Crazy tea party: restoring a broken nail with a tea bag

Nails consist of many stratum corneum, and careless hand care or performing household work without using gloves can lead to gradual damage to the nail plate, causing detachments or breakages.

It is quite difficult to restore a nail yourself, so girls either cut it off completely or turn to a specialist. However, there is one common home method - repairing your nails with a tea bag. Such repairs are absolutely safe for the girl, so you can do it without fear.

Choosing an option to help a broken nail

To solve the problem of a broken nail you will need the following materials:

  • Disinfectant, or fresh scrub. If the nail has a deep crack and a bleeding wound appears, this area must be treated with a disinfectant. This will remove germs and degrease the plate.
  • Buff, nail file. Will be needed for filing and making it smooth.
  • Tweezers.
  • Materials for plate repair. We will look at them in more detail below.

3. Base coat for gel polish. Performs the same functions as glue. The base is applied to the damaged area and polymerized under a UV lamp.

4. Tips. If the nail is broken in the middle and it is not possible to cut off the damaged plate, extension tips will come to the rescue. The essence of the repair is simple - the tips are glued to the plate so as to fix the damaged area, preventing the nail from cracking further.

5. Clear varnish. Regular varnish can help for a while and stop the breakdown. It's best to combine it with a sticker. First you need to apply a layer of varnish, then glue the sticker and fix it with another layer of varnish.

6.Acrylic or gel. Extension specialists often restore damaged nails, and these two materials are perfect for this. With their help, you can not only fix the crack, but also give the nail the desired shape if it breaks off.

7. Quick-hardening gel. It is used in salons in extreme cases, when a breakdown has exposed the soft part and bleeding has begun. To prevent the crack from going further, the master fills the crack with a special biogel with proteins that will speed up the healing of the nail. After such repairs, contact with detergents and acetone is excluded, otherwise the gel will quickly lose its properties.

Under no circumstances should you use adhesives such as “Moment” or “Superglue” to repair a nail - they are not intended for contact with the skin and can cause serious harm to health.

The most practical method is to cover the nail with a tea bag.

This is how to fix a cracked nail

- the simplest and most accessible, if only because a tea bag can probably be found in every home. It has very tenacious properties, while being translucent and thin.

For repairs you will need the following tools and materials:

  • a small piece of tea bag for a patch to seal a crack on the nail,
  • clear nail polish,
  • nail scissors.
  1. If the nail is covered with varnish, remove it and disinfect the plate.
  2. We slightly file the surface of the nail at the crack to make it smooth and degrease the nail. Apply a small drop of transparent varnish to the damaged area and apply a piece of the bag. We level it over the surface and apply another layer of varnish.
  3. If desired, when the transparent varnish is dry, apply a colored coating.
  • Restoration at home is possible only if the nail is broken no more than 1/3.
  • Self-repair will last about 2-3 days. During this time, while the wound is healing and the nail grows a little, try to be more careful.
  • If you used clear varnish, do not remove it with an acetone-containing product - just touch it up periodically.
  • To speed up the growth of a broken nail, make salt baths daily using 2 tablespoons of sea salt and a glass of hot water.

Typically, plate failure is associated with frequent contact with detergents, as well as a lack of vitamins.

To avoid an unpleasant situation in the future, be sure to use protective gloves when cleaning and washing dishes, review your diet, and also take care of strengthening with caring creams and medicinal varnishes.

Well-groomed nails are a woman’s natural adornment. Despite all efforts to strengthen the plate, the regrown part may break. You don’t need to immediately pick up scissors and trim all your nails to even out the length. It's better to seal the broken one. Use one of the methods below.

Why do nails break?

The main reason for brittle nails is a lack of vitamins and other beneficial elements. Sometimes, to solve the problem, it is enough to simply change your diet and include the following products in the menu that are important for healthy nails:

  • dairy products;
  • nuts;
  • seafood and seaweed;
  • vegetables and herbs;
  • fatty fish.

In addition, a possible reason could be the use of low-quality cosmetics.

For example, the nail plate can weaken under the influence of acetone and formaldehyde, which are often included in various drugs. Household detergents have the same negative impact on nails - even harmless dishwashing gel can significantly worsen the condition of nails.

Another reason for nail breakage is untimely correction. So, a woman should renew her nails under gel at least once every four weeks, but if she delays visiting the nail technician, then, accordingly, the nails quickly become unusable, grow longer, the corners become dull, and cracks form.

Using a tea bag or silk

This method is suitable for cases where the nail is broken at the edge, at the “smile” level. To seal a broken nail with a tea bag, prepare the following tools:

  • a file with fine abrasive;
  • buff for polishing;
  • special nail glue;
  • a piece of silk or paper from a tea bag;
  • disinfectant;
  • orange stick.

First, treat the plate with a disinfectant to avoid infection. Clean the damaged area with a nail file. The result should be a smooth surface. Cut 2 pieces of material. The first should cover the area of the crack and around it, and the second should cover the entire nail.

Apply a thin layer of glue to the damaged area and place a small piece of material on top. Press it with an orange stick and then apply glue to the patch. Take the buff and polish the surface. Don't rush, otherwise you may tear the fabric. Repeat the procedure, but this time cover the entire nail with the tea bag. To consolidate the result, you can duplicate the last step.

Steps

Long-term repair

    Remove nail polish.

    If there is polish on your nail, you need to wash it off first. Dampen a cotton pad or soft cloth with nail polish remover (if the polish is dark or glittery, use an acetone-based liquid) and gently wipe the surface of the nail. Rub along the crack to prevent the nail from tearing further.

    Sand and smooth the nail.

    Gently straighten the edges of the nail using the fine-grit side of a four-sided nail file (still work along the crack). In the future, you will apply a special material (patch) to the nail bed, so the surface of the nail should be perfectly smooth. Take a file with a fairly coarse grit (100-240 grit is suitable) and go over the entire surface of the nail so that there are no sagging marks left on it.

  • Be careful and don't press too hard, otherwise you will damage the nail plate.
  • Prepare a patch.

    The choice of material depends on many factors, including the materials available, the quality of your nails and how often you work with your hands. You can use silk, fiberglass, cloth or empty tea bags. Start by cutting out a rectangle to fit your nail. If you are using a tea bag, cut off the top and shake out the tea. Then carefully trim the material on the sides so that it does not come into contact with the skin at the edges of the nail, and trim it to length so that it covers half of the nail and protrudes forward a few millimeters.

    Seal the gap.

    Apply one drop of nail glue on top of the break and the other below it. Never use super glue that is not intended for living tissue. Use a toothpick or cuticle stick to spread the glue over the crack. Press the stick onto your nail and hold for 30-40 seconds until the glue sets. However, do not press the stick for too long, otherwise it may stick to the glue. The glue will dry completely in about two minutes.

    Glue the patch on.

    Apply a coat of polish base to your nail and immediately apply a patch. Make sure that the patch extends a few millimeters beyond the edge of the nail and covers approximately half of the nail bed. Press the patch with your finger to remove any bubbles or wrinkles. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for it to dry. If you use a tea bag (which is a very popular material), it will become translucent.

    Trim and file the edge of the patch.

    Use a nail clipper or nail scissors to trim off any excess material at the end of the nail. Using a stiff file (such as 100-240 grit), carefully sand the outer edge of the nail, the edges of the patch where it meets the nail bed, and the center of the patch. Then go over the top with a fine-grain file to smooth the surface.

  • Try to move along the crack.
  • Apply another coat of base coat and then the polish itself.

    After sanding your nail thoroughly, wash your finger to remove any dust or bits of patch material. Dry your finger with a clean towel before applying another coat of foundation. Wait two minutes and cover the nail with two coats of polish. Each layer needs at least two minutes to dry. Finally, apply a protective coat to seal the varnish.

    • The protective coating will prevent the varnish from chipping right away, which will allow the patch to work longer. If you use too much nail polish remover (whether with or without acetone), the patch will wash off or become dislodged.
    • If you decide to use nail glue, it will last longer and can withstand non-acetone nail polish remover even with frequent use. However, with an acetone-based liquid, the patch will wash off faster, so use this liquid as little as possible.

  • Temporary solution

    1. Remove the varnish.

      First, remove any coating from the nail so that the damage can be assessed and repaired. Use suitable nail polish remover. For example, if you have dark or glittery nail polish, you will need an acetone-based liquid. Dampen a cotton ball, pad or cloth with the liquid and wipe the polish in the direction of the crack to prevent it from getting bigger.

      • It is not recommended to use acetone-based liquid as it dries out your nails and makes them more brittle. This liquid should not be used to remove polish from acrylic nails and other artificial surfaces.
    2. Cut a small piece of tape and shape it into your nail.

      Use nail scissors or small sewing scissors. You can hold the tape with pliers. Most likely, you will not be able to achieve the ideal shape: just try to cut a piece that will be slightly smaller than the nail plate and will not touch the cuticle and skin along the edges of the nail. Make the strip of tape a little longer so that it extends beyond the edge of the nail.

      Apply tape to your nail.

      Apply the tape to the nail plate with your fingers or tweezers. Use the pad of your finger to press the tape onto your nail and smooth it out to remove any bubbles or wrinkles.

      Align the edges.

      Use scissors or nail clippers to trim off any excess tape around the edge. Then lightly sand the edge of the nail with a fine-grit nail file in the direction of the crack to remove any excess tape. Run your nail under cold running water to remove any dust or tape residue, and wipe it off with a clean cloth.

      Apply a coat of varnish.

      This is not necessary, but it is useful, especially if you do not have a more reliable way to fix your nail. Apply 1-2 coats of polish and a topcoat or base coat to the nail. Allow your nails to dry for at least two minutes between coats. If all your other nails are painted, paint the damaged nail as well. To check if your nails are dry, hold them to your lips and if the coating is cool and not sticky, then it is completely dry.

      Remove the tape.

      When you're ready to remove the tape, soak a cotton pad in acetone nail polish remover, hold it to your finger for about a minute to saturate the tape, then straighten your finger and gently pull the tape along the crack. Perhaps the tape will come off on its own when you wash off the polish.

      Easy nail preservation

      Prepare your nail.

      Remove the polish with a cotton pad or cloth soaked in nail polish remover. Move along the crack so that it doesn't get bigger. If the polish is very dark or glittery, use an acetone-based liquid. After this, carefully process the edge of the nail with the softer side of the four-sided file. Be careful not to touch the crack and don't move the nail file too hard.

      Apply nail glue or super glue to the crack.

      Both glues spread quickly, so use a small amount. Bring the nail pieces together and apply one drop of glue on the crack and the other under it. Using a toothpick or cuticle stick, spread the glue evenly along the crack on both sides. Then use a toothpick or stick to hold the nail for 30-40 seconds to allow the glue to set.

      • Hold the nail long enough for the glue to set, but do not overdo it, otherwise it will stick to the toothpick or stick, and when you try to tear it off, the nail will come apart again.
      • The glue will not withstand several treatments with nail polish remover with acetone, so you will have to reapply it each time.

    3. Apply a nail file to the glue and nail.

      Let the glue dry (it should cool and not be sticky). Since the glue does not form a smooth surface with the nail, you will need to file it with the hard side of a nail file (100-240 grit) to even out the surface. Then use a fine-grit file to sand down the edges until the glue becomes invisible.

      • Pay special attention to the edges - they should not protrude above the skin. This will prevent the crack from spreading, and it will not be so noticeable.
    4. Clean the nail.

      To remove the glue around your nail, soak a cotton pad or cotton swab in acetone nail polish remover and press it onto the glue. When the glue is saturated with liquid, it will dissolve. After this, wipe the nail with a clean cloth. If the glue is not washed off, do not tear it off with your hands. Take some nail polish remover and do it all over again. To remove nail glue, soak your nail and other areas of skin that have been exposed to glue in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes. Carefully remove the softened glue from the skin or nail. If the glue stain does not come off, carefully file it down, then apply nail polish remover with a cotton pad or cotton swab, hold for a couple of minutes and wipe dry.

    Using tips

    You can also use tips to fix a broken nail at home. It is better to purchase transparent or translucent square-shaped products. In addition to them, you will need special glue, a nail file, scissors and nail polish remover.

    First of all, remove all roughness in the damaged area and degrease the nail with nail polish remover. Apply glue to the entire plate and the inner surface of the tip. Place the product on the nail so that the stop matches the edge. Let the glue dry for a couple of minutes, and then cut the tips with scissors to the shape of the rest of your nails, it is better to leave a little length for adjustment. Treat the resulting nail with a nail file, and for greater reliability, coat the joints with glue.

    What will you need?

    Of course, you can’t do without the main “character” - the tea bag. In addition, it is worth keeping on hand:

    • nail polish remover;
    • clear and colored varnish;
    • tweezers;
    • orange cuticle stick or toothpick;
    • thick base for manicure or special glue for nail repair;
    • sanding buffer (if you don’t have one, a regular nail file will do);
    • scissors;
    • top coating.

    If you use varnish and other materials that do not dry in air, you will also need a special lamp.

    Temporary fixation

    If your nail breaks at work, where you don’t have the necessary tools and supplies, you can patch it up a little. Remember that the gluing procedure will need to be continued at home as soon as possible. This method involves using regular tape. Cut a piece of adhesive tape slightly larger than the crack and cover your nail with it. Smooth the surface in the direction of the nail break. Remove excess tape with scissors and iron everything again. This procedure will prevent further damage for several hours.

    Type repair

    This type of repair is also a kind of nail extension at home. It is very easy to learn and very affordable; tips are sold in any cosmetics and manicure store. However, you should choose them carefully. Roughness, pimples, mold marks and other defects are not allowed. The best way is to buy tips in plastic packages with divisions for different sizes. This way, you can easily fix any nail.

    Like all other restoration methods, we start with stripping and degreasing. However, now the broken nail needs to be trimmed with nail scissors and a file so that the tip fits tightly to the healthy nail. By the way, the tips also need to be degreased for better gluing.

    Next, as always, apply a layer of glue to the nail itself and to the inside of the tip, carefully apply the tip and level it along the edge of the nail until it fits tightly into place.

    After the glue has dried, apply an additional layer of glue to the inner part of the joint between the nail and the tip, as well as to the outer joint. For greater effect, you can put a piece of fabric on the outer layer, thereby additionally gluing the tip and nail.

    At the end, we polish the glue, trim the tips to the desired length, in accordance with the other nails, and cover with varnish.

    Of course, physical damage to your nails is inevitable, especially if you are the lucky owner of long nails. However, nail breakage is not always accompanied by physical force or careless actions. Often, the problem is much deeper. As a rule, a fragile nail structure is the result of failure to comply with several simple factors that promote the growth and strength of nails.

    Lack of vitamins and minerals is a very common problem, especially in the autumn-winter periods. They can be supplemented based on knowledge of what depends on what.

    • Vitamins A and B: these are vitamins that directly affect the growth and health of bones, nails, hair, the formation of new cells, and Vitamin A directly significantly slows down aging. A high content of these vitamins is observed in liver, butter, and egg whites. Also in red, green and yellow vegetables (tomatoes, cabbage, greens, carrots);
    • Calcium: An essential mineral for bones, teeth and nails. Found in dairy products, nuts, beans, peas and oatmeal.
    • Silicon: one of the most important elements. Promotes better absorption of calcium, stimulates the immune system. Contained in such products as: brown bread, onions, herbs, potatoes, bell peppers, beets, and also in excess in seafood.

    Insufficient care is a common occurrence at the current pace of life. But there are several recipes that require a minimum of time, but bring a lot of effect.

    Moisturizing the skin around the nails. This is a very important stage that should not be neglected. The skin around your nails is like soil for plants. It determines how beautiful the “flower” will grow. Various creams and natural oils are mainly used for moisturizing.

    Particular attention should be paid to the cuticle, since this part of the skin is prone to dryness and cracking. Nail baths also help soften the skin and improve blood circulation in the nail area. Weekly use for 10-15 minutes will help you achieve the desired result.

    The most effective baths are those based on essential oils. They are very simple to prepare, just add a few drops of oil to warm water (40-45*) along with ordinary oils (chamomile, calendula, avocado, almond, wheat germ, etc.) The comfortable shape of the nail also contributes to their long term health. To give the correct and convenient shape, it is better to refuse to use metal files and give preference to plastic, glass or paper files.

    Repairing a broken nail

    If the nail was seriously damaged in the area of the bed, you will have to remove it and forget about a long manicure for a while. Remove the broken piece using nail scissors and tweezers. Stop bleeding by applying pressure to the wound with a cotton ball or bandage. Then take the nail scissors again and carefully trim off the sharp edges. Remember: if you experience severe pain, it is better to seek medical help immediately.

    If inflammation, swelling, heat or itching occurs after damaging the nail, you should consult a doctor.

    Soak the injured finger in a container of cold water for about 20 minutes. The bath will relieve pain and prevent re-bleeding. After this, mix 1 tsp. salt with 4 glasses of warm water and put your hand in the solution for 20 minutes. This is necessary for disinfection. Blot the affected area with a cotton cloth and apply antibiotic ointment. Apply a bandage that will need to be changed daily as the nail grows. In the first 72 hours, carefully monitor the condition of the wound and take salt baths. If the wound becomes inflamed, itchy, hot, or swollen, consult a doctor.

    Wee-wee-wee-wee! Disperse, comrades, don't crowd, don't see the girl in a semi-fainting state. She needs air. A broken nail is no joke. No, hospitalization will not be required. The situation can be corrected on the spot. This is an ambulance!

    So, what to do in an emergency if your nail is broken? How to correct the situation and fix it at home? The professionals speak!

    Options

    Manicure with inscriptions - tips on choosing a color, inscription style, design ideas

    There are folk signs: if a nail breaks, for example, on the ring finger, a woman will receive good news. A broken nail on one of the index fingers means inevitable difficulties in love. However, the fair sex is primarily concerned not with signs, but with the fact that the manicure is ruined. How to restore a broken plate?

    It is better to simply cut off a severely damaged tip. However, you will have to trim the nails on all fingers to make the manicure look beautiful and neat.

    What to do if you want to keep your nail completely? If the plate is broken no more than 1/3, it can be repaired. However, even with careful handling, the restored manicure will not last more than 2-3 days. To fix a nail on your right hand if you have no experience, it is better to use outside help.

    If the plate is severely damaged, broken at the root, and the skin under its edge is visible, you will not be able to restore the nail yourself, since an infection can get into the open wound. In this case, you should immediately contact a specialist.

    Initial examination

    First, the victim must be carefully examined in order to understand the scale of the tragedy. Depending on the location of the injury and the extent of the damage, the treatment method is selected. We need to come to an agreement right away. A case with a complication. For example, if the nail is half broken. If the crack is such that the nail bed is damaged, blood is oozing, the plate has moved away from the “meat,” then under no circumstances should anything be glued. Repairs can only be carried out if the nail itself is damaged, without consequences for the “skin and meat”. There are no photos of such cases here, because the spectacle is not for the faint of heart.

    If such a problem occurs, then rinse your finger with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with a band-aid. Next - nails in the hand and cheerfully, cheerfully, to the nearest hospital. Russian maybe, whatever you say, it’s an effective amulet, but it doesn’t happen once in a while. For the girl Tanya, everything healed, but for the girl Dasha, dirt got in and inflammation began. No one is immune from complications. Although the manicure process will be simplified. You will need to paint one less finger. And forever. Doctors are like that, don’t feed me bread, let me cut something off. Okay, a joke of humor, but black. But, unfortunately, it is vital.

    Method #2: Cellophane

    Using cellophane is similar to the tea bag method in that it secures the nail along the crack so you can do a manicure.

    • Remove nail polish.
    • Clean the affected nail with rubbing alcohol.
    • Place the cellophane over the nail, starting at the nail bed.
    • Gently spread nail glue over the top of the cellophane, completely covering the nail.
    • Dip your nail into a special powder.
    • Carefully remove excess powder.
    • Repeat steps 4 to 6.
    • Trim off any excess cellophane that hangs over the end of the nail.
    • Create the nail of the desired shape.
    • Carefully file away any uneven surface areas.
    • Apply makeup as usual!

    Little nothings of life

    The simplest situation is if the nail is broken on the side. It was cracked, slightly broken, there were no more casualties, the skin was intact and unharmed. It’s unpleasant, it clings to hair and clothes and tends to fall off completely.

    There is an exit. “We’ll glue it, gentlemen,” the doctors said. High-quality repairs will extend the life of an injured patient by one to two weeks. Then look at the circumstances. Either trim the overgrown nail or repeat the repair. Providing first aid to the victim: watch, learn, remember!

    Method #3: False nails

    If you break a nail, sometimes the easiest solution is to put acrylic nails on top. You can purchase such sets at any store.

    • Remove polish from your nails.
    • Lightly spread glue over the entire surface of the nail.
    • Press down on the acrylic nail, covering the entire surface.
    • Let dry.
    • Apply varnish as usual.

    However, do not forget that wearing false nails is harmful to your health. Therefore, use this option as an emergency measure when you need to wait two to three days before you can see a specialist.

    Preparing for surgery

    You will need a certain set of tools:

    • disinfectant, degreasing cleaner or alcohol;
    • manicure scissors;
    • polishing buffer from 240 grit;
    • a rough file, 180 grit is quite suitable;
    • glue for nail design, tips;
    • material for repair.

    Now about textile matters. There is a special adhesive-based silk on sale. The price did not go far from the glue. For example, a whole meter of such silk 3 cm wide from RuNail costs 90 rubles. This amount can be used to repair your nails for a year. Or to all the neighbors in the house, at least in the entrance. Or. Well, you get the idea. This bandage is universal; you can put regular and gel polish, acrylic or gel on top.

    If you don’t have silk at hand, and repairs are needed here and now, you can go to the kitchen and look for a tea bag. Shake the tea into a mug and cut a piece of the required size from the bag. A good alternative to silk.

    Needlewomen can try using non-woven fabric and any fabrics similar in structure to it. For example, there are medical patches with this texture, on a breathable woven base. A regular rubberized plaster will not work.

    Seal your nails at home

    One of the most popular “salon” services includes nail sealing. The problem of a fragile, brittle and peeling nail structure is known to many modern girls. Despite the fact that everyone understands the reason for this negative process, not everyone is able to stop it.

    Today, from the wide list of services of many beauty salons, nail sealing also includes additional services: applying various creams, masks with a vitamin complex and using baths. But can't all this be done at home?

    Sealing nails, both at home and in a beauty salon, involves applying a medicated paste that contains minerals necessary for the nail, pearl chips, and calcium ceramides.

    Previously, such a paste was prepared from “improvised” materials, but today the modern requirements of many consumers have “forced” manufacturers to launch a new product on the market, so it is available for free sale in many cosmetic stores - this is one of the most compelling arguments for performing the indicated procedure at home conditions. Before applying the medicinal paste, the nail is leveled and polished with a fine-grain file or polishing buffer, after which it is necessary to polish with beeswax or paraffin.

    To do this, take one of the manicure tools (a pusher or a bunch of orange sticks are great) and cover it with natural calfskin. As you may have guessed, a piece of paraffin or beeswax is rubbed into the nail structure with a calfskin stick until the horny plate becomes denser (the paraffin layer should be evenly distributed over the entire plane of the nail).

    Having done this, wrap your fingers in cling film for 20-30 minutes, after which the remaining paste is washed off with water at room temperature.

    Now you can forget about fragility and brittleness for at least 1 month - isn’t this a full-fledged “home” nail service?

    Repair (extension) of nails with base

    The base will need to be thick - or. I used the second one from Nogtika (its review is also on the blog). You can try with a thick top, but still this is contact with the natural nail, so a base is better.

    To demonstrate the whole process more clearly, I made a video that describes step by step how to repair a nail using a gel polish base.

    The repair algorithm is as follows:

    1. First, we file the chip a little to make its edges smoother.
    2. Next, degrease the entire surface of the nail, and especially carefully the end on the chip.
    3. Apply to the nail and the contact area of the chip.
    4. Next, using a thin brush, apply the base to the end of the chip with a thread and immediately dry it. In an LED lamp, 10 seconds is enough - there is very little material.
    5. We repeat the process by analogy until it is restored. I needed 6 layers of strips for this. With an intermediate drying time of 10 seconds, it literally takes 3 minutes.
    6. Now it is necessary to level the extended piece with the same base, both from the outside and from the inside, since it turns out to be a little lumpy.
    7. Next, you can apply the base to the entire surface of the nail. I decided to do this in two stages. Apply a thin layer first, then file away all the irregularities on the extended piece, and do the second.
    8. Done, you can apply gel polish and even .

    My goal with this type of repair is to allow the nail to grow enough to be able to match the rest of the nails without sacrificing their length. That is, two weeks are enough for this. As practice has shown, with such a repair you can wear gel polish for longer, but I already wanted to update the color and cut off the regrown length.

    Photo of the nail after 2 weeks:

    That's all, but I'll show you a design with this color in a separate article. See you later!

    Long, well-groomed nails are always beautiful. Although not very convenient. With a short manicure, everyday life is easier, and care for it is not so scrupulous. But no matter how long her fingernails are, no woman can be sure that one of them won’t break at some point. It's offensive, unpleasant, sometimes very painful... And most importantly - how to fix a broken nail without compromising your manicure? Is it possible and in what way to solve the problem on my own?

    How to seal a crack with fiberglass nails?

    If you are proficient in manicure techniques, or have some minimal experience in working with gel polishes, and have an ultraviolet lamp available, then repairing the crack will be much easier and faster. To do this, you can use both a special tool and improvised items. The ideal option is to use fiberglass. This is a popular product that is now back in trend.

    Instructions on how to seal a crack with fiberglass nails:

    • With its help, you can not only build up and strengthen the nail, but also close the crack and prevent further damage to the nail. Most often, cracks form in the zone of transition of the free edge to the nail bed; they can be quite painful, even along the flesh.
    • In this case, it is better not to delay the repair or completely cut off the nail at the root, and seal it as soon as possible. For these purposes, the coating is removed from the nail, the plate is degreased, and a thin layer of base is applied. You need to take the fiberglass, coat the nail with the base again and place pieces of fiberglass on it so that they lie across the crack. In general, repairs resemble those carried out using cotton wool fibers.
    • Only in this case, fiberglass is used, it is much stronger and has reinforcing properties. The possibility that a fiberglass-reinforced nail will soon break is almost zero. Next, you need to apply a leveling layer of base to hide the pieces of fiberglass and make the nail even. After this, you can apply a decorative coating.

    Severe injuries, when the edge of the nail plate protruding beyond the bed is torn off at the root, right down to the meat, rarely occur. Much more often you have to deal with the problem of a nail cracked on the side, which is not so painful, but extremely unpleasant.

    It doesn’t matter whether there is a breakdown on the working right or left hand - the damaged nail is very annoying, clings to clothes, tights, hair, scratches the skin... When the situation is not critical, there is no need to be puzzled by the question of what to do if, and make a tragedy out of it. This is just a reason to update your manicure!

    Analyzing the situation

    Breakage of the nail plate is an unpleasant moment that can happen at any second. The chipped area causes a lot of inconvenience and does not look aesthetically pleasing. It gets caught on clothes, especially offensively on new nylon tights or stockings, which will have large arrows on them. The mood and the thing are irrevocably spoiled. Sometimes this process is accompanied not only by discomfort, but also by pain.

    Before repairing, you need to determine the type of damage, whether it is completely torn off or slightly, slightly cracked. Further actions depend on this.

    • Slightly cracked at the edge or along the smile line

    A common option that can be eliminated at home. The problem area must be fixed with a specially designed patch, following the steps of the procedure.

    • Broken off completely or cracked in the middle

    In the proposed case, only gluing tips, an artificial material based on acrylic, will help. It is recommended to contact a specialist.

    • Broke down to "meat"

    An unpleasant moment that requires the intervention of a specialist. The area must be immediately treated with an antiseptic. Chlorhexidine, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, brilliant green, potassium permanganate, and furatsilin solution are suitable. It is recommended to regularly inspect and treat the damaged area to prevent infection.

    Start repairs after the wound has healed! Use only special professional biogel containing proteins to restore the structure of the nail plate and protect the wound site from infections.

    • The extension was damaged

    Acrylic tips do not have a natural structure; to repair, you can use synthetic glue, for example, “Moment” superglue for plastic. Bonding materials and technology are standard, as when a crack forms on a natural surface.

    A nail is broken in half, what to do, how to fix it at home

    ? Start repairing immediately! Repair of a small crack, up to 1/3 of the length of the plate, is pleasing with long-lasting results. Otherwise, the result after the procedure will be short-lived.

    Precautionary measures:

    • It is prohibited to glue a natural nail with synthetic superglue. The aggressive chemical composition will corrode and destroy living cells, making the situation worse. Synthetics are suitable for artificially extended tips.
    • If a wound forms, it is not recommended to use nail polish remover. Chemical solutions will negatively affect the healing of the abrasion. In such a situation, it is recommended to leave the damaged surface at rest, cut off the remaining nails to give an aesthetic appearance and begin treatment.
    • It is not recommended to delay repairs. A crack can cause breakage or make the problem worse by damaging soft tissue, creating a painful scratch.

    “Healing” a crack along the smile line

    The first thought that comes to mind, if the nail is broken just a little, is to glue the plate at the site of damage. Indeed, doing this at home is not so problematic. But under no circumstances should you use superglue, Moment, or any other household adhesive intended for repairing artificial materials.

    The nail plate is alive. The maximum that can be achieved by trying to “heal” it in such a barbaric way is to damage it so badly that the entire nail, along with the underlying soft tissues, will have to be saved and treated. To seal, you need to use a special glue that will not cause harm to the nail.

    In addition to glue, to implement your plan you will need:

    • antiseptic;
    • file with abrasive coating up to 240 units;
    • buff sanding file;
    • soft thin fabric;
    • toothpick.

    An antiseptic is necessary to disinfect the area of nail injury. Even if the damage is minor, the nail is not torn down to the flesh, it will not harm to disinfect it to avoid possible infection.

    The most convenient fabric to carefully seal a cracked nail is cotton, silk, thin linen or fiberglass.

    As an alternative, and the most affordable and budget-friendly one, you can repair the nail plate with a tea bag, cutting off a miniature piece of the desired size from it.

    What to do if the patch is very noticeable

    If the repair is carried out carelessly, there is a risk that the area where the tea bag is fixed will be noticeable. This happens when choosing a thick base for manipulation or improperly securing it with glue (especially when working with the entire nail).

    To prevent the damage site from being noticeable, you need to use a file to polish the side cuts or top surface, as well as a buff - it polishes the nail, carefully smoothing out the transition.

    To mask the problem, it is recommended to use visual tricks:

    1. Creating a color gradient (smooth transition from one shade to another).
    2. Fixing three-dimensional decor: rhinestones, sparkles, beads.
    3. Using shiny, colorful products.
    4. Applying drawings to the plate.

    Stages of gluing a broken nail

    Let's look at what to do if a nail is broken, in case you can seal it at home. The procedure is as follows:

    1. The polish is washed off from the nail plate.
    2. Treat thoroughly with a disinfectant.
    3. The area around the crack is cleaned with a soft file, directing movements from the base of the nail plate to the edge.
    4. Cut out a small patch from the selected material (thin fabric, tea bag). The size of the patch should be larger than the crack by a maximum of 3-4 mm.
    5. They try on the patch. If necessary, adjust the size.
    6. Exactly in the middle of the tear, drop a drop of glue and carefully distribute it along the entire length of the crack, slightly extending beyond the edges of the place where the nail broke.
    7. The patch is applied to the damaged area, leveled with a toothpick (orange stick), and pressed tightly. The next stage of repair can begin when the glue is completely dry - after 2-3 minutes.
    8. The surface and edges of the patch are sanded with buff. Ideally, the tissue should completely merge with the nail plate and not protrude above it as a lump.
    9. In order for the repair to be of high quality, it is advisable to repeat the manipulation of the patch twice. That is, glue another one, but a little larger in size, on top of an already fixed piece of fabric (tea bag).
    10. After the second layer has dried, the patch is sanded with buff in the same way.
    11. All that remains is to polish the nail and coat it with varnish.

    If a low bump remains on the damaged area, it’s not a big deal. Firstly, if everything is done well, it will practically not be visible. Secondly, after covering the nail with varnish, the lift will not be visually noticeable at all.

    Prevention measures

    To minimize the likelihood of such an unpleasant problem as nail breakage, you need to follow simple preventive measures.

    • Contact a specialist in a timely manner and carry out corrections; do not delay visiting the nail salon. If painting is carried out at home, then the varnish also needs to be updated on time, do not apply a new coating to the old one, but completely remove the paint before applying a new varnish.
    • Dehydration often leads to brittle nail plates, so it is important to drink enough fluids to prevent this problem.
    • You should protect your hands from exposure to harmful chemicals and bad water, and also reduce mechanical stress as much as possible. When washing dishes, washing floors and performing other types of cleaning, you must wear gloves on your hands.
    • Household varnish should be removed with a special product that does not contain acetone.
    • You should not bite off or tear off hangnails - they should be removed with special forceps. When processing the edge of the nail, you need to hold the file at a right angle.
    • It is important to reconsider your diet. To strengthen the nail plate, you need to consume foods that contain vitamins A, E, D, calcium and phosphorus.

    What could be worse than breaking a nail before an important event, especially if you don’t have the time or money to go to a salon to get it fixed up? It’s even more unpleasant if this happened after you’ve been growing your nails for a long time and diligently. If a chip, crack or delamination affects not only the edge, but also the main part of the nail plate, it is also very painful. However, there are ways to fix the situation yourself (quickly and safely, temporarily or for a longer period) until the nail grows to the length you want.
