Steam valve and its functions

When choosing a multicooker, many may not understand what the steam valve is for in a multicooker. In fact, in the design of a multicooker, all the details are important. The valve that regulates the steam supply will be in the first place among the important elements.

Purpose

Any device that works with steam and temperature must contain a steam valve. This is the answer to the question of what the steam valve is for in a multicooker. When they try to automate the cooking process as much as possible, the creators of multicookers should pay special attention to the quality of the steam valve.

The main purpose of this component of the device is to release excess steam, while preventing heat from escaping to keep food hot.

This detail is especially important when steaming , so that the inside is sufficiently moist. Many manufacturers want to make using a multicooker easier by making the steam valves automatic. In this case, it will only be necessary to clean it in a timely manner. Don’t worry and look for another multicooker if you have problems with the valve. You can always buy it additionally and match it to the required model .

You need to know that there are differences between the steam valve for a multicooker and a pressure cooker. For the first case, it is necessary to regulate the amount of steam, and in the second, the level of pressure, safety and tightness are very important.

For models with pressure cooker mode, valves are divided into two types:

  • worker;
  • safety.
  1. Working valve . It is necessary to maintain the required pressure in the container. It also releases steam after cooking or if there is too much steam inside. In some types of multicookers, when there are many modes, the valve must be placed in certain positions. To ensure a low temperature, it must be in the “Sealed” position.
  2. Safety valve . It is needed to lock the container lid and prevent sudden release of steam if the main valve does not operate. When the pressure builds up, steam comes out of it and it begins to hiss. When the pressure is built up, the lid rises under the influence of steam and closes the valve. The safety valve position can be open or closed.

Thanks to the steam valve, all the beneficial properties of the cooked food are preserved, because it is mainly steamed and does not release all trace elements into the air, which often happens during conventional cooking.

Or relieve the pressure yourself by turning the valve to the Vent position.

The multicooker is distinguished by the fact that it has:

  • temperature sensor,
  • control device,
  • sealed lid.

An airtight lid allows for more or less uniform distribution of heat in the bowl and also prevents oxygen from entering.

Chemicals

The range of household chemicals includes products specially designed for cleaning multicookers. Their composition copes well with grease and food residues and does not harm the surface. Effectively removes grease and dirt from ceramic or Teflon surfaces. Eliminates odors and has antibacterial protective properties. Sometimes the detergent kit includes a special sponge for cleaning non-stick surfaces.

This product can be replaced with gel or foam for kitchen appliances, as well as dishwashing liquid with a neutral pH level.

Competent repair

When undertaking repairs yourself, you must remember that the factory warranty disappears. Only the consumer will be responsible for the final result. The service center will exclude:

  • free repair;
  • warranty service;
  • replacement of failed parts.

Therefore, if any error codes appear on the device and simply disconnecting from the network does not help to correct the situation, it would be more rational to contact a service center.

However, if the equipment is no longer under warranty, and the user has certain knowledge and skills, you can try to eliminate the defect yourself. It is important to always follow safety principles and unplug the multicooker from the mains.

Valve design and operation

In a multicooker, food is brought to a boil within 10-15 minutes after turning it on. If you need to cook fried food, it is better to open the valve.

The valve operates in one-way mode. Steam is released through it, but outside air will not enter, since one of the important rules in multicookers is to leave the food at the required temperature, avoiding cooling it.

Alternating different pressures allows you to cook foods faster without removing their beneficial properties. Thanks to the tightness, the food does not boil, which will not negatively affect the quality of the food.

It is necessary to know how to properly clean the steam valve so that it lasts longer. Therefore, after cooking fatty foods, you should wipe it with a damp cloth using detergents. How to clean the valve correctly? You should constantly remove remaining fat and oil from it, which will harm its operation.

There are a number of questions that may arise when using a multicooker.

  1. How to insert the valve. It is put on a pin that has the inscription Vent – Seal. The first inscription means that the valve is open, and the second means it is closed. It is important to understand when the valve should be open or closed.
  2. Why is the valve hanging? This phenomenon must exist. After all, this means that there is a change in pressure, so under the influence of this the valve can rise. This is the normal valve design.
  3. Valve hissing. This is normal, as it means that excess steam from the multicooker valve escapes through the safety valve during high boiling. When the boil reaches maximum, the valve closes and the hissing stops.

Preventing musty odors

It happens that after opening the package, an unpleasant plastic smell emanates from the multicooker. If you do not eliminate it and start cooking, the food will end up with an unpleasant aroma and taste.

An unpleasant smell in a multicooker after cooking can appear due to various reasons, for example, you cooked fish or simply forgot that there was food left in the bowl and did not look there for a long time. You can deal with any unpleasant odor, the main thing is to use rational methods.

To prevent side dishes and desserts from smelling like the fish you cooked in a slow cooker the day before, use table vinegar. Fill the bowl with water and add a little vinegar at the rate of 2 tbsp. spoons per 2 liters of liquid. Turn on the “steam” mode for a maximum of half an hour. Then rinse the bowl with running water and wipe dry with a towel. If the smell does not disappear, repeat the procedure, increasing the program time.

If you smell a moldy smell when you open the multicooker lid, it means there is mold in the container. If cleaning the bowl with soda did not help, and the unpleasant aroma remains, disassemble the device into its component parts and treat each of them with a soda solution. After the procedure, the smell should go away.

The smell of rotten and musty food can be removed by substances and products with high adsorbing properties. These include: coffee, black tea and even sea salt. To get rid of an unpleasant odor:

Pour coffee beans into the bowl and leave for 12 hours. During this time, the grains will absorb all foreign odors. Rinse the bowl with black tea

Please note that tea leaves cannot be used for ceramic containers, as the coating may darken. Place sea salt on the bottom of the bowl and heat for 10 minutes. Leave the substance in the slow cooker overnight and the smell will go away

After the procedure, be sure to rinse and wipe the container dry.

You can remove the smell from the sealing gum by “boiling” water with citric acid in a slow cooker.

Rarely, but still there are cases when the smell does not go away under any circumstances. Unfortunately, in such situations, only replacing the rubber seal helps.

In order not to think about how to get rid of an unpleasant odor in the future, it is enough to simply prevent its occurrence. For this:

  • do not store food in a bowl;
  • Wash the multicooker thoroughly after each contact with food;
  • When clean, keep the appliance open on the countertop and not in the cabinet;
  • If you are not going to use the device for a long time, add lemon or orange zest to the bowl.
  1. It is necessary to pour 1-1.5 liters of water and 2 tbsp into the multicooker. l. vinegar (preferably 9%).
  2. Turn on the “Steam cooking” mode and wait until the device turns off.
  3. Wash the bowl under the tap and dry.
  1. Dissolve the acid in water (1 tablespoon per liter) and pour into the bowl. If your choice is lemon, squeeze the citrus juice into a liter of water.
  2. Select the same mode as for vinegar.
  3. After 30 minutes, drain, wash and dry the multicooker.

Coffee beans placed inside the equipment overnight will remove the unpleasant odor.

Soda and salt

If the “aroma” does not leave the multicooker, you should use a solution of salt and soda in water. The ingredients are mixed in equal quantities, and all elements of the device are washed with the resulting liquid. Then they need to be rinsed and dried.

Cooking errors and how to eliminate them

The dish is not fully cooked

1. The lid of the appliance was not closed or not closed tightly, so the cooking temperature was not high enough. During cooking, do not open the lid of the appliance unless necessary. Close the lid until it clicks. Make sure that nothing prevents the lid of the device from closing tightly and that the rubber seal on the inner lid is not deformed. 2. The bowl and the heating element are in poor contact, so the cooking temperature was not high enough. The bowl must be installed evenly in the appliance body, with its bottom tightly adjacent to the heating disk. Make sure that there are no foreign objects in the working chamber of the multicooker. Do not allow the heating disk to become dirty 3. Poor selection of dish ingredients. These ingredients are not suitable for the cooking method you have chosen or the wrong cooking program has been selected. 4. The ingredients are cut too coarsely, the general proportions of the food are violated. 5. The cooking time was insufficient. It is advisable to use proven (adapted for this appliance model) recipes. Use recipes you can truly trust. The selection of ingredients, the method of cutting them, the proportions of the bookmark, the choice of program and cooking time must correspond to the selected recipe

It's easy to fix. Restart the program and continue cooking. True, in this case one of the important advantages of the multicooker is lost and you need to periodically open the lid and monitor the cooking process.

5. When steaming: There is too little water in the bowl to provide sufficient steam density. Be sure to pour water into the bowl in the amount recommended by the recipe. If in doubt, check the water level during cooking

6. When frying: a) There is too much vegetable oil in the bowl. During normal frying, it is enough for the oil to cover the bottom of the bowl with a thin layer. When deep frying, follow the appropriate recipe directions b) Excess moisture in the bowl. Do not close the multicooker lid when frying unless directed to do so in the recipe. Be sure to defrost and drain freshly frozen foods before frying.

7. During cooking: boiling of the broth when cooking foods with high acidity. Some products require special processing before cooking: washing, sautéing, etc. Follow the recommendations of the recipe you choose

8. During baking (the dough is not baked) a) During the proofing process, the dough stuck to the inner lid and blocked the steam valve. Place the dough in a smaller volume into the bowl. b) There is too much dough in the bowl Remove the cake from the bowl, turn it over and place it back in the bowl, then continue cooking. When baking in the future, place a smaller amount of dough into the bowl.

1. Ingredients are too small or cooking time is too long Refer to a proven (adapted for this appliance model) recipe. The selection of ingredients, the method of cutting them, the proportions of the bookmark, the choice of program and cooking time must comply with his recommendations. 2. After cooking, the finished dish was left on auto-heating for too long. Long-term use of the auto-heating function is not advisable. Your device model provides for disabling this function in advance; you can use this feature.

During cooking, the product boils away. 1. When cooking milk porridge, milk boils away. The quality and properties of milk may depend on the place and conditions of its production. We recommend using only UHT milk with a fat content of up to 2.5%. If necessary, milk can be slightly diluted with drinking water. It is recommended to grease the walls of the bowl with butter.

2. The ingredients were not processed before cooking or were processed incorrectly (poorly washed, etc.). 3. The proportions of ingredients are not met or the type of product is incorrectly selected. Refer to a proven (adapted for this device model) recipe. The selection of ingredients, the method of pre-processing them, and the proportions of the filling must comply with his recommendations.

Always rinse whole grain cereals, meat, fish and seafood thoroughly with clean water. 4. The product forms foam. It is recommended to rinse the product thoroughly, remove the steam valve or cook with the lid open.

How to clean the inner aluminum cover

  • first open the lid of the multicooker;
  • press the 2 plastic clips towards the center of the lid until they open;
  • now slightly pull the inner aluminum cover towards you and down so that it moves away from the main one;
  • Wash the metal lid and wipe with a damp cloth, using dishwashing detergent if necessary.

Connect the parts in the reverse order: insert the aluminum cover into the upper grooves and align it with the main one. At the same time, gently press the latches until they click - the inner cover will lock tightly.

Some multicooker models have built-in inner lids and cannot be removed. Therefore, you have to wash them as follows: pour 1 liter of water into a bowl and boil in the “steam” mode for several minutes. At the end of the program, open the lid and wipe the inside with a dry cloth.

Let's move on to ceramics

The ceramic itself is fragile, and when you remove the container, be careful not to break anything, as it is very fragile and can chip. As for washing, it is better to wash the ceramics by hand, do not use the dishwasher, because this is very dangerous. It is better to wash by hand. It is strictly forbidden to use acids when cleaning ceramics. If your ceramics are not smooth, you can use a sponge. Rub it with gentle movements. But the sponge must be soft. It is necessary.

Many people believe that you can get rid of dust on ceramics using soda, but they are mistaken. Baking soda only ruins dishes. It is best to use a washing gel that perfectly fights dirt and grease.

Do not skimp on detergents, because if you use homemade analogues, there is a chance that the multicooker will be damaged. And buying it will cost you even more. Detergents in the form of gel for ceramics are sold in almost any specialized store. Don't waste your money and buy it.

Operating rules

The basic rules for using a multicooker include the following:

  • Kitchen appliances may only be used for their intended purpose;
  • Before you start cooking, you should make sure that there are no foreign objects inside the multicooker;
  • The power cord cannot be damaged in any way. During the cooking process, it should not touch hot surfaces;
  • The place in the kitchen for the multicooker should be chosen so that there are no sinks or other water tanks nearby. The distance to flammable objects is at least 15 centimeters;
  • Each time you install the bowl, you must make sure that the container is fixed as evenly and tightly as possible;
  • To avoid burns during the heating process, do not touch the device with bare hands (it is recommended to use silicone oven mitts, metal tongs, and gloves);

To remove the bowl from the appliance, you should use special silicone potholders.

  • It is better to use plastic or wooden kitchen accessories as auxiliary items (ladle, whisk, spatula).

Security[ | ]

Using a multicooker

The device is intended for domestic use and strictly for its intended purpose. The electrical appliance must be used in compliance with electrical safety standards. It should not be used near bathtubs, sinks or other containers filled with water. There must be a space around the device free of flammable objects - at least 15 cm.

The lid gets very hot when cooking, especially when cooking under pressure. The side wall, on the other hand, has a very moderate temperature due to thermal insulation.

Manufacturers of multi-cookers claim that they are safe and easy to use, but the instructions of most of them require that their use by children, disabled people or persons with limited physical, mental, sensory or mental abilities or capabilities, or nervous disorders should only be carried out under the direct supervision of persons responsible for their safety, or (for some) if they are given appropriate instructions that are understandable to them, and for some it is completely excluded.

Initial products

The starting products must be of good quality. It is necessary to check the smell or taste of each original product. You should not taste raw meat, minced meat or fish to avoid infection, for example, with toxoplasmosis or opisthorchiasis. When using the delayed start mode, it is advisable to place frozen foods in the pan. During the waiting time, they will partially or completely thaw and will contribute to the safety of the remaining, non-frozen food.

Thermal conditions after cooking

Most multicookers go into heating mode after cooking. At the same time, the temperature in the multicooker is maintained at a sufficiently high temperature, which is not conducive to the growth of bacteria. The exception is heat-resistant bacteria, for example, potato sticks, whose spores can withstand heating up to 130 degrees. Therefore, potato sticks almost always survive even in pressure cookers, the typical cooking temperature of which is about 120 degrees. Potato blight is found in vegetables, and vegetables usually have a characteristic “vegetable store smell.” Potato sticks are also found in baked goods (also crackers), milk and flour. Once the heating mode is turned off, food spoils quickly in an open pressure cooker because the insulation cools the food slowly, allowing bacteria to grow and spoil the food. Therefore (especially after opening the pressure cooker), the pan must be removed from the multicooker so that the food cools faster.
