Tools for the home: professional tools for household needs (125 photos)

Every home should have a certain set of tools with which all household needs will be satisfied. But before you buy a full set of tools, take a look at what you already have.

Make a list of missing items and buy what you need. First, you can study photos of tools for the home.

Men have an easier time in this regard than women. Perhaps it was precisely for this purpose that a universal set sold ready-made was invented. These are the so-called tool kits in a suitcase.

However, such kits do not always contain all the necessary tools. Therefore, it will be easier for many to purchase them separately, completing their own home set.

Knife with retractable, replaceable blades

When purchasing such a knife, it is better not to waste time on trifles and choose a more expensive model, since cheap ones often have a low-quality blade clamping mechanism. As for size, just like with a tape measure and a hammer, I think it is better to have two knives: one with a blade width of 9 mm and a larger one with a blade width of 25 mm. The first is suitable for small jobs, such as stripping cable cores. The second knife is useful for more complex work, such as cutting plastic or linoleum.

What problems may an apartment owner have:

  1. Replace old windows with new modern metal-plastic ones. You will need the following tools: - axe, saw, pry bar, hammer, perforator, building level, tape measure, spray foam gun (preferably, but not necessary, since you can get by with “household” cylinders with PVC tubes, although this increases the consumption of foam and the “accuracy” of installation decreases).
  2. Replace water supply pipes with eco-plastic + install meters + replace plumbing. You will need the following tools: - grinder, die for cutting threads on pipes of the appropriate diameter, scissors for cutting pipes, soldering iron for soldering eco-plastic, tape measure, gas wrench, adjustable wrench, screwdriver
  3. Replace the old electrical wiring with a new one. You will need the following tools: - gas torch or soldering iron, dielectric side cutters 1000V, dielectric pliers 1000V, multimeter, phase tester, tape measure, hammer drill, set of bits for installing electrical sockets, dielectric gloves
  4. Replace entrance and interior doors. You will need the following tools: - an axe, a saw, a pry bar, a screwdriver, a set of chisels, a hammer drill, a construction level, a tape measure, a foam gun, you may need a sealant gun and a welding machine.
  5. Make a wardrobe. Of course, you can buy a wardrobe in an online store, but brave people can make it with their own hands! Moreover, if we are talking about built-in wardrobes, which have neither a back panel nor a ceiling plate. You will need the following tools: - a jigsaw, a screwdriver, a hammer drill, a building level, a tape measure, a plumbing angle, a milling cutter for milling recesses for hinges on doors
  6. Make a small redevelopment using drywall, followed by plastering the walls, ceilings, and wallpapering. You will need the following tools: a hammer drill, a screwdriver, scissors for cutting metal, a knife for cutting drywall, a hammer, spatulas, a mixer attachment for the hammer drill (needed for mixing the plaster), a tape measure, a plumber's angle, a building level, scissors, brushes, rollers.
  7. Assemble the purchased chest of drawers or kitchen corner. You will need the following tools: carpenter's clamp, plumbing angle, screwdriver, hammer, tape measure

As I already said, it’s impossible to describe all real-life situations, but in general I think that a significant part of the construction and installation issues within the apartment were touched upon. Based on the above, I consider it advisable to have in the apartment:

Electric drill

When choosing an electric drill, you should pay attention to the following parameters: the presence of a battery and the need to use a key to operate the chuck. The presence of a battery will simplify work at home, since you will not depend on the outlet and the length of the wire. And the chuck, which can be operated without a key, will speed up the process of changing the drill.

You should also immediately buy a set of drills for the drill. For metal, the optimal set is from 2 to 12 mm.

What you can, but not necessarily, purchase

A good addition would be to have a level. As a rule, this tool is used when attaching shelves and the like. This is a kind of ruler, usually painted yellow and having a tube with a liquid substance. Used for smooth horizontal arrangement of parts or surfaces.

It will be useful to purchase a caliper. This tool is a size meter.

A gas wrench will be a good addition to your tool kit. It is used to carry out locksmith work. For example, replacing batteries, pipes and other items.

Headlamp

A flashlight, contrary to popular belief, is useful not only in case of a power outage, but also during repairs in remote dark corners of the room where there are no normal light sources. It is usually recommended to buy a simple hand-held flashlight, but, in my opinion, a headlamp is much more convenient, since it does not get in the way in the hand, and if necessary, it can be removed and used as a regular one.

It’s difficult to give any advice on choosing here. Most importantly, don’t buy the cheapest flashlight that will break in a couple of days.

Indicator screwdriver - for checking the functionality of electricity and sockets

An electrical voltage tester, or indicator screwdriver, looks like a regular screwdriver, but has a different purpose: it is used to check whether there is voltage in the network so that connecting a new chandelier or replacing an outlet does not end in disaster. Indicator screwdrivers operate without batteries. Simply plug it into the outlet, then touch the contact plate on the probe body with your finger. If there is voltage, the signal LED will light up. Don’t make a mistake when purchasing, because in addition to household ones, there are also car “screwdrivers” that operate with a voltage of 6–24 V.

As the price increases, the indicator screwdriver becomes more and more “smarter”: for example, it can show the voltage level in the network, and non-contact probes will help you find hidden wiring in the wall.

Hacksaw

A hand saw or saw is not usually used very often, but it is still useful to have one at home. It is worth saying that recently the popularity of hand saws (and all hand tools) has been rapidly declining, so when purchasing you will probably be offered a jigsaw.

Of course, working with a jigsaw is much more convenient, but do not forget that it costs much more and takes up more space. And given that a hacksaw is used infrequently, all the advantages of a jigsaw may simply not be realized. Therefore, if you are not planning large-scale work, then a hand saw will do the job quite well.

I think this concludes the list of tools that are necessary in every home. Some may feel that this list is missing some tool. But my personal experience shows that in the vast majority of cases this set will be sufficient, and the missing situational tool can always be purchased in addition if necessary.

Top 10 most necessary power tools for the home craftsman (screwdriver, hammer drill and others)

I present to your attention the top 10 most necessary tools for the home, with which you can solve almost any problem, be it repair, installation or manufacturing of any structure.

1) Screwdriver

So, first of all comes the most popular tool in the household, namely a screwdriver. I have already said more than once that a gentleman’s set for home and work is a combination of a screwdriver + a hammer drill; a drill is not needed at all. With the help of a shurik you can: drill/countersink holes, tighten self-tapping screws/screws, cut metal and mix mixtures, of course, with the appropriate attachments and shuriks of appropriate power.

Hilda screwdrivers (12.6V/16.8V):

Link to the product (delivery from Moscow is available) - HERE

Two ultra-cheap options for 12.6/16.8 volts. It comes in a plastic case, although there is an option with a regular box, but the difference is a couple of dollars. I recommend the four-can version, because it outperforms the 12-volt ones in all respects. More than 2700 orders, the price tag is just ridiculous. Offline for this price cadmium slag.

Characteristics:

- Nominal/maximum voltage - 16.8V (4S) - Battery type - 4 series-connected Li-Ion f/f 18650 - Battery capacity - about 1300mah (2 batteries) - Chuck type - quick-release - Chuck locking - no - Supported diameter - 0.8-10mm — Gearbox — planetary, metal gears — Maximum torque — 32 Nm — Number of torque stages (ratchet) — 18 + 1 — Speed switch — two-position, two speeds (350/1350 rpm) — Speed regulator — smooth, depending on the degree of pressing the trigger - Reverse - yes - Battery level indicator - yes - Backlight - yes (LED)

I repeat once again, the 12V version is an option for the budget-conscious, 16V is the best option. I have already described all the advantages of 16V Shuriks more than once in my reviews, I will not repeat them. I will only note that their main advantage is greater torque on the shaft and almost complete use of battery charge. 12-volt ones use only 2/3 of the capacity, then they simply don’t turn on.

For the home, a second battery is not particularly needed, especially for 16V versions, but you can easily buy it for 500 rubles if necessary or assemble it yourself (see at the end of the topic).

2) Hammer

The second most important tool. Allows you to drill/drill holes, mix mixtures, etc. There is enough power for all tasks. Choose a model with a power of at least 800-900W and with a set of all modes (drilling / drilling / chiseling).

In general, I recommend taking a closer look at Makita, DeWalt or Hitachi models - these are the best companies in the middle segment. Bosch has slipped nowhere, the “green” one is not to be considered, the “blue” professional one is no better than high-quality Chinese ones, and the prices are sky high. The relocation of production facilities to China (for the European market) did not benefit them.

The inexpensive DEKO GJ180 (delivery from Moscow is available) is suitable as a workhorse - HERE

Cordless hammer drills are also gaining popularity. But you understand that autonomy and striking power suffer. It is necessary to consider models with a voltage of at least 21V and preferably with a BC motor.

3) Angle grinder (grinder) or angle grinder

The third most important tool. Allows you to cut or clean metal, tiles and, with extreme care, wood. Choose a model with a power of at least 800-900W with speed control. However, speed control is implemented for 150 rubles, so it’s not really worth pursuing this function. A model with a 125mm circle is sufficient for home and garden use.

the Caliber MSHU-125/955E model which I reviewed earlier. It is still alive, has good power, a built-in speed controller, a rotary gearbox and a comfortable handle.

Cordless angle grinders are also gaining popularity. I’m looking at them myself, but finances don’t allow it yet. Buy models with a voltage of at least 21V and with BC motors, be sure to have a second battery, because autonomy is poor. Models with a 125mm circle can be counted on one hand and there is no point in chasing them. 100-115mm models are quite enough.

For example, the link to the Lomvum 21V cordless angle grinder is HERE

Just don’t take Wosai , they have nothing but complaints and are relatively expensive. In general, this is not the best brand among power tools.

4.1) Electric jigsaw

Designed for cutting various materials, including metal. It's inexpensive and often helps. Again, priority is given to models from the top three, but cheap Chinese ones will do just fine.

Jigsaw DEKO 800W:

Cordless jigsaws are also gaining popularity. I’ve never touched them myself, so I can’t say anything about them. But they cost a little more, for example PROSTORMER MX02 at 20V - HERE

The batteries for it are here

4.2) Reciprocating saw

Also designed for cutting various materials, including metal. There are both mains and battery-powered ones. I have been wanting to buy a rechargeable one for a long time, because... gardening periodically requires repairs, and crawling around the garden with an extension cord is more expensive.

I'm looking at the Hilda 21V saber rifle:

Network ones are cheaper, but lose all relevance. There are many models, for example the same Hilda - HERE

4.3) Circular saw

To be honest, it is a rather dangerous tool that requires increased attention. If you are lazy, you may be left without a finger. But with the right approach, it allows you to easily cut various materials, including tiles (with a diamond wheel). In general, this is a universal tool and can partially cover the capabilities of an angle grinder if the latter only requires cutting.

Corded circular saws are quite heavy and dangerous, so saws with a front blade are an alternative. There are both mains and battery-powered ones.

As an example, a PROSTORMER in the usual format, but with autonomous power supply from a 21V battery - here

PS, it depends on you, but I like the battery-powered saber the most,

5) Vibratory sander or orbital sander

No less significant tool of all. Allows you to clean/sand various surfaces. I have such a budget one - it’s just fire! Personally, I sanded the floor for the bathhouse, completely cleared the frames of old paint (for subsequent painting), sanded the platbands, wooden structural elements (various sheds, greenhouses, benches) so that there would be no burrs from them, etc.

There are belt and orbital sanders. For home and garden use, it is better to look at vibration, for large volumes of work - tape. There are, again, a great many models and they differ in many ways. I have a rectangular sole, but it’s more convenient with a triangular (elongated) one, because... allows you to process corners. Three brands are preferable, but as an example:

LANNERET 220W:

There are also battery models. A prerequisite is the presence of a dust extractor, otherwise everything around will be covered in dust!

6) Electric plane

Many consider it a luxury, but believe me, it’s worth the money, especially if the dacha has dilapidated buildings (sheds/greenhouses/gazebos). In the summer heat, oh how I don’t want to use a regular plane to trim pieces of wood to the required thickness.

Caliber RE-720+ST for several years now , with a power of 720 W and a planing depth of 2 mm in one pass, and also with the ability to be used as a planing machine. Review it here

7) Oscillating saw

This is a multifunctional oscillating tool with the ability to quickly change attachments, designed for surface treatment in hard-to-reach places (corners, for example), for cutting holes of various shapes, etc. The instrument is quite new, many have never heard of it.

Not required, because has a narrow focus, but sometimes helps out.

Construction vacuum cleaner

It is no secret that during any processing of materials, dust/shavings/burrs and other debris are released. For household work, a construction vacuum cleaner becomes relevant, which sucks up all this waste during processing without fear of damaging the bag or filters. Particularly relevant when processing wood (cutting/grinding). There are not many models, but for “regular” work a vacuum cleaner with a power of 1kW is suitable.

I previously reviewed the PUPPYOO WP808 with dry/wet cleaning function and a blower - here

Vacuum cleaner PUPPYOO WP808:

For 2690 rubles (excluding coupons) - it has no equal. It sucks up chips and dust normally.

9) Consumables

Spare batteries for 12.6V / 16.8V / 21V:

21V battery HEMUYOU - HERE

There should be no complaints about the batteries: the format is almost the same. therefore they are suitable for any Shuriks, including nonname. Inside there are high-current banks at 1300-1500mah. The container is not fake, it’s honest, it’s just not as relevant today.

The links provide several variations for 12.6V (3S), 16.8V (4S) and 21V (5S). Prices start from 8 bucks per battery, which in my opinion is very cheap!

Battery cases with BMS board for 12.6V / 16.8V / 21V:

Link to cases - HERE

Link to cases - HERE

An option for those whose hands grow out of place :-). In fact, the assembly option is very simple, the BMS board is normal, without blocking. The protection current is about 20A and can be adjusted with a current measuring device. Any high-current batteries are suitable as batteries, for example Samsons or Skis at 2500mah / 3000mah. And believe me, the battery life will be very pleasing, especially with a 16.8V Shurik. And no matter how strange it may seem, for work at the dacha/at home, you simply won’t need a spare battery, because you’ll get tired of discharging the main one...

If the topic is interesting, I’ll tell you where and how to buy inexpensive high-current cans for power tools!

Level - to determine the curvature of walls and floors

Shelves, posters and pictures need to be hung level, and for this you will need a building level. It would be a good idea to check the floor for curvature before installing the washing machine. The device will show flaws in vertical and horizontal surfaces. The most affordable option is a bubble level; a little more expensive, but of better quality, are a hydraulic level and laser devices.

If you decide to become an exemplary owner of the house, do not waste money on a ready-made set of tools. In such “suitcases” you will find devices that are more suitable for car repairs, rather than occasional minor repairs to an apartment or house; they contain a lot of bits and wrenches. In addition, ready-made sets do not always please with quality; they have a different goal - to amaze with quantity. And by choosing screwdrivers and pliers individually, you are guaranteed to inspect each item.

Do you have a lot of tools in the house?

Grinder

Using this tool, the surface of the product is smoothed, rust, scale, chips and burrs are removed. The following grinders are most often used in workshops:

  • Belt - for roughing: stripping of rust or old paint
  • Eccentric – for fine finishing grinding and polishing of convex, concave or flat parts
  • Angle grinder, also known as grinder, is a multifunctional tool for grinding, cleaning and cutting parts.

By the way, the name “grinder” was born in the 70s in the USSR. At this time, the first angle grinders appeared in Soviet stores, which were made in Bulgaria at the Sparky plant.

Universal square

Perhaps in adult life, having encountered difficulties in using this tool, you once again regretted that you were inattentive in geometry lessons. The universal square can be described as an improved model of the school protractor, because it is also used for measuring and constructing angles.

Having one universal square, you can save on the purchase of a surface planer, a measuring rod, a measuring and drawing ruler and other tools.

Adjustable wrench

Have you ever wondered why in old German porn films the plumber comes in holding not a plunger (which would be logical), but an adjustable wrench? When they see a man with this instrument, most women at the subconscious level begin to experience complacent awe, because in their opinion this is exactly what a real man should look like.

An adjustable wrench can replace a dozen ordinary wrenches because its size is adjustable, which means it can be used for almost all types of bolts.

Screwdrivers

Screws and screws are often used in our homes; they are found in furniture, household appliances, and sanitary fixtures. And often there is a need to tighten a loose connection or remove screws to perform, for example, a simple repair of a heater or other device. Doing this without a screwdriver will be problematic, so screwdrivers rightfully occupy an honorable second place in a home kit.

Screwdrivers are selected according to the shape and size of the slot on the screws and screws. The simplest slot for hardware is a straight slot; the most common one is cross-shaped. In addition to the usual cross-shaped slot, there is also a reinforced one, it looks like a cross-shaped one with a star superimposed on top, rotated 45 degrees.

When turning a screwdriver, it often warps in relation to the axis of the screw, so it is better to give preference to tools with a long blade, as it is easier to hold them strictly along the axis of the screwed-in hardware, ensuring reliable contact with it.

As for the material used to make screwdrivers, it is better to purchase those whose tips and blades are made of steel with the addition of chromium and vanadium, which gives the tool the required hardness and strength. The rods of branded screwdrivers are processed using a special technology that enhances adhesion to fasteners. Handles can be wooden or plastic.

For household purposes, it is enough to buy three models of screwdrivers - one with a straight blade and a pair of Phillips - simple and reinforced. Better yet, purchase a screwdriver with a set of removable blades of different sizes and configurations. Their number can vary from 3 to 50 varieties. Such sets are sold in convenient and compact cases. It is convenient to store them in them and transport them, for example, to the dacha with the onset of the summer season.
