Elegantly combine white top and dark blue bottom. Knitted from white, thin threads, an elongated T-shirt with thick straps looks great with any style of denim skirt. T-shirts with drawings or with your favorite cartoon characters will also work well here. Both sports and classic shoes are allowed. On a flat platform and small heels. In winter, a denim skirt goes well with a sweater, turtleneck, or knitted vest. A denim backpack plus a denim skirt - this is a fashionable set for the summer of 2016.

Shoes and accessories
There should be no excesses in a child's image. Children's clothes themselves are very expressive and colorful. The image of a little lady can be completed with such elements as a neckerchief or textile scarf, a contrasting belt and a shoulder bag. A short denim skirt can be worn with sneakers and a compact backpack.
A skirt with lace should be complemented with patent leather ballet flats or strappy shoes. Metal or plastic bracelets or a fashionable watch with a bright strap are suitable as accessories. As for bags, small rectangular or rounded shoulder models are best for girls.
The autumn-winter look will be complemented by thick knitted tights with a smooth or textured surface. Ugg boots or boots with a wide top are in harmony with denim skirts of any style. If when sewing a skirt, trim in the form of leather, colorful fabric or lace is used, then similar elements can appear in accessories and companion clothing.
The image of a young fashionista can be completed with knitted leg warmers, colorful knee socks or colorful wristbands. Which accessories should be preferred depends on the chosen style of clothing. Denim skirts are so practical that they can be combined with almost any wardrobe item.
We sew a children's six-piece skirt in a detailed lesson for beginners
Before you begin, you need to rip out your old jeans. To do this, cut the trouser legs at knee level and rip out the side seams. We also use the upper part for the skirt, as well as for the belt and appliqués.
On paper we make a pattern of one wedge. For this model, the pattern looks like a trapezoid 30 cm high, with a lower base of 24 cm and an upper base of 12 cm. You can use this pattern or make it according to your own measurements, just keep in mind that the upper base is 1/6 of the waist circumference.
Using the pattern, cut out six wedges for the skirt from the fabric.
We sew the resulting wedges together in three pieces, we get the front and back parts. After this, we sew the sides, steam all the seams with an iron and stitch them with a decorative zigzag stitch.
All that remains is to cut out and sew on the belt, hem the bottom of the skirt and make appliqués or other decorations to your liking. The six-piece skirt for the girl is ready.
This is how you can quickly and easily sew a large number of different skirts for your princess, using both old jeans and new fabric.

Children's clothes from unwanted jeans
DIY children's jackets made from jeans
Jeans will suit any style of clothing, both for boys and girls. Denim fabric is dense, holds its shape well, is practical to wear, so it is ideal for sewing children's jackets. It is advisable to use new or lightly worn jeans for alterations.
For example, from straight men's jeans size 50 for a height of 176 cm, I was able to cut out and sew a classic denim jacket for a 2-3 year old boy with a height of 98 cm. The pattern for such a jacket can be found in the magazine “Burda. Special issue. Children" for 2009.
Building a pattern
The success of the work will depend on an accurate and correctly constructed pattern. It is carried out according to individual measurements.
What measurements will you need?
To achieve a good fit of the product on your figure, you need to take the following measurements:
- waist and hip circumferences,
- length from the waist to the floor and the estimated bottom in front, side and back.
ATTENTION! Measurements are taken on a naked figure. The measuring tape should not be stretched or sagging. A belt is tied at the waist to ensure accurate measurements.
We record all measurements in centimeters.
- To find the waist line, press the bent arm at the elbow towards the body. Where the elbow ends is where the waist ends. The tape should run horizontally.
- To measure hip circumference, place the tape horizontally slightly below the waist . We lower it to the widest point in order to pass through the closed tape along the entire length of the skirt.
- To accurately measure length, it is better to use this method. The desired front length is 50. The distance from the waist line to the floor in the front is 103. The difference between measurements is: 103-50=43. The length of the sections of the structure is set as follows: front - 103-43=60. Side: 105-43=62, back - 103-43=60. In the example, the difference in length measurements is 2 cm. This is how much the side length rises above the midpoints of the front and back panels of the skirt.
IMPORTANT! The girths for constructing the drawing are divided in half, since we are building only half of the part.
The basis for constructing a classic denim skirt
To work, you can take a ready-made drawing of the base of the skirt and adjust it to your size.
You can also prepare the base yourself. To do this, we will build a mesh and then a drawing on it.
ATTENTION! When constructing a grid, all lines must be strictly perpendicular.
- We start from point A, put the length of the product down and get point D (front line).
- In width we measure PB (half hip circumference) plus 1 cm for fit. We get point B (waist line).
- Now, knowing the length and width, we need to construct a rectangle and get point B.
- Location of darts. From the points on the hip line we measure 1/6 Pb plus 1 cm. We divide the remaining segment in half and get a side cut.
- Calculation of darts. From Pb we subtract Pt. The side dart is equal to half of the total amount. The back dart is equal to ½ the side dart plus 1 cm.
- On the drawing we set aside 2 cm from the point of intersection of the line of the back dart with the waist line to the right and 3 cm to the left.
- We make the side dart in the same way: 3 cm to the right and 5 cm to the left. Connect the dots.
IMPORTANT! When building the base, seams are not taken into account; do not forget this when cutting.
Modeling a denim skirt
When we have a basic drawing (base), we can model straight, tapered, slightly flared products.
- We narrow the side seams by 2 cm and connect the new points with the hip line.
- On the back seam we will make an allowance for a vent 11 cm long and 3.5 cm wide.
- Let's mark the yoke line on the back panel.
- We cut the back dart to the yoke line, from the side seam we cut along the yoke line, close the waist dart, it goes into the yoke line.
- We mark a place for the pocket.
- On the front panel we make an allowance for the fastener 15 cm long and 4.5 cm wide.
- We transfer the undercut to the side seam.
- We outline a pocket, it can be just for decoration (without burlap).
DIY children's skirt: step-by-step master class and detailed instructions for choosing a pattern
It is well known that children from an early age need to develop a sense of beauty. This also applies to clothing. It is necessary that for children it is not only practical and comfortable, but also beautiful. This especially applies to small women. Girls always watch their mothers and try to copy their way of dressing, learn to combine individual details and present themselves.
Young princesses already at their age want to be fashionable and stylish. You can start with the skirt. Today in stores, children's skirts are presented in a fairly wide assortment, and choosing the right option is not difficult. But it’s even easier to sew this wardrobe element with your own hands.
How to sew a skirt yourself
Undoubtedly, any little girl loves to dress fashionably. In addition, sometimes you urgently need an outfit for a children's party, a skirt for an amateur concert, etc. Instead of running around shopping centers looking for the right thing, it is better to sew it with your own hands.
Helpers in this matter will be personal talent and optimism, as well as the child’s eyes filled with hope.
- Don’t forget the detailed master classes on “how to sew a children’s skirt with your own hands,” which can be found on the Internet.
Making a pattern
As you can see in the photo of children's skirts, different models require different patterns. But the process of building them is generally the same:
- Taking measurements. You will need only three - waist size, hip size, and the length of the future skirt. The waist should be measured at the narrowest part of the torso, and the hips should be measured at the widest part. You should record the results obtained in half the value, and do not forget to add 1 - 2 cm for allowances. The length of the product depends on the desire of the little fashionista.
- Constructing a pattern on whatman paper in accordance with the data.
- Creating a fabric blank. To do this, we lay the finished pattern on the material chosen for the skirt and cut out the details of the future product.
Jeans skirt
Even ordinary jeans can be turned into a stylish item for your baby. Here are brief instructions on how to sew a children's skirt from jeans:
- We take measurements and make a pattern.
- Draw a horizontal line on whatman paper with a length equal to ½ the volume of the hips plus 2 cm for the seams.
- We measure the middle of the drawn segment and draw a vertical line - its length is equal to the length of the skirt.
- We draw two side lines, and they should widen slightly towards the bottom.
- Cut the pattern in half along the center line and transfer it to the material.
- We sew the cut out elements of the skirt. We cut out the belt, thread an elastic band into it and process the bottom cut. The product is ready!
Stylish tulle skirt
Tulle is a light, airy fabric that can be of a wide variety of colors. Sewing a children's skirt from tulle with your own hands is not at all difficult.
Approximately 1.5 m of material will be required. It needs to be cut into strips 0.2 m wide and a length equal to the desired length of the product. Then each of them must be secured with an elastic band.
Here you can use a double knot or a stapler. Alternation of tulle of different shades is allowed. The finished skirt can be decorated with a satin ribbon, artificial flowers, or a bow.
Skater skirt for a child from 3 to 5 years old
Prepare the following:
- fabric – 0.5 m;
- decorative elastic band 5 cm wide - 0.6 m.
The waist radius is 14 cm, the length of the skirt is 25 cm. After cutting out 2 halves of the future product from the material, we mark the waist lines - stepping back from the edge 1.5 cm, we draw a line for sewing the elastic. Fold each part of the skirt in half and mark the middle. Then we sew all the cuts.
The next step is assembling the skirt. Here you will need a sewing machine. Please note that the second side of the skirt will be sewn last, after sewing on the belt.
Now let's move on to the elastic band. Having decided on its required length, we divide it into 4 equal parts and put marks. We combine the marks on the belt with the marks on the waistline of the skirt and secure with pins.
Next, we sew the elastic on the sewing machine and connect the remaining side of the skirt. Iron all side seams. We bend the bottom of the product and also iron it. All that remains is to sew the hem of the skirt hem along the wrong side.
We hope that you understand from this review that sewing a children's skirt yourself is not such a difficult task. Try, and the resulting result will please not only your baby, but also you.

Sewing a skirt with the addition of knitted material
This is a great way to improve a skirt for children whose waist feels tight and tight. Cut off the belt from the skirt. We take a strip equal to the girl’s waist circumference, fold it in half and sew it to our skirt (the strip can be cut from sweatpants, which are small but suitable as fabric). Don't forget to insert the elastic into the waistband.
We select a single color for the knitwear. Thus, we get a denim skirt combined in material and even color.
Sewing a model with an elastic band
A simple, straight denim skirt with elastic. Let's take old jeans. Cut off the bottom of the trouser leg and the torn seams. We sew them together.
We buy a thick elastic band at the store. We adjust it in a circle with a zigzag or make our own belt from thick knitwear. To do this, bend the fabric in half, insert an elastic band and sew it to the belt.
Model of 6 wedges
From old jeans, 6 rectangles measuring 30*15 cm are cut out (addition for seams is taken into account) and sewn. It is better to process the edges of the internal seams using a zigzag machine or using an overlocker.
We turn the top edge to the width of the elastic and, leaving a hole for inserting the elastic, stitch it.
To determine the size of the elastic, measure your waist and subtract 5 cm. Place a pin on the end of the elastic and pull it through the belt.
Sew the two ends together and sew the opening closed with a blind stitch.
Finish the bottom of the skirt with the same overlock or zigzag stitch.
Fluffy denim skirt
When I was little, my sister and I (we are twins) had denim lambada skirts that were fashionable at that time. Many girls had skirts like this and, as I remember, everyone really liked them. So I decided to sew a fluffy denim skirt for my little daughter. In the morning, when I put the skirt on my daughter, she twirled in it and said: “Nikulya is a fashionista! Thank you mom!"

So, we cut out 3 strips from denim (see photo). The sizes of the stripes are given for a skirt for girls aged 2-3 years.
Skirt pattern
We sew each strip together. Fold the top edge of the wide strip and stitch it (the width of the hem should be slightly larger than the width of the elastic). Then we take thin strips and, using a thread and a needle, make small ties and tighten them with thread to the desired diameter. We sew the strips to each other in the required order (see photo).

Skirt with pockets and embroidery
A cool denim skirt can be made from adult jeans. Here we will get more fabric, which is to our advantage. You can sew a beautiful fashionable item for a girl or girl.
To work you will need:
- Old jeans.
- 4 buttons.
- Ready-made patch on pockets, or do-it-yourself embroidery.
- Elastic band for the belt.
- Scissors, thread.
- Pencil, ruler.
We start by measuring the child's waist and determining the length of the skirt. For example: if you take a 5-year-old princess, then the measurements will be approximately the following: waist circumference - 59 cm, length of the skirt from the waist line - 35 cm, hip volume - 68 cm. You can correct the pomp of the lower frill (flounce) by multiplying approx. waist by 2 - this will be the length of the flounce. We will need to cut out the details: a belt, the top of the skirt, 2 pockets, a placket and a flounce.
- The belt is cut - width - 12 cm, length - waist circumference plus 16 cm (75 cm). You will get a strip of 12/75 cm.
- The top of the skirt is the volume of the hips plus 14 cm for a loose fit, the width is the length of the skirt divided by 2. You get a stripe of 82/17.5 cm.
- Bottom of the skirt – width – 59 cm, multiply by 2. The height of the flounce is 17.5 cm. The result is a stripe of 118/17.5 cm.
- Cut the plank arbitrarily, to the length of the top. Make the pocket details out of paper, this will make it easier to figure out what size pocket to make. Then transfer it to fabric and cut it out.
Do not forget about seam allowances of 0.9 - 1 cm.
First, let's deal with the pockets: embroider on them, or sew on stripes. Fold the yoke piece in half and mark the middle with a pencil. We make the strap: we grind it along the length, turn it inside out, sew on the buttons, and adjust it to the middle of the yoke. Then we fold the yoke in half again and mark the location of the pockets with a pencil and ruler. We make sure everything is symmetrical. We baste the pockets using live thread. Let's see: if everything is symmetrical, we sew pockets.
Next, fold the belt and the top section of the skirt yoke right sides together. We sew along the wrong side, departing 1 cm from the cut. We sew around the cut of the belt, turn it inward, and attach it to the yoke. We thread the elastic into the waistband and secure the ends with a couple of stitches. Fold the skirt yoke and stitch along the side seam. We iron the seam and overcast it.
Prepare the bottom frill: make a small fringe along the bottom and sew a line at a distance of 1.5-2 cm from the cut. Manually assemble the frill along the cut, evenly distributing the assembly. Fold the yoke and frill right side to right side and baste. Then sew and process the cut.
That's all. The skirt for your daughter or granddaughter is ready.
How to sew a skirt from jeans: 5 master classes of varying difficulty
We have selected master classes of varying degrees of difficulty on how to transform jeans into a denim skirt with your own hands - both for beginners and more experienced craftswomen.
Jeans skirt - classic version: master class
The first method is classic. Using these instructions, you can sew your own jeans skirt to knee length, slightly lower or slightly higher, a straight skirt, slightly tapered or slightly flared. The length of the skirt depends on your desire. Width - depends on the cut of the jeans and the width of the wedges you will insert into the skirt. Skinny jeans with narrow wedges (or one in the front) will make a pencil skirt, flared jeans with wide wedges will make an A-shaped skirt, or a bell skirt. For a straight or slightly tapered model, you don’t have to insert the wedge at the back: the resulting cut will act as a slot. You can hem the bottom of the skirt or leave it unfinished.
So, you will need:
- sewing machine and thread.
1. Decide on the length of the future skirt, add about 3 cm and cut the jeans legs to the desired length.
2. Open the crotch seams of the trousers.
3. Open the middle seams at the front and back.
4. Place the pant leg pieces one on top of the other, trying to form a flat sheet. Please note: if you do not open the middle seams too high, you will end up with a more flared skirt. If you pick up the seams higher and overlap more, you can create a narrower skirt.
5. Sew the seams front and back.
6. From the cut pieces of the legs, cut out 2 pieces for the wedges. If you want to leave the cut at the back as a slot, you will need 1 piece.
7. Place the wedge fabric from the back to the front of the skirt, as shown in the photo. Pin it with pins.
8. Sew the piece to the front along the remaining stitching lines of the jeans.
9. Repeat for the back of the skirt unless you want to leave a slit. If you are leaving a vent, finish the edges of the slit by stitching along the remaining stitching lines of the jeans.
Denim skirt pattern for girls
For sewing, you can take not only new fabric, but also old jeans . They are combined with various materials: knitwear, cotton, silk, lace and so on. Skirts can be sewn either with a belt or with an elastic band.
For girls, we also draw a basic pattern and, after changing it a little, we get an A-line skirt.
REFERENCE. The style of the skirt is suitable for every figure. The bottom line in them is extended to the depth of the dart. The width of the skirt depends on the difference between the waist and hips.
Let's model an A-line children's skirt.
- On the front panel of the base base, cut along a vertical line from the end of the dart to the line.
- We close the dart, the skirt will expand along the bottom line.
- We do the same with the rear panel.
ATTENTION! The bottom of the skirt is widened by the same distance on both the front and back panels.
Useful tips for sewing a denim skirt
- Make a pattern before purchasing fabric. It will be easier for you to calculate how much material you will need for the skirt.
- Don’t rush to cut, the fabric needs to be washed, dried and ironed.
- For a sewing machine, take needles No. 100 or special denim needles No. 80–100. These needles have a very thin point. They are wear-resistant.
- Buy a quality clasp. Then you won't have to change the zipper on your skirt often.
- Thick sections of seams must be thoroughly steamed through damp material before sewing . Then the fabric will soften and become thinner. But you still need to sew at low speeds, and it’s better to scroll these places manually.
- When moving from a thick section to a thin section, place fabric or cardboard under the foot so that the foot has support when sewing.
- For stitching you will need decorative thread. They fill it from above. The bobbin uses reinforced thread No. 45.
