How to neutralize the smell of perfume: how to remove perfume from clothes and body - ways to get rid of the aroma in the room

Have you already fully enjoyed the aroma, but it continues to stay with you? A familiar story, but there is no reason to be nervous, because we will tell you how to neutralize the smell of perfume: on your skin, clothes, indoors. Maximum useful information from the Aromacode online store, and only working, simple and safe methods so that you can finally forget about the boring flair and bloom and smell again exactly the way you want.

Let's immediately note two common mistakes. Firstly, you should not apply new eau de toilette on top of the old one that is still audible - the combination will be unpredictable. Secondly, there is no need to try to drown out the previous aroma, and for a similar reason - in response you will receive a powerful, but most likely unpleasant trail.

It’s good that there are much more effective methods, and there are several of them at once - you can choose.

Why does the smell of perfume eat away?

You've probably noticed that perfume stays on the body for a relatively short time, while sweaters, scarves and other things “wear” it for days on end. What is the reason? In the structure of the surfaces of wardrobe items, which can be knitted or sewn, but in any case perfectly retain the base of eau de toilette - essential oils. The molecules of the latter remain for a long time in fabric or synthetics, but do not linger so well on our epithelium, because it is smooth, plus, we swim and are exposed to wind, ultraviolet radiation and other external factors.

The most “corrosive” are fur and wool - they keep a trail for weeks, but they can also be cleaned.

Reasons for appearance

All apartments and houses have an individual smell, which is formed by the peculiarities of life of the inhabitants. Clothes and linens locked in closets are constantly crowded into a limited space. To know how to effectively remove unpleasant odor from things, you need to know why it appears.

Stuffiness

Stuffiness, lack of freshness and oxygen flow lead to stagnation of air, accumulation and retention of special odors inside the wardrobe that come from rooms and from clothes. Foreign matter is locked in the closet and saturates clothes and linens.

Dust

Small particles of dust, dirt and debris are present on worn clothes placed in the closet, and also penetrate from the premises. They can introduce various unpleasant odors onto clean laundry.

Bacteria

Ubiquitous bacteria are found everywhere - in dust, undried laundry, washed and worn clothes. Their waste products have various unpleasant odors, which intensify during long-term storage.

Tobacco smoke

Tobacco smoke permeates clothes and spreads throughout the closet. The old smell of tobacco can become dominant in the apartment, and it is not easy to get rid of it if someone in the apartment constantly smokes.

Old clothes

Old things stored in closets for a long time collect all the aromas in the apartment. Large items smell especially strongly - old coats with synthetic and natural fur, blankets, fur coats. When stored for a long time, the smell of old age and mustiness appears; even washed items acquire the specific aroma of attics and basements with old stuff.

Ironing

It is very difficult to steam things while ironing until all the water comes out. If piles of laundry are immediately put into storage, the folded items will take a long time to dry. Washed laundry will smell musty and damp.

How to remove perfume smell from body

Longevity is a wonderful quality of a branded and high-status perfume: it’s great when it is fully revealed and does not have to be renewed every couple of hours. But what to do when you already want (or need) to change the scent, but it still remains even after taking a shower?

We bring to your attention proven methods to help get rid of annoying or inappropriate plume. There are 6 of them in total, and we will look at each one.

Use alcohol

Radical, but effective. Attention, the method is designed for oily or normal skin, but is not suitable for sensitive or dry skin. But bringing it to life is very simple - you just need to take just a few steps:

  1. Take a cotton swab.
  2. Moisten it without sparing medical alcohol.
  3. Wipe the areas where you applied eau de toilette.
  4. Wash these areas and lubricate them with moisturizer.

The no longer needed aroma will disappear.

Apply soap

Take baby product if the previous method is not for you - it is gentle and will definitely not cause irritation or other unpleasant sensations. Or give preference to tar if you are not afraid of drying out your skin.

This is the simplest answer to the question of how to remove the smell of perfume from your hands. But you can also choose a more useful method.

Apply scrub

It will remove the train and cleanse the pores, and reasonable peeling has never harmed anyone. Yes, you will have to spend some time wearing the mask to let it work, but take it as self-care, and with such a positive attitude, be sure to turn this process into pleasure.

Please note, this is not purchased cosmetics with its chemistry, but a 100% natural and eco-friendly coffee composition that you will make yourself - for this:

  1. Pour boiling water over the grains.
  2. Let the resulting mixture cool and brew at the same time.

That's all, all that remains is to carefully (but without fanaticism) rub the areas where the eau de toilette was applied with such a scrub and wait 15-20 minutes for it to have an effect. Afterwards you just need to take a shower.

Use vinegar

Here's the key to quickly getting rid of perfume smell on your body when previous methods haven't worked. True, this method will be convenient only if the aroma remains in a relatively small area, but not on the face.

It’s very simple to implement this method – just:

  1. Take regular 6% table vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio and mix.
  2. Moisten the sponge with the resulting solution and wipe the problem area with it.
  3. Rinse off the homemade product, preferably in the shower, using gel.
  4. Lubricate the treated area with a moisturizing cream.

All this will only take a few minutes, but the result will be very effective.

By the way, our grandmothers knew very well how to remove the persistent smell of perfume from their hair - with simple apple cider vinegar: it never tired of helping where the cosmetics of those times failed. Two tablespoons of it should be poured into 400-500 milliliters of water, stirred and rinsed with the resulting conditioner, attention, after washing it with shampoo.

Such therapy will not only eliminate the seemingly ingrained aroma forever, but will also give the curls additional shine - just “2 in 1”. There is no harm (due to the low concentration of acid), it is 100% natural, and you will hear the benefits (and see them in your hair) almost immediately.

Use a lemon

This citrus will be an excellent alternative to vinegar. If you don’t know how to neutralize the smell of perfume at home, just take this sunny yellow fruit out of the refrigerator, cut off a slice and rub it on your skin. But just remember the drying effect, don't overdo it. The released juice will dispel the annoying aroma, and washing it off will not be difficult.

Apply baking soda

Naturally, not in its pure form, because it is an alkali. It is necessary to make a viscous mass by pouring water into it and kneading until a suitable consistency is achieved. Spread the resulting mixture evenly over the desired area, let it sit for a minute, then rinse off.

And, as a bonus, another cleansing procedure. You can also take a hot bath: a few drops of aromatic oils, a little sea salt - and enjoy for 20 minutes. And then use a washcloth and stand under a contrast shower.

Features of getting rid of unpleasant odors in different rooms

Each room in the apartment has its own functional purpose. The smells in these rooms can be very different.

  1. The kitchen has odors of food and cigarettes (if people smoke in it), which eat into the furniture, curtains, wallpaper and are very difficult to remove. In order to prevent the appearance of odors, during cooking it is necessary to turn on the hood and regularly ventilate the room. If the food does burn, you should immediately lay wet towels around the room and open the windows. After the fumes have gone away, the curtains need to be washed and the table and chairs wiped with a solution of salt, vinegar or lemon.
  2. The bathroom usually smells musty if there is mold and bacteria in it. To prevent the spread of these bacteria, you need to regularly carry out wet cleaning using citric acid or chlorinated water. If an unpleasant odor comes from the sewer, then you need to pour boiling water into the drains, to which a few tablespoons of table vinegar have been added, and leave it for 2-3 hours. To improve the effect, you can add baking soda first. The tile is treated with a napkin soaked in essential oils. If there is a stench from the toilet, you can assume that a urinary stone has accumulated in the knee. It is dissolved by chlorine-based chemicals which must be left for at least 3 hours.
  3. The room usually does not have any specific odors. You can restore freshness to the room by wet cleaning with the addition of potassium permanganate or vinegar. The cabinet shelves should be wiped with a damp cloth or napkins, and all items should be ventilated. In order for the aroma to be preserved, dry bergamot, coffee beans, and rose petals placed in fabric bags are placed inside.
  4. The corridor/hallway most often has an unpleasant odor from shoes. To avoid such a problem, you need to dry it in time, treat it with special deodorants and sprays that have disinfectant properties. Before storing shoes for long-term storage, place adsorbent or rolled newspaper inside them.

You can remove an unpleasant odor from your apartment at home if you have a set of products and home remedies for this. Almost all of them are inexpensive and your budget will not suffer major losses from their purchase. With a little effort, you can restore pleasant freshness to your apartment, and with the help of aromatic products you can create a cozy atmosphere. You must remember to regularly wet clean the apartment, carefully treat hard-to-reach places, and wash curtains and linen. In order to maintain an optimal microclimate in the house, it is necessary that ventilation and plumbing work properly. To do this, they need to be periodically checked and preventatively cleaned.

How to get rid of perfume smell on clothes

If your hat, T-shirt or blouse retains an old train and does not smell as fragrant as you want, try one of the following measures:

  • hang this thing on the balcony for 2-3 days, fresh air;
  • treat the wardrobe item with a special spray; Of course, you will have to spend money on buying it;
  • wash a sleeve, collar or cuff - this is suitable when the aroma remains only in a certain area;
  • go to a dry cleaner if you have something made of wool or fur, but this also involves financial expenses.

If one of these options does not suit you for some reason (inconvenient, does not help, etc.), there are two more methods, and we move on to the first of them.

Handwash

If you don’t know how to remove the smell of perfume from clothes, and you are rightly afraid that the spinning and drying modes will damage a very delicate item, do this:

  1. Take soap, only neutral, so that it does not have a fragrant trail (which can be the next problem).
  2. Carefully treat the areas that smell the most, making sure to rub them thoroughly.
  3. Rinse the item of clothing in warm water three times: the first time to wash off excess foam, the second time with vinegar (at the rate of 1 glass of 6% per 5 liters), the third time just to clean it.
  4. Place the jacket (hat, blouse) in the drying cabinet; Carefully and evenly place aromatic sachets (bags) or napkins in it if you want to add a new bouquet, or do not put anything if you want pristine freshness.

Machine washable

Here is the answer to how to quickly remove the smell of perfume from clothes that are not afraid of high temperatures and spinning. You just need to load them into the automatic washing machine, add the appropriate powder and pour in a little fabric softener. These household chemicals should cope with the annoying aroma.

To consolidate the effect, you need to rinse the item according to the scheme we have already given, that is, three times. Then it should be dried, ideally in the open air.

All these operations will take a little time, we can’t say the exact time offhand, because everything depends on the selected mode, the weather outside the window and other conditions, but if you do everything correctly, you will have to wait to a minimum.

The conversation about how to remove the smell of perfume from clothes deserves special attention. It would seem that everything is simple - hang blouses and blouses on the street and be patient. But in practice, nuances arise. Therefore, we are happy to share some life hacks with you - here are a couple of them:

  • Pre-soak things for 30 minutes - this will increase the intensity of aroma volatilization.
  • Drop a little vinegar or other harmless active ingredient onto a clean cloth and lightly run it over your wardrobe before putting it on the clothesline - this will cut drying time to 3-4 hours.

This is also one of the best methods for coats, muffs, coats, collars and other items made of wool and fur. It captivates with its versatility and is not suitable only when time is running out or there is precipitation outside.

The most effective ways to do this

Baking soda - to do this, place a box of baking soda directly on your clothes for a couple of hours and it will absorb all foreign and unpleasant odors of perfume. There is no need to soak things in a soda solution. Weathering - to do this, you first need to soak things for a while, and then hang them in fresh air so that the clothes are weathered from all sides. The effect will increase and occur faster if the sun's rays shine at this time. But this method will take several days, and the weather must be taken into account if the clothes are hanging outdoors.

The next no less effective method is washing, and it is also the fastest of all. In this case, you need to use more liquid or powder detergent and fabric softener. If this method turned out to be not effective enough, you can rinse things in a vinegar solution, but it also has its own unpleasant and pungent odor, so after using it, rinse things thoroughly in cold water, preferably several times.

Soap solution - this was always done when there were no machines for washing clothes, or the funds to purchase one. This method will take a lot of time and effort, so it is not suitable for every housewife. To do this, wet the desired item in a basin, rub it with soap and hand wash it. Places where there is the most odor are lathered more thoroughly and intensively. And for greater effect, rinsing can be done in water with vinegar added to it. Dry cleaning is a universal method, especially if you don’t have enough for all of the above methods. Dry cleaning will completely and forever get rid of unwanted odors, but this requires some money.

You can also purchase a special odor eliminater; it will help remove the unpleasant odors of your perfume from things. There are a sufficient number of such products in markets and stores and they are presented in different variations. The most popular of them are liquid for rinsing clothes, for use in dryers, various sprays and conditioners.

How to neutralize the smell of perfume indoors

What to do if you accidentally break a whole bottle of perfume or accidentally spill eau de toilette? The aroma will be very powerful and, perhaps, even suffocating, and this is not only unpleasant, but also dangerous for the health of asthmatics or allergy sufferers.

Let us note right away: if a particular object, for example, an armchair or a carpet, smells too much, it is better to simply take it outside. If this is not possible, let’s say a closet, it weighs too much and disassembling it is long and difficult, you should clean everything around it.

Even if spring cleaning doesn’t help, there is a way out. You can do one of the following:

  • Opening all the windows is a quick and easy way to get rid of perfume in a room, and is especially effective when it's windy outside. Natural ventilation will be the best hood.
  • Place a plate or other fairly deep container half filled with cold water next to the source of the problem, and finely chop the onion into it. The vapors from the vegetable will absorb even a powerful plume and dissipate over time.
  • Burn a few matches, or even better, scented candles or, as a last resort, a sheet of paper (the latter must be in a metal can or urn, so as not to risk it). Smoke will be a great help, but it is better if it is pleasant to your sense of smell.

Room

It is not advisable to stay in a room where perfume has been spilled for a long time. Fragrant vapors have a particularly adverse effect on the health of allergy sufferers and people suffering from bronchial asthma.

If the source of the smell can be removed (for example, perfume got on a pillow, chair, armchair), it is better to take the piece of furniture outside to air it out. In other cases, you need to place a container of water near the source of aroma, which will absorb volatile substances.

Wash the floor with a detergent without intense odor, without chlorine or fragrance. Layering multiple scents can cause headaches and make the situation even worse.

Odor can only be removed from carpeting or upholstered furniture using the wet method. The area is washed with detergent and then blotted with paper or newspapers, making an effort to absorb the moisture. When the liquid stops being absorbed, place all used newspapers in a plastic bag, tie it tightly and throw it in the trash.

A few more ways:

How to remove perfume smell from leather and fabric furniture

If perfume is accidentally or carelessly poured onto the set and gets on the upholstery, you need to quickly neutralize its effect before it gets stuck. To do this, use one of the proven adsorbents:

  • Baking soda, which is especially effective on light-colored surfaces. You just need to cover the stained areas with it and let it work for 2-3 hours. Next, you just need to carefully wipe off its remnants with a dry cloth.
  • Ground coffee beans - and they are already suitable for dark things. Do the same as in the previous point, only wait 60-100 minutes longer. But this is a more gentle remedy.

The situation with fairly high-quality leatherette is even simpler: it needs to be treated with weak solutions of neutral soap.

Now let's see how to neutralize the smell of perfume that gets on the floor, because this is somewhat more complicated. You need to take vinegar 6% and warm water in a ratio of 1 to 1, mix and wash the parquet (laminate, linoleum - suitable for all surfaces) with the resulting solution. Well, then generously pour the same baking soda onto the problem areas, and after a couple of hours remove its remnants.

Only household chemicals can deal with the carpet, so you need to either go to a dry cleaner, or buy a specialized product like Vanish, wash the “affected” areas with it, and then cover these areas with paper for blotting and absorption. The drying process is not instantaneous, so you will have to be patient.

And finally, how to remove the smell of perfume from a room if it has already “settled” on the wallpaper. You need to do the following:

  • Wipe off dust from the walls with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Dilute 10 ml of vinegar (attention, concentration 9%) in 200 ml of water.
  • Apply the resulting mixture with a sponge, carefully and evenly, to problem areas.
  • Wait until the surfaces are completely dry.

Plastic furniture is a special case when you can relax, because it is a material that does not accumulate aromas. Wash your interior items and don't worry about anything.

And there is a situation when you need to forget about the old train for a very practical and rational, but very specific reason.

How to clean an atomizer?

Such a mobile accessory for storing fragrances is considered disposable - as soon as the portion of perfume or eau de toilette collected inside is used, it must be thrown away, and a new bottle must be used for a new fragrance. But if you decide to reuse it, the accessory must be thoroughly rinsed to infuse a different scent into it:

  • With removable spray bottle. A glass flask is easier to clean; plastic instantly absorbs odors and does not erode well. The tank must be disassembled and washed with alcohol, vinegar, soda, mustard, and dishwashing detergent. In addition to the vessel itself, it is necessary to rinse the sprayer by spraying several sprays through it. Then, when disassembled, the accessory should be laid out on a clean napkin and dried for several days so that the aroma completely evaporates. Very persistent perfumes can take 2-3 months or more to evaporate.
  • The self-refilling atomizer is completely sealed; it cannot be opened, and therefore cannot be washed. A non-removable accessory is disposable and cannot be refilled. It can only be reused for the same flavor. If the inner flask leaks, it cannot be reused. Damage may occur when attempting to open the tank or from impact.

How to remove the smell of perfume from a bottle

This question is relevant when perfume is bought in bulk, each time in the same vessel. Indeed, there is no need to change it, you can save money. So that the previous toilet water does not sound in the container and does not overlap, does not distort the notes of the new one, it is necessary to eliminate all traces of its presence. To do this, you must first remove the atomizer, and then implement one of the following methods:

  • Fill the bottle with soda solution for 24 hours.
  • fill the mini-container with boiling water, wait a few minutes, and then wash with tar soap; and repeat this procedure 5 times - yes, it’s long, but it’s effective.
  • treat all internal surfaces with vodka (or its forty-degree equivalent), do the same with the dispenser, but then, of course, ventilate them thoroughly.
  • add vinegar with hot water (50/50 ratio), wait until it all cools down, rinse.
  • use dishwashing detergent as a cleaner (the main thing is that it does not have a strong aroma).

Choose the option that is most convenient for you and for your specific case.

How to remove the smell of perfume from your body

Much depends on the strength of the perfume:

  • It is relatively easy to “remove” fresh and weak powders – you just need to wash the application areas well with neutral soap.
  • A viscous mass of soda or coffee grounds is designed to help eliminate medium-resistant spots - make a paste, apply it to problem spots, wait 15-30 minutes, carefully shake off the residue.
  • For the most powerful eau de toilette, vinegar is used, usually apple (table) vinegar.

Bottle

In order not to spend money on buying a new container for bottled perfume every time, you can try to neutralize the essential oils from the bottle using home methods.

  • Wash the tank several times under running water, not forgetting to flush the dispenser.
  • Soak the container with the dispenser in a concentrated soda solution for 1-2 days.
  • Rinse the bottle with pure alcohol or another odorless liquid containing alcohol.
  • Rinse the bottle with vodka, spray the dispenser, disassemble into its component elements and leave in a ventilated area.
  • Fill the container with boiling water, let stand for a few minutes, wash the bottle with laundry soap. Repeat the procedure 5-6 times.
  • Pour vinegar diluted 1:1 with boiling water into the bottle. After the water has cooled, drain, repeat two more times, then wash the vessel with soap and rinse with running water.
  • Wash the bottle with degreaser dishwashing detergent (make a very concentrated solution). Rinse several times under running water until soap suds are removed.

Each individual case will tell you how to neutralize the smell of perfume. Sometimes you will have to use several techniques, especially if the problem happened with high-quality long-lasting perfumes. But I want to believe that all the scents from your home collection will only bring pleasure. And their owners will want to feel their favorite smell for as long as possible, and not try to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

If the perfume spilled on the floor

If you spill perfume on the floor, you first need to eliminate the source of the smell.

One way to combat unwanted odors is baking soda. It has absorbent properties. For wet cleaning, you need to use a solution of two tablespoons of soda and a liter of warm water. After such disinfection, it is advisable to rinse the floor again with warm water. You can also wash the floor with laundry soap and then scrub the area where the perfume spilled with a brush. It is also recommended to place a wet towel soaked in salt water on the stain. Or add salt and a damp cloth.

In addition to traditional methods, there are chemical means. We are talking about special products that destroy odor, while they themselves have no odor. They are available in spray form with a convenient spray nozzle with a volume from 5 to 750 mm.

To get rid of unwanted odor, it is recommended to spray the area where the perfume has been spilled. And to eliminate ingrained odors, it is recommended to repeat the treatment once a day.

Ways to eliminate bad odor

You can remove a faint bad odor from things using specialized sprays and household chemicals added to laundry detergent.

Washed clothes should be dried in clean air under the influence of ultraviolet rays and ironed with a hot iron, adding scented water to the steamer. Wet items cannot be stored; you must wait until they dry completely.

Smell of mold and mustiness

Clothes that harbor mold spores cannot be washed with fabric softener.

There are several options for eliminating fungus and musty aroma:

Mustiness in the closet

Actions with things will not solve the problem of musty smell if mold spores have appeared in the closet.

Detailed general cleaning will help eliminate the problem:

  • You need to pull out all the things and inspect the wardrobe for fungus.
  • Having found an area that is affected, treat it with a solution of copper sulfate or Bordeaux mixture.
  • Wipe shelves and walls with a solution of vinegar or 3% hydrogen peroxide.
  • After complete drying, place a collection of aromatic herbs, sachets, coffee beans or citrus peels, wrapped in gauze, in a closet. Fragrances can help not only eliminate the musty aroma, but also prevent the formation of moths.
  • Fill your wardrobe with thoroughly dried and ironed clothes.

Tobacco smell

The corrosive bad smell of cigarette smoke on clothes cannot be removed by machine washing.

The following can help eliminate it:

  • Specialized sprays for clothes sold in the household chemicals department. The fabric trimmed with them is removed to clean air for two to three days. Suitable for dry cleaning items.
  • Vacuum cleaner. When you return from a nightclub, you can vacuum your things. Bad odor is caused by tobacco particles deposited on clothing. After cleaning, hang the suit on the balcony for several days.
  • Coffee. Place your items in a vinyl bag and add a few coffee beans wrapped in a bandage or an open can of instant coffee. This product perfectly removes any bad odor. After seven days, things will acquire a persistent coffee smell and can be hung in clean air.
  • Dry citrus peels eliminate bad odors, adding freshness to things. You can put the peels in your pockets and put your clothes on the balcony. Instead of tangerines and lemons, you can use peppermint.

At points of sale, clothing is finished with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde to eliminate the penetration of fungi and bacteria. Apart from the pronounced aroma, newly purchased items contain a considerable amount of chemical substances that are harmful to the human body.

A mixture of water and ammonia will help remove the aroma of new clothes. A newly purchased item is soaked in the solution, left for 1-2 hours, wrung out and hung in clean air for three days. After a certain time, the clothes are washed using fabric softener.

Animals that live at home

Pets have their own exclusive scent, which permeates their owners’ belongings. Plus, dogs and cats love to target territory, leaving a bad smell on clothes and shoes.

You can remove traces of your pet using vinegar essence. The fabric should be soaked in an aqueous solution with 2 tbsp. l. vinegar, leave for 2 hours and wash in the traditional way.

Rotten smell

Citric acid added to the powder during washing will help remove rotten and fishy aroma from clothes. You can soak a rotten item in a solution of simple soap for a couple of hours and put it in an automatic wash with conditioner.

Since microbes die only at a temperature of 80 degrees, which is unacceptable for washing many things, the following can help remove the problem:

  1. Sprays for clothes. They perfectly remove bad odor and prevent its formation in the future. Apply to fabric for 30-40 minutes before/after or instead of washing. Contains organic silver and herbal fragrances.
  2. Oxygen stain removers, sold in sporting goods stores, eliminate bad odors and sweat stains.
  3. Simple soap. They rub it on the underwear in the armpit area, leave it on for 10 minutes and wash it off with water.
  4. Dishwashing liquid or hair shampoo is mixed with water, foamed and applied to problem areas for half an hour, the fabric is dried and ironed.
  5. A cool environment destroys germs, so things with a bad sweat odor can be placed in a plastic bag and put in the freezer for 1.5-2 hours.
  6. Vinegar essence, hydrogen peroxide and alcohol help remove sweat from outerwear. Wipe the armpit area with a swab soaked in it and hang it in clean air.
  7. Fabric that is recommended to be washed at a temperature of 40 degrees is soaked in a mixture of water, vinegar, citric acid, salt and soda before washing. They can withstand 2 hours and are washed with the addition of fabric softener.
  8. If machine washing is ineffective, areas with an untidy odor are wiped with a weak potassium permanganate solution and subjected to an additional wash with rinsing.

We act according to the situation

The different nature of the problem requires an individual approach. But measures will be effective only in combination. It is necessary not only to get rid of the cause, but also to eliminate the consequences and prevent them - these are mandatory stages in the fight against foreign odors in the closet.

How to remove in a new cabinet?

Buying new furniture is a joyful event, but the specific smell of the paint and varnish coating and material can be a problem. High-quality products exude a “new” aroma for no more than 2 weeks, but the process can be accelerated.

First of all, the room where the new cabinet is located must be ventilated. A simple but effective method will help you get rid of the smell:

  1. Open furniture doors wide open.
  2. Pour baking soda into plastic glasses (no more than half).
  3. Place them in each compartment.
  4. Place black tea bags on the shelves.

The aroma of new furniture disappears in about 2 weeks. If the problem persists, you must repeat the procedure. Absorbents, tea and soda, must be changed every 14 days to be effective.

You can find out how to remove the smell of new furniture here.

From old wooden

Even old furniture cannot emit an unpleasant odor on its own, so it is necessary to identify the cause of its appearance. The best way is to audit the things in your closet. If you get rid of the old stuff, wash the rest with the addition of aromatic conditioner, the unpleasant smell will disappear.

The closet itself also needs to be refreshed:

  • treat shelves and walls with furniture polish;
  • ventilate the internal parts until completely dry;
  • lay out clean laundry;
  • add pieces of fragrant soap to it.

General cleaning should be repeated monthly. For prevention, you can use industrial flavorings.

If the problem has partially gone away, you can sprinkle dry mustard inside the cabinet and close the doors. After 48 hours, the powder will absorb excess aromas and should be removed.

Animal odor

The appearance of uninvited guests in the wardrobe is another “fragrant” problem. If a mouse odor or rodent waste products appear on the shelves, it is necessary to destroy their source and treat the surfaces with a solution of peroxide or acetic acid.

Cat tags are more difficult to remove. It is necessary to find the pet’s “favorite” places and treat them with special industrial products to neutralize the smell of animals, which are sold in pet and hardware stores.

Alternative Homemade Ingredients:

  • lemon acid,
  • alcohol,
  • hydrogen peroxide.

It is not recommended to use products with a strong odor for treatment; the pet will certainly try to kill it by marking the territory again.

From tobacco

Acrid tobacco smoke quickly settles on surfaces and penetrates their structure.

To rid furniture of a specific aroma, it is necessary to clear the shelves and treat them with a weak solution of acetic acid.

Another option is to place a damp towel in the closet. After 30 minutes, it must be washed and the procedure repeated. After using a damp cloth, surfaces need to be dried and ventilated.

Smell of dust

To eliminate the smell of dust, it is enough to regularly clean the shelves. To do this you need:

  1. Empty the wardrobe of its contents.
  2. Shake items thoroughly and hang for airing.
  3. Clean the surfaces with a damp cloth and add a weak solution of vinegar or ammonia.
  4. Thoroughly ventilate and dry the cabinet.
  5. Return the contents to their place.

Do not use large amounts of moisture for cleaning. An undried surface is more likely to be attacked by an unpleasant fungus - mold.

Mold

The fungus loves dark, damp places. Increased humidity in the closet can lead to the appearance of characteristic stains on surfaces and clothing. In addition, mold negatively affects the human body. You need to get rid of it at the first symptoms.

Mold is sensitive to aggressive components. Every home will have:

  • baking soda;
  • vinegar;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • alcohol;
  • bleach.

A solution of water with one of the components kills mold spores. To prevent its further occurrence, you need to use an antiseptic, which can be purchased at a hardware or hardware store.

Another effective method is treating the wardrobe with a steam generator. If the surfaces are severely damaged by fungus, it is better to think about buying a new cabinet.

Essential oils

If the aroma that needs to be drowned out is not too intense, essential oils are suitable as an assistant. You can distribute them around the room in several ways:

  • using a vacuum cleaner. To do this, apply a couple of drops of oil to a cotton pad or small cloth and suck it up with a vacuum cleaner. After that, start cleaning the apartment. Now the air coming from the vacuum cleaner bag will give freshness to your room;
  • using a spray bottle. To do this, add 2-3 drops of the selected essential oil to water and pour it into the pool. Thoroughly ventilate the room and spray it with the prepared mixture. This way you can get rid of some mild but intrusive odors.

The choice of essential oil depends only on your personal preferences, however, you should remember that to eliminate odor it is better to choose aromas that do not conflict with each other.

White vinegar

Vinegar is an excellent remedy for eliminating any odors in the house. Due to the presence of acids in the composition, it will cope perfectly with the essential oils contained in perfumes.

To remove odor, we need an aqueous solution of vinegar in a 1:1 ratio. Next, use the application method that is most suitable for you:

  • using a cloth if the perfume is on a hard surface or the floor;
  • using a spray bottle if the liquid ends up on clothing or furniture.

After 20 minutes after application, the composition should be washed off with cool water, as it can damage the surface or particularly delicate fabrics.
