost named Lizun, who became Slime’s double, and then became completely related to him, since now he has only one name.

According to production technology, slime is made of a jelly-like, non-melting substance. It can be elastic, soft, stick, change shape and thus lift your spirits. If you make Slime yourself, it is unlikely to last as long as a factory made one, but how much fun you and your kids will get from the process of creating it! How surprised you will be when you find out that you can even make edible slime! Ready to experiment?! Then let's begin!

Worth paying attention! Psychologists say that this toy has a high anti-stress property, so you don’t have to wait until you have children to start playing with this jelly-like trinket (by the way, it’s called hand chewing gum).

Children love experimenting with different textures

Slime made from starch and soda

You can make interesting slime at home using starch. Potato or corn will do.

The process of creating anti-stress is similar to kneading dough:

  1. In a glass of warm water, dissolve 3 tablespoons of soda and any starch.
  2. All lumps resulting from this must be broken up. To do this, thoroughly stir the mixture, first with a stick or spoon, and then with your hands.
  3. We evaluate the consistency. If the slime turns out liquid, add a little soda. If the lump is too dense, dilute it with water.

A slime made from soda and starch should be viscous and elastic. We paint it with any pigment and you can enjoy the game.

Precautionary measures

If you are making slime using salt, it is better to wear gloves, because if you have wounds or cuts on exposed skin, the salt will sting.

Depending on the components from which you make the toy, you may need to use protective aprons, gloves, and sometimes even a respiratory mask, as some components can cause an allergic reaction in the body. In addition, such protection will help you avoid staining your skin and clothes with dye.

Lizuna, as well as its components, should not be taken into the mouth, as chemicals can cause allergies, burns and poisoning. You should wash your hands after playing with slime. Use disposable tableware as containers. Do not use containers that will later be used for eating to mix ingredients.

Slime made from soda and water

Using this recipe for slime with soda, you can get a transparent anti-stress, which is also called glass. It is not customary to add dye to it, but glitter can be used.

First, let's prepare all the ingredients:

  • a tablespoon of bicarbonate;
  • half a glass of warm water;
  • tube of transparent glue;
  • sparkles, charms - optional.

The slime is prepared in an unusual way: instead of pouring the activator into the glue, we will place the glue in a thickening solution. To make it, dissolve the powder in warm water and let the liquid cool.

Now we will carefully pour the glue into the middle of the container in a thin stream. Do not mix the contents of the dishes. Our task is to help the glue located in the center of the liquid take shape and turn into a clot. Therefore, carefully pick up the edges of the glue spot with a stick and direct them to its middle.

Having knocked all the glue into a transparent “jellyfish” in this way, we catch it from the solution and knead it with our hands to get a homogeneous slime. When the process is finished, add sparkles and decor to the anti-stress.

Slime made from soda and glycerin

Glycerin in the slime makes its surface smooth and makes the toy glossy.

Ingredients for this recipe:

  • PVA glue;
  • borax;
  • soda;
  • glycerol;
  • warm water;
  • dye.

Let's start cooking:

  1. Dilute tetraborate (1 teaspoon) in a glass of water and add a few drops of glycerin.
  2. We pour approximately a quarter of the resulting solution into a container, add glue and pigment there.
  3. After mixing, evaluate the thickness of the slime and, if necessary, add another portion of the activating solution.

The density of the slime can be adjusted by the amount of liquid added. The toy will have a slightly oily, smooth surface.

Do-it-yourself precautions

Making a slime toy involves contact with various substances, not all of them are harmless. These are not ingredients for cooking borscht or roast, so you shouldn’t “taste” them. In addition, such behavior can lead to poisoning.

Contact with eyes and mucous membranes is not allowed. If this does happen, the affected organs should be immediately rinsed with plenty of warm water. When making slime, it is better to carry out the work wearing household gloves and safety glasses. There is no need to invent new compounds if you don’t know what your “young chemist” game will lead to. It’s better to use ready-made recipes, of which there are many, so that you have plenty to choose from.

Slime made from salt and soda

This slime is made from baking soda without adding glue or sodium tetraborate. It will require bulk ingredients, accompanied by shower gel.

We proceed in the same way as in the case of liquid soap: first mix soda and gel, and then bring the toy to the desired thickness, gradually adding fine salt. The resulting slime will look like jelly. You can use it as finger slime by placing it in a convenient container.

Making a sticky monster out of shaving foam in 5 minutes

Such a thing can rightfully be called anti-stress, because you can do anything with it, crush it, throw it and even sculpt it. In addition, you make it yourself from various things, which means you develop creative abilities, and also learn how to correctly add certain ingredients by eye, which is also important.

It turns out that you are like a scientist who measures and cuts himself, or a teacher. And then bam and it's done. By the way, such a toy can be placed in a net and then observed as a mass of sticky mass passes through it.

We will need:

  • shaving foam - 1 tbsp
  • silicate glue - 2 tbsp
  • Gloss detergent

Stages of work:

1. Take a deep cup and add shaving foam into it. Now add silicate glue to the foam and start mixing with a stick or you can take an unnecessary simple pencil. Then pour in a little Losk to thicken.

2. This is such an airy and fluffy plus stretchy licking bouncy thing. Store it in a jar to prevent it from drying out.

Tips and tricks

Slimes that contain baking soda dry out fairly quickly in the air. Therefore, for the created slimes, it is better to immediately prepare containers with a tightly screwed lid. This will increase their lifespan.

Anti-stress products have an unpleasant taste, so children are unlikely to want to eat them. However, you should not leave your baby playing with slime unattended, especially if it contains Fairy, glue or shower gel.

Don't add too much dye to the toy. It is better to do this in very small portions. A very richly colored slime can stain your hands when playing, or stain clothes or furniture if it accidentally gets on them.

Experience shows that the optimal dye for handgam is gouache. With its help you can get any shade by mixing different paints. In addition, gouache easily dissolves both in liquid ingredients and in ready-made slime.

Rules for storing and using soda slimes

Nothing lasts forever, but the life of the finished product can be extended with reasonable storage. Regardless of what components the slime was made from, it is best to store it on the refrigerator door in a tightly closed jar. The product should also be protected from sunlight and temperatures above +20 degrees.

Today there is a wide variety of slime options. Every manufacturer tries to differentiate itself in one way or another. In stores you can find a whole pot of slime weighing 1 kg. There are also slimes with the scent of various fruits or flowers.
