How to remove and change the fabric in an Indesit washing machine?

Probably every family uses an automatic washing machine, and no one can even imagine being left without its help. But over time, it may also happen that the washing machine stops heating the water, for unknown reasons, the program time lengthens or the quality of the washes deteriorates.

If your assistant experiences such symptoms, it means that it is most likely necessary to install a new heating element on the Indesit washing machine due to the old one failing. The fact is that when the heating element is not working, the effectiveness of detergents deteriorates, programs become longer because the processor does not understand why the required water temperature is not there, and if there is a breakdown on the heater body, the Indesit washing machine may turn off completely.

You can find out how much it costs to replace a heating element for an Indesit washing machine in any specialized workshop, but if you have skills in repairing any equipment, you can solve this problem with your washing machine yourself.

Replacing the heating element of an Indesit washing machine will require a little time, tools and patience.

On all models of this brand of product, the heater is located in the rear of the tank; to access it there is a removable part of the device body and therefore complete disassembly of the washing machine is not required.

Device Models

LG

In machines from this manufacturer, the heater is often located at the back.
The contacts come out, but most of the spiral is hidden inside the housing. It’s difficult to get confused - the device of this brand has a direct-drive motor, which is attached to the tank, and the heating element is under the tank. The case does not require extensive disassembly. Tip The power of the new heater should match the previous one. LG brand machines have power ranging from 1900 to 2000 W.

Indesit

Here the heater will be located at the back. Close the inlet valve before work, disconnect communications. The rear wall of the Indesit machines has a small hatch. Prepare a shaped screwdriver or an asterisk. The heating element is secured inside with a special bracket: make sure that the part fits directly into the bracket.

Samsung

The heating element is located on the flange (together with the fuse). While the heaters of other machines can be repaired, this is not possible in Samsung machines - you will need to buy a new one. Price - in the range of 700–1500 rubles.

How to replace

To replace a non-functioning heating element with a new one, you will need:

  1. Disassemble the washing machine, taking into account its design features.
  2. Disconnect the wiring and check its condition using a tester.
  3. Carry out dismantling.
  4. Install a new, working heating element.
  5. Reassemble the washing machine to its original state and check its functionality.

Features of design and disassembly of various models

Depending on the manufacturer of the washing machine you use in your home, disassembling it may have some nuances that need to be taken into account. Among the common models often purchased in stores are the following brands:

  • Samsung;
  • Ariston;
  • LG;
  • BOSH;
  • Indesit.

Samsung

Washing machines from Samsung are considered one of the easiest to disassemble. To work with them you need to know the following things:

  1. The heating element that needs to be replaced is located under the front cover, at the bottom of the water tank. Access to it is not blocked by anything, and getting to it is no problem.
  2. The compartment for loading washing powder is attached to the structure using 2 screws and, if necessary, can be easily dismantled.

Indesit

Equipment manufactured by Indesit is also not difficult to disassemble. Necessary:

  • minimal set of tools;
  • carefully disconnect the board with wires when dismantling the heating element;
  • The heater itself is located very conveniently; to dismantle it, just unscrew the back cover of the machine.

Ariston

Replacing a heater in Ariston does not present any problems for the owners. It is located extremely conveniently and practically. Problems arise when the bearings located inside the tank fail.

LG

Household appliances from LG are not designed in the most convenient way and when disassembling them you will have to tinker a lot. Algorithm of actions:

  1. First, the nuts are unscrewed, with which the hatch cover is secured.
  2. Once the nuts are removed, remove the front panel.
  3. The next step is to unscrew the screw, which is used to hold the clamps holding the cuffs together.
  4. The heating element is located under the tank.
  5. To remove the tank, you must first twist the weighting material.

Bosch

BOSH is easy to disassemble. To dismantle components that have failed during operation, no special tools or skills are required. According to experts, to completely disassemble the washing machine you only need to have:

  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • wrench.

Disconnecting wiring and checking with a tester

Before disconnecting the heating element from the machine, be sure to do the following:

  1. Disconnect the device from the network and turn off the water.
  2. Before disconnecting the wires leading to the heater, their location must be remembered or photographed.
  3. A tester test is carried out to determine the condition of the heater. If the tester shows several ohms, the device is working. When the tester determines large values, starting from 10 and above, the part can be safely thrown away.

Dismantling

The algorithm for dismantling may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer of the unit, but, in general, it looks like this:

  1. It is necessary to remove the nut that secures the heating element to the body.
  2. Using a rubber hammer, carefully tap the pin.
  3. We carefully remove the damaged element.
  4. We check it for functionality.

Installing a new element

To install a new element, follow these steps:

  • install the heater and tighten the nut on the main screw;
  • We connect the electrical wires to the places where they were before dismantling.

Reassembly and inspection

To perform reverse assembly, install the parts twisted from the machine in the reverse order. Once the assembly is complete, do the following:

  1. We run a test wash and carefully observe to see if any leaks have appeared anywhere.
  2. Let's check how the water heats up.
  3. If everything is in order, we put the machine in place.

Causes of heating element failure

Not a single manufacturer of washing machines produces all the components themselves; a significant part of them is made at related enterprises to order. As a result, the risks of supplying low-quality goods increase. Responsible manufacturers send their representatives to suppliers to monitor the entire process and check products on site, and hacks buy what is cheaper. As a result, the heating elements fail. This is the main cause of breakdowns. But there are also objective factors related to operating conditions.

  1. The heating element coil or control sensor has burned out. In villages, the voltage in the network often jumps; due to strong winds, wires on overhead power lines may overlap. The result is that the voltage instead of 220 V is 380 V. Either the heating element, or the automation, or all together burns out.
  2. Poor water quality. Very often, water has a high concentration of calcium; at high temperatures it hardens and settles on the surface of the heating element. Calcium greatly impairs heat transfer, which significantly reduces heating efficiency. But these are not all the problems created by calcium solids. They provoke a significant increase in the heating temperature of the nichrome spiral; it is not designed for such modes and quickly burns out. The high temperature of the heating coil causes the metal casing to overheat - it also burns out.

What is it needed for?

Any washing machine is a technically complex device, the design of which includes many functional components. Each spare part is designed to perform specific tasks. For example, a heating element is a special heating element . It is he who is responsible for heating the water in the unit to the required temperature values.

In different machines this device is located in different places. There are 2 wires to the heating element. This spare part is attached to the bottom of the unit tank.

Without a heating element, the liquid in the device will not heat up, so if necessary, it is advisable to replace it without delay.

Troubleshooting

It is easy to understand that the heating element is broken. If, while draining dirty water, you touch the hose and it is cold, it’s time to change the heater. A few more signs:

  • Deterioration in wash quality. Even if you manually increase the temperature or change the detergent, the laundry will not get cleaner.
  • The amount of electricity consumed during washing has been reduced. 80% is exactly how much the automatic washing machine uses to heat water.
  • The device turns off on its own or the electrical protective equipment is triggered. This happens when the machine is filled with water. It is necessary to disconnect the machine from the power supply as quickly as possible and not turn it on until repaired.

Attention At the first sign of a short circuit, disconnect the electrical appliance from the network and, if you do not have experience in troubleshooting such problems, call an electrician. Many old houses do not have grounding, the risk of injury is high, so be extremely careful

But these signs are indirect. The heating element will still have to be checked (if it turns out to be serviceable, the help of a person with special technical education will be required, since there is a problem with the control electronics). Control is carried out according to 3 parameters:

  1. To break the chrome spiral. One of the most common reasons: the spiral burns out and the current stops passing through it. The test is carried out by ringing the element (when the tester leads are connected to both terminals of the spiral, and the switch is set to o). Has the needle suddenly dropped to zero? The spiral has clearly burned out.
  2. For breakdown of the hull. A dangerous malfunction, especially for residents of apartments without grounding and in houses with electrical wiring. In this case, the current enters the body, and a person faces a serious electric shock if he touches it. Connect the device to the terminal with one output, and the other to the body.

    Watch the arrow. If it stays at zero, everything is in order; if it deviates, the element requires replacement. The switch should be set to 200 Mohms. The test is carried out on a heated heating element: connect power to it for a few seconds, turn it off and proceed.

  3. Power check. This manipulation is not so necessary, but it won’t be superfluous either. Switch the tester to Amp AC mode. Connect all elements in order to the power source. An arrow pointing to 8A signals that everything is normal. If the current strength has decreased, the heating element has worn out to a critical state.

Signs and causes of malfunction

The likelihood of malfunctions depends on the correct operation of the equipment and the implementation of preventive measures.

The reasons for heater failure may be the following:

  1. Factory defect. This happens even with trusted manufacturers. The spiral burns out, holes are formed in the housing.
  2. Scale. During the washing process, insoluble salts settle on the heating element. When there are a lot of them, the element heats up longer, which leads to its combustion.
  3. Wear. Each product has its own resource. Constant temperature changes and metal fatigue lead to the destruction of the wire inside the sheath.
  4. Voltage fluctuations. Heating elements are designed to operate in a narrow range of current values. Exceeding its voltage and force disables the product.

Breakdowns on the Indesit washing machine are not uncommon. Based on this, it is not difficult to find the necessary replacement part on sale.

Part replacement

If you managed to purchase a similar working heating element for a Samsung washing machine, then it’s time to replace the burnt part and put the washing machine back into operation. We take a socket wrench and unscrew the nut that is located between the contacts of the heating element. This nut is the main fastening element that holds the heater, but in addition to the nut there is also a spacer inside, so we proceed like this:

  1. unscrew the nut;
  2. We take hold of the contacts of the heating element and slightly rock it from side to side;
  3. We take a small hammer and lightly hit the stud from which we twisted the nut;
  4. if everything is done correctly, the pin will partially fall inward;
  5. take a flat screwdriver and pry up the heating element as carefully as possible to dislodge it from its seat;
  6. pull the part by the contacts and pull the heating element out.

Having pulled out the old heating element, you can see what condition it is in. The part is almost certainly covered with a layer of scale, and in some places black spots are visible, which indicate that the heating element has burned out. We take a new heating element, check its resistance and make sure it is in good condition. Lubricate its rubber with a drop of machine oil, and then insert the new part into the tank of the Samsung machine. We put the temperature sensor in place, connect the wires to the contacts, and then reassemble the washing machine in the reverse order and check its operation.

Related Actions

During long-term operation, a fairly large amount of debris accumulates at the bottom of the tank of a Samsung washing machine: pieces of scale, clothing buttons, pins, paper clips, coins and other things. Over time, this debris can negatively affect the operation of the washing machine, so when changing the heating element, we will take the opportunity to remove all excess from the tank. The fact is that the hole in the heating element is quite large. Through it you can relatively easily penetrate inside the tank and remove everything unnecessary with a stick or fingers.

To make the task easier, experts advise taking a tablespoon, inserting it into the hole for the heating element and slowly pulling out all the debris from there. Remember, a washing tank without debris is the key to the normal operation of a Samsung washing machine, so do not neglect this important accompanying action, even if replacing the heating element is a priority. Happy renovation!

Visual assessment and installation

Having taken out the heating element, you can immediately understand, without any special equipment, what condition the part is in. We are 95% sure that there is scale on it, and if black spots are visible, the heating element is probably burnt out.

Installing the heating element is as simple as possible:

  1. Check the resistance of the new element with a tester. You need to make sure that the part is not defective.
  2. Lubricate the seal with grease or machine oil. WD-40 is ideal.
  3. Install the part in place of the old one.
  4. Reinsert the temperature sensor.
  5. Connect the wiring.

Now you know that replacing the heating element in a Samsung washing machine will not require any special tools or special skills: even a beginner can handle such repairs.

How to remove and replace

Unscrew the nut on the central screw of the heating element, but not all the way.

When it comes out a little, swing it from side to side and pull it towards you, without making much effort, so as not to damage parts of the unit. When the heating element is removed, carefully clean the cavity of scale as much as possible.

Make sure that the sealing rubber, which is located under the heating element, is in satisfactory condition, since often due to scale it becomes unusable and can no longer be used.

The rubber band should be smooth, and any remaining scale should be removed from it without difficulty.

Otherwise, it must be replaced to avoid a flood.

In the new heating element, we also push the screw all the way so that the sealing rubber goes in all the way.

When installing, we control the fit of the heating element; it should fit between the aluminum restrictive plates.

Please note: if installed incorrectly, the drum will rub against the heating element, which can damage it

If the drum touches the heating element, you will understand this by the characteristic sound.

Today we are changing the heating element on the Indesit WISL 82 washing machine. We tell and show how it is done.

1. According to the owner, the Indesit WISL 82 washing machine does not heat the water, stops on the “Wash” program, washes for hours and does not switch to the “Rinse” program. Moreover, if you manually set it to the “Rinse” program, then the rinsing and spinning takes place completely and the machine turns off. According to our assumptions, the heating element (heating element) has failed.

2. Set to the shortest “Everyday Wash” program in order to check whether there is voltage to the heating element or not.

3. Without turning off the washing machine, we begin to disassemble it. For this we need a Phillips screwdriver. We unscrew the bolts from the hatch at the back of the washing machine that hold the repair hatch.

4. After unscrewing the bolts, pull the hatch towards you a little and lower it down from the seats. We now have access to the main components of the unit.

5. While we were disassembling the washing machine, the heating time was approaching. We take an electronic measuring device and check the voltage supplied to the heating element. The device shows that voltage is present. This means that the control module is working properly. And we move on.

6. Turn off the washing machine by placing it on the drain. After the water leaves, unscrew the heating element using a wrench and an 8 mm socket, disconnect all the terminals connected to it.

7. Using a flat screwdriver, prying it under the heating element, we carefully remove it.

8. If it doesn’t work on one side, pry it off from the other side - in this particular situation we will use curved pliers.

9. Pull out the heating element from its seat.

10. Using an electronic measuring device, we check the heating element and see from the device that it is not ringing. Therefore he burned down.

11. Let's compare heating elements: the old heating element is covered in scale. This means that recently it took longer to heat the water and spent more electricity on it. Accordingly, it failed ahead of schedule. To prevent early breakdown and extend service life, you need to use anti-scale. But you shouldn’t use Calgon, since its principle of action is based on water softening, and any washing powder contains a water softener. To remove scale, in our case it is better to use citric acid or special products. By the way, they are cheaper than Calgon.

12. When installing a new heating element, we are especially careful. The heating element must fit into the mounts designed for it. We assemble the washing machine in reverse order.

13. Happy washing.

If you do not have a strong desire to repair your washing machine yourself and would be more willing to entrust the repair to a specialist, then we are at your service.

The design and principle of operation of the heating element

The heating element in a washing machine is an element that heats water to the required temperature in various washing programs. In warm or hot water, the chemical reagents of the washing powder react best with various types of contaminants, which leads to high-quality washing of clothes. For some fabrics, washing modes are provided only in cold water, so the heating element is not included in the work in such cases.

A heating element for a washing machine looks like a curved tube, inside of which a nichrome or fechral wire is placed. The space between the walls of the tube and the conductive thread is filled with a dielectric, which has sufficient thermal conductivity and resistance to high temperatures.

The most commonly used electrical material is peraclase (magnesium oxide). The heating element tube is soldered or welded to the contact pad on which the current-carrying terminals are mounted. Typically, contacts are made of copper plates for clamping. The length of the rods and the type of contact pad in washing machines may vary, but the general structure and operating principle are the same.

When an electric current passes through a filament with high resistance, it becomes very hot. Heat passing through the dielectric material and the metal tube is released into the environment. In a washing machine, this medium is water. As a result, the water temperature rises to the required value for a specific washing program, and then the heating element turns off.

A special temperature sensor (thermistor) is installed in the tank or heating element, which sends a signal to the control board when the required temperature is reached. The processor processes the signal and interrupts the voltage supply to the heating element. The processor also receives a signal from the water level sensor in the tank (pressure switch). It informs the central processor about the presence of water in the washing tank, and the temperature relay about its temperature. If necessary, the control processor turns on the heating element. In washing machines with electronic control, an electronic module is responsible for the operation of the heating element; in models with electromechanical control, a programmer is responsible.

How to remove the front panel

In any case, we start by removing the top cover of the washing machine. Unscrew the two screws on the back under the cover. Slide the cover to the back and remove.

If, after removing the top cover, it is not possible to visually determine on which side of the machine the heating element is installed, then remove the back cover.

If there is no heating element behind the machine, or if it was possible to determine from above that the heating element is located in front of the Samsung washing machine, then we follow the steps:

1. Take out the powder dispenser hopper and unscrew the two screws, as well as the screw on the right side of the control panel.

2. Unfasten the lower false panel. 3. Unscrew the lower fastening of the front panel.

4. Lifting the control panel, unscrew the screws securing the front panel.

5. Remove the outer collar of the hatch cuff by hooking it with a slotted screwdriver near the hinge of the hatch door.

6

We unscrew the hatch lock mount (you can leave it, but then be careful with the lock wires when removing the front panel). 7. Remove the front panel

Below in front of you is a heating element.

Where is the heating element located?

Replacing heating elements in Indesit brand washing machines is quite simple if you know how to hold a screwdriver and use a multimeter. In different cars, you have to get to the heating element in different ways when disassembling the equipment. Italian manufacturers took care of their consumers and installed the heating element in such a way that it can be reached by opening the back cover of the machine.

That is why such repairs are considered simple. The only drawback is that the washing machine is disconnected from all communications. This is necessary in order to turn the machine around at the back for repair work.

What is needed for replacement

Replacing the heating element on an Indesit washing machine will require a minimum of tools from you; as a rule, two screwdrivers are enough: flat and curly and a wrench with a head. You also need a multimeter or tester to check the functionality of the heating element. And, of course, original spare parts.

An original Italian-made heating element, depending on the model of the washing machine, costs from 700 to 1000 rubles, maybe a little more. It’s better to save on the work of a technician and try to remove and replace the heating element yourself. Of course, if the car is under warranty, then call a service center specialist, such repairs will be free.

Replacing the cuff (sealing rubber of the hatch)

When the cuff is even slightly damaged (and the machine leaks slightly), it is better to replace it immediately: there is a risk of flooding the neighbors.

1. First, remove the hatch; to do this, you only need to unscrew two screws.

A case from one's life

My friends' Indesit washing machine broke down after 12 years of impeccable service. The master was called. The master replaced the heating element and brushes and charged 2,400 rubles for the work. - and 4700 rubles. for spare parts. In total, they paid 7,100 rubles for repairs. This happens, but, in my opinion, at such costs it is better to buy a new car or look for a more affordable repair.

Find a master who will do it cheaper

If you call a washing machine repairman from a normal company, he will come and diagnose the breakdown for free. And then you decide whether to repair the machine or throw it away. For example: replacing a heating element in an Indesit brand machine will cost you 500 rubles. for the work of the master plus 700 rubles. there is a new heating element. Total - 1200 rub. Replacing brushes in the engine - 1200 rubles. for work plus 300-500 rubles. for new brushes.

Buy a used washing machine with a guarantee with this money

In Moscow there is a secondary market for washing machines. Several companies sell used cars, giving them a warranty from 3 months to 2 years. A fairly new Indesit machine (used) costs from 6,000 to 8,000 rubles.

Please note: the cost of spare parts for washing machines in different stores may vary by 1.5-2 times. For example, a heating element for Indesit costs on average 700 rubles, but if you search, you can find it at a discount for 400 rubles

Well, if you didn’t succeed in bringing the machine back to life, you can still give it another chance to serve you faithfully. For information on how to do this, read the materials:

Replacing the heating element in a washing machine

We discussed why a heating element is needed in a washing machine, and why we cannot get rid of it yet. We have a regular boiler inside the device, which brings the temperature to the set temperature. To be fair, let’s say that there is not always a regular spiral, which is often shown in Calgon advertisements. There are also washing machines equipped with instantaneous water heaters. This allows you to complete the cycle much faster, but is accompanied by some technical difficulties in implementing the idea itself.

To be fair, let’s say that washing machines, unlike dishwashers, most often have heating elements. That is, tubular electric heaters that have nothing to do with induction, but are made in the form of traditional spirals of various shapes. However, there is one caveat:

The heating element of a washing machine for water is usually located at the bottom of the tank, somewhere under the drum (maybe a little on the side). At the same time, the heating element for air is usually located in the upper part of the housing in the area of the air duct. Any of them may require replacement. The typical price of a heating element for a water washing machine is about 1000 rubles. Of course, the cost of the issue largely depends on the brand of the device. It is also worth mentioning that in old washing machines there was an induction water heater that worked like a transformer, the secondary winding of which was a coil of aluminum wound (on an insulator) around a steel tube. Foucault's currents quickly heated the iron, and from it, the water.

And here are the first instructions! First of all, you need to look at what type of heating element the washing machine has. The easiest way to do this is to disassemble the case. In this case, the heating element is removed from the tank; there will probably be inscriptions on it that will tell you what kind of model it is. The second thing we do is check to see if there is any protection on the heating element. These are usually some kind of tubular structures that are not spiral and reinforced with steel clamps. There are at least three types of heating element protection:

  1. Bimetallic. This triggers the microswitch, which is located outside the heating element and is visible to the eye. The causes of the malfunction are usually the following: scale deposits or switching on with an empty tank. In any case, the carbon deposits are removed and the microswitch returns to its original state. There is some chance that the heating element of the washing machine is operational again.
  2. The solder protection releases, due to melting, a ceramic rod on a spring, which opens the relay inside the heating element housing. The device will have to be disassembled and the rod shortened. In the future, protection against overheating is no longer guaranteed.
  3. In the simplest case, there is a regular thermal fuse inside the tube attached to the heating element of the washing machine. It needs to be replaced.

The repair is quite simple. Don't forget to stock up on waterproof sealant, one that is not afraid of heat and will not cause allergic reactions. We have already raised this topic, but you can’t keep everything in your head. It is allowed to use Poxipol for the washing machine, which is NOT intended for food containers. During washing, a large amount of harmful substances will not be released. It's another matter if there is a turbo dryer. Here the dose of formaldehyde in the air is guaranteed, and it is better not to use Poxipol.

Please note that we have not yet told you how to change the TEN yourself. There is no such thing in nature

Also, do not try to buy a heating element for your washing machine in an online store. Good luck!

If suddenly such a nuisance happened that your washing machine stopped heating the water, then most likely the heating element has failed.

You will learn how to replace the heating element of a washing machine yourself in this article.

The premature failure of a water heating device does not mean that its quality was low. As a rule, the heating element stops working in the following cases:

  • a layer of scale has formed on the surface. The water of our centralized systems contains a certain amount of insoluble salts, which settle on the body of the device, forming stones. The thicker their layer, the more difficult it is for the heating element to maintain the specified temperature; this requires more electrical energy and time. Ten eventually burns out;
  • Due to a short circuit, the contacts may be damaged. The fact is that changes in the electrical network can be so sharp that the electrical noise filter does not suppress them every time, and the contacts burn out;
  • natural wear and tear. The water heater regularly warms up and cools down and is in active operation. Accordingly, its service life is not so long.

Checking the heating element

You can start checking the heating element even before this part is completely disconnected from the wires and removed from the tank of the Samsung car. To quickly assess the performance of the heater, you can use any resistance measuring device. The most suitable and inexpensive device that allows you to “ring” this part is a multimeter.

At the moment when the heater burns out, the spiral breaks inside the tubular element, so this malfunction can be determined if the measuring device shows the presence of zero resistance between the terminals. In order not to obtain incorrect information, it is necessary to switch the device to the mode of changing the resistance, connect both probes to check its functionality and then apply them to the contacts of the electrical element. If the device does not respond to the touch of the probes to the “legs” of this part, then you can proceed to the next stage of repairing the Samsung washing machine. Otherwise, you will need to check the temperature sensor or control unit of the household appliance.

How to understand that a part needs to be changed

Signals of problems with the heating element are:

  • the water does not heat up during the washing process (easy to check by placing your hand on the sunroof glass);
  • the machine draws water, but turns off five minutes after the start of the wash;
  • when you turn on the washing machine, the plugs in the panel are knocked out;
  • During washing, the machine emits an unpleasant burnt smell;
  • when touched, the body is pierced with electric current;
  • The electronic display of the washing machine displays error codes related to water heating.

It is possible to understand whether the problems that have arisen really require replacing the heating element only by testing the heating element with a special device - a multimeter.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. Disconnect the heating element from all wires.
  2. We switch the multimeter to resistance measurement mode (200 Ohm range).
  3. We apply the multimeter probes to the extreme contacts of the heating element and look at the tester readings. “Zero” on the tester display indicates a short circuit has occurred, “one” or “infinity” indicates a break in the conductive thread. In any of these cases, the heating element must be replaced with a new element.

If, when you touch the contacts with the probe, readings close to the calculated ones are displayed on the multimeter screen (defined as the network voltage squared and divided by the power of the heating element), then the heating element is working and there is no need to change it.

Testing of the heating element is carried out only after the washing machine is turned off from the network.

Prevention

Do not forget about preventive measures regarding the Indesit washing machine. Having replaced the old heating element with a new one, maintenance of the tank will be required in order to remove the dangerous deposits accumulated there. The tank may contain solid impurities in the form of scale. Sometimes undigested fats from things are deposited there (in the form of mucus). This fat gives off an unpleasant odor.

Preventive measures should be carried out periodically, depending on how often you run the wash and at what temperature conditions. So, to prevent the formation of deposits in Indesit machines, it is recommended to do the following.

  • A special salt filter will need to be installed in the operating water supply gap. This must be a high-quality softener, which will always need to be replaced in a timely manner.
  • For washing, it is recommended to use only high-quality powders and gel compositions - with their use, heating elements and other components of washing machines last much longer.
  • Do not forget to carry out periodic preventative maintenance on your appliances against scale by using specialized products sold in many retail outlets. People often use folk remedies, such as vinegar or citric acid, which easily remove excess fat deposits and scale. But we must take into account that no one can say for sure how these chemical compositions can affect the condition of the rubber elements and seals of the machine.
  • Do not overdo it with too frequent wash cycles using high temperature water. Detergents produced by modern manufacturers can effectively combat most contaminants at low temperatures. Thus, washing clothes is more gentle and gentle.
  • You should always keep the condition of your household appliances under control. Of course, many users do not delve into possible problems and think about them only when they encounter them. It is advisable to check from time to time whether all components of the unit are working properly and whether there are any malfunctions.

Useful tips

A heating element is a device that heats water in a washing machine.

The washing process depends on the water temperature of the program you initially set.

It is such a device as a heating element that can heat the water in the washing structure to the temperature you need.

It is easier to prevent a breakdown than to waste time and money on repairs. Washing should be done with high-quality powder that contains anti-scale additives. To soften the water, you can install a special flow filter. Periodically, depending on the level of liquid hardness, it is recommended to carry out preventive cleaning of the heating element from scale.

Following these simple rules will extend the life of the heater and eliminate unpleasant surprises associated with its burnout.

Replacing the heating element

First you need to find out where the heating element is located. If this information is not in the technical documentation, then a visual inspection of the washing machine should be carried out. Different manufacturers place heating elements from the front or rear of the main unit. The heating element is usually located at the bottom of the machine. If the back cover is of impressive size, then the heating element is most likely located in the rear compartment.

In any case, the back cover is easier to dismantle, so it is recommended to remove it first. If the heating element is not here, then putting the lid back will not be difficult. The heating element is located below the tank. The main tube is hidden in the body of the tank.

Dismantling work will require certain skills. If you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to use the services of our masters.

After discovering the heating element, you need to dismantle it. The procedure is performed in the following sequence:

  • Disconnect the washing machine from the network;
  • Get rid of residual water by unscrewing the drain filter cap;
  • Remove the terminals from the heating element;
  • Unscrew the central fastening nut;
  • The axle on which the washer and nut are attached must be pressed inward by pressing firmly or gently tapping with a hammer;
  • The heating element “sits” on the seal; it complicates the removal of the heater. The seal must be pryed off from all sides one by one.

After dismantling the heater, you can begin installing a new heating element.

Important! The heating element must be installed in the same position as its predecessor was. For normal operation, it must stand level, without distortions or displacements.

Then tighten the nut and assemble the machine in the reverse order.

The operation of the heating element can be checked by running the washing machine in a washing mode of at least 60 C. During normal operation, after a few minutes the loading hatch window should become warm.

Self-repair instructions

The procedure for replacing the heating element of a washing machine is as follows:

First determine which side the heater is located on. Move the body away from the wall and turn it towards you. If the back cover is large, most likely the heating element is squeezed under the tank from the back side. There will be less work here. If the lid is medium in size, through it you can only get to the washing machine belt, and the heating element is clearly located below, but in front. You will have to completely disassemble the front panel, which will take more time than in the first case. Having determined the position of the heater, it’s time to move on to disassembling the housing (you can see instructions for disassembling washing machines of different brands here). First, unplug the device to avoid electric shock. If the heating element is located at the rear, disconnect the water supply, drain hose, drain the remaining water from the machine (this can be done by lowering the drain pipe below the level of the device body or using a special drain filter). Then there are 2 options: If the heating element is behind the back cover, remove it. If it is behind the front, remove the lid from above, pull out the tray into which detergents are poured (it is attached with self-tapping screws and secured with a latch

Carefully disconnect it too). Pull the steel hoop off the seal

It is held by a spring - stretch it a little. Next, remove the seal, the door blocker (disconnect the wires from the blocker), and remove the front panel.

The next step is replacing the heating element. It is held in place by only one nut, but before unscrewing it, disconnect the power terminals, wires from the temperature sensor, and grounding. To unscrew the nut, take a socket wrench (if you don’t have one, take an open-end wrench). Unscrew the nut slightly (not all the way, but to the length of the thread), then, pressing the pin inward (this will allow you to pull the part out of the seat), unscrew the nut completely. Use a screwdriver to pry the heating element around the perimeter and slowly tear it away from the rubber. This is done with loosening movements. Check its functionality. When you go shopping for a new heater, take your old one with you. This will allow you not to make a mistake when choosing a new one, because different heating elements are produced for each model. The part may differ by literally a few centimeters or even millimeters. This is done in order to assign a new series to a line of devices and sell them at a new, higher price. And heating elements are no longer interchangeable. Over time, the installation site becomes covered with a layer of calcium and carbon deposits, so it must be cleaned before work. Do not ignore the tank (how to repair a washing machine tank with your own hands?). Help yourself with a flashlight. Loosen the nut and insert the new heater into place. Tighten and connect all wires. Carry out a test: pour a little water into the tank, turn on the heat for a few seconds. After turning it off, touch the heating element. If it is warm and there are no water leaks, screw on the remaining parts.

How to determine where the heater is located

The heating element is located at the bottom of the tank. Depending on the manufacturer of the equipment, the heating element may be located in the front or rear of the housing. Most brands, such as Candy, Indesit, Zanussi, Ariston, Electrolux, Atlant, provide access to the heater through the back panel of the washing machine. Companies Samsung, Bosch, LG place heating elements in the front part, under the drum.

In washing machines from Samsung, Bosch and LG, the heater is usually located at the front

To determine the location of the part, you need to look at the size of the back panel of the machine. If there is a large removable surface at the back, then the heating element is most likely located there. If only a small cover can be unscrewed on the rear panel, then the exit to the heating element should be sought through the front panel. It is not always possible to determine the location of a part by external signs, so it is best to start looking for the location from the back - it is easier to remove it and screw it in place.

Preparation for repair

Before starting repair work, the washing machine must be disconnected from the water supply and electrical systems. To ensure easy access, the machine is moved to an open and spacious area.

To perform the work you will need to prepare the necessary tools:

  • screwdriver - flat and Phillips;
  • wrench;
  • a device for measuring current resistance - a multimeter.

In Hotpoint Ariston washing machines, the heating element is located on the back of the body. To open access to the heating element, you will need to remove the back wall of the machine body. The heating element itself will be located below, under the water container. For some models, you do not have to remove the entire back wall; to replace the heating element, you will only need to remove a small plug to open an inspection window, where in the right corner you can see the element you are looking for.

When all the preparatory work has been completed, you can begin to dismantle and replace the heating element.

Heating element device

In washing machines, a heating element is used as a heating element, which is presented in the form of a curved tube. Inside this part there is an incandescent coil, which is separated from the body of the tube by dielectric powder. The reasons for the failure of the heating element are considered to be:

  • Long service life (after repeated heating and cooling, the spiral simply collapses);
  • The appearance of scale on the tube. If the machine is connected to a centralized water supply, then after several acts of operation, scale remains on the tube, since the tap water is hard. The appearance of scale can be prevented by using water softeners.

In addition, scale reduces the efficiency of the heating element, the water heats up more slowly, and the energy consumption of the machine increases.

What is it, why is it needed?

A tubular electric heater (TEH) is an element that represents a hollow tube (curved in a w-shape or v-shape), inside of which there is a spiral.
For better heat transfer, the free space inside the tube is filled with a dielectric insulator (crystalline magnesium oxide). It is this that accumulates the heat emanating from the spiral and transfers it to the outer shell of the tube. On the outside, the heating element tube is coated with a protective anodized layer. The ends of the spiral in the tube are soldered to the contacts through which electricity flows. Nearby there is a thermal unit that measures the degree of heating of the water in the washing machine.

The main purpose of the heating element is to heat the water in the washing machine to the required temperature by converting electricity into heat.

When the washing machine starts, a signal is sent to the heating element through the control unit. The tube begins to heat up, bringing the water temperature to the value specified by the program. As soon as the water warms up to the required temperature, the thermostat is activated. It transmits a signal to the control unit, which turns off the heating element, thereby stopping water heating.

Work order

And finally, we will describe the procedure for replacing the heating element.

  1. Disconnect the car from the network, sewer, or water supply.
  2. Turn the machine towards you with the back wall.
  3. Unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the cover with a figured screwdriver.
  4. Below, under the tank, find the contacts coming from the heating element and apply the multimeter probes to them. Normally, the resistance should be 25-35 Ohms, otherwise the part is faulty.
  5. Disconnect all wires with terminals, remembering their position.
  6. Using a socket wrench, unscrew the nut on the bolt, the end of which sticks out directly in the center of the base of the heating element.
  7. Gently tap the bolt until it fits inside the hole.
  8. Hook the base of the heating element with a flat screwdriver and pull it out towards you.
  9. Take a new heating element and replace the temperature sensor into it, which must be removed from the old heating element.
  10. Using a rag, clean the seat under the heating element from debris.
  11. Place the heating element in place and secure it with the bolt.
  12. Connect the wires and close the back cover of the washing machine.
  13. Connect the machine to communications.

So, as you can see, removing and replacing the heating element is not difficult. After replacement, check the functionality of the equipment. Good luck!

How to replace with a new one?

To replace an old and faulty part with a new one, you will need to purchase a suitable replacement. Visit a specialized store and name the model of your Indesit washing machine. Buy only high-quality heating elements that are in perfect condition

If you save on the purchase of this important functional element, repeated repair work may be required later

Let's consider how the heating element should be replaced in branded household appliances from Indesit.

  • Inspect the location of the heating element in the tank of the machine. If you notice dirt in this place, you definitely need to get rid of it. Clean the desired areas thoroughly.
  • Remove the special finger-type temperature sensor from the old heater. Clean it and insert it into the new element until it stops.
  • Replace the Indesit washing machine heater by tightening the nut and putting the correct wires back on. At this point, you may need photographs taken during the disassembly of the equipment.
  • Do not secure the back cover until you are sure there are no leaks. Connect the equipment and set it to an accelerated washing or rinsing program. If no leaks are found, the machine can be fully assembled.

As you can understand, removing and installing a heating element yourself is not the most difficult thing. The main thing is to act carefully and take your time. It is not recommended to roughly disconnect parts in the machine’s structure, even if they are “hard to give in.” If you follow these simple rules, the average home handyman will be able to successfully change the heating element without negative consequences.

If you do not dare to change the heating element in your washing machine yourself or do not have such an opportunity, then it is better not to risk the equipment. Contact experienced repair technicians or contact the Indesit service center.
