Samsung washing machine LE error: causes and solutions

New generation washing machines are equipped with an electronic control module that continuously analyzes the operation of the device. If a failure occurs in one of the machine systems, the module displays a message with the corresponding error code. In this review, we will find out what the LE error on a Samsung washing machine means, what causes it to appear, and how you can fix the problem yourself.

Error code LE of a Samsung washing machine, depending on the model and year of manufacture of the device, can be displayed on the display as LE1, Lc, Lc1 or E9

Error interpretation

So, there is an LE error on the Samsung washing machine display: what does this information mean? This code indicates a water leak or self-draining.

Each automatic washing machine is equipped with a pressure switch (sensor) that analyzes the water level in the tank. If within a few minutes the sensor detects a drop in level below the mark required for a given wash cycle, the washing machine issues an LE error.

In units equipped with the Aquastop system, a float sensor, which is located in the lower part of the machine (in the pan), reacts to leakage. If for any reason the water intake/drainage process is disrupted, the pan fills and the sensor floats up. The operation of the equipment is suspended and an error is displayed on the display.

Modern models of Samsung washing machines, such as Diamond or Eco Bubble, will report a water leak with the LE error, and earlier modifications released before 2007 will show information code E9 in case of a similar failure.

Errors can result from both serious breakdowns, the elimination of which will require the help of specialists, and minor malfunctions in the system, which can be dealt with on your own. Let's look at possible causes of problems.

Deciphering the codes

Errors in a Samsung washing machine can be indicated differently, but indicate the same problem - water leakage from the tank. Depending on the year of manufacture of the model of this brand, codes LE, LC, E9, LE1 may appear on the screen. The E9 code, for example, was used by the manufacturer in early models of washing machines, until about 2007.

The design of the machines includes a pressure switch, or water level sensor. If the sensor detects a drop in water level below the established norm 4 times in a row, one of the listed error codes will appear on the display.

Causes

We found out that the LE information code indicates a water leak. Now let's figure out why such a failure might occur:

  • improper installation of the drain hose (for example, its low location);
  • incorrect connection of the drain hose to the machine or to the sewer;
  • seal leakage;
  • damage to the drum or housing (weakening of bolt reinforcements, cracks);
  • pressostat malfunction;
  • faulty contacts and connections of the pressure switch;
  • failure in the control module.

Damage to the drain hose and its incorrect connection are the most common causes of the LE error.

Error LE1 on a Samsung washing machine, as well as information code Lc1, usually appears for the following reasons:

  • leakage of the drain filter (it may not be tightened properly);
  • leakage of drain or internal hoses;
  • leakage of the hatch (damage to the cuff);
  • water leaking from the powder compartment.

If water (or foam) leaks from the detergent tray, check the dispenser compartments: the channels are often clogged with washing powder residue

The LE information code, accompanied by the appearance of foam from the detergent tray, indicates problems with the powder: either you are using a low-quality detergent (or not intended for the automatic machine), or you are pouring it in excess.

If the error code appears for the first time, and there are no visible signs of a leak, try unplugging the machine for a few minutes. The reason may be a malfunction of the electronic control module, and for proper operation it is enough to restart the washing machine.

What to do if the error does not go away? Let's consider possible ways to troubleshoot problems yourself.

Recommendations and preventive measures

Following simple rules helps to avoid LE failures in a Samsung washing unit. When operating the machine you must:

  • strictly follow the instructions in the instructions regarding the installation of the unit;
  • Clean the drain filter and hose regularly;
  • make sure that the water drainage tube is not twisted or pinched;
  • From time to time check the tightness of the fasteners and, if necessary, eliminate leaks at the joints.

The machine must be installed so that during operation it produces as little vibration as possible. It is because of the latter that the fastening of the drain hose often becomes loose, and water begins to pour out onto the floor.

Procedure

The LE error may appear on the display both at the beginning of the wash and at the end of the cycle, during rinsing or spinning. To troubleshoot problems, follow these steps:

  • press the off button on the washing machine body and disconnect the unit from the power supply;
  • Inspect the drain hose - it should not be kinked or compressed. Check the integrity of the hose, its position and connection to the sewer and machine. The hose fastening must be sealed and located at a distance of at least 70 cm from the floor (washing machines are equipped with a plastic loop that allows you to secure the drain hose at the required height);
  • look at how tightly the drain filter cap is screwed on (after cleaning the filter again, it might not have been screwed on properly);
  • if you have some experience in repairing equipment, you can try to check the connections of the pipes leading from the tray to the tank of the machine and from the tank to the pump (the clamps could have become loose and the connections began to leak);
  • if you have the necessary skills, check the contacts and connections of the wire loops going to the pressure switch and the float sensor (if they are loose, they need to be corrected);
  • make sure that the sewer or water supply system itself is not leaking (such a leak can cause water to appear in the pan of the machine and trigger the Aquastop system sensor).

If it is impossible to identify a malfunction with the naked eye, it is better to seek help from specialists. The breakdown could have occurred in the inside of the machine: the tubular electric heater (TEH) failed, a crack appeared in the tank, or another part broke.

When loading laundry, carefully check the pockets: coins, metal and sharp objects can cause damage and cracks in the washing machine tub.

The table provides a list of the most common faults that can be reported by the LE information code that appears on the monitor.

The error codes in question do not always indicate serious malfunctions, however, they are a signal for immediate action. If the problem is not corrected in time, you can flood your neighbors and incur significant financial losses. We hope that our tips will help you fix the problem yourself. If you doubt your abilities, seek help from professionals.

Adviсe

Despite the fact that the Samsung washing machine performs work in an automated mode, after starting the program it must be periodically monitored.

Since the problem coded by the le code is related to the release of water from the tank, unauthorized drainage is often the cause of flooding.

If automatic water filling and draining is repeated several times, the volume of liquid around the machine increases. You can only stop this process manually by pressing the corresponding button or unplugging the power cord.

The second recommendation concerns the quality of connecting nodes and contacts. After cleaning the filter and other elements, it is important to tighten the parts tightly. When reinstalling the drain hose, you should check the degree of sealing of the entrance to the sewer pipe.

If the reasons for the error le are related to the internal structure of the machine (sensor, tank, contacts, control unit), and the level of competence does not allow you to figure it out on your own, then you should not take on the job. It is better to entrust this important task to a master.

Possible faults requiring repair

RemBytTech specialists have performed more than 3,000 repairs of Samsung washing machines. Based on these data, a list of the most common breakdowns that can be signaled by error LE, LE1 or E9 has been compiled.

Signs of an errorProbable causeRepair or replacementCost* (work only)
A Samsung washing machine with aquastop is leaking from below and displays the error LE. Outwardly, you may not notice the water until you look into the pan under the machine. Due to contact with a sharp object or pinching by the hatch, the rubber seal (cuff) of the machine door has become leaky.If the damage is minor, the cuff can be turned over with the hole facing up and sealed. If the hole is large, replacement is required. from 1900 rub.
The machine displays code LE 1, LE or E9, and there is water in the tray under the washer.Due to damage from a sharp object, the drain pipe, which is located after the washing machine tank, has become leaky. A nail or pin left in the pockets of things could well pierce it. Depending on the nature of the damage, it is necessary to seal the leak or completely replace the pipe. from 1800 rub.
The Samsung washing machine displays this error a few seconds after turning it on and does not start washing.Often, this indicates a malfunction of the water level sensor (pressostat).Sometimes the cause of the malfunction is a clogged pressure tube; it needs to be blown out and the error will disappear.
If the sensor “shows no signs of life,” it needs to be replaced.
from 1900 rub.
At startup, during the washing, rinsing or spinning process on a Samsung machine, the LE / E9 error lights up.Often this code signals a malfunction of the display unit - the control chip of the washing machine.If the machine’s processor is “safe,” the board can be repaired. If the processor burns out, the chip will need to be replaced. from 2400 rub.
A few seconds after turning on, the Samsung washing machine with aquastop displays a leak or self-draining error code.Perhaps the aquastop itself is faulty, or rather, the leakage sensor, which is located in the tray of the washing machine. The sensor triggers erroneously, although there is no water in the pan. The sensor needs to be replaced. from 2400 rub.
Samsung washing machine leaks from behind and writes code LE, E9 or LE1The drain hose through which water drains from the washing machine may have leaked.The hose needs to be replaced. from 1400 rub.
There is an error in the Samsung machine that appears and then disappears.The reason for this often lies in the wiring. The wire loops going to the pressure switch or to the leakage sensor in the washing machine tray (for models with aquastop) are frayed, so the contact appears and disappears and an error occurs. The problem can be resolved by replacing the frayed cable or twisting the damaged wires. The twisting area is carefully isolated. from 1800 rub.
