Today, wax depilation is an effective way to remove excess hair on the body, requiring heated liquid wax. For this, a special device is used - a wax melter. It is easy to care for, but the wax melter must be cleaned immediately after use.
We have prepared recommendations for quickly and correctly cleaning a wax melter - using improvised methods and store-bought products.
Features of the functioning of the wax melter
Waxing requires preliminary melting of the wax - this procedure is carried out in a wax melter. The type of wax used, which can be lump, film, or jar, depends on the design of the device. Wax melters also heat cartridges with cosmetic wax.
To heat up the wax, just turn on the wax melter and wait half an hour. After this, the product can be used.
Such devices have built-in special heating elements, which ensure a constant temperature of the wax.
High-quality and competent cleaning of the wax melter after each use will ensure a long service life of the device. If cartridge or jar wax is heated, the situation becomes more complicated: you have to clean not only the inside of the bowl, but also the body of the device from the wax. To do this, you can use turpentine: just moisten a cloth with the product and wipe the walls of the bowl with it. But turpentine has an unpleasant odor, so today there are other ways to care for a wax melter.
How to clean a wax melter with a metal bowl
If the device has a removable metal bowl
, then to clean the device you will need to perform the following steps:
- Place the bowl in a container filled with water and add some detergent;
- Place the container on the stove and bring to a boil over low heat;
- Wait until the softened wax separates from the walls of the bowl - it should float to the surface of the water;
- Remove the container from the heat and wait until the wax pieces cool and harden;
- Remove hardened wax;
- Wipe the bowl dry and place it in the appliance.
This is the easiest and most effective method, since there is no need to impact the walls of the bowl with hard objects.
We use improvised means
Remembering chemistry, we can say that wax contains many components, in particular, esters and fatty acids, which are not so easy to clean if they come into contact with any surface.
Regular water and glycerin cannot cope with this. You need liquids with fatty or essential oils. This could be turpentine, chlorformine and other similar liquids. With porcelain and glassware you can do this:
- scrape off the wax stains with the back of a knife or other metal object,
- wash the surface using a cleaning agent or dishwashing detergent,
- Wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth.
This will not work with metal, especially if there is a non-stick or enamel coating. In the case of a can wax melter, if the working container is removable, proceed as follows:
- place it in a fairly large saucepan and fill it with cold water (you can add a little dishwashing liquid),
- put the pan on the fire and bring to a boil. The wax will melt and float up,
- remove the container from the heat and let it cool slightly so that the waxy liquid forms islands or begins to harden,
- collect the floating fragments, remove the dishes and wipe them.
This method is more gentle, since it does not involve mechanical impact on the working surfaces of the unit.
There is another way to clean hot wax from a wax melter. You just need to do this very carefully so as not to get burned. It is necessary to carefully turn the device over and drain the remaining working material from it. Then, while still hot, wipe with a dry cloth. When it cools down a little, wipe with an alcohol cloth or soaked in oil. After cooling completely, wash with dishwashing detergent, let drain and rub until shiny.
If using the two previous methods does not work due to the structure of the device, you can hold it “upside down” over hot steam, only very carefully so as not to get burned. All the wax will flow down the walls. All that remains is to wash the surfaces with warm water and detergent and wipe dry.
How to clean a wax melter for heating cartridge wax
Do not immerse the device in soapy water. There are two ways to clean a wax melter, and the first of them is to wipe the device with napkins, which will remove spilled wax.
The second way is to use hot steam.
This option is suitable if the walls of the wax melter are very dirty. The procedure will be as follows:
- Place the container of water on the stove, turn on the heat and wait until it boils;
- Turn over and hold the wax melter over the steam until the wax melts and drips down;
- Remove hot wax using wipes pre-moistened in an alcohol solution.
This method requires precautions - there is a high risk of getting burned.
Enhanced nutrition of bees and assessment of the type of contamination of wax raw materials
The secretion of wax directly depends on the family's supply of honey and beebread. If the honeycomb is destroyed, the colony intensifies the secretion of wax.
When the queen worms little, intra-hive bees also reduce the intensity of the synthesis of wax plates. The supply of fresh pollen to the nest will help restore it.
Pigmentation is caused by dyes, beebread residues and larval molting products that are absorbed into it. The beekeeper's task is to understand which elements cause color change and, based on this, neutralize them. Selected darkened honeycombs are stored in water before melting, removing the remains of cocoons and waste products of bees.
Compositions for wax after hair removal
Products for removing wax from epilated skin can quickly and effectively clean a wax melter. Such compositions melt the wax in the shortest possible time and remove it, regardless of the type of surface. However, the cost of such compositions is quite high.
A more budget option is to use alcohol and oil. Warm wax melt is wiped with a cloth, which must first be soaked in vegetable oil - for example, store-bought refined sunflower oil. The wax will stick to this fabric. And to remove grease stains, you will need to soak a napkin in a 40% alcohol solution (vodka will do).
How to make a honey-colored wax ingot
- Special paper for depilation in a roll. This form is most convenient for removing hair from large areas (legs, chest, back). For easy tearing, the paper is perforated at a certain distance. Depilatory paper can have different colors and aroma, which does not affect its functional qualities.
- Spatulas for uniform application of wax (if a cartridge is not used): a convenient shape allows you to easily distribute heated wax over the surface of the skin, without leaving any area untreated.
- Depilation strips are very convenient for removing hair from small areas of skin (in the armpits or bikini area).
- Cosmetics after depilation: effectively dissolves and removes wax residues from the skin. Experts note an excellent effect when using oil after depilation Arco cosmetici (Italy). The nutrients it contains have a soothing effect on the skin and relieve irritation. A standard 500 ml package will last for more than one year when used at home.
2-3 days after waxing, cosmetologists advise treating the skin with a scrub twice a week to prevent ingrown hairs. For the same purposes, it is necessary to use special lotions and creams for ingrown hairs.
Mechanical method
If the wax melt has cooled down, then a knife or wooden spatula is suitable to remove the frozen wax. Carefully pry up the frozen drop of wax - after this it will come off the surface on its own.
After this, dampen the cloth in the soapy solution, walk it over the surface of the device and thoroughly wipe the wax melter.
We do not recommend using this method of cleaning your device frequently. Mechanical cleaning risks leaving scratches on the surface of the wax melter and damaging the non-stick coating of the bowl inside.
If you clean mechanically with a hot wax melt, the wax will come off quickly. But in this case there is a risk of getting burned: be as careful and careful as possible.
Other ways to clean a wax melter
Today in stores you can find special cleaning products for various surfaces:
- Wipes moistened with lotion to remove the sticky layer after hair removal. They are sold in ready-made depilatory or epilation kits. You can find them in specialized stores selling cosmetic materials. Wipes facilitate quick and complete cleaning of surfaces;
- Wipes moistened with 90% alcohol. They are sold in pharmacies. Such products quickly and easily remove wax from glass, plastic or metal surfaces. Isopropyl alcohol, acting as an active substance, promotes complete dissolution of the wax in the shortest possible time;
- Skin cleansing lotion. This product contains fatty components. It is enough to moisten cotton with lotion and wipe the walls of the wax melt with it to quickly get rid of wax;
- Vegetable oil of any kind - flaxseed, sunflower, olive. Even oil used for massage is suitable. Instead of butter, you can use rich cream. The procedure is simple: apply oil/cream to the walls of a warm wax melt and wait up to 10 minutes. During this time the wax will dissolve. After this, you need to apply a napkin or dry cotton cloth to the wall of the device to wipe off the wax. To remove residual grease, moisten a cloth with soapy water and run it over the walls of the appliance again.
The above products are effective only when working with a warm wax melter. If the device has cooled down, then the methods discussed will not bring results.
What you need for waxing
In order for hair removal to give you the desired effect, you need to properly prepare for it. What is needed for depilation with film wax? In fact, in the process you will need a small set of tools and accessories:
- actual wax;

Precautionary measures
Since the wax melter operates from the mains power supply, water should not be allowed to get inside the housing or near the contacts. Before turning on the wax melter, make sure that the device is completely dry - the same applies to the plug, connection contact, and wire.
If you turn on a wet device, there is a risk of a short circuit and you may be injured.
It is prohibited to treat an electrical appliance that is plugged into an outlet with a wet cloth. The wax melter can only be cleaned when it is turned off and disconnected from the power source.
