Every woman has her own treasured “treasure chest”. Most often, of course, the role of a chest is an ordinary box - for some it is smaller, for others it is larger. But few people know that the appearance of jewelry depends not only on its cost, but also on the method of storage.

Boxes and trays with dividers
The same rules as for jewelry boxes apply when choosing boxes and trays for jewelry. Such “storages” are best suited for storing costume jewelry - after all, they are usually made of plastic or plywood. Drawers, separate cells, removable trays - all this will help organize the storage of jewelry.

Basic storage rules
How to properly and safely store jewelry? This question arises before every girl who has not yet taken care of buying a special organizer. When considering the issue of safety of jewelry, the following important rules should be noted:
- the outer case must be rigid, capable of protecting the contents from any influence;
- There should be several compartments inside so that everything is kept separately and everything you need can be easily found;
- for rings you must have a special compartment;
- It is important to lay the chains loosely so that they do not get tangled and there are no kinks;
- It is preferable to keep different precious metals separately, so it is necessary to take into account the number of varieties of jewelry.
Storage should be organized as carefully as for products made of expensive metals and precious stones. Only in this way will it be possible to preserve the original appearance of the jewelry for a long time.
Hand made
Hand made craftsmen also offer many ideas for storing jewelry. Handmade organizers can be ordered from needlewomen, or you can make them yourself. For example, to make a tablet for earrings and chains you only need a beautiful frame and a piece of fabric or mesh, a regular bottle can serve as a stand for bracelets, and a cardboard box or wooden box decorated using the decoupage technique looks no worse than a box bought in a store.

How to store jewelry
Well, girls, admit it, who can calmly walk past a jewelry store or not pay attention to a friend’s new beads? We are all a bit of a magpie at heart – greedy for the shiny and beautiful. Each of us has our favorite shapes of earrings or necklaces, some are crazy about bracelets, and there are also those who, without the usual rings on their hands, feel naked (it’s true!). Some girls have found “their” jewelry and make do with the classic minimum - a pair of earrings, a pendant, a watch. But for others, it’s not enough - there’s nowhere to store all these trinkets, but they definitely want a new accessory to go with a new dress. I belong to the second group - I have several kilograms of costume jewelry. Everything is complicated by the fact that I am fond of hand-made everything that comes to hand, and half of my jewelry is homemade.
Just yesterday I collected new earrings for myself when my friend started whining that she also wanted one. Where are you going, I say, you have almost the same ones, but there’s nowhere to store your trinkets, so you forget what’s in stock. Let’s take a better look at your “gold and silver”, sort everything and sort it by type. So they spent the whole evening tinkering - gluing together cardboard boxes and arranging them in a box. A friend later said that such orderly storage turned out to be very convenient - long beads and pendants stopped getting tangled, earrings always have a pair, and in general the entire collection is visible - it became easy to choose jewelry to match today's outfit. But I don’t want the usual cardboard drawer dividers, but something like this, beautiful and stylish. And we began to look for solutions, at the same time I asked my friends, female acquaintances and colleagues “how to store jewelry” - there were tons of ideas and options!
1. Small boxes, caskets with a minimum of decorations. Many of my friends use this method of storage. Usually these are serious girls with established taste and style. They don’t need a chest of trinkets - all the jewelry is loved and carefully selected, suitable for any outfit. Or these are mothers on maternity leave who had to part with bright but dangerous jewelry. Most often, beautiful boxes inherited from mother or grandmother are used for storage. But there are also ordinary cardboard boxes.
- Tip: to make storing even such a modest collection stylish and convenient, you can replace ugly boxes with modern transparent acrylic organizers.
Anya: “The jewelry is stored in a wooden box, there is also a cosmetic bag for elastic bands, bracelet pins, and a box, also my mother’s, for gold and diamonds. Storage suits me, because... I wear costume jewelry very rarely, and I give away old and boring ones, but there’s not a lot of gold.” Natalya: “There’s very little costume jewelry and everything goes in a perfume box, as long as it’s convenient.” Olya: “There is not much jewelry and everything is stored in several boxes in a corner in the closet - quick access and everything is visible. What I carry often, I don’t hide it in boxes, but put it on top.” Lena: “There’s not much jewelry, but there’s no time to wear it—the bare minimum, and only on holidays. Everything is safely hidden so that my son doesn’t get it - he likes to look at everything and pick at it, he doesn’t want it to break or tear. And before it was hung on the mirror, something was stored in a vase on the dressing table, I don’t know, maybe in a couple of years everything will return to its place.” Alena: “I have almost no jewelry - it became obsolete when I had children. The eldest, not yet a year old, managed to unfasten the chain while sitting on her hands and almost swallowed the pendant. Therefore, everything is kept to a minimum - watch, bracelet, pendant. I made a small organizer out of a bow tie box. The front compartment stores all the small jewelry and jewelry, and the rear compartment contains hygienic small items, which are convenient to take with you, throw in your bag, etc.”
2. Larger boxes and caskets where jewelry is stored “in bulk.” The owners of such boxes are lovers of decorating themselves. As the survey showed, such storage is very inconvenient - the jewelry gets mixed up, the whole “picture” is not visible, and what lies on the bottom is practically not worn. But to do it beautifully - they don’t get around to it.
Olya: “I only wear gold, which lies in one “pile” in a small chest in the closet. Chains get tangled, earrings roll into different corners. I still want to replace this chest with a special box for jewelry, but I have to look for it somewhere and order it...” Elena: “Everything is in several boxes - both jewelry and costume jewelry. Everything gets confused, of course. I tried hanging it on hooks - everything was gathering dust and didn’t look very good. But I found a way out - for my daughters these are real treasure chests, sometimes I let them play under supervision - at the same time they untangle and put everything away.” Aigul: “Several acrylic chests without dividers are placed in the chest of drawers. In one there are bracelets, in another there is a watch, in the third there are hairpins, the chests are transparent and almost everything is visible through the lid, there is no need to dig around for a long time and look for the right accessory. There is also a box without a lid with beads - sometimes I’m too lazy to put everything into chests, so I throw everything mixed into this box on top. Well, you have to disassemble it once a quarter. I saw cool dividers for drawers, I’m thinking of doing the same for myself, but where can I use the empty chests?”
3. Professional chests and suitcases. It’s good when professionals think about the problem of neat and convenient storage. Who first came up with the idea of a chest with compartments for various types of jewelry is already history, but many fashionistas enjoy using such jewelry boxes. Chests and suitcases can be small or simply huge, with several compartments or with removable trays, sliding, collapsible, complemented by a mirror or a built-in melody, plastic, wooden, metal, with combination locks. The disadvantage of such chests is that the manufacturer does not know how many rings or chains you have, and makes storage areas according to the average option. Therefore, there is a possibility that something will not fit in the allotted space, and some of the compartments will be empty. An undoubted advantage is that everything is neatly laid out and in plain sight, long beads and chains do not get tangled, and jewelry does not gather dust.
Laura: “I have a couple of bijou cases. I periodically sort out my jewelry, leave here only what I need and what I wear all the time, and give away the rest. There are large neck pieces that are not included here, I just store them in small bags in my dressing table drawer.” Olya: “I have 2 small tower boxes with rotating drawers - in one I store rings and bracelets, in the other I store earrings and chains with pendants. There are no large jewelry, the watch is alone and almost always with me. So I don’t get confused in these drawers - I’m already used to where it’s stored and I put everything in its place automatically.” Oksana: I ordered a chest from China. I spent a long time choosing a model, thinking about what I would store there. During use, it turned out that I still didn’t take something into account - there are empty compartments for chains (I don’t have them), but there is nowhere to put the earrings. But overall I like it." Tamara: “At a handicraft fair I saw a girl have a huge chest with several tiers - everything was compact, but in plain sight. I found out the contact details of the master and ordered a similar one for myself - everything was included, because... the content was developed individually to suit my wishes.”
4. Dividers for boxes - ready-made and to order, “mosaic” of boxes, jewelry trays. This is also one of the favorite ways to store jewelry among the girls surveyed. The easiest option is to place the boxes in which the jewelry was purchased in a drawer; it is both compact and beautiful, and each item has its own box.
Miroslava: “A whole chest of drawers is dedicated for bijou. My pride is that only Swarovski is here! And everything lies in their own boxes. The box is illuminated - you open it and everything sparkles. My son says that I have a branch of the store))).” Alla: “I keep small things (rings, stud earrings) in a small box, and larger ones in “original” boxes. I placed the boxes higher in the dresser drawer so that the children wouldn’t get to it.” Maria: “All the jewelry is stored in the long top drawer of the dressing table in jewelry boxes, most often bracelets - they are the most convenient. Here lies what I’m wearing now or recently put on, and the rest is stored in bags. From time to time I go through everything, take out what I need, hide what’s boring, because... store everything in easily accessible places - no box is enough. I’ve been wanting to order or buy boxes with compartments or dividers for a long time, otherwise the boxes are all different sizes and colors, but this is normal and convenient.”
- Tip: to organize the necessary cells, you can use not only jewelry boxes, but also place small trays in the box, use universal dividers, or buy special jewelry trays. Also, when designing a future chest of drawers or table, you can ask furniture makers to make cells in one of the drawers or order something similar from a carpentry workshop. Or even fill the drawer with fabric organizers.
Lida: “This is a wardrobe with a drawer at hand level, and there are compartments for jewelry; ties and belts are also stored in free cells.” Tatyana: “I generally have the simplest plastic dividers from Ikea - it’s convenient that I made the cells the size I needed, and you can change them if necessary.” Elena: “I was lucky - a friend worked in a jewelry store and gave me several jewelry trays, which fit perfectly into the drawer; I then ordered one more tray from the online store.” Valeria: “We ordered jewelry trays exactly to the size of the jewelry box. It is very expensive! But so convenient! The main thing is to immediately think about what will be stored where - I probably spent a week laying out my jewelry in an empty box and drawing layouts. But now everything is included and there is still room for new things!”
If you are the happy owner of sliding wardrobes from Ikea, then special inserts for decorations in drawers are a real godsend!
5. Separate cabinets for storing bijou. This is a solution for the most picky fashionistas who measure their jewelry not in pieces, but in kilograms. Everything is serious here - no miniature boxes or drawers, only huge shelves, a million hooks and a large mirror. Cabinets for jewelry can be easily found in various online stores (not only foreign, but also domestic). And if you are lucky, the craftsmen will be able to make such a piece of furniture to suit your individual size and volume of jewelry. My friend from LiveJournal Oksana took the plunge, ordered it and now she has #happinesshappiness!
Oksana: “I accidentally saw pictures of a jewelry cabinet somewhere, fell in love, and got confused - I spent a long time looking for the right size, shape and price. As a result, I ordered this cabinet on Ebay. It’s a long story to tell how we sorted out some of the filling details with the manufacturer, and how this cabinet got to Russia. But now he's mine! It is supposed to be hung on the door, but it seemed to me that this would be a big load, so I placed the cabinet behind the door on the wall - thereby resolving the issue with the unused “dead zone”. According to the preliminary description, this cabinet holds 36 necklaces, 48 pairs of earrings with any lock and about a hundred rings, and also has a compartment for 12 watches or bracelets. Everything is clear with beads and bracelets - they hang on nails. It’s very convenient with rings - there is a special tray above the mirror, there is foam rubber and black “velvet” with slots - just like in jewelry boxes, you insert the ring, and it stays there, tight, comfortable, super. There is a holder for earrings on the top of the door. It is very convenient for stud earrings and earrings with bows, but not so much for an English lock; it is difficult to fasten and unfasten it in order to place or remove an earring. But there was no such thing that the earrings could not be secured at all. At the bottom of the cabinet there are 4 more removable blocks for everything that cannot be hung - pendants, watches, etc. I removed the bottom one for now and placed several bottles of perfume there. Well, it’s incredibly cool that there is a small mirror inside, and on the front side of the door there is another one - almost full-length. Satisfied! I'm bragging! )))"
6. Special organizers for bijou – wall-mounted, table-top, cosmetic bags, “dress” organizers. Did you know that jewelry can be not only a stylish accessory for a complete look, but also a real piece of furniture? If you store it, store it beautifully! And open openwork organizers for jewelry do this perfectly. Some can be placed directly on a table or chest of drawers, others can be hung on the wall. The disadvantage of this storage method is dust, which will inevitably settle on the jewelry. Pros - you will more often pick up “bored” items to put them in order.
If you don’t want to put your treasures on display, you don’t like chests and caskets, and it’s impossible to select a whole drawer, take a closer look at jewelry cosmetic bags. Such things are often found in cosmetics catalogs, small jewelry stores, you can even look online for a master class on sewing a cosmetic bag, if a needle and thread don’t scare you.
Ira: “I somehow accidentally saw such a cosmetic bag in Letual, bought several pieces at once and gave almost all of them to my friends. It turned out that it was very convenient to store long chains, laces with pendants, bracelets in it - it was carefully wrapped and nothing got tangled. It’s great to take something like this on a trip!”
Aaaand, of course, you can’t go past the famous organizer dress!
It has a lot of pockets for small jewelry and special loops for storing beads, belts and scarves. You can put a lot of jewelry in such an organizer, and it will take up minimal space in the closet (no more than an ordinary dress or jacket). Each set or item has its own individual pocket, jewelry does not cling to each other, does not scratch, does not oxidize and, most importantly, does not gather dust! In addition, it is very convenient to take out a dress organizer and evaluate your entire jewelry collection at once!
Maria: “I am a fan and patriot of “Everything in Places” - I store jewelry in such organizers.” Elena: “I ordered such a “dress”, then I sewed a similar one myself - it was very cool to store everything in the pockets! Then the storage system changed, but that’s another story, and the “dresses” were inherited by my younger sister - she is still delighted.”
7. Plastic boxes with cells - for needlework, screws and fishing tackle. What fashion girls won’t come up with! It turns out that a variety of plastic containers, which are sold for 3 kopecks in any hardware store, are ideal for storing jewelry! You can have a separate drawer for earrings and rings, and use another for larger jewelry. It’s easy to expand the cells using a stationery knife, and there are organizers where the partitions can be rearranged as you see fit. Typically, these organizers have a translucent lid, so you can easily see what is where. Take a closer look at what your husband keeps his screws in and what suitcase your dad goes fishing with))) It's time for dispossession! )))
Lyuba: “I took a plastic box with a bunch of compartments for gear from my fisherman husband. Any fishing store has these, they call it a “spoon box,” but in general they come in different types and sizes. Cheap, cheerful and convenient! It’s cool that these boxes are transparent and you can see everything.” Olya: “I have one box for rings with special bolsters, but everything else (beads, brooches, earrings) is all in plastic boxes for small items, which are sold in a tool store for storing nails and screws. The idea for such storage appeared when a guy came to us to collect furniture and he had such a box! I also store all sorts of boring decorations in a plastic Ikea box with compartments. In general, the main thing for me is that there are separators, otherwise everything always gets confused.” Tanya: “I don’t have a lot of jewelry, but I kept losing my stud earrings. Now I store them in a small round medicine organizer - it’s very convenient to divide them into sets, placing them in different compartments.”
8. Non-standard options in the closet, ideas and hand-made solutions. In general, everyone gets out as best they can. For example, if there are no free drawers for jewelry in the closet, then small hooks can be attached to the doors or to the walls (if it is a sliding wardrobe) - and then the storage space is ready.
Evgenia: “I have very little bijoux. There are hooks on the wall in the closet, on which I hung my “collection” of jewelry.” Diana: “My spillikins hang on nails driven into the end of the rack (high away from the children).” Lena: “I have several hooks in my closet on which jewelry is hung. So I take in clothes, jewelry and shoes at one glance and immediately see what to wear with what. The whole selection of a complete image takes 5 seconds.” Katya: “There is a box for rings, brooches and pendants. But for numerous beads, chains, large earrings and bracelets, I ordered my husband to buy ordinary plastic hooks on a double-sided adhesive base (no drilling or nailing required) and I myself glued them to the cabinet door from the inside (naturally, this option is only suitable for ordinary cabinets , not for coupe). Now all my chains and pendants never get tangled, I can find everything at once, I hung thin bracelets (several pieces at a time) and large earrings on smaller hooks.”
All kinds of trays for ice, eggs, muffins, trays for candies, paint palettes - all of this can also become excellent and stylish organizers!
Maria: “The ice trays have been hanging around in the kitchen cabinet for a long time - it’s a shame to throw them away, and they’re not needed. And then I did a global cleaning and decluttering - a whole drawer in the chest of drawers was freed up, so I put these trays there - each cell included one pair of earrings, a brooch or a ring. Now I have everything in sight, otherwise I used to forget about some jewelry, they just lay in a heap in the box, and I wore the same thing.” Katya: “I haven’t yet come up with anything better than storing small jewelry items in a candy holder - it’s durable! In addition, the decorations do not scratch each other. The larger ones I put into muffin tins. My husband laughs at such trays, but it’s convenient for me!”
A variety of plates, cups, candy dishes - you can also store jewelry in them, and such non-standard use of dishes can become a stylish element of decor in the bedroom.
Lucy: “Do you want to laugh? I put everything on a plate and put it on a shelf in the closet - I take it out and admire it.” Natalya: “The candy dish, which was unnecessary in the household, suddenly found a second life and fit wonderfully into the bathroom.”
You can’t ignore various hand-made ideas. Probably everyone has seen pictures of rakes and graters floating around the Internet, with hanging beads and earrings. And needlewomen keep coming up with original solutions to make storing jewelry not only convenient, but also unusual. Wine corks, entire compositions made of copper wire, embroidery hoops and canvas, tree branches, cutlery trays, picture frames - this is only a small part of the ideas on how you can organize non-standard jewelry storage with virtually no financial costs.
Well, what about me? As always, I put several options into practice: Stud earrings are stored in a small box, and large bracelets and hairbands are stored in a large plastic suitcase. In the top drawer of the dresser there are wooden dividers (the wizards at Good Wood Gifts made these things for me). In each cell, jewelry is arranged by color and texture, there is a compartment with foam rubber and slots for rings, a place to store watches, and one compartment for all sorts of small things that are difficult to put somewhere. Earrings with bows are suspended on a hand-made stand using an unnecessary frame and a piece of perforated fabric. A little inspiration and perseverance, and a wonderful thing is ready, now all the earrings hang in one place, and it’s convenient to select an image near the mirror. I also have a wonderful belt hanger that fits cord charms and a few pieces of jewelry that can't be folded or bent.
In fact, all these options are just a small part of all kinds of ideas for storing jewelry. If I get my thoughts together, I’ll conduct a small marathon of jewelry life hacks - I’ll tell you how to make several stylish and useful accessories for storing jewelry with your own hands in 5 minutes. And you, in turn, share your ideas - how and where do you store jewelry, what would you like to change or add?
Wedding rings after divorce
In the previous chapter, we touched on the topic of whether it is possible to keep an engagement ring after a divorce. Let's consider this issue in more detail.
It is believed that while the divorce process is ongoing, wearing the ring should continue. After a divorce, you need to get rid of the symbol of a broken relationship. It can be sold, donated to charity, thrown away or melted down.
So why shouldn't you keep your rings after a divorce? It has long been noticed that these decorations begin to attract various troubles into the house. In addition, they serve as a vivid reminder of failed relationships, causing negative emotions.
To save yourself from unpleasant memories, one of the parties can return the ring to the ex-spouse. This gesture will help maintain dignity in a difficult situation. In addition, the decision on what to do with the engagement ring after a divorce will be left to the discretion of the other party.
It is not recommended to wear such jewelry on the left hand. Superstitious people believe that this can bring trouble to your ex-spouse. Thus rings are usually worn by widowers.
The attributes of a wedding are endowed with special energy, and it is better to ask a priest how to deal with them after a divorce. Many people believe that donating wedding rings to the church will relieve some of the blame for a broken relationship.
Tips to extend the life of your jewelry
All the recommendations that will be presented below are easy to follow. Things to remember:
- Apply cosmetics and perfumes first, and only then put on necklaces, rings and other valuables. We are talking about absolutely all care, decorative and aromatic products.
- At least once a year, thoroughly clean your jewelry using special products. And if possible, take the jewelry to a specialist.
- Do not take a bath or shower, or go to a sauna or swimming pool without removing your accessories. When washing dishes and floors, use gloves, as household chemicals harm any metal.
- Try to avoid strong physical impact on objects made of gold and silver - they bend easily.
- Do not forget that each item, regardless of the quality and value of the material, requires individual care. For example, a simple plastic box with several sections can be a solution for storing stud earrings, but for diamond rings you need to buy a special organizer.
- Always consider the product's exposure to oxygen, humidity and light. It is good if there are several separate places for decorations in the house, each of which meets storage requirements. A bedroom and a dressing room are usually suitable for this. If you have pearl jewelry on hand, a bathroom shelf would be a good option for it. At the same time, do not forget where each item is stored, or better yet, write down the information in a notebook. It is also important to remember that all accessories must be removed at night, even if you do not feel discomfort.
Silver, gold, platinum, precious stones
Manufacturers of boxes took care of the safe placement of chains - they developed and created special boxes. Products made of any metal should be protected from sunlight. Therefore, it is recommended to store each chain in long or square compartments, carefully laying it around the perimeter. If you do this, she will never get confused.
It is also not difficult to organize storage for rings with precious and semi-precious stones. For them, manufacturers provide special pads in which the products are placed vertically. This is convenient, because they do not touch each other, and you can easily find what you need. There are other methods, for example, brush-shaped stands, but they are not as convenient as organizers.
