There is always a catastrophic lack of space, so you have to resort to little tricks. We offer a few more ideas for your piggy bank.
Interesting ideas for organizing storage
To make storing garden tools convenient, it is recommended to use ready-made ideas from specialists.
Racks and shelves
With the correct arrangement of racks and shelves, you can save space and place many important items. It is permissible to put items that are rarely used on top. Essential tools can be found in the center and below.
Space for shovels and rakes
To prevent tools with long handles from taking up a lot of space, it’s worth making some kind of organizer. To do this, it is recommended to take 2-4 boards, sandpaper, screws, a drill and a hacksaw. Mark the location of the holes in the boards and make them with a feather drill. Using a hacksaw, make side cuts, sand and secure with screws.
Wardrobe
After gardening work, things get very dirty. To store such clothes, it is worth making a separate closet. An excellent option would be to use a regular wooden pallet. It should be mounted on the wall and attached with hooks and shelves.
Rake hanger
Experts do not advise throwing away tools that are no longer used. So, a rake is perfect for creating a hanger for small tools. To do this, they should be mounted on a vertical surface.
Small Item Storage
For small items it is allowed to use special bags. It is also permissible to hang them on metal slats equipped with hooks. They are considered more reliable and affordable compared to plastic stands.
Fastener storage organizer
To store nails and screws, you should take several suitable jars and pour nails into them. Secure the covers with screws under the convenient shelf. Then screw the jars with fasteners to the lids.
Organizer for small tools
Attachments are a convenient option for storing small tools. They can be made from textiles and polyethylene. Such products resemble an apron with pockets that was hung on a door or wall. The compartments of such an organizer can contain various items - seeds, gloves, pruning shears, fertilizers.
The need for a work surface
Each utility room must have a surface on which it is possible to carry out flower replanting or repair work. To solve such problems, it is permissible to make a table from available materials. To do this, it is recommended to make pallets and cover them with a sheet of chipboard.
Niches made of PVC pipes
PVC pipes can be used to make an excellent mounting option for shovels, rakes and other tools with handles. To do this, pipe sections should be attached to a wall or other vertical surface.
Railings
The standard option for using roof rails is the kitchen. However, they can also be used to secure small tools in the garden. The advantage of this option is the possibility of attaching rails to a door, in a closet or on a fence.
Pallets
Wooden pallets are considered a universal fixture. They can also be used in the countryside. Such products are especially effective for large tools. To do this, just install the pallet vertically and place rakes, shovels and other tools in it. To prevent the system from falling, it should be secured to the wall with nails.
Organizer board
This device is considered convenient because it has many holes. With their help it is possible to secure small garden tools. The board does not require much space. At the same time, it is characterized by mobility.
Hooks
This is one of the fastest and most affordable options that does not require any special expenses. To do this, you should attach the required number of hooks to the wall and hang the equipment on them.
Flower pots
In order not to look for small equipment when carrying out gardening work, you should use a mobile organizer. A regular flower pot will do for this. It is recommended to fill it with sand and fix the required devices inside - for example, a scoop.
How to make a screw clamp
To attach a pipe bender to a workbench, as well as to perform other work, you will need various clamps. The price of a large number of products of different sizes is quite high. Therefore, if you wish, you can make such designs yourself.
To make a screw clamp you will need:
- Profile metal sheet, approximately 10 millimeters thick.
- Metal rod with M10 thread at one end.
- Several M10 nuts.
The manufacturing procedure includes:
- A bracket is marked on a sheet of metal. To do this, you can use a finished product or prepare a template yourself, at your own discretion, taking into account the requirements of operating conditions and the required dimensions.
- The workpiece is cut out. In this case, it is better to use an acetylene torch or gas cutter.
- The edges are cleaned with an angle grinder and the burrs are removed.
- On the smaller side of the bracket, several M10 nuts or a hexagonal rod up to 50 millimeters long with an M10 thread along the entire length in the center of the part are welded.
- An M10 thread of the required length is cut on a round rod with a diameter of 10 millimeters.
- All elements are given a protective coating with oil or nitro paint to protect against corrosion.
A homemade garage tool may also have a more complex manufacturing process, which requires special equipment and skills.
Operating rules
In order for the tool organizer to last as long as possible and not need to be repaired or made new, you should be able to handle it correctly:
- The general structural condition should be checked from time to time.
- If the material needs to be regularly treated with agents against damage and wear, then this should be done on time.
- You should not try to accommodate as many tools as possible and exceed the limit that was set at the stage of creating the drawings.
- Portable structures should be placed carefully in the trunk of a car or on the floor to avoid deformation.
- If there are latches and locks, you should open and close them carefully, without haste, so as not to damage them prematurely.
Please note that if you know all these rules and apply them, you will be able to use purchased or homemade organizers for a long period of time without compromising their overall condition.
Organization of tool storage in a house or apartment
If you don’t have your own workshop for tools, you should allocate any suitable room. An ordinary balcony, pantry or hallway is perfect for this purpose. To properly organize your space, you should purchase or make your own shelves. It is also acceptable to use racks or a cabinet.
Regardless of the storage area, it is recommended to follow these rules:
- Temperature and humidity should be at the same level. This will help avoid metal corrosion.
- Working elements must not contact each other.
- Instruments should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
Electrical tools that are used quite rarely are recommended to be turned on periodically. This will help check their serviceability.
Pantry
To keep tools in good condition in the pantry, the following popular space organization options are suitable:
- Use of standard monolithic shelves. They must not have additions or perforations. Such devices are suitable for storing small tools.
- The use of devices with stiffeners. These options are suitable for heavy items.
- Equipment of shelves with sides. These options are suitable for small round objects. It is also permissible to place fragile devices there.
- Organization of shelves with holes. Such devices are chosen for storing items that require natural ventilation.
When arranging shelves in a pantry, it is important to choose the right material. Today the following options exist:
- Natural wood is considered a safe and environmentally friendly material. However, it is susceptible to moisture and dirt. To make wooden shelves, they need to be further processed.
- Metal - from this material it is possible to create stable and durable structures that can withstand high loads. The only disadvantage of metal structures is their tendency to corrosion. Therefore, it is recommended to choose galvanized steel options.
- Polymers are a good replacement for metal and wood. Plastic is characterized by resistance to many external influences. However, after some time it loses its appearance and turns yellow.
The thickness of the boards is selected taking into account the planned load. For average weight, the optimal thickness is 3 centimeters. For lighter objects, it is permissible to make the structure from plywood. Fasteners are selected depending on the type of material. Metal options are considered the most durable option.
It is important to consider that for long shelves it is worth using a sufficient number of parts for fixing
Balcony or loggia
Do not store tools on an open balcony. In such conditions, they will be exposed to undesirable factors - temperature fluctuations, humidity changes. To keep your tools safe and sound, you should keep them on a glassed, insulated balcony. It is recommended to store various devices in such a room. At the same time, you don’t have to be afraid that they will suffer from sudden changes in external factors.
Table
Small tools and fasteners can be kept in the table. It should be equipped with a large number of drawers. To prevent tools from getting lost, you should use special boxes or organizers.
Organizer containers
People who try to maintain order often use special containers. Today you can find a large number of interesting options. These include the following:
- folding boxes and suitcases - suitable for small accessories;
- large boxes with a shelf in the form of an insert - they can be used for large items;
- set for large and small tools - has a large number of compartments and sections.
Organizers are made of metal and plastic. Tool boxes are lightweight. They can be transported without problems, which allows you to use the tools in any circumstances.
Wall clamp holder
Carpenter's clamps are often piled up or placed in a corner of the home workshop. Build a shelf holder for them from waste wood and a piece of sheet material.
Our homemade device can accommodate up to six rack clamps. You can increase the dimensions of the hanger to store more tools by approximately 30mm for each tool. Please note that if the holder expands significantly, you will need to strengthen the bar or place additional support in the middle.

Cardboard tubes
Few people know that toilet paper rolls and paper towels can also be used to create insulated containers for storing small items. To do this, take a cardboard box and insert cardboard sleeves into it like pencils into a pencil holder. They are tightly fixed due to the contact of the walls, and you can put anything inside, from folded wires to radio components. For ease of use of the system, you can wrap several tubes with tape, thereby fastening them together.
Containers for ceiling mounting
This is not the most suitable option for storing the necessary tool at home, but it is quite suitable for a garage or country shed. There is only one downside: containers require additional investments. Otherwise, the principle of operation is simple: a kind of railing for kitchen drawers is made from wood, along which filled containers are slid in and fixed to the ceiling. The ceiling covering itself acts as a cover here. However, you can only store something light in containers, since lifting containers filled with heavy items is inconvenient.
Interesting ideas for storing tools in the garage
There are many options for storing such devices. Today you can find a large number of interesting ideas.
Plastic cans
It is recommended to cut these containers and use them to store nuts, bolts, and self-tapping screws. You can also store nails in them.
Stand
To put the pliers in one place, you should make a special wooden stand for them. This will prevent tools from being scattered throughout the house.
Railing
In this case, it is recommended to use a thin metal rod, which is suitable for storing paint brushes. Thanks to this, they will be in limbo.
Individual cells
Remains of PVC pipes are suitable for creating comfortable cells in which small electrical tools can be carefully stored.
Wooden rack
A hand-made wooden rack suitable for wrenches. With its help, you can avoid the tedious search for suitable tools.
Open locker
Such a cabinet can be made of wood. Such a device will be an excellent solution for storing aerosol paints, which are often chaotically scattered around the room.
Mobile stand
Using a small stand, complemented by wheels, will be an excellent solution for storing hand tools. The rack is compact in size and allows you to always have everything you need at hand.
Wooden stand
This device is perfect for storing a large number of different tools. It helps to organize all the products and will become a real decoration of the room.
It is important to ensure reliable fastening of the structure
Homemade stand
A hand-made pallet can turn into a comfortable stand for gardening tools. Such devices often take up a lot of space in a garage or shed.
Hanger
To make it, you should take an ordinary wooden block equipped with metal hooks. It helps solve the problem of storing electric tools forever.
Hangers for clothes
Simple transformations with a regular hanger will help turn it into a comfortable organizer. This device is suitable for storing adhesive tape or tape.
Storage system
Quite often, forks, rakes, shovels and other similar tools take up a lot of space in utility rooms. They are considered unstable. To conveniently place such devices indoors, it is worth organizing a special storage system. To do this, it is recommended to fix reliable wooden hooks on the walls. They can be used to conveniently place gardening tools along the walls.
Folding table
For owners of a small utility room, a folding table is suitable. You can make it yourself from wood. In addition to this device, it is worth using a wall rack. Such solutions are well suited for hand tools.
Glass jars
Ordinary glass jars, complemented by metal lids, can be used to store various small items.
Vertical storage
An ordinary garage always seems cluttered. To cope with such problems, it is worthwhile to provide the right storage system. To do this, you should not use another closet, but equip the walls with hooks and shelves. Thanks to this, you will be able to neatly arrange all the necessary things.
Boxes on wheels
Consider your needs: If you use a limited set of tools, you may not need to buy a large and spacious belt holder. On the other hand, for things that you rarely use, you can provide a drawer on wheels - roll it out, take what you need, and roll it back under your desktop or workbench.
In general, boxes on wheels are a multifunctional thing: they are often sold in the format of modular storage systems, which, thanks to wheels, are easy to move - this is especially useful for those who often travel between an apartment and a dacha, since there is no need to buy two separate sets of tools.
This is an indispensable solution for those who are building something on their own site: assembled into a single structure, the boxes are easy to move around the construction site. If desired, the modular system can be supplemented with new drawers or, conversely, unnecessary ones can be removed - the versatility and variability of such systems make them suitable for any number of tools and equipment.
Organizing storage in your workshop is not a difficult task. Remember that you need to approach the issue comprehensively: it is not enough to buy a couple of racks or ten boxes, you must have both for different types of tools. And having taken care of this once, you can always maintain order in the workshop, even if the number of tools grows from year to year.
Workshop ventilation
Cross-ventilation is best, so place your workbench between a door and a window if possible.
If the work is dusty or you will be using solvents or other volatile substances, cross-ventilation with air flowing from your back is preferable. This, together with an appropriate mask/respirator, will provide reasonable protection from airborne substances and particles.
Consider artificial ventilation using fans if adequate air circulation in the room is not possible. In cold climates, where windows and doors are kept closed and the room is heated, circulate air throughout the room using a fan air circulation system, preferably with a filter that is easy to clean. Adhesives and paints can produce fumes, so cross-ventilation is helpful in dispersing these fumes and also helps the adhesives and paints dry.
