You can make a stylish piece of furniture from an old frying pan: result (photo)

Good afternoon - today I start new series of articles on crafts for the kitchen... We will start with the simplest idea - and today we will paint frying pans. Moreover, this is an excellent opportunity to extend the life of a burnt-out frying pan with a damaged Teflon coating. This used frying pan can be used as a kitchen decoration. A beautiful craft for the kitchen can hang separately on the wall... or you can surround it with a flock of plates on the walls... you can beautifully decorate such a wall by nailing narrow shelves next to it and placing ceramics and frames. I have prepared several ideas for interesting crafts that will decorate the walls of your kitchen. Let's start making original crafts for the kitchen with our own hands.

Let me show you 3 ideas to make things interesting right away . Let's start with ideas for high-tech kitchens...

Here is a craft idea for a blue kitchen…. Careless graphics with rough strokes... It’s hard to call it a craft made from a frying pan - this is already a work of art.

Or here’s an idea for a craft for the kitchen in lilac tones... A schematic, laconic technique... an outline outline. Clear smooth lines, pure rich colors. This frying pan will become an eye-catching decoration on the kitchen wall...

If our kitchen is in a cozy classic style, then a woman’s head in the spirit of the same times will suit us... Like in the photo below - a Greek woman’s head with curls of hair

perfectly intertwined with the same smooth
curls on the kitchen facades
in the same light shade as the portrait itself. This frying pan craft can become a rare decoration on the wall of any kitchen.

Here is another theme for wall decoration. Tableware theme... Endless scope for imagination. If you have a kitchen in beige and chocolate tones, then the pattern on the frying pan may be similar to the traditional graphics made with a chocolate outline on an aged beige-bluish background.

I’m already specially selecting a series of such ideas for kitchen crafts in the dishes theme from old frying pans.

from an old frying pan for a beige kitchen...

Often beige tones in the kitchen are combined with a soft blue palette... and then the drawing on the frying pan can be done in the same tones... Ideas for thematic drawings can be found on the Internet and painted in exactly the same colors as the kitchen... That's how the idea with this bird – delicate pattern and delicate color.

Or the beige color in the kitchen is often combined with contrasting bright red... And then these same tones will be asked to decorate the wall - and then you can use them in a simple drawing on a frying pan...

Agree, even a child can draw such curlicues of flowers and butterflies. A simple kitchen craft that the whole family can do.

And if you want to give such a frying pan to your newlywed friends , then let the wall be decorated with a beautiful wedding motif... Here is a ready-made idea for decorating a beige kitchen...

Or these simple stencil ideas for crafts for the kitchen... the contours of the newlyweds don’t even have to be drawn - you can simply cut them out of black adhesive film... and stick them on a frying pan... (we first paint the frying pan white)

But the ideas of lovers are in white, black and red colors. Choose any sweet couple and draw a craft for the kitchen on a white background of a frying pan for your own pleasure. One after another, the frying pans will become unusable and over time, the walls of your kitchen will be hung with a whole row of frying pans with happy inseparable ones.

And of course, such craft pans can be given to friends on Valentine’s Day...

Primary processing

Once the oil and grease have been cleaned off, you need to remove the handle. A screwdriver will be useful for this, and the joint will need to be additionally sanded. You will also need:

The doctor spoke about the expiration dates of antiseptics

Big mistake of believers: what people often do wrong on Parents' Day

Anabolic State: Defining Common Fitness Terms

  • drill;
  • cup brush;
  • sandpaper.

Using a wire brush, you can easily remove the paint coating on the outside and the non-stick coating on the inside. You don't need to be too zealous, just get to the metal.

Now you can take some coarse sandpaper and manually go over the areas with remaining paint. The result is an amazing silver disc that is resistant to temperature changes, strong impacts, and the effects of time.

Frying pans on the kitchen wall - for Valentine's Day

And this is where you can show your imagination by digging through the RuNet and finding ideas for kitchen crafts among ordinary pictures or postcards.

Or a heart made of flowers ... It will amazingly decorate the kitchen wall in pink tones... And if your kitchen is not pink, then the flowers can be decorated in other colors.

Even a black bouquet against the background of the white surface of a frying pan will look amazing and stylish... especially if your kitchen already has a black hood... or a black marble countertop...

Flower stands

It's easy to make a beautiful and functional multi-level flower stand out of several rusty frying pans.

At the same time, it is not at all necessary to select pans of the same diameter - such a stand will look very unusual and extravagant in any case. If you place it on your summer cottage, you are guaranteed visits from neighbors throughout the summer!

We decorate the kitchen walls with a Khokhloma frying pan.

It is better to paint such a design on a black frying pan - that is, cover the entire frying pan with black paint and after the paint has dried, draw the pattern.

You can drill a hole in the center of a painted frying pan and glue a clock mechanism to the bottom (get it from an old watch or buy it at a craft and hand-made store - it’s cheap).

Rarity

Frying pans, pots and cutlery that were purchased a long time ago can be valuable as rarities. Some instruments were previously made of silver. Dishes, sets and other parts of kitchen appliances sometimes cost considerable sums and are valued as antiques.

Everything has its use. You don't have to throw away old kitchen utensils or leaky containers. If you wish and use the right approach, you can use them to make interesting little things and even useful things around the house.

Collectible value of old frying pans

Domestic products of Soviet and modern production are unlikely to attract the attention of collectors. But samples of our pre-revolutionary, European, American and, especially, Asian industry of the past decades are well valued at thematic auctions and simple advertising platforms like Avito. For example, a 19th century frying pan made in the USA that is in good condition can be sold to a private collection for $20-$50.

The cost of some Chinese and Japanese copies sometimes reaches $1000 or more. Frying pans from Tsarist Russia are cheaper, and rarely sell for more than $10-20, but this is in any way better than giving the dishes to a scrap metal buyer for pennies. Before posting such an ad, you need to inspect the product and look for:

  • manufacturer's marking;
  • factory marks;
  • release dates.

Well, then everything is simple - the photos are posted on the site, and a buyer is expected.

Cleaning a Cast Iron Frying Pan

Cast iron pans that are smoked black take a long time to clean. There is no hope for quick results. But you can use even the most extreme methods.

Before you clean the pan from carbon deposits, stock up on scrapers and a wire brush

Almost any attempt to clean carbon deposits requires physical effort. So you will need a stainless kitchen scraper and gloves. Some gloves are thick rubber, the other will help withstand high temperatures. In addition, you have to scrape off the carbon deposits, so you will need a knife and a spatula.

A universal option for cleaning a frying pan inside and out is to boil it in an alkaline solution

This method works when the alkali concentration is sufficient. For a good effect, add the ingredients according to the recipe (we are talking about quantities). This method can be used to clean cast iron and aluminum pans without a non-stick coating .

An alkali solution will help dissolve old carbon deposits

Use home remedies that are alkaline. Here are two “working” compositions:

  1. For 8-10 liters of water we take:
      200 grams of 72% laundry soap;
  2. 500 grams of soda ash;
  3. 200 ml silicate glue.
  4. For 5-6 liters of water we take:
      silicate glue 100 grams;
  5. 100 grams of mustard powder;
  6. 100 grams of soda ash.

Mustard dissolves fats well.
During heat treatment, it can dissolve carbon deposits and heated fat inside and outside the frying pan. These methods of cleaning carbon deposits from a frying pan are often called “Soviet” because this was done back in Soviet times. They have been tested over the years and work exactly. But be prepared for the fact that there will be a black coating in the pits and scratches. It can only be removed by sanding. And not manually.

You can use baking soda instead of soda ash, but the result will be worse.

We clean carbon deposits from heated dishes. Fat is removed easily. To avoid getting burned, wear thick gloves. Cooled carbon deposits come off worse. So while cleaning is not completed, let the solution boil. Periodically immerse the pan in the solution, boil for 5 minutes, and clean again.

Digestion order

The following recipes contain soda ash or baking soda. It is usually added to the solution last. Pour in a little at a time, waiting for the reaction to pass (foam rises). When the foam subsides, you can lower the pan into the solution.

The cleansing took 12 hours, but only 2 hours of active work. An hour of boiling, then 10 hours of soaking in the solution and an hour of cleaning off undissolved carbon deposits

In general, the procedure for removing carbon deposits from frying pans is as follows:

  1. In a large enamel/stainless steel bowl (bucket or pan), bring water to a boil.
  2. Add ingredients without soda, stir until completely dissolved.
  3. Pour in soda little by little, stir each portion and wait for the reaction to complete.
  4. Place a cast iron frying pan, cauldron or saucepan into the boiling solution.

Boil the pan for 30 minutes to several hours. Depends on the thickness of the deposit. After boiling, you can leave the dishes in the solution for several hours. Where the layer is small, it dissolves completely; where it was thick, you will have to remove it with a knife/spatula, then clean it with a scraper.

The carbon deposits gradually dissolve, but you still need to clean them with a scraper.

The same method is suitable for aluminum alloy pans and enamel cookware. But there are important points: the frying pan must not have a non-stick coating, and the enamel must not be chipped .

You can see several recipes with onions, apples and potato peels and the results with them in the video. Interesting experiments and their results.

How to remove carbon deposits from a frying pan without boiling

There are more modern options - for example, a mixture of Coca-Cola and citric acid. You need stainless steel cookware - the composition is caustic. A drink is poured into it, 100 grams of citric acid are added to 4 liters. Pour lemon juice in small portions, waiting for the reaction to complete.

Coca-Cola can also be used to remove carbon deposits from a frying pan.

There is no need to boil, just leave the dishes in the solution (soak). Check its condition periodically - the carbon deposits will dissolve. Be careful: not all alloys and materials tolerate this composition normally. If you see color changes or cavities appear, remove the dishes and rinse under running water.

Burn off carbon deposits from a cast iron frying pan

Carbon deposits on a cast iron frying pan or saucepan can be cleaned off with fire - burned. If the handles are wooden or plastic, they must be removed. You need to put the pan on the fire and wait until the soot begins to fall off. At first it fumes and smokes, then it hardens and begins to fall off. It takes a lot of time to cleanse. You can speed up the process by running a knife blade across the carbon deposits. Don't scrape, but just swipe. Pieces of blackness fly off, revealing metal.

You should not fire a frying pan indoors because there will be a lot of smoke. The exception is if you have a fireplace with good draft. You can throw a cast iron frying pan into it and wait for it to clean.

How to remove carbon deposits from a frying pan? Cast iron cookware can be burned. The carbon will burn. The main thing is not to melt the dishes themselves

In general, you can burn dishes over a fire. Cast iron utensils can withstand this procedure, but if we are talking about a frying pan made of aluminum alloys, it can only be fired in a flame - it can melt on hot coals.

Another way is to use a blowtorch. This option is better, since you can control the heating process and change the intensity of firing in places with varying degrees of contamination.

Recovery after cleaning

After boiling or baking, a cast iron or aluminum frying pan loses its non-stick properties. Before cooking, you need to restore the protective film. First, heat the pan with coarse salt. Put it on the fire, pour in about 500 grams of coarse rock salt. Add salt while stirring constantly. How long? About 15 minutes after the salt has become as hot as the pan.

Clearing the frying pan of carbon deposits is only half the battle. Now we need to make sure it doesn't burn.

Pour out the salt and wipe the pan with a paper towel, removing any remaining salt. Don't wash. Just wipe with a paper or cloth kitchen towel.

After the salt procedure, simply rub it with a paper towel

Next, restore the protective oil foam on the bottom of the pan. To do this, pour a tablespoon of sunflower oil into a frying pan and spread it over the surface and sides with a brush. Put it back on the fire and warm it up. Smear the oil from time to time. Try to have it not only on the bottom, but also on the sides too. Don't pour too much. The point is for a film to form. There is no need to boil the oil. When a slight shine appears, turn it off and cool. The warm pan can be wiped down inside again with a paper towel. Now you can safely cook.

How to clean a copper frying pan?

Lightweight and elegant copper frying pans are durable and environmentally friendly. Such dishes look stylish and have excellent performance characteristics. Due to the characteristics of the metal, soot and grease do not accumulate in a thick layer, but it is quite difficult to clean them off - the shiny surface can be damaged.

We recommend: Why the plumber advised me to raise my radiator at an angle: secrets from an experienced craftsman

Here are a few ways to restore copper cookware to a respectable appearance:

  • Soap solution. A piece of laundry soap is dissolved in warm water and the mixture is poured into a bowl. After 2–3 hours, burnt fat is removed with a soft brush.
  • Salt and lemon. Fine table salt is mixed with lemon juice and rubbed on the surface of an old copper frying pan. After 30 minutes, wash off the mixture with cold water, carefully removing dirt particles with a soft sponge.

After use, washed copper utensils must be wiped dry. Otherwise, the specific shine will completely disappear.

Disposal

If cleaning does not solve the problem, then recycling pans comes to the rescue. In almost all more or less large settlements there are companies that buy scrap non-ferrous and ferrous metals. They pay money honestly, but evaluate the product not by its quality or appearance, but by weight. For example, you can hardly get more than 15 rubles for a kilogram cast-iron frying pan in such an office.

Dishes made of non-ferrous metal, for example, aluminum, are more expensive - 80-90 rubles per kilogram. The conclusion arises that before disposing of the frying pan in this way, you need to collect some more metal products and hand them over in a whole bunch - you will get more money, although not by much.

Sometimes there are companies that specialize in buying various types of dishes, including old frying pans. They pay a little more than scrap metal collection points, but even for a heavy large frying pan without cracks, chips and serious dents, it’s unlikely to get more than 250-300 rubles.

Note! It would not be a bad idea to periodically monitor the offers of branded cookware stores - sometimes they offer to return old frying pans to receive a discount (up to 25-30%) for the purchase of new similar products.

Cleaning carbon deposits from non-stick frying pans

There is nothing left on the inner surface of non-stick pans and you only need to clean them on the outside. Even then, abrasives or scrapers should not be used. All that remains are chemicals and ordinary kitchen sponges or brushes with artificial bristles.

The inside of a non-stick frying pan is clean, but how do you clean the outside?

You can clean the outside of the pan from carbon deposits using:

  • Fat dissolving agents.
  • Grill cleaning products.
  • Compositions for cleaning glass ceramics.
  • Gel for cleaning ovens.

The means are different, but the method of use is the same. Apply to the back of the pan and wait a while. If necessary, rub with a brush or the hard side of a sponge, then rinse with water. If necessary, repeat processing.

Products for removing carbon deposits from the outside of a frying pan

Which means give good results? Different. Most people praise Schumannite. This is a “thermonuclear” agent. This refers to smell and effectiveness. It cannot be applied to aluminum or cast iron, but it works great on stainless steel or enamel.

Bagi Shumanit grease remover (Israel) is a concentrated product for removing grease and other stubborn dirt in the kitchen.
Suitable for cleaning stoves, ovens, hoods, kitchen aprons, grills, pots and pans, deep fryers and other surfaces. Take precautions - the composition contains alkaline components.
All other products are approximately the same. I can recommend several from personal experience.

  1. “Mr. Muscle” for the kitchen dissolves “medium” carbon deposits well. You have to apply it a couple of times and rub thoroughly, but the fat dissolves.
  2. Silit Bang for grills works a little worse. It seemed like it should be more efficient, but it worked slower. I had to apply it 3-4 times.

    If you don't believe me, check it out

  3. Old burnt grease, which has turned not red, but black, is removed by Amway oven cleaner. After keeping the gel in the pan for 15 minutes, place it under running water. The old carbon deposits are washed off. It just comes off. Small areas remain. You can reapply the product, but rub it off faster.

Gel cleaner for AMWAY ovens - also suitable for cleaning frying pans
. Probably, all other products will work approximately the same. There is simply no “magic” remedy. Choose whichever suits you best. And one important tip: do not try to clean the inside of a non-stick frying pan with chemicals . After cleaning, throw it in the trash. Everything will always burn.

How to clean with improvised means

The necessary remedy is not always at hand. You can try to remove plaque from the pan using baking soda and ammonia. Add ammonia to soda (a couple of tablespoons) until you get a paste. Apply it to the pan and leave for 15 minutes. Rub with the hard side of a kitchen sponge. This way you can clean off plaque that is not too old and thick.

Ammonia has a very pungent odor, so you need to open the window. It is better to work in a respirator and thick rubber gloves.

If the frying pan is not very dirty, baking soda and vinegar will help clean the outside. Apply baking soda to the back, pour in vinegar and wait for the reaction to complete. Next, we take the sponge in our hands and rub it. An extra portion of soda helps, dip a piece of sponge in dishwashing detergent, then again in soda.

Ammonia has a very pungent odor

There is one recipe for cleaning the back of a frying pan of my own invention. Apply a degreaser (I use Brill professional), crush a dishwasher tablet and pour it on top, leave for 10 minutes. During this time, “lick” with a sponge a couple of times so that the powder from the tablet dissolves and is distributed more evenly. The fat, which has turned into a difficult to wash off jelly, ceases to be sticky and is cleaned off. But you still need to rub.
