How to repair a Samsung washing machine yourself

Samsung produces various types of equipment, including washing machines. Typically, diversified companies produce very mediocre products, but not in the case of Samsung. The products of this company are always of high quality and washing machines are no exception. However, any equipment breaks down, and sooner or later the consumer will have to solve this problem. As part of the article, we will look at typical failures of washing machines from Samsung, and also talk about how to fix them yourself.

Troubleshooting

Even the most proven and reliable equipment can have problems. This also applies to Samsung washing machines. In these cases, manufacturers have provided for self-diagnosis using special built-in systems that allow them to detect software failures and other problems. All detected errors are displayed as signals.

Fault notification can be in two ways:

  • The washing machine display displays a code in the form of digital and alphabetic combinations indicating system errors. The South Korean encoding differs from the European one: instead of the F symbol, it uses a unique code with a base in the form of the letter E. Then numbers or letters can be added to it. So, E7 corresponds to a malfunction of the water sensor, and code DE indicates a poorly closed hatch cover. These codes are indicated in more detail in the technical documentation supplied with the washing machine.
  • There are many models without a display. In this case, errors are displayed by light signals on special indicators. In some cases, they may be accompanied by sound signals. In earlier Samsung washing machines, a blinking indicator meant any problem, but in modern automatic machines, each error already corresponds to a certain number of light and sound signals. The decoding of such codes is also contained in the instruction manual.

When a malfunction is detected, an automatic notification is activated. But, if necessary, you can run a diagnostic test yourself to identify possible problems. For this purpose, the door is closed, after which the temperature mode and rinse start buttons are pressed simultaneously. As a result, all sensors should light up. To activate testing, the START button is pressed and held in this position. This scheme is suitable for most models of Samsung washing machines.

Possible difficulties and solutions

In the process of connecting the washing machine, the user may encounter unexpected difficulties, which the following tips will help to cope with:

  1. If it is not possible to organize a connection to the sewer immediately after purchasing a washing machine, you can temporarily use the option of draining into a bathtub or sink, and then organize a permanent connection.
  2. In the absence of a centralized water supply, the washing machine can be supplied with water using a water tank raised by at least 100 cm. In this case, the hose must be attached to the bottom of this tank and ensure that the container always remains filled. This situation may be relevant for dachas. The cardinal solution is to install a water pump.
  3. If, even at the stage of unpacking the new machine, housing defects or insufficient equipment were noticed, it is necessary to demand replacement of the defective equipment.
  4. If, upon first start-up, defects in the automatic machine were identified, you must contact a service center that supports Samsung equipment under warranty.
  5. Installing a built-in washing machine poses a special difficulty. If you have no experience in carrying out such work, it is better to entrust the connection of equipment to professionals.

Water is rising slowly

Sometimes during operation it becomes noticeable that water is drawn into the Samsung washing machine very slowly, and the washing itself takes too long. Before calling a technician, you should try to identify and fix the problem yourself. Often this situation occurs due to low water pressure in the water supply system. In this case, you need to either wait for normal pressure or wash at low pressure for a long time. Sometimes the shut-off valve is not completely open and it is enough to open it all the way.

The inlet hose often becomes kinked. Therefore, it is recommended to check it regularly and, if necessary, straighten it to restore normal water flow. The filler valve strainer installed at the inlet of the Samsung washing machine may be clogged. Before cleaning, the water supply is turned off, the inlet hose is unscrewed, the mesh is carefully removed from the inlet valve, cleaned with a stiff brush and washed with water under high pressure. The mesh can be cleaned by immersing it in a citric acid solution for 30 minutes.

How to reset?

The easiest way to reset a program on any machine is to reboot the system.
But this method is used if the machine does not respond to commands and freezes a lot. In other cases, an emergency reboot is not recommended, since the board and electronics as a whole are at risk. It's better not to take risks and practice safe cycle reset. To reset the program safely, you need to follow the following instructions.

  1. Press the “Start” button for 3-6 seconds.
  2. Wait until all the lights on the dashboard turn green and go off.
  3. Make sure the wash is paused.

When the mode is reset successfully, the machine “goes silent” and all the lights on the panel blink and go out. If after the manipulations there is no “blinking” and silence, then the situation is bad - the machine is faulty and the system generates an error. In this case, you cannot do without a reboot.

A proper reboot is done like this.

  1. Turn the programmer to the first position.
  2. Press the Stop/Start key and hold for 5-6 seconds.
  3. Disconnect the machine from the power supply by unplugging the power cord from the outlet.
  4. Turn on the power supply and run a test wash.

If the machine does not respond to turning the selector and the start button, you will have to act radically and immediately pull the cord out of the outlet. But it is better to try to carry out preliminary manipulations several times. Do not forget that if the machine is suddenly disconnected from the network, the user risks damaging the control board and the electronics as a whole.

Samsung washing machine stops during washing

Sometimes a Samsung automatic machine may stop during washing. This can happen for various reasons, including the following:

  • The weight of items placed in the drum is above the permissible limit. If the sensor indicates overload, you need to reduce the amount of laundry.
  • The washing mode is incorrectly set. This is especially true for operation without draining and spinning, in which the machine stops while rinsing with water. To do it again, you need to forcefully activate the drain function.
  • An imbalance of things when they gather in a common lump. You need to open the door, distribute the laundry evenly throughout the drum, after which the machine will start working again.

If after the simplest manipulations the Samsung washing machine still does not work, then the breakdown is more serious and requires qualified intervention.

If the washer stops after 10-15 minutes of operation, this indicates a problem with the heating element. When the heating element fails, washing stops until the temperature provided by the system is reached. You can determine the malfunction by touching the glass on the door. If it is cold, then the heating element is faulty.

In another case, the water heats up, but the Samsung machine still does not work. This indicates a thermostat malfunction, which can occur at various stages of the wash. The same thing happens due to a faulty drum, which is jammed or warped when a foreign object gets between it and the tank.

The Samsung washing machine sometimes stops due to a burnt out motor or a faulty control board. In this case, the drum will remain motionless no matter which mode is turned on. The unit may stop if the timer freezes. This breakdown is quite difficult to determine and should only be repaired by qualified specialists.

If the Samsung machine is under warranty

If a machine that is under warranty breaks down, you should not try to repair it yourself. .

First you need to find a warranty card. It may indicate the number of the service center to contact.

If there are no contact details, you need to go to the store where the equipment was purchased. At the point of sale, the goods must be taken away for examination.

After determining the cause of the breakdown, there are 3 options for the development of events:

  1. The device will be repaired free of charge.
  2. The buyer gets his money back.
  3. The product is exchanged for a similar one.

As a rule, problems do not arise with equipment that has a manufacturing defect. If the store refuses to accept a broken machine, you need to write a complaint addressed to the director. When you cannot get an answer, you should contact the court or the Consumer Rights Protection Department. The maximum period for consideration of a claim is 10 days.

Delivery of the washing machine to the store is the responsibility of the buyer. The seller must transport the equipment to the examination site.

If he did not do this, and the cause of the breakdown is defective, the store is obliged to pay the costs incurred by the consumer. In this case, you need to collect all the receipts to prove your case in court.

The drum does not rotate

The drum of the Samsung washing machine has stopped rotating. In this case, it is recommended to stop the unit, drain the water, open the door and try to rotate the drum manually. If this is not possible, then it is jammed for one of the reasons:

  • The doors of a top-loading washing machine opened spontaneously and caught the heating element or other part.
  • Bearing failure. It may become jammed or completely collapse. The main reason is wear of the sealing gland, which allows water to pass through due to loss of elasticity.
  • The drive belt has stretched and slipped off and must be replaced along with the bearing.
  • A foreign object got stuck between the drum and the tank, which stopped the movement.

In another situation, the drum can be rotated by hand, but not rotated by an electric motor. The most likely causes are the following:

  • Worn motor brushes.
  • Wear of a belt that has lost its technical properties.
  • The engine does not work due to water leaks or power surges.
  • Malfunction of the control module or programmer. Resetting the program, repairing the board, or replacing it completely can help.

Leaking

If a puddle forms under the machine during washing, you need to check the following places for leaks:

  • Supply hose;
  • Loading hatch cuff;
  • Pump, filter and drain pipe;
  • Tank seal;
  • Retractable powder dispenser and water supply tubes.

Inlet hose
Connection points for the inlet hose - you need to tighten the nut more tightly, but without using a wrench.

Drain pump with drain pipe

Leaking from under the bottom of the washing machine. We lay it on its side and check all the connections between the drain pump and the filter and the drain pipe. The clamps need to be tightened more tightly. If the pipe material has lost its elasticity, it is better to replace the part completely. But as a temporary measure, for 1-2 washes, the seat can be lubricated with some kind of sealant, then install the pipe and tighten the clamp.

Tighten the clamps

Very often, during washing, foreign sharp objects fall out of pockets, which can damage the cuff near the hatch. In this case, there is only one way out - simply replace it. The cuff is made of silicone and cannot be repaired.

Cuff damage

Replacing the cuff

This type of malfunction is especially likely in vertical washing machines, since they have a large cuff area.

For a vertical cuff, replacing the cuff is a rather troublesome procedure, but does not require special skills, only accuracy. The plastic retainer that holds the cuff on a metal or plastic body does not provide for the possibility of removal or reuse, so it must be carefully cut off or removed in another way (nippers, pliers).

The cuff itself must have a special profile that is put on the protrusion - the seat, until it stops

When installing, pay special attention to the markers. Both on the cuff and on the body of the washing machine there are arrows, and in the cuff there are additional protrusions for fasteners

They need to be carefully placed in the right places.

Markers must match

When purchasing a spare cuff, make sure that the repair kit includes clips.

Water doesn't heat up

Sometimes during washing you suddenly discover that the water in the machine stops heating. There are main reasons leading to this situation:

  • Water level sensor malfunction. For various reasons, it stops letting water through and it, in turn, stops heating because the heating element does not turn on.
  • The heating element does not work and does not heat the water. This can happen due to an open circuit and a malfunction of the heater. It is necessary to replace the burnt wires, and, if necessary, the heating element.
  • Formation of a large layer of scale on the surface of the heating device. It must be removed using hot water with citric acid and then undergo regular inspections and preventive maintenance. One solution to the problem may be to install a water purification filter.
  • A faulty thermostat that sends signals to the control system to turn the heating on and off. If there is a breakdown, the water does not heat up at all or heats up to very high temperatures.
  • Control module failure. This happens when contacts break or moisture gets inside the unit. Most often, it cannot be repaired and is replaced with a new element.

Interesting!

Washing machines equipped with the “No Iron” or “Easy Iron” functions can wash clothes with little to no wrinkling. This effect is achieved through a special approach to spinning - it is performed at low speeds, with long pauses, and a small amount of water is retained in the tank.

Removing the cover

Often the need for dismantling work arises when there is a breakdown inside the housing. If you are faced with a breakdown of your washing machine, you need to figure out the cause of the malfunction - this is where disassembly will be necessary. In many cases, it starts with removing the cover.

If you are interested in which washing machines have the top cover removed, then the first answer to the question will be: SM with front loading. In the article we will consider whether it is possible to do this yourself.

As for brands and models, it happens that under the same brand there are different model lines, in which the covers are removed in different ways, or maybe not removed at all.

Removing the top cover of the washing machine does not require careful preparation, and all you need is a screwdriver - give preference to the Phillips type.

Remember to be safe: Before removing the cover, unplug the power cord by removing the plug from the outlet. Then proceed like this:

  1. Pull out the machine for convenience and unscrew the mounting bolts (located at the back).
  2. Move the panel back slightly by pushing it slightly.
  3. When it comes out of its grooves, you can easily remove it.
  4. Now nothing prevents you from getting inside the SM housing to carry out the necessary checks and repairs.

Knowing how to open the top lid of a washing machine automatically gives you the idea of how to close it. To replace the panel, you need to place the front part in the grooves and push it forward. At the very end, the fasteners are screwed in.

Breakdowns

An automatic washing machine from any manufacturer can fail, and Samsung is no exception. There are certain parts that, for a number of reasons, break over time. Here are typical ones:

  • heat electric heater;
  • drain pump;
  • engine;
  • control module;
  • hatch handle;
  • drive belt;
  • water fill valve;
  • bearings;
  • shock absorbers;
  • UBL.

Pressostat

Note that the pressure switch is a reliable part and rarely fails. All of the listed components break down only after a certain wear and tear, usually after 10 years of operation. Or in case of violation of the use of the machine.

This is not to say that this SMA has weak points. Except for the electrical wiring. The length of the wires is precisely calculated, and they are laid without reserve. Everything is tied into bundles very tightly. Sometimes this causes the wire to break at a bend. Therefore, in the event of a malfunction, we call all the loops.

Useful tips

If the machine stops working (does not start), you first need to check whether the power supply has been turned off and whether the system is connected to the mains. To extend the life of the heating element, you will have to ensure that only soft water enters the system. When replacing the pump, it is worth preparing a container and old rags to collect the leaking water. In many cases, problems can be resolved by removing the threads and many other objects wrapped around it from the impeller. It is advisable to see if something is wound around the electric motor shaft.
